An enjoyable read. Probably my favourite book by Lyn Andrews.
This book has a simple premise, next door neighbours, one Catholic one protestant, an unlikely friendship between two teenage girls that has to be kept secret.
Celia and Lizzy both fall for each other's brothers and many complications ensue.
Really good characters, in fact that's what makes this book brilliant.

I’m so happy I persevered with this book. It’s a wonderful tale of war in the guise of religion & the love and strength they needed to overcome their many troubles.

This author's books always win with me - love the easy reading and the fast pace of the story.

Back Cover Blurb:
Next door neighbours Lizzie and Celia are best friends, but their families are the worst of enemies, so they keep their friendship a secret. But one day Celia falls in love with Lizzie's brother, Joe, and Joe finds himself drawn towards her. Can they break through the prejudice of generations?

Far too many characters and tragedies in one book - I couldn’t keep up!

Very good book full of good and bad drama.
I felt it was true to the live style in that period

Typical Lynn Andrews story set in a prewar slum area of Liverpool. The characters are well built and the story put together in an interesting and enjoyable way.
