Dr. Ian Wallace, a rare Scottish Wolf, has dedicated his life to saving and healing wolf shifters by joining Frontline Doctors. Determined never to take a mate, he avoids relationships and is content to live a nomadic life, taking assignments to wild and remote places. That is, until an old friend asks him for a favor which Ian’s wolf will not let him refuse. Now on his way to the Blackwood Pack compound, his wolf becomes frantic and Ian learns not only that he has a Fated Mate, but that his Fated Mate is in danger.
Colton was forced to give up his dreams of becoming a nurse and joining Frontline Doctors when tragedy befell his family. Instead, he healed sick animals around his home while hiding from a pack who wanted him dead. Given the chance to use his skills, Colton seizes it and embarks on a journey that will reveal just how special he is.
A kidnapping, slave auction, revelations of long-kept family secrets and a rare, powerful gift from the gods are some of the surprises in store for both of them until they finally find their way into each other’s hearts after discovering neither is who the other thought he was.
A few years ago, I wrote my first book, Dire Warning. Readers loved it and I was on my way to chronicle the Blackwood Pack, seven brothers who are gay wolf shifters in search of their fated mates—stories about love at first sight with twists and turns, angst and humor, romance and adventure and, of course, happy endings. Since then, the pack has expanded, allowing more stories to be told and different paranormals to be included. The series has become, as one reader described it…an “Epic Saga.” Now, twelve books later, Lord Manetu has just been published. I love the M/M paranormal genre because it gives my imagination a lot of territory in which to roam. My mind can really run wild and come up with some amazing stuff when it doesn’t have to stay inside the box. My story ideas come to me as if they were being channeled by my characters, all of whom I love (except for a few villains). They are eager to recount their lives, loves and adventures, and are not reluctant to let it all out when it comes to revealing steamy details. My writing style is free-wheeling and uninhibited and my readers tell me they love it that way; that it makes them feel like they’re right in on the action and a member of the Blackwood Pack. I live in the Northeast and love the beautiful change of seasons, my husband, and our quirky calico cat, though not necessarily in that order. I read a lot (good for the mind) and love gardening (good for the soul). And I’m always happy to hear from my readers and can be reached through Facebook, my private Facebook Group, Twitter, Instagram, or my website.
I’ve come to terms with the fact that Rundle’s narrative style is a bit chaotic and oftentimes long-winded for my usual liking, but boy oh boy do I enjoy the large (ever-growing) cast of characters, the shifter lore, the pack vibes, the steamy fated mates pairings, and the overarching plot threads that keep things fun, engaging and hella entertaining in this moreish series.
Although we get a new fated mates pair here with Colton and Ian, this is all still very much an ensemble piece (and not a standalone story), with POV moments from multiple characters, including the baddies, and featuring a larger plot that carries on directly from book one (Dire Warning).
The POVs often change within a paragraph or two, so it takes a bit of adjusting and a go-with-the-flow mentality to get used to the narrative, but after two books (both almost 400 pages each), I now consider myself used to the style, to the point it doesn’t jar me nearly as much as it did when I first picked up Dire Warning.
I liked care-giver, healing-blessed, nurse-in-training Colton—one of the original seven wolf shifter brothers at the center of this series—and his newly found fated mate, rare Scottish wolf shifter, Dr. Ian Wallace. The two don’t meet face-to-face until quite a way into this story (I believe around page 160) but, shockingly, this didn’t bother me in the slightest—in fact, it probably added nicely to the building tension and the desperate passion that swiftly unfolded the moment they were finally face-to-face.
On one hand, the insta-love/lust vibes were just as strong and immediate as they were in book one, but the slow-burn build-up to Colton and Ian actually meeting, at the tail-end of quite a high-stress survival situation, added to this couples emotional resonance for me as a reader. Sure, they didn’t get much actual on-page time getting-to-know one another—it’s not that kind of in-depth fated mates romance, people—but I was happy with what I got, and, overall, I had a good ol’ time reading Colton and Ian’s story, just the way it was.
In this instalment, I particularly enjoyed the mission in Mexico, the face-to-face introduction of Dr. Ian to the Blackwood pack (not just as Colton’s mate, but as Jackson’s doctor), with my favourite scenes revolving around Jackson finally giving birth and how Colton’s special gift came into play at the most pivotal moment of the series to date.
On reflection, I liked this sequel even more than its predecessor, which is a nice revelation to have. Mostly, I appreciate the way Rundle has solidly endeared me to (most of) this wild and wonderful cast of characters, creating enough intrigue and promise for future stories and pairings, that I can’t help but be eager to read on for more romance and shenanigans with the Blackwood pack (and their magical friends).
Meh... I really shouldn’t have read this right after the first one. Unfortunately the couple from books ones story was finished in this book and I just had to know.
What I realized in this book?
The characters are all the same... there are very little variations in each characters voice. Everyone used the same endearments and say the same thing during sex, hell you wouldn’t be able to tell anyone apart just based on speech patterns, that’s the only issue when you have multiple POVs of multiple couples as well as others. I mean 2 different people said “Foot-loose and fancy free” one being the Alpha in the last book and the villain in this book... Sorry that’s not really a common term and coming from 2 totally different people it was enough to catch my eye and bother the crap out of me.
Also in this book we are still dealing with a lot of long winded sentences that really didn’t add anything to the story.
Truly I’m surprised this was so highly rated... but that’s just me, maybe on a different day those things wouldn’t have bothered me.
Getting right into this review! These families are laid bare. All their faults and fears are shown in every decision made. It's all because the Fates deemed it so.
Except who signed off on the mass murder. Cause they uncle was wrong for that. It seems he was after the boys. Valuable minerals beenin on the pack land, looks like a bonus. How come so many are helping him.
Who is the antagonist that would go up against the Fates? I am so invested in these wolves.
Mary Rundle’s Blackwood Pack #2 Rapheal’s Power was deffinately a continuation of #1 (aside from the fact that the overarching plot seemed to be put on hold for 90% of the book) and the ‘weirness’ continued. I realized that I was reacting to a combination of the jerky writing style. Maybe not jerky – but dialoug blocks dropped in? Combined with the huge mood swings of the characters who all just brushed it off to mating urges – except they all demonstrated these huge swings – I am a rational person/wolf – I am a lunitic – I am rational. And the emotions!! They are all there and all vomitted out at the same time to be sorted out as you ( I ) continue to reluctantly, but relentlessly read. Still – like watching a bad accident I am headed for #3. It is difficult to rate these books – I really want to give a 3 because they annoy me, but the ideas and overall plot are worth a 4, then I remember how much the lack of flow and character actions bug me. It comes down to are these books a snack or a meal. Well, reading them does not feel like a meal – it gives me the reader’s equivalent to heartburn – yet I continue to read. WHY??
Great story, but what happened to the Dire Warning?
I definitely enjoyed this book as much as the first. I felt that, while the overall threat to the Blackwood Pack is still there, there was a much more satisfying conclusion to the immediate threats to Colton and Ian in this book than what we saw in Dire Warning.
My one question though is what happened to the Dire Warning? Slate was pretty clear when he issued the warning that if anything happened to any of the Blackwood wolves while this was being investigated, then a Die Wolf would immediately challenge Josiah to the death over control of his pack, even if Josiah had nothing to do with the incident. And yet, that didn't even come up as a possibility in conversation when Colton was abducted, or at any time afterward. If they don't follow through, that will only encourage Josiah and anyone else with similar greed.
Who would have thought that a contest would lead to such a great series. I love the concept of shifters with more than shifter abilities. Then you have the continued story of Josiah while each book also has their own plot makes it perfect. Also, there must be something big brewing for all these powers to be coming together. I can't wait for Cody's story and wonder what's so important about Dylon. Now the waiting begins.
Raphael’s Power Audiobook MMy Thoughts Confessions and Review ❤🧡💛💚💙💜
First, a personal message to the author: Mary Darlin’, it is not very nice to make old dragon blubber like they were watching a scene from an old Patrick Swayze film. Not once, but twice I had to grab tissues. Ugly snotty crying I tell ya… I totally forgive you but only if you promise to keep releasing these books to audio. Nick Russo does such a wonderful job voicing this family of shifters, and even their enemies. Oh, and when laid back Max had to use HIS Alpha voice to calm all the other alphas, whoa that was hawt! So, keep ‘em comin’! Please! I will be oh so grateful, though I cannot vouch for my tear ducts.
Now, for everyone else, this is a continuing series (my favorite kind) with a different brother or member of the pack finding their fated mate. This pack is different in that they’ve been blessed by the Fates and when each one finds their fated it unlocks a special gift or power inside of them and it often reveals a secret (hidden) gift in their mate as well. A remarkably interesting take on shifters, especially specific types of wolf shifters you don’t hear much about. I’ve said before, but it’s always worth mentioning again, how much fun it is to see the different directions authors take legends and lore. This series is working hard to become one of my favorites.
Rundle does a great job of not letting the MCs from the first book get left behind in the shadows. She also slowly brings the other secondary cast members closer to the spotlight. We learn little nuggets about them and their personalities. I love character-driven stories, and this is absolutely that. Its images are made manifest through Russo’s various voice talents and I am telling you, picturing Ian with wet black curly hair speaking in his Scottish brogue…DONE! Just DONE! *sigh…
I loved the MCs in book two. Ian, a doctor, and Colton an “almost” nurse already have a rapport through their various phone conversations, even if they were only medical or hospital-related. I loved how dedicated Colton was to help, and his special gift made it that much more lovely. Nurses have a special place in my heart anyway (love you mom), and I think it takes the spirit of a gladiator and with the heart of an angel to be one. Colton was every bit that and more, and that was even before meeting his beautiful Scottish Doctor, Ian, face to face. Not everything is glorious and perfect though, and an old enemy has a long reach.
While Dire Warning (book one) made me want to “Van Damme” someone in the face, a lot (in a good way), book two had me nail-biting, mumbling to myself about how people never listen, and Boys are so stubborn (I know, I raised four), etc.… then the tears came. I do not cry (refer to paragraph one), but lemme tell ya something Virginia, there be times when even an old crotchety woman’s black heart can squeeze out an emotion or two.
I love this family and their protectiveness and love for one another. They are only two mates in and already the pack is adding life and beauty to a world they once believed to be their living nightmare of survival. With each challenge, they grow in power, strength, number, and spirit. I cannot wait to see what the Fates have in store for the next brother. His love story is already in jeopardy and it hasn’t even begun yet.
If you love wolf shifter series, you cannot miss this one. The audio version is wonderful!

I received a complimentary audio copy of this book from Other Worlds Ink in exchange for my review. 👑
Okay I'm being slowly drawn into this magical world of were brothers and now I'v become a willing captive.I'm interested to learn about each new power that is being revealed by each brother who feels the pull of their mate and where that journey takes them. The series is bit on the sweet side of storytelling but I guess we can all use some sugar now and again to offset the sourness that reality occasionally brings
I really didn’t like this one as much as book one but I still liked the characters. The brothers have a special bond that is very apparent to anyone who meets them.
Colton is very passionate about his goal of finishing his nursing degree. Taking care of his brothers has helped fill the void that was taken from him. While he is compassionate, he is also very stubborn but that is not very often, thankfully.
Ian Wallace is a very compassionate, very hard-working and willing to do about anything to help those in need even putting their care above his own. He has had a rough background but has never let that drag him down.
Truthfully, I liked Ian a lot more then I did Colton and that pains me to admit but together they are great. As doctor and nurse, they work so good together combining their knowledge and experiences to heal Shifters.
*** Copy provided to Bayou Book Junkie for my reading pleasure, a review wasn't a requirement. ***
This series reminds me so much of the Cloverleah Pack by Lisa Oliver x)
I appreciate that there is an overall story going through the books and that the author doesn't pretend that these are all "standalones" and that you can read them on their own and then they have to do boring recaps dumps for the people that decided to start at book 5.
The narration style is a bit all over the place since we follow ALL the characters and the POV constantly changes in between paragraphs (we even get random bad guy's povs) ]
This is one of my least favourite books in the series 😓 I really like Ian and I remember liking them as characters in the following books bit in this one Colton is the stupidest idiot ever and I just can't with his reasonings 😒
Okay, I'm liking this better. I think this might be a series that gets better each book. Normally I think I would complain about the two MC's not even meeting until chapter 17 I think. But in this case it was a good thing. We needed to get to know the characters first before the instant mate connection. I kinda hope that continues. Once they meet, it's to instant. Can we get a little get to know you time. Sure, I don't mind the insta-lust. But maybe some relationship building before BLAM Love. So being able to get a feel for the characters separately helped.
I liked getting to see the baby born, and the rest of the family. Good for Ian for having a moment of anger. Not long enough imo.
I'm looking forward to book 3, much more than I was book 2. I was hoping for Dylon.
This is the second book in the Blackwood Pack series. We get to see more about the struggle that Colton is going through. The miss opportunity of following his dreams are in the past or so he thought. One minute you will be laughing and the next you are holding on to the edge of your sit. This is one of these reads that draws you in with the detail of characters that you cant put this book down to the end. Cant wait to see which brother is next to go one crazy ride and find that special someone to hold on to. Highly recommend read today and it is a must to read the book in order so you will have a full understanding of the characters and background
I'm not sure where to start. This book and series is amazing. I can't wait for the next one. I will tell you, you will need tissues. You will laugh so hard with the antics of Jackson and Steel and you'll cry so hard at the sad parts. I can't get over Colton and Ian. The mental battles they went through. I don't want to give to much away but you have to read this book and the one before it. They both kept me on the edge of my seat and didn't get much sleep. I couldn't put the book down. Mary, you did an excellent job and I can't wait to read more of your books. A must read people.
Looking forward to the next installment of the series! Got a bit sugary sweet at times, but not tooooo much. It did seem (to me) that the personalities of Ian and Cody kinda flipped in the middle of the book and I was a little confused. But once the big reveal was... revealed it made much more since to me. I DO recommend this book (But ya gotta read the first or you'll be lost) and eagerly await book 3 that we get a taste of at the conclusion of this book! That one should be reeeeally good!!
I really like the over-arching plot. Unfortunately, The Big Bad is a forethought and and afterthought with small villains interspersed in-between.
The steamy bits are formulaic (sort of), even though each set of MCs in the series face different challenges.
Things build up, Build Up, BUILD UP! And are almost too easily resolved.
The gold star goes to the long game, because that's building up to be something epic. In the meantime, minor miscommunications, misunderstandings, and vapid relationship challenges abound.
This book has it all! Action, intrigue, angst, love, sweet romance, lots a sizzle, family, laughter. I love Colton and Ian. So many great surprises and developments in the on going story arc. Mary Rundle knows how to build a world and weave a story that grabs you from the first page till the end and leaves you asking when the next book in the story comes out. Absolutely a must read for the whole series.
Oh my goodness, I am a devoted fan of this series by Mary Rundle. A five star rating is well deserved for such a well written plot of intrigue, hot romance and a strong family connection. Please read book 1, then follow-up with book 2, I can guarantee that you will enjoy a relaxing evening of good reading.
When I started reading, I loved all things shifter. Then suddenly, I found M/M shifter romance. I have to say, that this is by far the best I have read and I have tried quite a few authors. I can’t wait for the rest of the Blackwood series, so don’t make me wait too long....PLEASE!
I love a book that is more than 100 pages long. Plus, you keep everyone else in the story. I am not happy when authors drop the other couples when they pick up the new ones. Your sex scenes were hot. I am going to have a time waiting to see who you have picked for all the rest of the brothers.
Wow what a tale i am loving these books the over arching story is so exciting and fast paced. The love story is intense too. Colton and Ian make a fabulous couple but the other characters are at the forefront of the story too. Can't wait for the next one to see what happens with the next brother.
Could it be better then the first book? Thinking it might be by a smidge. You end up drawn into the story so much you end up biting your nails waiting for the next one to come out. So can't wait for book 3!
OMG...Ms. Rundle hit one out of the park. This book was better then the first and I really loved the first one. Well written story with kick ass characters. I CAN NOT wait until the next book comes out. This author just moved to my must have list.
i loved every thing this book has to offer except for all the "bro". maybe it is just the little missouri town girl in me but just used way to much. there are other words for brother that could have been used.
Another absolute stunner! Mary, you have done it again, compelling story from the first page to the last. Unable to put this book down! Great job Mary, keep them coming!
