Murder always ruins the best baked plans . . . Annie Hunter has a lot on her plate just before Christmas, but it’s not all sugar and spice and everything nice! With an open house at her aunt’s new Blackbird Bed and Breakfast, all Annie hopes for is a drama-free day. Of course, events never go as planned. On top of preparing a whirlwind of food, holiday decorating, and keeping to a tight schedule, a surprise visitor is also on the menu. When that visitor turns up dead, Annie must search for the killer to keep everything from crumbling like a stale Christmas cookie. Annie’s plan to flush out the murderer includes one tasty bribe, a pinch of needling, and a heaping tablespoon of accusation. When she is threatened, it’s time to put it all on the back burner. But the killer has other ideas. While the snowflakes fly, Annie finds herself caught between a cookie and a crazy person. This time, it looks like she bit off more than she can chew. ***Merry Buried Christmas is volume 12 in the Black Cat Cafe Cozy Mystery Series. Lyndsey’s books can be read and enjoyed in any order.
This Christmas cozy mystery is #12 in this series, which might be the reason that I just couldn’t really attach to the characters: maybe I was already supposed to know them?
Annie and her aunt, Leona, run the Black Cat Cafe—even though it seems like they never work b:c they are solving this mystery. Leona invites her fiancé’s, Danny’s, estranged mother to the grand opening of the Blackbird Inn Bed & Breakfast, but Danny’s Mom steals from most of the businesses on Main Street and ends up murdered. Various townsfolk have long histories with the victim, so there are lots of suspects. The stereotypical, small-town, female cop is represented. Will Annie solve the murder before the cop, before Leona’s Christmas Eve wedding, or before Annie gets killed by the actual murderer?
I gave it three stars b/c I had not figured out the murderer until we were told. Otherwise, only an average cozy.
A new venture and a wedding should mean everything is happy and joyous, especially in the run up to Christmas - but this time it is not to be!
Annie Hunter's aunt Leona is getting married Christmas eve and she and her fiance Danny are opening the Blackbird B & B as a joint venture - so far so good, but Leona has opened a can of worms by inviting Danny's estranged mother Heather to the festivities, but before she can explain herself Heather has managed to alienate various shop owners by being abrasive and a shop lifter! That would be bad enough but then she ends up well and truly dead and the murderer seems determined that Danny is going to take the rap for it, as the only wrapping Annie wants is Christmas and wedding gifts she starts to look into what is going on - only to find herself waist deep in trouble!
I'm having a hard time choosing MY FAVORITE character, so I think it will have to be RICH ! She is a best friend, great guarddog, , loves every one EXCEPT it they wanting to harm ANNIE. LEONA does make me crazy with being such a NARCISSIST. HOWEVER I DO LOVE THESE CHARACTERS , STORIES, AND LOCATIONS. ESPECIALLY TODAY WHEN IT IS 118* HERE. THIS WEEK. CAROL VANATTA jucva46@gmail.com
This is a great cozy for a cold winters snuggle up and read. Annie is faced with helping her aunt find out who killed her future husband's mother. There is a lot if mystery surrounding the murder. Annie and her friends try to solve it while trying to get through the busiest time if the year.
I love all the characters and the plots are well designed. My only minor complaint is the detective still complaining about the main character. Really? After all the murders she's helped solve the detective is still such a pain towards Annie? That's getting a bit old
So I jumped in with this free book but it's book 12 and I had no idea of any backstory, as none was offered. It was somewhat okay as these characters are not so deep that you needed a catch up page/paragraph to get through the mystery. There were several references to past events that had no explanation but again it isn't that serious. The mystery was good - did not see that coming. Not sure if I'll go back to read the first 11 books or any others after.
Merry Buried Christmas will get you in the spirit of Christmas. You won't look a Christmas the same when reading this one. Lindsey Cole knows how to weave Mystery with warm thoughts of Christmas Presents, Christmas Food, Family and Friends. Now it's time to solve the murder of Heather Danny's mom.
Merry Buried Christmas has everything a cozy mystery reader could want- intrigue, small town setting, loving family dynamics, & very memorable characters. A very enjoyable holiday read!
Another excellent and exciting book. Love stories centered around Christmas, this kept me on my toes. Love the descriptions of the sleigh rides. Recommended as a very good read. Cindy
If you love a great cozy with characters that will make you laugh and cry and a story that will keep you turning the page then Lyndsey Coles books are for you getting the next one now
Clues were coming in so fast, it was difficult to keep up much less figure out who did it. The character of Det. Crank has a knack for interrupting important events.
Not a challenging book, and too many holes that would spoil the review if I explained. This was my first experience with this series, and it wasn't compelling enough for me to try out another one.
Like the book before this one in the series, they are good who done it as you read trying to find the killer. These can be read as a series or as stand alone.
This is the first book i've read by lyndsey Cole. I really enjoyed it! I thought it was well written. I'm looking forward to going back to the beginning and reading all of her books!
