The Howard Witches and company face a dangerous new threat in the form of a long-time nemesis' daring return to The Demon Isle. It's been over fifty years since they've stepped foot on the Isle after starting a war for control of the Power Source. A time that has secret and special meaning for vampire, William Wakefield, and awakens painful memories he's tried to suppress but no longer can, and only fuel his current romantic dilemmas with Melinda. But these traitors from the past declare that they come in peace and wish to make up for past wrongs. Can they be trusted? Or are the Howard's being set up for another war?
Not my favourite in the series I will admit. Again, the author has stuck with very simplistic and sometimes repetitive writing, as well as continuing to mix up character POV. There is a certain scene towards the end, I do not think the use of fuzzy and peach make that scene as sexy as the author possibly intented. I also felt Charlie and Melinda were too trusting and naive. For example Melinda with Riley to the point she did not even know his last name. And Charlie helping the mermaids although his instincts said no without even asking about the situation, purely because he got distracted by nakedness. However, saying that I loved the Deane twist. It was predictable but I liked it and adds a new dilemma for the characters. I do like Riley. The shapeshifter and the plan to use the mermaids was fun. Eva and her plans to get to Charlie intrigue me. I like the bloodsuckers, they must just be giant leeches but never come across them before so that was interesting. Overall, it was a quick read and the characters are likeable so I am happy to continue reading the series.
