"Bitch help you all when I wake up..."

The dark druids don’t know just how royally they just messed up as Arryn's eyes lost focus and her body collapsed to the ground.

Now that the fight in Arcadia is over, the dark druids must be dealt with. They have become ruthless and will stop at nothing to win their Chieftain the Dark Forest.

Arryn must get herself out of the hardest situation she has yet to face—too bad she’s been poisoned to inhibit all magic use.

With Arryn’s life on the line and swords literally rising over the necks of the ones she loves most, the countdown begins.

Someone must pay for this…

Unfortunately for them, the dark druids haven’t realized the incredible power that stems from pure rage—especially from someone they greatly underestimated.

That everyone underestimated.

OK, so this is the hero's journey of Arryn a feisty magic-user, druid. If you have ever read any sword and sorcery fantasy work, the tropes are pretty standard, and the author sometimes takes a paint by the numbers approach. Arryn has been trained by druids, but she also has innate abilities that she is learning to tap into in order to augment her powers.

Over the course of several books, Arryn has been targeted, beaten down, abducted, lost loved ones to the opposing forces which seem insurmountable, but she has personal resources of friendship that multiply their numbers exponentially because they love Arryn, despite the main character not always behaving in a way deserving of such affection. So, this book devolves into an angry hulk-type situation.

Also, Arryn finds an orphan that reminds her of herself when she was an Arcadian refugee. Trying to teach Corrine some fighting skills was reminiscent of every single one of my students who wanted mastery of the skill without the tedium of repetition. The story continues to be good despite the fact that most fantasy readers have seen this before.

This was a show stopper!

Not only did Arryn take on the care of Corrine, the young Dark Druid, who was anything but dark, and who had escaped from the people who had raised her with contempt, and blows, but she now has the job of finding out if it were true, that her father was still alive, though captured, and kept semi-sane with the poisons given to him.

How Arryn tries to find her father, is a story all by itself, and I was so gripped by its telling that, once again, I sat through the night, reading!

I'm now far too tired to start another book but, fortunately for my reading list, it tells me that I can go on to the next book of this series which, once I've had a few hours sleep, I'm determined to find out what happens next!

As usual, I read the Author's notes after this book, and Candy asks another question for her readers to answer. She asked what talents/dreams do our children have, and do we have anything special we do to push them?

I only had the one child, who has been fiercely independent from birth. She has never fitted in to any box that her peers did, and always had to do things her own way, even if it were the most difficult way.

We always encouraged her to find out what she was most passionate about, and to follow her dreams, and she has done this her entire adult life. She has itchy feet, and so she has traveled all over the world, working at Festivals, as a Fire Performer - she even did a gig at Burning Man!

She still loves her shows, and delights in coming up with fierce stories to tell, using the fire that she loves so much, to tell others her stories, but she also does a lot of stage managing for other performers, too, so has the best of both worlds.

She and her partner are in the middle of converting a Horse Box, into a moving home, so they can travel all over the UK, playing at the Festival's that are just getting back into the swing of things, after the last two years of lockdown.

I've never had to push my girl into doing what she has always dreamed of, but I've always been there as a constant in her, very peripatetic, life - encouraging her from the sidelines, to follow her dreams, no matter how many naysayers there might be.

It's very much a privilege, as a parent, to be able to support my girl in living her dreams so thoroughly!

check before irritating

don't make Arryn angry. she's been sent to the frozen north by a crazed mystic, had her city torn down, her home damaged and acquaintances killed by dark druids and she has now been poisoned and kidnapped. and she is pissed. not a good sign for the druids who hold her captive. she has one thing they don't have. friends. lots of friends. and a really angry tiger.

what fun. just loving this. watching her teach Corrine reminds me of teaching preschool-they were sponges just like Corrine. I miss those days. (I miss being a kid myself, especially if i could have had the fun the druids have)

Enjoyable

This was a rather enjoyable story and nice to see a few loose ends tied up or whip up in a whirlwind lol. And I remember a joke about a guy speeding. The officer stops the guy and asks him why he was speeding. The guy responds with I am trying to keep up with traffic. The officer looks around then back at the guy there is no one around you. The guy says see that's how behind I am 😎

Candy Crum is definitely good!

I have enjoyed her books immensely compared to the flimsy offshoots of the KG series. This was a short but pleasurable read that I can recommend for Kendall unlimited readers. The characters are either likable word despicable and the action is very consistent. This book actually had a beginning middle and end which is nice since so many of these pulp fiction Fantasies do not.

WOW!

I have been a fairly avid reader for most of my 7 decades of life; BUT, there has not been ANY series that has so completely grabbed me, and kept me TOTALLY enthralled as the Kurtherian Gambit family of Series. All of the Authors who have joined with Michael, have brought worlds of Fantastic adventures that keep on playing in my mind. Thank You All for providing me with Many-Many hours of mind bogalling enjoyment.

Here we go again !!!

Yes!! I loved it!! I very seldom write reviews but have recently done five, including this one! At the start of this story I felt the tone of the story felt a little different than the others but the feeling soon went away as it settled in. I loved the introduction of the twins (traveling mystics visiting lol) and really enjoyed Corrines budding development!! Already downloaded number 6!! Great job Candy!!!

Arryn's father is being held captive by the dark druids. The leader of the dark druids has headed east to his brother to get reinforcements for the coming attack against the Dark Forest.
One of their first offensives is to send a poison gas to affect all of the Dark Forest druids. In the confusion they plan to snatch Arryn. Of course having her captive and keeping her are 2 different things.
Well written, story flows very nicely.

Absolutely freaking amazing!!

I am totally in love with this series and can't wait to see where the next arc takes us. I have a white tiger totem, including one tattooed on my arm, so did the happy dance when you brought Snow into the storyline.

You are a great author, Candy, and I can't wait to read more of your work.

Love it!

I totally loved this book!!!!!! All these exclamation marks are for Candy Crum, the author, who says in her authors notes that her fellow writers give e her a hard time because she has a penchant for exclamation marks in her authors notes. I love her excitement!!!!!! I love the way she brings her characters to life!!!!! Can't wait to read the next one!!!!!!

Such Powerful Women!

This has been a wonderful romp through the eyes, hands, and hearts of our female protagonists. Strong, capable, beautiful, and terrifyingly deadly. What a great combo!

What am I encouraging in the young ones in our family? Magic. Nature. Wonder. Love. The delightful dance with the Divine in all It's Forms. Nothing is more important.

Awesome

Why does it always happen that when I'm outside on my patio at 2am, I always end up laughing very loudly at something the Fiesta druid says or does. My neighbor always text me during the day and says ok what happened this time. Me being the kind and loving neighbor I am, just tells her to read the book and find out. Awesome book

Series is getting better.

The fifth book was a page turner. I hope the last book in the series is as good or better then the fifth book.

Another one bites the dust

I am loving these books and very much like the way the baddies get theirs in the end. I also like the way the characters are maturing and the way they interact with each other. I am now off to read the next in the series. Cannot wait to see how it goes.

I love the main character - she is so fun and easy to like. Plenty of others interesting characters, and lots of room for side plots. Read it all the way though, very emotional. I can't wait for the next book!
