A Wolf Shifter Mpreg Romance

A reclusive captain and his fearless omega are tossed together in a deadly storm…

Captain Logan Harris learned early: a happy family meant having something to lose. After years at sea avoiding all other shifters, the solitary alpha believes he’s managed to escape his fate.

But when Logan responds to a distress signal from a nearby research boat, the survivors include a wolf that only Logan identifies as his omega. And when Dr. William Blanchard is brought on board by the surly fishing captain, he recognizes his alpha wolf instantly.

As the two men grow close, Will realizes that Logan has a quiet, pervasive fear of commitment that could tear their budding relationship apart.

Can these two polar opposites - a thrill-seeking crab fisherman and an educated, reserved environmentalist - manage to make it work as they try to build a family?

Fate howls in The Captain’s Baby, a 50,000-word stand-alone gay paranormal romance adventure. Steamy scenes abound in this wolf shifter, opposites-attract story – adults only!

I bailed at 33%

I’m confused as to why this has such great reviews. It was like a MM Shifter book set in an episode of Deadliest Catch and Whale Wars. Also they excessively called each other Alpha and Omega. Not my cup of tea.

I'm sorry but this was horrible.... the omega losing his friends and then jumping the bones of the captain and saying they love each other before they even know each other's name. I'm sorry but DNF.

A love story that will surely have you all bundled up next to the fire waiting to get to that last rascally last page.
Captain of the sea, Logan Harris a alpha wolf shifter will stop at nothing to keep the wind in his sails and the land at bay. Avoiding wolf shifters at all costs, he really thought he'd be safe from his fate of finding his forever mate. But he knoes that even though a family can bring happieness, it can also bring disaster. He's learned early in life that a happy family is something that though dear for him to start, he doesn't want to lose it all due the sea that he loves to sail. That is until he meets the smart omega shifter fated for him... what will he do? How will he hide from his fate now? It's so steamy that the blanket you bundle in may be just too hot for this book....

[WARNING!! Please SKIP THIS BRACKET if you want to DIRECTLY READ THE REVIEW

Honestly, I didn't have any expectation for shifters novels.I have read some and half to two thirds of the stories contain sex scenes. Yup, those are hot, but the more and more I read, it became painfully boring because the storyline is clouded and not deep enough.
To top it off, I don't feel that much love from the couple because they basically fall in love at first sight, like really at first sight. Yeah, they care for each other, there is jealousy, and all other things a couple has, but I see that as an act of instinct, not love.]

I need a change of pace from my usual genre of books and the excerpt of this book made me felt a bit curious.
The first half is like what I expected from shifters omegaverse, like how they met (of course it is the typical love at the first sight), pregnant, etc. The progress is so fast and I almost lost faith that this would be unlike any common shifters novels.

However, half to end is interesting.
I do love the alpha. Authors described Logan as someone who has a tendency to run away from problem. To say the truth, it is pretty bold. But even with that single immense flaw, I still see Logan as an alpha.
There are also their jobs. That's the one that make me interested. Scientist and a crab boat's captain? Well, that should be noted in capital letters.
I feel the love from them and agree that they really mean for each other from half-end.
The marriage? It's nice. Sunset, beach, and all.
The parents? I hope I can be like Logan, cool and all, when I meet my parents-in-law n_n".
And yeah, Shandra is too meddlesome but I'm okay with her. Dan, well, I love him! He has some sort of humour. That's why I was a little bit shock when he appeared but can joke normally (because Shandra described him as a workaholic who didn't really care much outside his job). Wanna see those two alpha talk more. I like the brief coversation between them when they first met before the wedding's day.
And I absolutely need to give comments about the kids! I love them so much, especially Jacob. That scene in bathroom with Lisa and Logan is the cutest!

Why four stars?
Because I know this novel can be better, especially in the first-half.

Dr. William Blanchard is an environmentalist who is on a boat in Alaska doing a study on orcas. He and his team are making progress until a storm hits, requiring him to send out a distress call before his boat capsized and they are adrift at sea. Will frantically tries to find any survivors, as he himself tries to stay afloat in the freezing ocean. He finds one of his teammates and the only way to save them both is if he shifts into his wolf form.

Captain Logan Harris loves the ocean and his boat, Seawolf, even more. He is a crab fisherman and can't see himself doing anything else. A past tragedy makes him learn early that he is not meant for a happily ever after. All that changes when he answers a distress call. When he and his men answer the call, they are faced with a wolf carrying a woman on its back. He and his crew immediately bring both aboard and provide medical attention.

However, once he brings the wolf on board, he immediately recognizes the wolf as his mate. He needs to hurry and take the wolf to his living quarters before any of his crew realize that this wolf is a shifter, and further discovering that their Captain is one as well.

Logan tries to keep his distance from Will, refusing to get close to him or allow himself to feel anything for his mate. However, he can't help but comfort Will when Will finds out that he lost two of his crew, both men being very important in his life. He is grieving and needs someone to be there for him. As they grow closer, Will realizes that Logan isn't the settling down type and he wonders what kind of future the two of them can have.

This was a very well done story. I loved the budding relationship between Will and Logan. What was especially great was how Logan over time realized what he thought he couldn't have was an actual possibility once he got out of his own head. The one thing that bummed me out was the death of Will's two friends. I found myself hoping throughout the book that Will would find out that they somehow got rescued. I love m/m shifter books and this one was very entertaining. Loved it!

Will is a scientist who is conducting a study of a specific pod of orcas whales. When the storm hit them hard, he nearly drowns. However, in the end, he managed to save Tracy and he was about to surrender to the cold waters of the Bering Sea when they were rescued.
Logan is the captain of a king crab fishing vessel. He is the one nearer Will and Tracy, and the one who saved them. He is the one too to recognize what Will is and try to protect him.
The book is well-written and the characters are likeable. I like Will and Logan when they are together, how they trust each other, how they help and protect each other. However, I missed some interaction with other people. When they go to New Zealand, they don’t socialize with anybody. Logan is the Alpha of the pack but we don’t know any other member of it. That is the reason I don’t give it 5 stars.

A sweet adventure

There's nothing I love more than reading about two shifters finding their mate and finding their way to their HEA. This book brought me back to the days when I read book after book of sea captains and pirates. They weren't pregnant wolf shifters though. I love my fated mates and Logan and Will were great. I got a kick out of Will having to stay in wolf form on board Logan's ship. But it was sweet seeing Logan interact with him. And I like how the adventure shifted to New Zealand. I also liked how things didn't drag out. The story moved along at a steady pace and it was never boring. If anything, things wrapped up too quickly. But it was definitely a fun read and a cute ending!

The reason why I’m giving this book a three star is the following:

1) I could have easily changed this into a straight shifter romance story with minimal issues and without making this story any better or any worse.

2) I could have even made this a straight non-shifter romance story with few changes, again, without making the main story line an better or any worse.

3) Because of #1 and #2 reasons, why would I even make this an mpreg story unless I wanted to capitalize on readership by using an mpreg premise without making the story any better?

The character development was decent, but I had expected more from an mpreg story.

Next time, do something BIG, not just okay.

Fantastic book.

I really liked this book. It was fast paced and wonderfully written. Both Will and Logan had some tough things to get through both separate and together. My favorite part was the ending with the children on the boat watching the orcas and finding Cupid. The only part I really didn't care for was after the shipwreck it seemed like Will just waited until he was in New Zealand before he contacted people to even let them know he was alive. Overall great book. I voluntarily reviewed an advanced copy of this book.

It may be a bit unreasonable to expect realism in an mpreg romance but I found it very hard to continue reading this book due to lack of credibility. Will loses his boat and when he finally gets to shore he doesn’t have any contact with the authorities he just hops on a plane to another country with neither passport nor visa and continues with his new life. I don’t think so. This is only one of many instances of what would not actually happen in real life. Having said that, though, I finished the book so my feelings were more positive than negative.

Two intelligent men find that they need more than their singular existence, not without miscommunication and misjudgements though. This story has a powerful impact that makes you grit your teeth and fan yourself vigorously at their hot, hot chemistry and realization of their importance to each other. Just a terrific tale (haha), and baby makes it more special!

MM. Alpha/ Omega. Shifter. Will and Logan meet under extreme circumstances which are difficult enough without meeting their mate. Both try to communicate their needs and desires. It is a building of a relationship from the instant knowledge they are mates. For Logan, it is very difficult to change a life time of guarding his heart and hiding. Beautiful love story!

I really enjoyed this story because amongst the frightening moments this was a really good story about the development of a relationship and true love story develops. It’s not that you cannot love someone when you first meet that person but it’s the development of that love that gives you happily ever after. Great job guys!

Good adventure

Enjoyed reading this. I was really hoping that more of it would take place in Alaska. I didn't really care for the Alpha fight in the motel parking lot or the abduction of Lisa by the Beta. I was glad that Tracy stayed in the picture and became part of their family. Loved the epilogue!!

Good read

This was a good book. The storyline was interesting with characters that had a few deep personal issues. Logan was a good guy, but his childhood had made him into someone that ran when things got too rough. Will was intelligent and caring, but he had to learn to accept his mate for who he was and not change him. This was just a great read

Overall, I think that it was good book, I felt like it was rushed a little bit with some of the story. I am all for a happy ending though and this was amazing. What I love about Aiden Bate's books is the story is told from both POV's so you get that inner dialogue from them both.

Sweet romance

Good book, with a twist. Two shifters with careers on boats? You don’t ever see that. The romance was sweet and the book entertaining.

This was ok, but I wanted more of an explanation for some things. Will just disappears from his life after the boat accident, and starts a new one in NZ. No consequences.

Al principio del libro todo bien, el trabajo de las orcas de Will me encantó, pero una vez se comienza a construir la relación entre ellos es una paja, la forma en la que solucionan sus problemas y forman su relación es un no. Abandonado a la mitad.

This is a story of finding a mate where you never expected to which is why Logan chooses to captain the Seawolf. He has had the unfortunate circumstances where he lost his family and isolates himself from finding a mate because he does not want to go through the pain. Will is an environmentalist that is out researching a pod of Orca whales when a storm comes up where they wait too long and has to try to wait it out in the boat. Needless to say, the boat capsizes and they lose all of the crew besides Will and Tracy but in comes Logan and the Seawolf to save the day. Once they have Will safely aboard in wolf form, he and Logan quickly realize that they are fated mates and the story progresses from there.

I kind of felt like that this story moved very quickly and could have used some more development or expanding on the story in areas...I usually prefer a little more depth. For me, this book was okay...it was not my favorite and it was not the worst I have ever read. I feel like Austin and Aiden have written better books with more punch but as a first collaboration, it was good. It is still a very worthy read and has that HEA that everyone looks for in romance.
