Ariel Kimber isn’t your average seventeen-year-old girl. She’s recently discovered she’s a witch with magic and is looking to find her place in a brand-new world. Her place in this new world is in a coven with seven guys.
After all of the horrible things she’s been forced to endure, Ariel was looking forward to building her new life with the family she’s found herself a part of and focusing on healing with Dash after what Chucky did to the both of them. After the blood that had been spilled, they all struggle to put those memories and the incident behind them. It’s easier said than done, though.
Quinton is plagued with guilt and the rest of them struggle with the fact that they almost lost one of their brothers and Ariel is left with a permanent reminder of the incident.
New bonds are forged, and just as things are starting to settle down again for Ariel and her coven, the Council of Elders makes it’s first appearance in Ariel’s life. And they don’t plan on going anywhere any time soon.
Writing this 'review' without chilling out beforehand is probably a mistake but let's be clear: this book was a huge fucking disappointment. Eiffel Tower huge.
1. I have a problem with the writing. I'm no writer, i can't criticize so i'll just say: i don't like it. It didn't bother me as much in Love Potion but was a pain in the ass in Blood Magic.
2. I don't like Ariel. Ariel has never been my favorite character; she's too submissive for my taste. Now that's she learning to grow some balls it always seems to be at the most inappropriate time and she simply sounds like a lunatic spoiled child. Also, she's starting to get on my nerves with her rambling bullshit about her guys; she doesn't want them as lovers but they need to want her or she gets all moody. Annoying.
3. The huge strength of this series was the originality of its characters. For a reverse harem, the guys were definitely on the crazy side and switching between creepy stalkers and annoying dicks. With this book, they are now just a bunch of jerks with lots of issues. If I were Ariel, I would call the cops on them.
4. Dash is my favorite and was pretty much inexistant in this book. But that's okay, we have a reason; he was heavily medicated. He was either sleeping or making Ariel's bed or doing her laundry while she was asleep -which she would complain about because she's independant and strong and Dash is not her housekeeper but would not do either because she's a brat.
5. Binx also disappeared. I guess the trip to Quinton's house traumatized him because we didn't see him once after he left his box. NOT. ONCE.
6. The book was pretty much a huge pile of ramblings. Ariel talks and talks and talks and talks and talks and nothing happens. The story didn't advance until the last 5% of the book and I'm not sure I'm grasping what is the plot about. FIVE LAST PERCENT. I guess I should be grateful that the book does not end on a cliffhanger -it simply stops with a very weird and mysterious open ending.
7. BUT it's not only bad stuff. The situations can sometimes be fucking hilarious and I did laugh out loud a few times. The characters definitely help; they're all major weirdos.
The series is not on KU and I want to say I'm done with it, but then again, nothing is set in stone. I guess we'll see.
Giving this book 3 stars is generous. I really like this series honestly but nothing happens in this book until the last maybe 10%. Its probably the worst book in the entire series. The MC comes off as a whiney spoiled brat through most of it and is almost unlikable (there have been worse MCs so its almost). The book takes forever to move anywhere because it's full of description and internal monologue. The only saving grace of this book was the tiny bit where we get to know more about some of the other guys. Even then, this book doesn't move very far in the relationship department. Because of all the description and monologues she barely has enough time in the book to describe what little time she spends with the guys. I'm all for slow burn usually but at this point there is little burn left. This is easily the worst book so far in the series and you could probably skip it in the future and be perfectly fine. It makes me sad because, like I said, I really like this series and had high hopes for this book.
The slow forward movement in all things romance, character development & overall arc was painful. The inner MC’s monologue, outfit minutia, & unnecessary rehash of previously established scenarios/explanations killed this book for me. Not the best book in this series.
This book!! I loved how Ariel’s relationships with the boys grew throughout the book, especially with Damien since I feel like we don’t see much of him at all. I wish I read this series after it was complete though, because I already want the next one! Also, fingers crossed that she steals the cat-I want to see Dash’s reaction;)
Favorite Quotes:
I felt my eyes grow round in my head. They were serious about this baby thing and they meant to have babies with me. That was most certainly never going to happen. Not in two years. Not in five years. Not in twenty. How would something like that ever work? There were seven of them and one of me. Dash wrapped his arm around his middle as he started laughing softly. “Your face,” he said. “You look so horrified now that you’ve finally worked out what it actually would mean to have children in the group. Priceless.” “Shut up,” I muttered angrily. Quinton burst out laughing. From behind me, Tyson said, “She doesn’t want a dog. She wants one of those hairless cats.” Abel scoffed loudly, and Addison burst out laughing. “I could get her a cat,” Dash said in-between laughs. “Christ,” Quinton choked out. I hated them all.
“We’ll be back for dinner,” Abel choked out. “I’m sure it’ll be… interesting.” “Can you cook?” Addison asked me. “I’ve never really tried before,” I told him honestly. “Fuck,” Abel burst out. “Twin, this is it. We’re all gonna die.” “No one’s dying tonight,” I said, trying to reassure him. They both laughed again. On the inside I was starting to get scared. Could you die from food poisoning? I thought you could. “He can’t possibly be as bad as all of that, can he?” I whispered urgently. They simply laughed harder before kissing the top of my head and leaving. Guess I could always burn whatever it was to the point of being inedible, then at least no one would die from eating it. I could do that, but if I did, I didn’t think Quinton would ever let me live it down.”

***** Previous Review: there may be no release date yet, but there’s a cover and that’s enough for me to be READY
DNF This book was a disappointment and I definitely won’t bother with the rest of this series.
The characters remain static and the further I go, the less credible they seem to become. The enormous monologues bored me to tears and I probably skimmed at least half of the book. More of the same from previous books is continued adding little information. There are no fresh characters which only reinforced my absolute boredom.
The only new dynamic arrived in the final 5% of the novel. Finally some action! Too little too late.
All I will say is I skim read through a lot of this book. It did have some little cute moments here and there but it didn't really start to pick up until 90% of the book was done... SMDH... sad & disappointed!
Anyway, as I've stated before on previous reviews that I have every intention of finishing this series. So onto book 4... God help me!
DNF 54% Let me start off by saying that I knew going into this book that it has a dramatically lower rating than the first two books do on Goodreads. I went into this book hoping that I would be in the minority and like this. I gave it a fair chance because I really did enjoy the first two books in the series. With that being said, let's get into why I DNF'd this book: 1) The part that I read (which was the majority of the book) consisted of nothing but info dumping and the author restating what had happened in the previous books. There wasn't a lot of new stuff happening and I started skimming over pages because I already knew the information that was being told to me. 2) This book was moving at a snails pace. Nothing was happening and couldn't take it anymore. 3) Ariel's behavior became tiresome. She just had the same thoughts in her head and I felt like the author didn't think about the fact that Ariel had said ALL of this before (some of it she even said ten pages ago). Ariel's behavior started to tick me off because she started yelling for no reason and wouldn't yell when she should have. 4) The guys were really starting to get on my nerves. When I first started this series, I love pretty much all of the guys and I easily connected with their characters. But in this book, Tyson and Julian in particular were acting completely out of character. The way they were acting made no sense and for a while, I thought that maybe they were under a spell or something to make them act the way they did. (I know it's ridiculous.) 5) I don't have to have a lot of action or plot in my books, as long as I love the characters and their relationships. I am a character driven person NOT a plot person. With this installment, I felt like both were lacking. Nothing was happening and I really started to dislike some of the characters. It doesn't matter how much I love one character (Quinton), if the others are lacking, I can't enjoy the book. Even I am not that devoted to my favorite characters. 6) This series is not on Kindle Unlimited and most RHs are. I have to pay for each one of these installments and I can honestly say that this was a complete waste of my money. As of right now, I don't want to invest anymore of it or my time into this series. Overall, I ended up not finishing this book and I can't say that I feel bad about it. I eventually might pick this book up again but as of right now, I am happy to leave it be.
Why do I love these books I ask myself? Truthfully I’m not entirely sure! The monologueing is too long, the simplest things takes 3 pages to explain, every character is messed up, Ariel is very annoying and contradicts herself at every turn, the slow burn is getting so slow the fire is nearly out by now and the plot is basically nonexistent.
Despite all this I fricking love this series and I think the main reason is the crazy harem of men. Uncle Quinton *sigh what can I say he’s just so unapologetically psychotic and overbearing it melts my little black heart.
Close second is now Julian who is quickly closing in on Quinton for No1 psycho (it’s always the nice ones you got to watch out for). The twins are defiantly messed up (eh shower WTF) Tyson has major anger issues and we don’t know enough of Damien yet but he’s sure to be a winner too!
This book is probably my least favourite of the series so far, it’s painfully slow and we don’t get any plot development until the last 5% and not enough relationship development to compensate for the lack of plot.
I haven’t rated any of these books highly (3 stars each) but Ariel is a bit like marmite, you’ll either love it or you’ll hate it! maybe you need to be slightly unhinged to enjoy it, if so then grab me a straight jacket and sign me up!
05/19/20 - I paid $3.99 for this kindle version. It is not offered on KU. I have no regrets paying that much for it.
The writing was still a bit wordy at times. I enjoyed the story. The heroine is learning more and more about each of the heroes. She irritated me a little in this book since she seems quickly offended by them when they try to do something nice for her. They don't know her and they are trying to get to know her.
Ariel is trying to find her father, Rain, after finding a box of letters in Vivian's closet.
I wonder if will ever meet the "beautiful" Annabell that Julian and Tyson admired and seem to have so much anger about even after so much time have passed.. We read about so much about her in every book.
I am going through these books so quickly!! This series is a slow burn. There is no sex, but it works. However, I think I would like the heroine to be a bit more affectionate with the heroes.
Blood Magic starts off with Ariel and Dash recovering from what happened in book two. As she is recovering and hiding from the council that is in town, she can concentrate on other matters. Like all of the secrets and not being told what is going on. If she is to become a part of this coven the guys need to let her in. But that is proving to be more difficult than she thought. Whenever she thinks she is understanding one of her guys, something else comes up. While some bonds are getting stronger, others are staying the same. Ariel has a choice, commit to her coven fully or back off. The choice may be taken out of her hands soon, for the Council of Elders are not going away and they are very interested in Ariel.
Blood Magic did not have some action like books one and two did. It concentrated more on the relationship building and history of the boys. It is great to be finding out more about the boys and their history. Ariel is growing up more, after all she is young, and is coming into her own. You can see her making decisions and actually thinking of what needs to be done and what is best for the group. Her comfort level with them is growing as well. Loved the intimacy that is growing between her and the guys. A couple of scenes had me saying come on, do more, but I am enjoying the slow pace that is perfect for this series. I really love all of the guys, each one has a personality that is unique to them. I don't really have a favorite, okay maybe a few. Quinton is just so alpha, instant love for me. The salt and pepper twins are of course just as yummy. Julian is as always a sexy hot mess. Overall Blood Moon is a great addition to the Ariel Kimber series, it may not be as fast paced as the first two, but it makes up for it with the character insights we have as well as relationship growth. Still a slow build romance, but I have to tell you it just makes it that much sweeter when it does happen. There is quite the cliff hanger, and I am really needing to see where this leads.
I forgot how much I liked this story. It's been way too long since I've read an Ariel Kimber book. The writing, the banter between the characters, the guys themselves and Ariel, Gods I forgot how much I liked Ariel! That girl knows how to handle herself around the guys (well, most of the time she does) and how to handle the guys as well. She might be vulnerable at times, but that does not mean that she'll let anyone push her around. Ariel has got spank and I love that about her. Also, I enjoyed the fact that we're finally getting to know more about Julian and even Damien. It's about time those two join the fun. On top of that, we got to see a completely different sides to the characters that I, personally thought we had all figured out. I like that there is a depth to every character and that we haven't seen everything yet.
Now, on a completely different note, can we stop talking about that bitch? “I was well and truly over the whole Annabell thing. I feared for the safety of the next person who brought that horrid bitch’s name up in my presence”. It's juts, how much longer are we going to drag that thing on? It's like she the root of all the problems and I'm so over that. We have the Council, plus the whole missing father situation. Can we switch to those and forget that Annabell even existed? Speaking of missing parents, I am (like Ariel) both dreading the moment when we will finally get to meet Rain Kimber, and cannot wait for it to happen. And by we I totally mean Quinton. That is ought to be fun, don't you think?
while this is not one of my favourite RH I keep on reading, its not the storyline for me that bothers me a little, it's the writing, for me its sometimes gets jumbled (is that the right word?) I do love that the interaction with the guys seem to progress and I am not sorry to say that Tyson is not my favourite anymore, its Dash and even a little more towards Julian. Tyson keeps living in the past with that whole Annabell story and he is in my opinion to jealous to share her. The ending of the book left me confused... The title says it already blood magic and Ariel repeatedly kept saying that blood magic was not for her, and she as I saw it wanted nothing to do with it, yet at the end of the book she suddenly is doing a spell, a bloodspell yet and maybe I missed that part she knows nothing about it or has read anything about it.. It was to rushed and would have been more believable if at least she had some knowledge instead of the little info Quinton gave her.
I love this series so I really hate to say that I was disappointed with book three. Not sure what happened to our strong, assertive and independent mc. In this book she is constantly second guessing herself and her inner dialog is repeatedly talking about mundane things that add nothing to the story, last several paragraphs and make up most of the story. There was very little character development and many inconsistencies in the storyline. The most interesting part of the book was the ending. The first two books were great and I really love this series so I’m not giving up. I’m anxiously waiting for book four and hoping it will be as great as the first two books.
Rating 3,5 I know that some of you didn't like this book at all and felt like it was a waste of time and money. I can agree on some parts that it was a bit slow and that it didn't happen much and it felt like it was more of an 2,5 book more than 3, cuz the story didn't really move forward ( if ya know what i mean) until the ending But i can disagtee also cuz i liked it in a way, you got to know all of them better on a deeper level. I also liked Ariels sassynes and that i felt their relationship grew stronger
This book was mainly focusing on the relationship and all of the emotions , The ending was not a cliffhanger not really but it was kind of unclear
Chaos, rumbling and frenzy from the boys, comical dialogue from Ariel (istg, I lost count how many times I laughed out loud when she's grumbling...mostly at the guys...)...then that creepy ending. I think this series has a modus operandi of having its climax near the end of each book. And though I'm pretty bummed out about that and the slight shortcomings on the plot department, on the other hand, I'm having waaay much fun at how Ariel and her boyfriends friends' day-to-day events unravel. Plus, this also meant more development to the relationships between Ariel and her guys.
There were so many times throughout this book that I wanted to throw my tablet against the wall. I mean, how in the heck did this get into a reverse harem book genre? I mean yeah okay the seven guys, but there's nothing physical. Nothing sexual. Not even sexual tension. Okay how about this, so far this series is more like introduction to, possible, reverse harem. This is more for the 15-year-olds who are curious. And should not have ended up on a kink site.
I really wanted to like this book but I couldn't... It was really slow paced, I'm not even going to start talking about the MC and the book almost didn't have dialogues at all, it was always what the MC was thinking.
Initially I was just going to give it my 5 stars and be on my way. Being as though I seen some of the reviews I thought it best to put in for my opinion. The only issue I had with this series is the repeating of the way that the guys looked. I was like we get it they are HOT guys, but it was still a good book. I look forward to seeing the next book 8n this series.
I feel like I need to pat myself on the back for actually managing to finish these 3 books in the series. Holy crap but that was atrocious. Plot? Barely any development. Characters? Still annoying as f*ck. My time? Utterly and truly wasted. Safe to say that I won't be returning for the 4th book.
Awkward. Everything about this book was awkward. The guys were awkward, Ariel's interactions with them were awkward, the plot was awkward. Honestly, I'm not sure I will even continue the series. The only interesting thing that occurred in the whole plot was the last page. Otherwise, it was just weird and uncomfortable.
Ariel and Dash are recovering from Chuck's attack. While not devastated by the addition of yet another scar, this one on her face, Ariel is concerned about the reaction the guys will all have to her marred appearance. Her concerns that they are only interested in her since she is a rare female with magic are now even greater. Quinton is consumed with guilt over his role as well. Ariel is attempting to get to know Julian and Damien better, spend time with her Salt and Pepper twins, Dash, and Tyson, and denying her growing feelings for Quinton. Her desire to get to know the guys better conflicts with her feelings that they have put her on a pedestal to admire and keep safe but are not being open and honest with her. Her frustration is growing. Add in new information about her father and the continued presence of the Council and Ariel has all she can handle. She's determined to stop being a coward and face her life so it's time for her to step up and take control.
Blood Magic is an excellent book. My love for the guys continues to grow. Spending time with Julian and Damien, gaining a little insight into them was wonderful. Both are deeply complex and fit nicely into the rest of this damaged group. The Salt and Pepper twins are always fantastic with their constant need to reconnect as is Tyson with his barely contained temper. We didn't get too much of Dash since he is still recovering but what we did was great. And Uncle Quinton, Sigh... I can't get enough of this scowling, beautifully nasty-tempered, controlling man! The intricate relationships between these "brothers", the rocky dynamics and tension, the unbreakable bond gives this RH a different feel than many others and allows it to stand out. But while I adore this group of men, flaws and all, I am over their continuing exaltation of Annabell. Yes, they fell for her, yes, she was a true witch, yes she nearly destroyed the coven but either move on and put her ghost to rest or risk losing the next female. It's too much hanging over Ariel; the comparisons, the second-guessing, the lingering pain. I am constantly surprised that Ariel doesn't explode and threaten to find another coven if Annabell isn't put in the past. As my love for the guys deepens, my affection for Ariel lessens. I am having difficulty with her mood swings and her self-absorbedness. Trust me, I understand. Her life has been difficult, lately, it's been in constant turmoil. If she was able to smile and be cheery this would not be realistic. The book is better, more genuine for her reactions but that doesn't help me appreciate her behavior. I would like her to step out of her head, accept the guys being nice, communicate more instead of internalizing everything, being resentful, and exploding. I look forward to her growth as a person once she feels safe enough in her new life and with the guys. The few times she got "inspired" give me great hope for her character!
The timeline for this book is so small but we get so much information. Julian and Damien's hurts and insecurities, Ariel's family, the mystery and bizarre behavior of the Council made for an absorbing story. So many secrets revealed. So much angst and such a sense of foreboding. But for now, morning donuts, movie nights, twin sandwiches, this girl needs to start embracing life.
I received this book from the authors for an honest review.
Each book blows me away. Each book gives me answers but then leaves me with even more questions. Each book we see Ariel bonding with the 7 guys and each book I am dying seeing all the love and affection to grow. We find out more secrets about ANNABELL….GROWL….we learn about how she took advantage of our guys. We also see the damage she caused is still a thing on the present.
This book has so much stuff happening and so many secrets spilling yet leaving us wondering CRAP what is Tyson’s dream all about and bigger CRAP what do the council want with our girl. Side note: Dude the council are some creepy old mo foes. I wanted to say “Put your dicks away because she will not be taking a ride on that saggy thing. Have you SEEN her 7 guys?? EXACTLY!!”
So this book takes place right after the show down with crazy in love Chucky. Dash and Ariel are healing, and Quinton is a mess. He feels so much guilt because he caused the crazy Chucky issue to happen in the first place. This book I LOVED getting to know Julian and Damien. Jules is the pensive yet scares the hell outta me guy. Damien is the hottie who is so outta your reach but seeing him flustered over Ariel was so sweet.
Seeing Quinton and Tyson with our girl so open with affection toward Ariel is awesome. Seeing Ariel admit to how she is feeling for her guys was so awesome. She has come a long way to accepting this life she is choosing with our guys. But my favorite…sigh….the Twin sandwich….sigh. I have missed my Salt and Pepper storyline so YEAH to getting to hang with them for a bit in the book.
I could totally sit here and just list everything about this book but you need to read it. I think this book does a great job moving our girl and her boys developing love along. It also is setting up finding Ariel’s father and the council is up to noooooo good. Blood magic is being used and I think this will be a very big big big problem for our family in the future.
I do like the idea of this series. But it's book #3 and I don't think anything has changed since book #1. The men are still strangers, the magic is nonexistent and Ariel hasn't changed. It's disappointing because I would love to read more about the magic. There has been a few developments but not enough for me to be satisfied. We got to learn more about the three mysterious men but we got glimpses of who they are, not really in depth learning. Another thing, is this book is extremely repetitive. It's book #3 I don't need the information I learned in book #1 and again in book #2 to be repeated. A few reminders would be nice but I don't need a whole paragraph. Also, the author describes characters that we know very well like Tyson and the Twins. We know them I don't need to be reminded about what they look like. Remind me about the other three we haven't gotten to know quite as well. But I still haven't given up on this series, I will continue to read it.
Mary Martel has done it again. Blood Magic picked up right where Love Potion left off and sucked me further into Ariel's story. I liked this book a lot because we get to learn about some of the guy's and their pasts and we are further introduced to the ever mysterious Council. There's also a bit more magic in this one. I do like that the books haven't been like constant magic and spells all the time, but I am happy that Mary Martel us still gradually introducing us to more aspects of magic in each story. I read this book so quickly (I've been waiting like 5 months for it) and I can't believe it's already over. I hope book 4 comes out very very soon... I NEED to know what happens next!!!!
Ariel has gone from survival mode to trying to live. Learning she's a witch was a shock. Learning about her mother, and what occurred with her, was another. But the attack that occurred in the end of book 2 threw her on her butt. Realizing what lengths the guys would go to to protect her has given her a better sense of self worth. Losing Mr Cole shook the foundation but the guys are working on rebuilding that. Slow burn takes in a double meaning with this coven. They are the Brothers of the Flame and this is a slow, building romance. After the mistake with the previous witch they tried to add to the coven they realize that there has to be more than an attraction. There has to be genuine friendship to build on. So the guys come out of hiding and reveal themselves to her. But the Council has discovered her existence. She'll have to meet with them to cement her place with the Brothers. After the stories she's heard this just rocks that shaky foundation further. What are they going to decide?
While the age gap isn't high, the amount of life in those years is. I'm still coming to terms with a 21yo, a couple 20-21yos, interested in a 17yo. So I appreciate the time being given for her to mature fully. Yes, she isn't naive due to her upbringing but she's still not a legal adult and has a severe lack of socialization. Seeing more of who the guys really are is nice. I'm a little concerned by her lack of ambition. Dropping out of school with no real plans is sad. She claims to not want to be dependent but without the account left by Marcus or the financial support of the Brothers would be out on the street. And currently no way to support herself as a minor and no completed education. She's even stalled on the magic front. Something that is still vague and in the background. I know she's adjusting after the craziness that has been occurring to and around her but I want to see her want something for herself. The one goal she has at this point is finding the man in the letters. While admirable, it isn't a self sustainable sort of ambition. But, I have the feel that this is a transition novel. It is leading to something in the next one and it has my curiosity piqued. While I didn't enjoy it as much as the previous ones I was entertained and am still invested in the series. I love a mystery. And Ariel is a mystery, wrapped in a riddle inside an enigma that I need to solve.
Not my favorite book of the series so far, but it does set some stuff up for book 4 and beyond. I don't mind slow-born romances, and I knew going in this was definitely on the suuuuper slow side so I am not disappointed in how this are progressing. I will say one of the characters is becoming my least favorite and I was shocked by it (I am already listening to book 4 and his character gets even worse) so I am a little thrown with everything.
Overall I thought this was a decent book in the series. There wasn't a lot of plot, some rehashing of past books. We get to see Ariel recover and Dash recover from what happened in book 2, get to meet the infamous Council and learn more about Ariel's dad/aunt situation based on the what was found in that box. We get to see different facets of the guys who didnt get some showcasing in previous books, to help set the stage for us falling for them (particularly the older 3 guys). I loved seeing the cuddle sessions btw Ariel and some of her guys haha and the cat is adorable as always. Also, the whole deal with her face was a little over the top for me, but I liked getting some insight into Julian's demeanor and behavior. I am happy she is slowly getting closer to some of the guys, hopefully we get even a smidgen of heat soon haha. It's like blue balls on steroids haha, but again because the plot is intriguing and the character development is there, I am just being wishful here, not complaining.
Overall would give this a 3.5-4 stars for the story. I rounded it up to a 4 star because the audio helped bring these characters to life even more. The anguish with the aftermath of Chuck's showdown was fabulous, the wariness with the Council, Quinton's alpha-hole tendencies and Ariel putting him in his place was also a great performance. Also his guilt with the incident was palpable. The whole thing with Annabelle is going to be a bigger thing I bet, and based on the high emotions in this one, I know its only going to get worse when she becomes more involved in the storyline.
I have to admit, I struggled reading this book. There are way too many descriptive pages of people, places and things. All of people, places and things might need a “little” refresher, but since we are now on book three – readers should know, by now, what everything looks like. I seriously do not need pages of every little piece of clothing Ariel is wearing. Or even why she chose that outfit in the first place. Total filler. Skimming and skipping pages were a part of reading this book.
At this point in the storyline, I am more interested in the seven coven brothers. Ariel is just too whiney and she really needs to have some character development happening along the way. At what point in the series do the seven brothers start to teach her any magic? Sure, they are telling her about it, which is a start – but when does she really start to use her magic? I mean we are in book three. And…the Council of Elders taught her a Blood Magic spell to help her find her father? Really? She hasn’t even learned how to move an object across the room – and suddenly WHAM – she is doing blood magic?
While there is some progress being made on her relationships with the seven brothers, for a RH book we are moving at a snail’s pace. I do get that she is nervous and only seventeen, but there could be more hand holding, kissing, touching – something. I am beginning to wonder if the guys really like her – or like her because she has magic and they are a coven that wants a female witch? Shouldn’t there be some sort of chemistry happening? Yes, they all have feelings towards one another, but where on earth is the chemistry.
There were a few twists to the story that did help me power through. The Council of Elders, Chucky, the mystery of her father and her moving in with Dash were all good points to the storyline….just wished we had more storyline and less inner dialogue. I have purchased book four, so hoping for a better read.
12/31/22- Ariel is still irritating as fuck and I still genuinely do not understand why the guys like her. I'll keep reading, but only because the plot is very interesting and the guys are great.
Unfortunately, I think we only got one break from Ariel's narration in this one, but I'm really hoping for a more consistent reprieve in the next book. The writing is magically so much better when it's not in Ariel's POV, which is very sad since she's the main voice and we're apparently supposed to like her. I mean, I'm glad that the author is able to have her different characters' personalities come through when she changes the POV, but Ariel's is just so starkly different in terms of quality of writing. All of Ariel's POV reads like a very rough 1st draft, and the other POVs read much more smoothly and are actually enjoyable.
Reading through the sludge of Ariel's narration is very taxing on the mind and I don't know how much more I can take. Worst case scenario, I'll lose my already thin patience with Ariel and close the book, then move onto Tyson and Dash's novellas before I say goodbye to this series and this author forever.
Added 1/2/23- ***Heads up that M/M is suddenly dropped into the storyline in Book #5. I don't have a problem with M/M, but I do have a problem with an author completely changing the course of a romance with no hint of potential M/M. It came completely out of left field and was handled so poorly that it broke through the already thin patience I had with this author that I stopped reading after that. Good luck getting through this mess. I'm only leaving my 2 stars for the interesting plot and for literally every other character but Ariel.
