“No one is going to help you, if you won’t help yourself.”
Stephen finally has a job he likes at a quiet little bakery in a sweet, small town, and he’s working hard to prove himself to his ex-wife and his daughter. But every time things get tough, he seeks comfort at the bottom of the bottle.
Then he meets his handsome new coworker Rowan . . . who won’t give him an inch. Rowan’s family built the bakery from scratch, and there’s no way he’s going to let Stephen’s irresponsibility ruin what they have.
The pressure builds as Stephen struggles to overcome his shortcomings while coming to terms with something new – he’s drawn to Rowan, and he’s never before been attracted to a man.

*** Roman's hometown is Oriole, a nice small town where the family has it's busy bakery shop. When his Uncle breaks a leg, he goes to help out. He takes a months off from his animation job in the city. * Stephen, 40s, tattooed, works at the bakery, but he's been showing up for work with a hangover most days. He's divorced with a daughter, 20, in college. He does all he can to pay for her education.
Roman, mid thirties, is furious at first with alcohol laden Stephen, but his cousin, Jen, fills him in on Stephen. Stephen does a great job, is great with people, and has been there 4 years. So, Roman decides to have compassion and help the struggling Stephen. In doing that, Roman is brutally honest. It helps.
Their friendship grows into hanging out, dinners, baking and flirting. This will be all first times with a man for Stephen, as he acts on his feelings for the first time. First sexy times that are thrilling, and he wants more. This beautifully written story will hold your attention. The characters are lively. I loved Jen and Rowan's city friend, Lina. Great tale, hot romance, and a fantastic epilogue. ENJOY ! ======
This is the eleventh book I’ve read by Mr. Styles and I’m so impressed with his body of work. All the ratings I’ve given have been four or five stars and he’s earned each one! This selection is no exception.
Rowan, a computer animator, is called back home to help in the bakery his aunt and uncle own. He grew up in their home with his cousin, Jen, and is needed since his uncle broke his leg.
Stephen is a divorced man with a daughter in college and an ex-wife who still cares enough about him to stay involved in his life. Unfortunately this may be detrimental to his ability to move forward.
Since Stephen works at the bakery with Jen, Rowan doesn’t have a choice to get along with a man he doesn’t feel he can respect.
Fortunately, both Stephen and Rowan need to keep the bakery running, while they work through their personal problems with each other. Needless to say, some flour flies as well as some apologies, before they’re able to open themselves up to more than just a working relationship.
A wonderful story with lots of laughs, love and plenty of carbs to drool over!
This was an extremely good book that takes through an alcoholics ups and downs while trying to maintain a job and starting a new relationship. Stephen is divorced and not dealing with it well. Always worried he will lose the love of his college age daughter, he thinks about quitting drinking, but can never seem to make it. He runs to the bottle whenever something doesn't go well for him and he has a low self-esteem. Rowan gets called to help his sister run their family bakery after his uncle breaks his leg. He has a great job eight hours away, but manages to get time off to help out. Seeing Stephen come in with a hangover gives him an opinion of the man he finds it hard to shake. After awhile he sees the sweetness underneath the scruff. Attractions sets in and they now have to work together to mend Stephen's life and Rowan's own insecurities. Just an excellent story that I would recommend that anyone read. I voluntarily read and reviewed this ARC book.
A tale of how we can find love in the most unexpected places, as long as we are willing to take the risk and own our own mistakes, this is such a heart-warming read...
The characters are alluring and very easy to love. And Stephen seems so sad and lonely at the beginning, and he's such a wonderful person... you want him to be happy. Rowan appears to be his polar opposite, and yet...
You'll find yourself unable to stop reading, the story flows easily and compellingly; Peter Styles' writing is, as always, wonderful. A very recommended read.
I voluntarily reviewed an advanced copy of this book.
I read and reviewed an Advanced Reader Copy of this book. I have to say that Peter Styles is one of my all time favorite authors. I love the way he weaves a story together and gets you emotionally invested in his characters. I was lucky enough to read the other book that Rowan plays a small part in and it was amazing to be able to read his story. His characters are so realistic that as you read you can see them and not feel that this is a total fantasy read. Stephen was dealing with problems that you could identify with and also feel sympathy for Rowan and his apprehension that Stephen would fall off the wagon again. This is one of my favorite reads.
A New Beginning by Peter Styles This is Stephen and Rowan’s story.
Stephen and Rowan’s journey to find true love was not an easy one. This story showed that we all need someone to believe in us. Also, we as individuals are responsible for our life choices whether good or bad. Stephen and Rowan were perfect for each other even though it took them awhile to see this.
FYI, contains mature content. This is a MM romance. I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
I was super excited to read Rowans story after reading the first book. I liked his aloofness. I enjoyed Stephen and Rowan and thought they were cute together, especially the scenes of them working together at the bakery! I will say that I felt like the book was a little jumpy during certain parts and some interactions seemed a little pushed to me. However, overall I enjoyed this book! Hopefully we get another one with Damian or even Dean maybe?? :)
MM. Rowan is quiet and not good in social situations. Stephen is a social butterfly but stuck in a self destructive routine. Both men are older and makes the story a set-up for a beautiful second chance for both of them. A quick, intense read. I voluntarily reviewed a copy of this book.
Rowan and Stephen meet for the first time and it's explosive and not in a good way. Once they take a step back and Lok at the situation and get to know each other things change for the better. It really gets explosive.
Low 3 stars. The way this was written made it seem like there was something between the reader and the main characters. A little distant, which made it a little hard to connect. We really don't learn much about these characters.
It took me half the book to even feel any chemistry between Stephen and Rowan. It turns to a sweet romance, but nothing sizzling here. A hurt-comfort type of romance.
