I couldn't keep reading about a woman who had no personality, no spine, and no real drive to live her own life. Maybe, had I read a little bit longer, this would've changed. But if the beginning was any indication, I wouldn't have liked it anyway.

I’ve said it before and I will continue to say and believe it….romance is all about the journey to a happily ever after. When I initially picked up Crazy for the Best Man, I wasn't sure I was going to like it (more on that later). The journey of watching Nick St. Claire and Anna Blake grow and come into their own plus their budding romance was a thing of wonder. Yes, this story was completely predictable. But the fact that I somehow became invested in these two, made that not seem to matter at all. My biggest issue with the book actually wasn't the way or reason Anna arrived at her never met before sister’s wedding, but the fallout from the climax of the story. The Falling Action and a part of the Resolution just seemed unreal and unbelievable to me. Luckily, it didn't take away from the story. But for me it didn't push the story to a higher rating.

Anna Blake has lived her life believing that she didn't need anyone and that what people thought of her didn't matter. For her, the most hurtful part of her life has been knowing that she had a wealthy father who refused to acknowledge her existence until it was revealed in his will. Suddenly, the world knows who she is and she has a new younger half-sister pestering her to become a part of her life. Anna's life has definitely not turned out the way she would have liked. Instead of writing for The New York Times or LA Times, she's working as a gossip reporter for The Daily Rundown and her new family and future in-laws are her editor’s top 10 must have celebrities. In order to save her job, Anna has to attend her sister Janie’s wedding and uncover any and all dirty, juicy details of the attendees. Anna shows up with one goal in mind, saving her job. To do so, she must survive the week, befriend everyone, and then stab them in the back. See, none of this is making Anna one of my favorite people. However, Anna wasn't prepared for the past as much as she thought she was.

Nick seems to have had to carry the weight of the world on his shoulders from an early age. He’s part of a political dynasty. He doesn't seem to be fully jaded by his life so far, but he also doesn't seem to be truly happy. He’s sitting on information that could and will shake up the California political scene, but he has to keep it under wraps until after his younger brother gets married. Not only does Nick have to make sure the week of Dax and Janie’s wedding runs smoothly and that everything is perfect, he has to try and avoid his ex, Janie's best friend. But things for Nick get a little more complicated when Janie's new sister shows up and turns out to be his high school archenemy and the person who almost single-handedly ruined his high school student body political career. None other than Anna Blake. Nick doesn't trust that Anna is there for the right reasons and the two strike a deal. Anna will play the perfect maid of honor. She will partake in all of the nauseating activities Janie has planned and put on a happy face while doing so. And she will make sure her sister has a fairy tale wedding. In return, Nick will give her an exclusive interview including what’s next for him.

As the two play at playing nice, they discover that their high school animosity was merely hiding their feelings for each other. As the two navigate the pre-wedding events, they find themselves falling in love. Unfortunately, someone isn’t happy with this turn of events and will do whatever it takes to use their insecurities against them.

Crazy for the Best Man was a fun story with really good characters. While it may be a little predictable, it did leave me with a smile on my face.

Anna Blake has dreams to write for the LA Times, but is currently working has a reporter of a "rag, tabloid" newspaper. Anna has a knack for uncovering the dirt on the rich and famous. When she turns out to be the "lost" sister to the bride who's having biggest wedding of the century, she's told she has to go to get the scoop or lose her job. Reluctantly, Anna accepts her sister's invite to be in her wedding.

Nick St. Claire, up and coming politician, hardly recognizes Anna. Anna was hoping to avoiding Nick, but knew it wasn't likely. Nick and Anna attended the same high school, but ran in completely different circles. While running for Senior President, Anna ran a story that put the win in jeopardy. Anna hadn't verified her facts, so she was treated terribly due to her reporting error. Nick's mom even tried to get her expelled from school. So meeting him again after all these years, brought up bad memories. Nick, based on her past, had his eye on her as he didn't believe she was there to support and get to know her sister.

After getting Anna to confess her true intentions, Nick and Anna made a deal. He agreed to give her a story that would please her boss, but only if Anna really tries to be there for Janie and get to know her. As Nick slowly gives Anna pieces for her story, he comes to realize he truly likes Anna as a person. While Nick grew up in a family unit, his parents didn't love each other. They were more interested in how powerful they could become. Anna's mom chose to leave her mostly to care for herself. She had a sister and an Aunt who wanted to know her, but her mom hadn't allowed it. Anna only wanted to be loved and "picked" first.....Although her initial intentions were to dish the dirt on the "family", that's not what occurs once her heart is involved.

This was a lighthearted read with a fairytale ending! It goes to show you should never judge a book by it's cover and that some people really do change, grow up. Ashlee Mallory has all the "feels" in this wonderfully written novel. I read a gifted copy and all opinions stated are my own.

This feels weird. I'm actually writing a review that will NOT appear on the blog. But if you know anything about me, I fell in love with Ms. Mallory's writing with the Sorensen series. Trust me, if you liked anything about that series, you will love this series, too. I've already one clicked Crazy for the Boss because I just HAVE to know about Quinn and James.

Anita and Nick are old high school adversaries that have definitely spilled over into adulthood. I loved how Ms. Mallory lets us know about it and how it has affected them and how other people have dealt with it, too. In fact, I'm just going to say that I can.not stand Mrs. St. Claire. In fact, I don't think she really got her comeuppance that I really wanted. However, I loved the scenes with her, Nick and Dax, the groom/Nick's brother.

Speaking of which, Janie and Dax were great characters. The added the necessary drama near the end of the book that Nick needed to realize his feelings for Anita. Plus, there is Susan that in my opinion should have been slapped, on the face, by Janie but...oh yes, there is so much drama going on between Dax, Janie, Susan (another bridesmaid) and Nick. Great subplot but I still would have slapped her. Hard.

Anita and her job are also for front in the book. Ms. Mallory does an excellent job of wrapping up that part of the book fairly quickly between Janie and Nick but the kicker at the end? I NEVER saw that one coming and its a good one.

I didn't read the other version of the book so I'm not sure of the heat content but with this sweet version, you don't need the heat. Sometimes sex just messes up the whole story.

Overall, I loved this enemy to lovers story. Not to mention the family issues that are built in and some that are new. Lenore...that all I'm going to say because you just have to read the book.

Another good story in a fun series

Ironically, I don't tend to like reporter or politician stories much, but I really enjoyed this one. I probably wouldn't have read it if I hadn't liked the 1st book of the series so much. I was a bit worried initially because Anna starts out intending to use her new connection to save her job, but the author didn't follow the usual tropes for her story & there was nothing cringey or overly contrived.

Both Anna & Nick aren't all that likeable at the beginning, but once you learn their motivations, it's easy to sympathize. The moments they each realize they're in love seems a little too early but reasonable enough for the reader to roll with it. The denouement is a little too reminiscent of the 1st story, but not jarring. Love the developing friend-family & can't wait to read Tessa's happily-ever-after next

Clean romance level: passionate kissing, secular attitudes on sex outside of marriage and the main characters have sex but no graphic details are given (with thanks to the author for keeping it romantic instead of devolving into porn).
Some mild swear words and a few unfortunate instances of taking the Lord's Name in vain (though none with swearing, fwiw)

This story was a great follow-up to Crazy for the Boss. While not necessary I do recommend reading them in order to add to the story.

I thought that Anna and Nick were fun and their dialogue together was cute, but I was a little disappointed with their character backstory; a stereotypical journalist that ignores personal boundaries and a stereotypical political family riddled with infidelity and lies. While their backstories were often mentioned, I do think they were easy to ignore while reading.

I do however appreciate the leading lady being the character not looking for commitment. It’s a storyline I think that isn’t nearly used enough in clean romance.

I look forward to reading Tessa’s story and have it downloaded ready to go.

🤓 Final thoughts: Cute follow-up to book one.
🧼 Cleanliness: mild language, mild alcohol, steamy kisses with main character closed door romance

The first series I read from Ashlee Mallory was The Sorensen Family set, though I discovered these books first on the mobile app Chapters, and later invested in and read all of her books as well.

I really enjoyed getting to know the characters in these books, and shared their emotional hills and valleys as each story and series progresses. I appreciated the fact that this author is excellent at writing romances based out the oddest circumstances imaginable, and also managed to catch my breath with each chapter of her suspense novel as well.

If you are interested in romance, humor, or even suspense, you should definitely check out Ashlee's books. I'd recommend her books for anyone that enjoys a good story with memorable characters you will find yourself falling in love with.

A cute book about falling in love. Anna Blake is an entertainment reporter and her job depends on writing a story about her "family" which she has known about but never been part of since her father was a very wealthy man who had an affair with her mother. She has now inherited money and is giving it away but her new sister wants her to be part of her wedding and her boss makes her be part of it to keep her job. When she becomes part of the bridal party she finds that her old nemisis from high school Nick is also part of the party. The begin arguing all the time but as time goes on they have to get along for the bridal party and then sparks fly.

Anna and Nick have known each other since high school...and neither one likes the other very much. When they find themselves in the same wedding, sparks fly. The fact that Anna is attending the wedding only to get a big scoop for her newspaper and Nick has a big story to hide makes the situation even more interesting. Oh and that they can't stop thinking about each other? And share an out of this world kiss?

I loved this story so much! It was fun and sexy and I cried a few tears too. I can't wait for more in this series!!

A cute emotional story.

Anna and Nick knew each other when they were younger but they were opposites. His brother is marrying a lady named Janie. It turns out Janie is Anna's unknown sister. They arrive for the wedding week and the adventures begin. Both have changed from their younger days. This story is a cute love story with the wedding adventures and a lot of emotions. Anna's roommates are crazy. Nick's mom is a typical mom of a rich political son. She tries to lead him away. Love the ups and downs in this cute love story.

I loved Anna and Nick's story. I liked their history and how they fight their attraction. It was sweet and wholesome and very well written. Overall a great second chance romance. The characters are strong, well written, developed and likable. The plot was entertaining and well written. I can't wait to read the next in the series. I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy of this book.

Anna is back in town for her sisters wedding. She is a reporter needing a BIG scoop to help her in her job and she runs into Nick, who is the Best man who is running for the Senate. Will Anna interfere this time?

They now both have to work together for the wedding. The closeness they become is sweet and fun.

Ashlee Mallory did it again, I loved it!

Okay

I don't know if it's just because I had such a connection to a previously read book, or if I just am not in the mood for a novel such as this one- but I did not feel the pull to this novel that I normally do when I am reading a new novel. I will definitely have to try again later.

"She also had a way of smiling at him, her eyes sparkling, her head tilted just so, that had his complete attention. Then there was the way the olive color of that short tank-style dress complemented her honey hair and sun-kissed and hugged her curves and showed off her great legs. She was the full package."

Best Man

This was "A Sweet Romantic Comedy" . Enjoyed the book and the series. It is a delight to read books where the characters act their age and handle situations like adults.

Saddest quote: “What do you want, Anna?” he asked calmly. She stopped, her eyes wild as they settled on him, and she seemed to catch her breath. “I just want to be someone’s first choice for once. "

Fun Read

Fun stories around a group of friends and the romance they happen upon. The second book was pretty good, almost worth of 5 stars. I think because of it's predictability, it's not quite there, but close and definitely worth my time.

Maybe 2 1/2 ⭐️ . The characters changed their opinion of each other a little too quickly I thought, so the relationship seemed a bit shallow and based on sex to me.

This book reads a lot like a typical Hallmark movie with a Disney villain.

And, FYI, there is a sleepover involved. No details.
