Come home to Rivers End and discover the ghosts of Christmases past…
When Selina Peterman arrives in Rivers End one stormy night, it’s disorienting enough to discover she’s inherited a house. But when she learns that the house is filled to the rafters with junk—and uncomfortable family secrets—all she wants is to clean it, sell it, and get the heck out. No problem, except that she’s about to meet the biggest complication of all: the gorgeous caretaker who’s living there.
Connor O’Donnell knows he shouldn’t get involved with the sexy granddaughter of the man he’d looked up to for so long. He’s not sure he’s even ready for a relationship, and getting involved with someone he knows isn’t going to stick around is risky—if not outright stupid. But with the snow falling outside and Christmas on the way, it’s all too easy for the two of them to stay inside and play house. It’s only for a few days, right?

Hey neighbour! I’m a lifelong fan of stories where everyone gets their happily-ever-after and have been a voracious reader of everything romance since I was tall enough to reach my mom’s bookshelf. I write small town romance with plenty of heart, humour and a dash of heat. Sometimes with a dash of magic, mystery or suspense.
This little novella of 16 Chapters and a fast read, was wonderful!! It's a cute and sweet romance with a little bit of education in it. The book talks about alcoholism and recovery of alcohol. Books like this needs to be read by teens and tweens. Reason being it's the age of peer pressure of drugs and alcohol. I know about peer press of drugs and alcohol. I have experienced it and it was awful. Right now I have been in recovery for 15 years. On Christmas day it will be 16 years. It's great not drinking because you have to think and everything in your every day life. It's WONDERFUL not drinking!!
Honesty is my way to go when it comes to reviews and, I have to admit that what drew me to this book was not the cover but the blurb. I was not expecting how beautiful the story was and, how incredibly well CJ Hunt could share the message of love in this book.
Selena is an organizer, she can't stand when things are not in their right place and she also loves to make lists. When she is called to her father hometown by a lawyer that insist on seeing her in person, she is curious. More so when her parents stop answering her calls and go into "radio silence", sort of speak. What she finds in Rivers End makes her mad, angry, sad, heartbroken and determined. All at the same time, so it's confusing. Not only that but she may have found love too, in the least expected place and with the least expected person.
Before I go into Connor, as a character, let me add that I really despise Selena's father. I understand the man for the way he acted and things but I do not agree. Also, the last thing he did before just leaving his daughter alone, AGAIN, was just uncalled for and mean.
Connor is a teacher and he loves being around his high school students, but he likes children of all ages too. He is living in old George's place because he took care of the man until the day he died. Now he was waiting for the family of said man to come pick up his stuff. It's not necessary to mention that there was a situation going on in the communication department between George and his family, but that's for the book to explain *smile*
This book was plain beautiful. I loved the first meeting between Selena and Connor. How things developed a pretty steady pace and didn't felt forced. It actually made me forget that this was taking place in a short-iss amount of time for the characters. When an author can do that to me, I have to mention it because it speaks of how good they are in taking the reader out of the real world and into the story.
The writing was well done. The vocabulary was simple and very straight forward. Also the characters were compelling and realistic, in some ways, which made them relatable to a point. I also think that it was well pace and ended in a very satisfying way. At least in my opinion.
I would love to recommend this book, specially during the holidays. It's a beautiful romance with sexy times included but the main plot is the romance.

Snow Globes and the Honesty Zone (an audio review)
What a great time to return to Rivers End. I’m not a huge fan of Christmas but this story put me in a festive mood. I can relate to Selena. She’s a professional organizer – as in she does that for a living. Okay, that part I can’t relate to. I can relate to finding a huge mess and the daunting task of sorting through it. Selena inherited this house quite suddenly and she finds herself facing the biggest disaster she’s ever seen, all while coping with some hard truths including the fact people in her life whom she’s trusted have lied to her.
Meeting Connor was definitely not on Selena’s list. And the woman is an ardent list maker. Connor has been taking care of Selena’s grandfather in his last few years and is grieving that death. Faced with losing the only home he’s known for years, he’s at a loss. Throw in a gorgeous vital woman and that loss is amplified. He hadn’t planned on getting involved. No, he’s still battling his own demons. But Christmas has a way of making everything clear.
Selena is hell-bent on leaving Rivers End. She has a business and career awaiting her. Yes, she can take some time off to settle her grandfather’s estate, but she has a life to get back to. Right? As Rivers End does its magic, Selena finds herself longing for things she’s never had. That might even include Connor. But Connor hasn’t been completely forthcoming either and Selena is feeling like there’s no one she can trust. I wondered if they would get their happy ending.
Also, I just want to say that I love the symbolism of the snow globes. Those have always been a favorite of mine.
I love these novellas. A lovely story in a manageable bite. A palette cleanser from some of the longer and more involved stories I tackle. There’s something about a sweet romance that calls to me. Brandolin Barrett narrated this story and I think she did a great job. She handled Serena, Connor, as well as a host of other characters and even a couple of young adults. So, yeah, job well done. Another book I can recommend.
This was a short, sweet, sexy, small town Christmas read.
Selina and Connor had a serious case of instalust/instalove. I liked both of their characters. I actually liked all the characters in the book with the exception of Selina's father. I liked the small town atmosphere and charm. I thought the storyline was intiguing. It also ended with an HEA. The pace of the book was seriously quick. I finished it in one sitting.
What I didn't like was that it felt rushed and unfinished. The book gives the barest bones about pretty much everything. Selina and her parents occupation. Connor's life before coming to River's End. How did his brothers end up in the town? What was behind the conversation with Connor and Selina's father? It sounded like Selina's father did not tell Selina the complete truth about her grandfather.
There were a number of other questions I had, but I can't mention them here without having to post a spoiler alert. I enjoyed the book, but there were so many holes and unanswered questions for me, that it felt a bit lacking. I would rather have the detail than the race to the finish.
Sometimes I think it's not worth having some information in a book if you aren't provided enough detail to make it worthwhile. Secrecy and honesty are focused on in this book. some of the secrecy was explained away in a couple of sentences. It wasn't enough for me. An epilogue would have been a nice addition, but maybe epilogue don't work with short stories.
I would give this book 3.5 stars. I voluntarily read and reviewed this book received from Hidden Gems.
The List will leave you with a warm Christmas glow! When Selina arrived in Rivers End on Vancouver Island (love it), she never guessed that her world would turn upside down. After all, she was an expert on organization and efficiency, but she was in for a series of big surprises. I don't want to spoil the plot, but the story is all about family and regrets and mysteries, all set in a small town at Christmas. What could be better? Selina soon found herself with more friends than she had in impersonal Vancouver and she became wrapped up in the charm and warmth of a small town Christmas. I loved the humor in the book too, especially the scene where she first meets Connor her - well - new housemate in a house she didn't know she owned and there was a lot of green and a funny dress. You will have to read it on your own. The story is also about serious subjects like recovering alcoholics and honesty, again good topics at Christmas when you life seems to flash before you. And love. The book will leave you with warm fuzzy feelings and love all through the holidays. I volunteered to review a copy of the book and this is my review.
received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review. Selena grew up an only child who spent most of her life at boarding school since both parents were too busy with their careers. She thought they were her only family until a grandfather she never knew died and left her his estate. She decided to visit Rivers End, deal with anything that needed and return to spend Christmas with her best friend from school. Things became complicated when she visited the grandfather's house and met with Connor who lived there as well. Connor was like no one she had met before, he was kind, funny and full of life and loved living in Rivers End. Sparks flew between them and she a different life from the one she had planned, a life with friends, family and a home with someone who loved her. I loved reading this story, the depth of love and compassion the characters portrayed made it an endearing love story.

I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review. C.J. Hunt has given the reader a gentle romance here with family secrets, a young woman called Selina who inherited the house but just wants to clean and sell it then leave to go back to the city and then there is the caretaker called Connor who is wary of getting into a relationship with his sexy deceased employer's granddaughter. But, due to bad weather, they are stuck together and as long as emotions get involved surely it will be alright? But that's the thing about life, emotions do get involved and lust can turn into love given the chance. Selina had thought that her grandfather had died years ago so she wants to know why her father let her believe that plus what secrets does Connor have? He's just a school teacher. Why would her father say anything different when he turns up? The passion between Selina and Connor, is it just a fleeting fancy or the love that will grow and flourish if given the chance? To find out, and I strongly recommend that you do, you need to get yourself a copy of this book and enjoy the discovery like I did. DEFINITELY RECOMMENDED
The List is such a sweet romance book! I really enjoyed it. I'm falling in love with all of CJ Hunt's books. I particularly love how all of the Rivers End series ties together somewhat. It's really great to go from one book to another, keeping the same familiar town and feel, even when the characters are all different.
The characters are well rounded and well thought out. The storyline is sweet and kept me interested throughout the whole book, I couldn't stop reading it! It's a short read, but I really like that since I can't ever seem to put a good book down. I know there are several books and will be several more that all tie into Rivers End, so I didn't feel so sad to finish the book, like I do with most books that are so great that I don't want them to end!
The List is really a great read if you like romance with just a hint of heat. I enjoyed it SO much! I just can't get enough Rivers End! I one hundred percent recommend this book!

This story is so full of Christmas spirit. It is the perfect companion for a kind and happy moment, bring up the hot chocolate and mini marshmallows and it will be like a date with wonderful people. Selina is lost, she just discovered her famously lied to her, hiding the fact she has a grandfather and she is his unique successor. Her trip to Rivers End will be more an introspection and a new road for her own life than what she expected. Connors was a kind of Selina’s grandfather housemate, he came to live with him when he needed the most of help. He is totally what I not expected but he is an awesome man, always ready to help, kind and compassionate. Between the two, it is instant chemistry, but misunderstandings tear them nearly appart. If you want to see how they will handle truth, life’s choices and changes, stop by now and sit to enter a wonderful Christmas story. I received a free copy of this book, and i’m giving my true and honest opinion. I give this story a 4.5 stars rate

Holy moly! This was a short, steamy story that definitely delivered on all fronts. This is the second book of CJ Hunt’s that I’ve read & I must say, I loved them both. The stories were well developed along with a cast of characters that are life-like.
Selina & Connor are brought together after the death of her Grandfather. Selina inherites her estranged Grandfather’s estate & a tenant, Connor, who is the high school English teacher. They end up working together, sorting through her Grandfather’s belongings. The more time they spend together, the greater the chemistry. Can they change & move on from their pasts? Each has their own secrets but when they’re revealed, can they find their “HEA”? Be sure to “one-click” this wonderful Christmas story, you will not regret it! As for me, I look forward to reading more of the stories from the town of River’s End.

What I liked about Connor was his heart. He is such a special person who helps those in need. I like that he rented a room from Selina's grandpa because he needed help. I like that he is a teacher and that he really cares. I like that he stayed to help whomever from Selina's family showed up to inherit the home. I like that Connor naturally falls in love. What I like about Selina is that she seems to be so overwhelmed by learning about her grandfather in such an unpleasant and out of the blue way, but she trudges on and makes the proverbial lemonade from the lemons she is served. A good strong story with a character all its own. This book is a solid and strong 4 1/2 Stars.

I fell into The List so easily that I was halfway through before I looked up. It put me in the right spirit for Christmas and the delight of ongoing traditions. CJ Hunt is new to me and judging from this story I would happily read more of her work. Her way of writing is very clear and uncomplicated which is a special and deceptively difficult skill I wish more authors would aspire to!
In addition to being a feel-good story, Hunt addresses different types of prejudice and forgiveness in a way that doesn’t weigh down the romance but touches on them just enough to add depth and deliver some thought-provoking ideas.

This book was a delight to read and the characters were wonderful, the sort of people you would want to get to know better. The List was full of surprises, not predictable at all, and had a gentle humour that at times turned into laugh out loud moments. I thoroughly recommend this book, The List is a really lovely book and a wonderful introduction to the O'Donnells. I cannot wait to read the next one.

Selina goes to settle the affairs of a grandfather that she didn't know was even alive. He has left her everything which is interesting since she thought he was dead. While trying to handle his affairs she meets Connor and suddenly finds her quick visit is not going to be quite so quick.
This story was cute even in its predictable moments. If I have friends looking for a quick read I would put this one on the list, not at the top but it would be there.

I have to admit, I'm an avid reader of Christmas romances. "The List" is one of the best of its kind I've read recently. It's not just a romance. There's humor, misunderstandings, instant attraction, secrets waiting to be revealed and a mystery concerning snow globes and unopened letters.
A well written story, with great character development. If you like holiday romances, this is the book for you.

Oh my gosh! This story is just so cute and so much fun. I spent pretty much the whole book giggling. But along with all the giggles, there’s a heaping dose of family drama and angst. I thoroughly enjoyed getting to know driven Type-A Selina and the more laid-back Connor (and all his ‘secrets’). I loved the way this story ends and now I’m more interested than ever in reading more about the O’Donnell siblings I received a complimentary copy of this book through Hidden Gems Books.
