Spiritless, I sat by the pool searching for an excuse to spark up a conversation with a beautiful stranger. A beautiful person. A stranger. Anyone! Booking a holiday alone seemed like such a good idea at the time, despite the harsh reality that I was actually faced with. I was on holiday, in a strange country, alone! How pathetic! This erotic thriller is an instant arouser that tells the tale of Raven, a curious holiday maker, as she sets off in search of a raunchy adventure to remember. When she meets Nelson, a charming fleecer that works at The Vacation Lodge, she is instantly drawn to him. And he's willing to take her on a thrilling ride. Though she is sceptical, she accepts his proposal until she discovers his dirty secret... As her desire for him intensifies, she uses her taste for strong cocktails and chasers to manage her ever-changing emotions. But with the constant battle between her wavering morals and his irresistible seductions, has she bitten off more than she can chew?

The Vacation Lodge is a mix between Omar Tyree's Fly Girl and Terry McMillians How Steela Got Her Groove Back. It's listed as an erotica/thriller. I agree with the erotica description, but I wouldn't classify this as a suspense or thriller.

Raven, our lead character, decides to go on a solo holiday (vacation) to Jamaica. Though it isn't boldly stated in the text, it's clear when the story begins that she is looking for the type of entertainment that comes with a sexy male involved.

Erotica stories face the same challenges as a good XXX rated movie. (Not sure if I can say the P word). Either you're reading for the good story with steamy scenes OR you are reading for the intimate scenes but want just a little storytelling to go along with it. This book gives you both versions. The first half seems to jump straight into the intimate scenes as Raven encounters two men that she finds attractive for different reasons. The second half of the story begins to give more background on the characters but has less intimate scenes.

In all, the intimate scenes in the book are done elegantly. They aren't overly vulgar or risque'. Most erotica fans should be pleased and will enjoy this book. My favorite of the steamy scenes involve a threesome that happens towards the end. You'll have to read the book to find out who is involved 🤐.

At first I thought Raven was a mature woman who was brave and independent enough to a good time alone. But as the story progressed, she became more immature in both her desires and decision making. An example: She talks about her constant paranoia in one part of the story, but in the same chapter she goes off into the dark woods with someone who she thought was a possible rapist. Then in another situation, she stated she is only looking to have a good time while she is in town. But when she meets men she is questioning them on whether they have kids or other sexual partners... sounds more like a hubby list rather than a hook-up list. Makes it seems like she secretly wants more than what she is saying. Lastly, there's theres a scene where she sucks her thumb... Come on, Raven! Big girls don't do that 🤣.

Sorry for the slight spoiler but the story ends in a cliffhanger that truly comes out of nowhere. In a book that has nothing close to an action scene, it makes the ending feel a bit out of place.

Now before finishing up my general review I feel the need to implore you ladies NOT to emulate the actions of this character. This is a fiction novel written for entertainment. Though exciting on the pages, there are real dangers in some of the decisions made by this character when traveling solo. Do your research and make sensible decisions. Personal, I'm not leaving my resort for any reason other than to go to the airport... but if you decide to explore, then be smart about it. That's not specific to Jamaica, but I'm referring to any type of travel to wherever. Stay safe ladies. 😚

Specifics to the Audio Book:

The book was read by the author who does a decent job with reading the story. As an American, her accents and dialect seem to be well done. But I've been told Americans aren't good judges on other countries accents 😂🤣... so take it for what you think it's worth 😊.

There is one section with way too many background sounds... I like them when they're used sparingly... However in chapter 7 we get: I open door... door creaks... I stomp across floor... stomping sounds... I open fridge.... fridge sound... that is too much for so little results... what would been nice for an erotica story would be erotic sounds in the steamy scenes... I'll let you use your imagination on what I mean.

3 Stars 🌟🌟🌟- Good Book. I like the overall concept and it was delivered well. Most common ranking for a book I enjoyed and look forward to the next.

So I just finished this book and I couldn't believe it just ended like that! I was shocked. I finished in less than three days and it had me gripped. I'm telling you, this book will have you longing for a trip to jamaica with a man named Nelson. I'm so glad I purchased this. I'm diving right into part two.

***This is an audiobook review*** WHOA! Where do I begin? I can say without hesitation that this is the best book I’ve experienced on audible. The velvety texture of D.J. Walters voice gives you all of the feels. The tangle of both the Jamaican and English accents is just ear candy. The intensity of passion, pleasure, anxiety, fear keep you on the edge of your seat while listening. We go on this amazing journey with Raven draped in the perfection of beautiful language and authenticity. There is such an intimacy being both inside the mind of Raven and witnessing all the experiences she had in Jamaica. My favorite parts are moments of suspense where the cadence of the author’s voice and the precise narrative have you on the edge of your seat. I found myself stopping at times just to savor certain moments of the book or to catch my breath. I recommend anyone who is a fan of great storytelling to check out this book. D.J. Walters has a fan for life. The ending is a gut punch I CANNOT wait to read the next book.

Okk so I went in to this book unsure of what I would think because generally I am not a person that would steer towards what is classified as erotica and/or romance novels. I will say that this book definitely is an eventful read in that there is something going on at all times. I feel like this book is an alcohol induced joyride of a holiday vacation with a lot of steamy and unexpected moments with a touch of unfortunate reality...
There is something to be said about dream foreshadowing and, although graphic and slightly unnerving, you have to appreciate the depth behind the dream experienced by the protagonist. And though cliff hangers are not usually my thing, I will look out for the next book to see how this story turns out.

Very Interesting read!! When I first started reading this book I was amused because it takes place in London so as a reader I look for the normal things such as the different lingo and experiences. When the book actually took off I found myself actually living vicariously through the stories main character. And then chapter 5 happened!!! I was like WHAT👀!!It was like the beginning of the book was the uphill part of a roller coaster and the rest of the book was all twists and turns. Great job DJ!! I can’t wait to read the next book!!

What can I say about 'The Vacation Lodge', This was a really exciting read for me, it had lots of twists & turns at every page you turned over, lots of real lol moments, I could really resonate with Raven and could really feel her raw emotions coming across in this book, at times I actually was holding my breath in anticipation as to what was going to happen next......I am a avid reader of all types of literature and if a novel grabs my attention from the first page, which this novel did, then in my eyes the writer has delivered exactly what was intended. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this novel right to the very end and even 'shouted noooooooo way' when the book came to an end and I cannot wait for Part 2!

This was my first time reading/hearing anything from this author, but after being recommended to read it by the author, I'm glad I did. I loved the narration of this via Audible. The Jamacian accents were awesome. I loved the British accent as always. I've heard stories of people going on vacation alone and never considered it, but this was definitely interesting and erotic...
The attention to detail in this made me feel like I was back in Jamaica and has me wanting to plan another vacation there.
Can't wait to hear/read the next one.

I could not put it down, read it in 2 days. Having been to Jamaica the writer's creativity had me right there in the storyline. I was disappointed with the ending, but it does have me wanting to read part 2.

Good book

Not a bad book. Wasn’t too pleased about the married man with a bitchy wife narrative but ok. Has a sequel which was an unexpected development.

What the hell did I just read? I have never wanted to slap a woman who isn't real so much in my life.

This Raven person goes on holiday from London to Jamaica alone. I get that sometimes we have to get away and being alone can be good. I was scared for Raven from the very beginning. There was something a little off about her to me. Then she meets Nelson. I have never been to Jamaica but I have heard how flirtatious the men can be.

Raven gets her "groove" back with Nelson. He was of course too good to true. I don't want to give too much away but Nelson was not single. Raven kept falling for his lies. I was thinking girl I know the sex was good but don't be a fool.

Oh but then the author throws in another man named Junior. That ninja was crazy. Raven saw the red flags but went out with him not once but twice.

I kept thinking, when was this woman taking her behind home! Raven does not need to travel alone ever again.

Then the book ends on a cliffhanger! I am a book nerd so now I must know how it ends.

If you enjoy erotic you’ll probably enjoy this book. The only scene that I didn’t like in this book was the rape scene which was a bit too cliche for me, but other than that it was a good book.

"Denial is not the only river that runs through Egypt" Sunset Beach. Quoting from a soap opera? Yep, because this novel reads like one of the best well loved trashy dramatic soaps of my teen life. Main character Raven is a SINgle traveller in her ancestral home of Jamaica, who drops herself into the most ridiculous forms of holiday madness. I rolled my eyes, shouted "oh come on luv" & "fuckeries" more than several times and giggled myself silly throughout. Only gave two stars as I had to re-read parts, making me want to not finish the book, which is a shame as this is a good debut from the author. If your a fan of holiday romance and misfortunes, this is a good one.

Raven's sensual holiday in Jamaica does not hold back on the eroticism. She is clearly a beautiful woman, empowered in her looks and strong sense of self. At the same time, she seems at the mercy of the men she encounters, quite dubious and dodgy characters. Although I enjoy food and cocktails as much as she does, perhaps we needed less narrative on her culinary choices or transport logistics. A sexual assault is also left till the end and somewhat skated over. But overall this story kept us entertained, aroused and wondering what Raven will do next...

What the hell?

I finished this book cause I ain’t no quitter. Raven is not that bright. Who goes out of the country drinks heavily and then goes out with strangers by yourself? What are your expected outcomes? There were some surprises that threw me from my predicted ending but for the most part, her dumbness or naïveté for obvious situations keeps me from reading books 2.

This was a decent read but at times Raven made me upset with the way she carried herself. She put herself in a few bad situations then questioned why is this happening. I understand there is a part two but I was very disappointed in the way it ends. I will read part two and hope things pick up for me.

Good story

This is my first time reading this author. I have read a few international authors, specifically ones from Jamaica, so I was familiar with some of the terms used. The story was a bit muddled for me as to what was really happening. It could be because this is a cliffhanger. I give it 3.5 stars because it was a very interesting story and well written.

Reckless and Confused...

Ummmmm... I’m not really sure about what I just read. Raven made some really bad choices she took holiday rendezvous to another level and risked her safety numerous times. Why wouldn’t she let Andrew help her? After all of that it ends in a cliffhanger? Unacceptable, I am more frustrated than thrilled.

Interesting

Normally I don't review books if I rate them 3 🌟. However the author contacted me to purchase and read the book. Here is my truth as a consumer: The author has great potential & the simple plot was awesome! A woman goes to Jamaica for holiday and has great sex. The complicated details is where the trouble happens. The main character Raven made me cringe with her judgement. She was worrisome with no explanation for it. I didn't see the need for the almost rape scene & I couldn't stand how she judged Nelson for having an open marriage yet had a 3 some with he and his wife. Then she was insulted in a childish way when the wife dismissed her. Then the story ends with an odd cliff hanger. A few rounds of edits were needed as there were too many unnecessary details and exposition. I wish the author well with future novels but I won't purchase the sequel.
