Alaric’s crusade against slavery backfires when the Corollas unknowingly capture and collar him once more. Enslaved as a pit fighter side by side with his old enemy, Manc Shepherd, Alaric must survive to break his chains.

A mysterious huntress pursues Alaric, ultimately ingratiating herself with Tyne in order to get close to Alaric and complete her contract. War hero Commodore Bruce Dolan det Regis does everything he can to find Alaric—including recruit, cajole and extort Alaric’s one time friends.

Missing, beaten and bathed in blood, Alaric finds new and old allies in the pit that help transform him into a killing machine. Coming sword to sword with a refugee Alaric’s schemes sold into slavery, he chooses to defy his owner, the Dominari, in a way that reveals his location.

Enemies and allies race to the Dominari’s doorstep. They demand she turn Alaric over, refusing to divulge his identity. She pledges to kill Alaric and burn Scrics Three to the ground before surrendering her prize. When she learns Alaric’s identity, the Dominari organizes a public spectacle that forces him to kill his friends or die.

Alaric rescues Manc as he affects an escape and returns to the stars. Pelson and the others waylay Alaric en route to rebuild the destroyed Cassiopeia, revealing Alaric’s true identity. Still reeling from these revelations, Alaric witnesses the destructive atrocities of a bold, new Corollas juggernaut.

Will Alaric choose an easy life with a family he can’t remember or rid the Protectorate of slavery once and for all with the help of a KIOSC-shortcutting hack, a new crew and the new Cassiopeia?

Michael J. Allen is a USA Today bestselling author of multi-layer science fiction and fantasy novels. Born in Oregon and an avid storm fan, he lives in far too hot & humid rural Georgia with his two black Labradors: Myth and Magesty. On those rare occasions he tears himself away from reading, writing and conventions he can be found enjoying bad scifi movies, playing D&D or the occasional video game, getting hit with sticks in the SCA or hanging out with the crew of Starfleet International’s U.S.S. I have had the joy of reading the entire Scion series by Michael J. Allen, and have found his writing and style to be engaging and entertaining. I was excited to see the story continue from books 1, 2, and 2.5 (which I found odd that he made a 2.5 instead of going straight to 3, and still am not convinced it was necessary). I was ready to pick up where we left off and see if the story line would continue from the previous books.

As with the earlier books in the series, I was entertained once more. I was engaged from the start, drawn in to the story by the writing style and word choice. The story was fast paced and the action was ongoing throughout, from start to finish. I again found myself unable to put the book down once I started, reading it from beginning to end in two days and accomplishing nothing else in the process, wanting to see what would happen next. The characters I have grown familiar with popped up once more with new ones introduced, all well developed being people you could relate to. Overall, the storyline was good, keeping me on the edge of my seat as I read on and on to see what would happen next. I am really enjoying this story, despite being more interested other styles of writing and not so much in this genre.

The writing was well done, too. It was free of errors in mechanics, spelling, and grammar. The story flowed smoothly from page to page, and I had no trouble keeping up, no problems understanding what was going on, no questions left unanswered or things that seemed farfetched or unbelievable. I thoroughly enjoyed every minute spent reading and look forward to the next book!

Alaric and Manc captured as pit fighters. Alaric again is looking for a way to escape but this time he’s not alone. His friends are looking for him and. When he has the opportunity surprisingly he takes Manc with him. He developed into a stronger character and I’m glad I took the journey with him this is a. Great series. Which I’m so glad I read. And Im so glad I’m going to reread. Michael is one of those authors that keeps you entertained and constantly on the edge of your seat. Sometimes the books get a little slow so you think ok I’ll get up and go eat or something but then wham they take off again and the next thing you know you’ve read the whole book and forgot to eat sleep and go to the bathroom.

I have been hooked on this Scion series. This is installment four, book three. Yes, look up why it is titled that way...lol. Anyway, I love it just as much! Alaric and Manc trade off once again on many things in this one. Alaric's love life gets even more complicated. New and old friends mingle together. There are twists and turns every chapter. I want more! This space scifi has it all once again. It has adventure, drama, romance, and everything all rolled up in a ball of must read! As the norm, Michael J Allen is a fantastic author, with a vivid imagination. I am a loyal fan at this point. The Scion series has a little something for every age group.

Cracking the cover on this book started an action-filled journey that kept me engaged through the last page! I've read all 3 in this series and am happy that, unbelievably, each book provides more enjoyment than the last. Michael Allen is a gifted author with a great flair for writing a really fun series. I enjoyed his writing and the many twists in all four books. Well worth your time and I am looking forward to the next chapters. Characters seemed real, some I hated, others were loved. Felt like I could lose myself into the action and forget that it was fiction. An intergalactic alien space epic adventure, full of dystopian drama, sci-fi swords and gripping characters. I loved it! The series is addictive and kept me engaged from the first page to the last sentence.

This series is an action-filled journey that will keep you engaged through the last page! Such a fantastic intergalactic alien space epic adventure, full of dystopian drama, sci-fi swords and gripping characters. Here is what Goodreads has to say about the book: “Alaric’s crusade against slavery backfires when the Corollas unknowingly capture and collar him once more. i will give it a 4/5 stars
I enjoyed his writing and the many twists in all four books. Well worth your time and I am looking forward to the next chapters. Characters seemed real, which I definitely enjoyed, too. I was engaged from the first book, drawn in to the story altho the main character is a bit annoying. The story was just as fast paced and ongoing action packed as the previous books.there was some more developpement in the stories and personalities of the characters. I am really enjoying this story, and look forward to reading more in the future as there's still one more chapter to be released. i would have prefered if the main character got any more mature but no he didn't change a bit through all the serie until this one but not ennough i would say,so it's defenetly the autor who wants him to be like that.
I definitely enjoyed this work,
it's defenetly worth the shot especially if you love reading sci-fi books. you can get a copy from amazon, it's on promotion https://www.amazon.com/dp/B076MM27CD

Unchained started out with lots of vivid graphic-like descriptions of what was going on with Aralic's body and how he was beginning to develop emotions which he hid away with his helmet or mask.

The scenes were fast paced and very descriptive. It was hard to know what was going on or why at first because I hadn't read the first two books which were part of the series.

It was a bit hard to read because of the many new words that I encountered. There was a lot of sci-fi jargon some of which I understood only from having watched Dark Matter.

One thing I can say is that the Author didn't hold back in describing vivid details, even those of secondary importance to the scene but very important in understanding the changes and development of the characters, especially the main one.

I would say this sci-fi story is a suspense / thriller / conspiracy. If you like your drama and action mixed in with lots of gory details, you'll enjoy reading it.

After reading book 2.5 of the Scion series I was tentatively hopeful that perhaps the storyline of this series would go in a different direction instead of focusing on captain Whiny McWhinerpants (aka Alaric). Well, unfortunately, book three returns to the main storyline and the whiny main character is back in his full petulant "glory." Okay, so there has been a little character growth (finally!) but I still can't help but see Alaric as the petulant child he was in the first two books. I wish they had stayed with the side story and kept telling things from the perspective of the villain, it's so much more interesting that way (though still not interesting). As with the previous books, I struggled to continue reading because the book is boring and I just couldn't get into the story. Still, I don't care at all about the characters and what happens to them. I was just waiting and hoping for it to end. The ending was also quite a disappointment.

This is the perfect wrap up for the series. It is a great series that you need to start from the beginning with. It is full of science fiction and alien goodness. The characters are amazing and you can’t help but love them. They are all well developed and you can’t help but root for the main characters. With each book the characters started having more depth and you feel like you know these people! The adventures that are contained within these books are amazing and you literally feel like you are there fighting the trials and tribulations of each one of these characters. Fantastic plot line and characters!!!

Go check it out! 😉

Great book full of an amazing fictional world! Perfect read for anyone who likes science fiction.

I have been snared on this Scion arrangement. This is portion four, book three. Indeed, look into why it is titled that way...lol. Anyway, I adore it the same amount of! Alaric and Manc exchange off by and by on numerous things in this one. Alaric's affection life gets considerably more confounded. New and old companions blend together. There are wanders aimlessly every section. I need more! This space scifi has everything by and by. It has experience, dramatization, sentiment, and everything all moved up in a wad of must read! As the standard, Michael J Allen is an incredible creator, with a distinctive creative ability. I am a faithful fan now. The Scion arrangement has a touch of something for each age gathering.

So glad that I got to read this one!! Book one and two were fabulous.

When it came up that I could read this I was freaking out!! I loved book 1-2.5 and I was so excited to be able to read book three. This one was a solid 4 star read for me and I couldn't put it down. The writing is engating and entertaining and the story was so exciting to read! This is another story from Allen that will have you sucked in by the very first pages. This was fast paced, smooth writing, and I finished this in one day (yes it was that good!) These characters have become my friends and I cannot wait to find out what happens with them. This one is an edge of your seat read with action to knock your socks off.

Go Into This One Knowing: Action and you wont put it down!

After years of not liking science fiction novels, I read Scion of Conquered Earth (Book 1) and Michael J. Allen made a sci-fi believer out of me. Getting to know Alaric so well from the first book I needed to know what happened next so I have continued the series (One directly after another). In Unchained Alaric ultimately has to make the biggest decision of his life, what will he choose? If you want to find out what his choice is you got to read the book! Definitely recommend this whole series.

I try to write my reviews so they don’t spoil, something that I still find hard in books, thus why they tend to be short.
The lead character seems almost different in this novel, more likeable, less switch. I like the character in the edition, but the story in the second book. Well written, even for a science fiction, tends to keep you intrigued. If it’s your type of book, definitely worth a pick up.

Every end has some leeway in time for the plot to really get in to it’s peak, and in “Unchained” it starts with the same humor and style. Although, I have not finished all of “Unchained”, yet; it’s still a great read and the entire character cast are still making the novel very humorous, fun, exciting, and tech./“Sci. Fi.” thrilling! Michael J. Allen’s books are to be read by future Physicists, Scientists, Engineers, and Astronauts. Their incredibly amusing. Great series, Michael J. Allen.

After the identity crisis in book 2, Alaric is back to his likeable self. We get lots of fighting in and out of space, the answers to some questions, and new riddles to think on. Expect Rule of Cool to be the only answer sometimes when you ask: why?

SCION SERIES

This has been a fun romp. Enjoyable if not serious SF series within a failing confederation with widespread slavery, corruption, and piracy. Our hero's obvious past and identity includes some gapping character flaws that keep the plot moving. As often seen by the end of the first three book the plot thickens.

This is my first Scifi novel I decided to read. When its about science fiction I usually just watching movies or seroes. But this was very pleasant surprise. I enjoyed a lot, and its a total different way to use your imagination. It was really exciting and i will definitely want to read the other books of the writer!!

I've read a few books by Michael J. Allen and I can say that this series doesn't disappoint. I loved the first and second book, and Unchained the third in the Scion series continues what those first books built.

I don't want to give away anything but I can say you'll be surprised by how the story progresses. A great read!
