Sabrina Paulson has seen her share of tragedy. After almost falling prey to the same man who murdered her sister, she’s managed to put her life back together – but not without an emotional cost. In danger of becoming a recluse, Sabrina is surprised to discover that the one man who is instrumental in bringing her back out of her shell is the same man she’s always disparaged: private investigator Duncan Ross. When a young woman goes missing, Duncan and Sabrina find themselves embroiled in a mystery that hits a little too close to home. Can she leave behind the shadows of her past long enough to help find her?
One fine day in the not-too-distant past, Lisa Clark O’Neill left Wittenberg University with a BA in English, which she promptly neglected. After working as an interior designer, decorative artist, and Montessori art teacher (there may have been a BA in art as well,) she finally settled into the role of mother to two very fine children. However, two years of doing the stay-at-home-mom brain cell melt drove her to pull out a pen and one of her old college notebooks. That turned into six manuscripts. Lisa spent subsequent years avoiding housework by burying her nose in just about every romance novel she could get her hands on, after completely falling in love with the genre. Her own work falls into the romantic suspense sub-genre, with strong comedic undertones. Two of Lisa's recent novels, Circumstantial Evidence and Malice, were chosen as Best Reads of 2015.
The suspense story in this one was really good! I enjoyed it a lot! Duncan and Sabrina were well suited to each other! Their dating and sexual pasts seemed similar and we didn't get any pesky details that make me think of H or h with other people! Duncan is the best friend of Sabrina's older brother and it worked well in this story because neither person ever crushed on the other. They both lived their own lives and became more when the time was right!
The shadows are always flitting around in Sarah Paulson’s mind. The memory of her sister’s murder all those years ago and the damage it caused her family is always lurking in corners, ready to jump out at her. That is why she spent years traveling and acting out against family expectations (or maybe reinforcing them). Now there are newer, bigger shadows for Sabrina, those created after her kidnapping by her sister’s killer. Although that mystery is now solved, Sabrina cannot solve the puzzle of how to live after such an event. Becoming more and more reclusive, it takes a her brother’s best friend, and avowed thorn in her side Duncan Ross to kick her back into gear. But when a woman goes missing, forcing Sheriff Ben Paulson and PI Ross into action, Sabrina’s shadows begin to take solid shape….
Once again, this author has taken the genre of romantic suspense and kicked it up a few notches! The writing is spot-on: the pace of the story perfectly drives the plot (and vice-versa), making for a smooth, engrossing read you will not be able to put down! Ms. O’Neill’s books always contain witty, smart characters that you cannot help to love, or hate to love. And let me tell you, Duncan Ross is one to love! Perhaps I am a sucker for the frenemies-to-lovers trope, but Sabrina and Duncan really rocked it. But despite the romance in this romantic suspense read, be prepared to stay up late into the night with this one - the suspense feels real, it is frightening and nail-biting! An A+ novel by an A+ author!
Do you love a who-done-it that you can’t figure out? Lisa Clark O’Neill gives it to you in Shadows, the second book in the Dahlonega Trilogy! O’Neill weaves many suspects into this suspenseful novel as Sabrina, Duncan and Ben race the clock to find a missing woman. O’Neill’s trademark witty repertoire and humor, coupled with some spicy romance makes this a must read.
The second book in the Dahlonega series and I spent a wonderful Saturday afternoon reading this. Lisa has a wonderful style of writing and takes you with her in this witty, full of tension mystery. It is filled with great characters, dogs, a chicken and a kidnapper.
Who the kidnapper is? You have to read it to find out.
Lisa Clark O'Neill's characters are so perfect to read!! Lisa is a great author and I'm anxiously waiting for her next book. Duncan and Sabrina are two characters that I have loved reading about since I first meet them in earlier books. My favorite part about Lisa's books is the sarcastic, humorous banter between characters.
This was a good mystery HOWEVER you mispelled Greenville SC - it's NOT Greeneville, I know, I live in Greenville SC. I can't understand why that wasn't caught when you proofread the book. Second, there are just too many unnecessary filler pages. Otherwise, it was a good mystery.
Yet another great read from Lisa Clark O'Neill. I have read a good many of the Southern Comfort series and have loved them all. She keeps you on the edge of your seat right up to the last page- and then wanting more. Great mysteries and romance.
