This is the first novel I have read in a series focusing on Detective Renee Ballard. The 'late show' refers to the night shift in the LAPD. This is the third Michael Connelly novel I have read in the past few weeks (I go through them quickly) and like the others it is very realistic, and utterly captivating.
Strong, credible, police procedural as expected from this author but with a rebellious, female, paddle boarding detective fiercely succeeding in a man's world.
As a big fan of Michael Connelly, I'm never disappointed. Renee is a great character, and it's an interesting angle from a female police office perspective, but don't get me wrong, there's bite and excitement. LOVE IT when her and Bosch get together to work as a team - excellent book.
Detective Renee is put on the late night shift. but she still gets in the middle 0 of a multi murder plus another brass knuckles beating. Both of which she is suppose to stay away. She gets kidnapped and almost beaten before she kills the guy. Then still after the muti murder she finds evidence that may incriminate a cop.
