It's nearing the end of the Viking Age.    Young Thron and Garad dream of the day their fathers take them viking. They love the tales of excitement, glory, and adventure. They can't wait to sail south, slay enemies, and reap vast rewards of gold and treasure.    Then both boys go on their first viking expedition and discover ... their dads have been lying to everyone.   Fathers only tell their sons the stories they want their mothers to hear. In reality, vikings are brutal voyages of savage assaults against well-defended foes. After two centuries of raids, their enemies know who they are, why they're there, when they're coming, and often await in ambush armed and ready.   Fewer dragonships are sailing every year as the raids have become dangerous and less profitable. Most boys who sail south don't survive their first viking. Yet no village boy is considered a man until they viking and kill their first enemy. For their honor, they must sail, but will Thron and Garad survive their adventure?
