Highly educated, Keya Petal's life is turned upside down when she gets involved with handsome, Locke. His illegal activity and long criminal record is not a huge enough red flag, but what is, is the physical, mental and emotional abuse he puts her through. Being in the mental health profession, will Keya take a seat on those same couches she has her patients take comfort on? Or will she finally get the courage enough to walk away?
Wow this book had my attention from beginning to end. What I thought was going to be a nice story of girl meets guy turned into a nightmare of guy controls and abuses girl. I like that the author chose domestic violence as the storyline. All the signs were there for Keya to end the relationship with Locke from the very first action of abuse. But she was so caught up in her feelings, that she began to equate the abuse as love. I was rooting for her to finally get the strength to up and leave without looking back but that hold Locke has on her just won't let up. Will Keya get the courage to put herself first and leave Locke or will she forever be under his control?
WARNING!!! MENTAL, VERBAL AND SEXUAL ABUSE!! DO NOT READ IF YOU ARE EASILY TRIGGERED!!
I have read books about abuse in the past.....but this one takes the damn cake. I will admit that I thought this would be a gangsta love story but I was so wrong. At the beginning I was ok with reading this but as it went on, I got so triggered but I finished it. I was gonna read the series but I cannot bring my self to do it, it is that bad. I will say I hope Locke ass get what he deserves for treating Keya like he did in this book.
This book was ok. I loved the story line but there were some editing errors that took away from the story. Locke was one crazy person and I hope Keya gets away from them.
Damn Keya… abuse is a horrific thing! Her mind is clearly gone starting back to childhood. I wish I could beat both her parents a@@!!!!!!! And Locke… no words. Smh
Sooooo Keya has a very successful life and this Locke dude can’t stay out of jail lol! I’m hoping Keya finds herself before Locke kill her! Let me hurry to the next book! Author Ashantay Keys thank you for this great read thus far!
Warning: This book is extremely triggering, it contains mental, financial, sexual, and physical abuse. Wouldn’t recommend if you are sensitive to any of the mentioned abuse types.
This book pissed me off. I have read extremely triggering books, but this might have taken the cake. The way Keya is treated not only by Locke, but her mother and father, along with Sabotage was hard to read through. Keya is a psychologist and to see her going to work treating patients and going home to experience the same abuse was disheartening. The amount of Plan B pills she popped throughout this book should have put her in the hospital. Then her trying to juggle 2 men at once, baby I was tired reading it. Still on the fence if I will continue the series.
I can tell that I would enjoy this author’s writing style for a different type of book.

This poor baby was scarred from the beginning. She was foolish as hell but I believe her mindset had been screwed from childhood. On several occasions I wanted to scream at her "What are you doing?!" I wanted to be mad at her and call her stupid but the more I read, the more that I thought about the fact there are many young women living this cautionary tale right now in real life. It's heartbreaking and a situation like this could only end it pain. She was addicted, and despite her education and her career choice, the one person she couldn't seem to help was herself. I found myself both disturbed and intrigued by this story. I'm curious to know what happens next in this girls life... (4.5 ⭐)
I really don't even know where to start. The writing was very immature, the way the character thought were immature. The domestic violence isn't even the worst part of the book. You don't even understand why she likes Locke. Normally, they will make the male character charming, so you can understand how the female character got in this situation. However, it was like we just jumped right into the storyline. Even though the relationship with his friend Joshua, the only reason she told us his nickname was so that she can add that part into the book which I didn't even understand why it was needed.. The ending was actually ridiculous. All in all I'm just really disappointed. I am not sure if I will be looking into any more of this author work.
This is my first read from this author and I’m actually happy with the way the pages flowed..poor keya damaged from the start and she seem like such a good person for her to be hit with all that she had to go thru..and Locke idk in the beginning i couldn’t stand him and even in the middle i didn’t like him lol but the end it makes me wanna know what will happen next??
Ok Locke was crazy and keya is like a lot of women in these type of relationships they want to leave then they want to stay. What she did with SABOTAGE WAS JUST IGNORANT. Now I’m not gone lie even THOUGH Locke was crazy I don’t know how he didn’t get turned off with Keya during sex. It had to be like sleeping with a statue. Poor thing just didn’t do NOTHING but like her twat ate. Let’s see what part 2 is about.
Definitely a page turner and I couldn’t stop shaking my head. Keya is so educated and smart I don’t want to call her dumb I’ll just say confused and not taking the advice she’s giving out. Locke he’s sexy but he’s the green eyed demon and I’ve had one of those so I totally understand Keya mindset. This is a good story and could help educate girls and women that are going through something similar as Keya. 💔
Of course he knew he could control her, she met him & he drove her home right away. Nothing might've happened, but that was an invitation. Then she just became accustomed to the abuse, physical & sexual. Just when you think she comes to her senses, she really didn't. It took me a while to finish this because I didn't see a real story happening behind all that she was going through. It wasn't much else besides work, abuse, sex, repeat.
I do like the author writing style. I'll definitely will finish the series I just got annoyed with Keya further along we get in the story. There was not much but them repeating the same thing. Go to work, brutal S.A., popping plan B, states she has a tight V, rinse and repeat. I was rooting for her in the end but sadly disappointed at her decision. All 20+ big red flags literally hitting her in the face, but nahh. Reading book 2 if she finds her worth.
Really??? Just really Keya?? Omgg girl wtf just seriously? I didn’t like Locke from jump, middle or end. I just don’t see how Keya couldn’t get away after alllllllll that he put her through. She knew better and I was rooting for you and you do this mess🤦🏾♀️🤦🏾♀️
I don't see how she stayed with Locke,he showed her who he was from the beginning. Keya is so successful but I guess her daddy issues made her stay. She gets a side dude and he is just as manipulative as Locke. When it comes to men she has zero sense, but she has a degree in psychology. Its like the blind leading the blind when them people sit on her couch.
Ain't no way in this world,I would stay with someone that treat me like the way Locke treated Keya. Then add Joshua to the mix, that poor girl just didn't know what to do,but she let them treat her this way. Great read, should be a part 2,just to see what happens.
I don't understand Keya, she had a chance to get away but didn't take it. Love is not suppose to hurt...I don't agree with her at all sleeping with Locke friend. First chance I had I would have ran.
It's crazy how love can nake you stay with someone who is abusive. He is crazy for doing the things he did to her. Locke needs to man up and stop putting his hands on Keya. I hope Keya finially leaves him alone.
Keya was so smart but so dumb. I just don’t understand how she stayed with him after all of that but they say you won’t understand if you haven’t lived through it. I hope she leaves him. Can’t wait to read part 2
It would be no way in h*** I would have stayed with Locke. He came in her life and took over. She should of got him beat up. She was wrong for messing with his friend too. It is always good to have a hand gun ready for men like that.
Incomplete storyline Ignorant and sad characters especially the female Predictable plot Low quality Horrible dialogue and translational sentences It’s literally so much much Anybody Can write a book these days and it’s sad.
I finally got the chance to read this and I am not disappointed! I know you have to be in a person's shoes, but Keya is killing me with her weakness! Looking forward to part two!!
We often question what makes a women stay and endure all that she does despite every single red flag present. It’s a battle no one will understand until in the same position . Some try hard to escape some make the decision to late.
Locke is something else he is pass crazy. I never want to be loved like that. Someone that will make you have sec when you are not even in the mood is crazy and he just takes it. Baby he would’ve been in the pearly gates
abuse does something to the psyche, she abused by her father abused by her man and she a psychologist. She knows the classic signs but yet she is staying!!! Then to find her sisters suffered too. Wow
This was good, but it just has me spent because you not gonna tell me there’s females out here that are this delusional especially with her profession is throwing me for a loop.
