Bilo je to doba indijanaca i kauboja, s jedne strane bezakonja, s druge junaštva. Po tom svetu se kreće Nejt Kolton, jednoruki revolveraš koji samo pokušava da preživi u surovo vreme. Ali njegova (tragična? ili ne?) sudbina je mnogo čudnija nego što bilo ko može da zamisli…
Rosinski i Van Ham, dva fantastična autora dobro znana našoj publici, jedan predivan strip. Vestern pripoveda izuzetnu priču koja je nacrtana na nevelikom broju strana, ali je u te 64 table rečeno sve što treba da bi strip bio snažan i scenaristički i crtački. Kako ovo nije serijal, niti je previše obiman album, a sve je deo jedne zaokružene celine, nismo želeli da komadamo ovaj stripski biser privjuom, jer bez razrade, raspleta i epiloga sam uvod nema previše smisla u ovom slučaju, već ovoga puta ostavljamo čitaocima tu dozu, nekad poželjnog, isčekivanja i otkrivanja novog stripa od samog početka, pa do kraja ove priče – koja vas neće ostaviti ravnodušnima.

Another atypical Western, which tells the story of Eddie van Deer, a very small child supposedly kidnapped by Sioux after they've massacred his family, and whose uncle wishes to rescue him. Unaware that a trap is set up for him to rob him of the reward money for Eddie's rescue, the uncle meets a couple of miscreants claiming to have the nephew, and it ends up so badly that young Nate Chissum (passing off as Eddie van Deer) has to flee the scene of the gunfight with a wound that'll cost him his arm.
Taken up by an old hermit trapper who teaches him to shoot and survive on his own, the boy becomes a superb shootist and can earn his upkeep just fine for years. But he lives haunted by the memory of Cathy van Deer, the girl he almost ran over whilst fleeing the gunfight he nearly died at, and to follow his obssession, he comes up with a plan to get into her ranch and her good graces. He becomes the hero of a town in Kansas after he stops a bank robbery and kills famous outlaws from the Bass brothers' band, which earns him the praise and attention of everyone in town, including Cathy. But the jealous sheriff of Wichita fears Nate will uncover him as a double-dealing accomplice of the outlaws, so he schemes for Nate's downfall, with extremely tragic consequences.
The Van Hamme & Rosinski team are old familiars to me, and they've not disappointed with this story, their first (and so far only) Western. Rosinski's art is, as usual, 5-star worthy, and Van Hamme has done a good job with the plot, even if I think the story could've used a less abrupt ending with a few more pages to flesh it out.

Przeniesiemy się do 1868 roku w świat mrocznego, brutalnego, brudnego Dzikiego Zachodu. Ambrosius po wielu latach poszukiwań odnajduje swego czternastoletniego bratanka Eddiego. Chłopak po tym jak jego rodziców i braci zamordowali Indianie spędził dziesięć lat wśród Siuksów. Spotkanie to nie przebiegnie tak jak się tego spodziewali...
Znajdziemy tu wszystko czego możemy się spodziewać po klasycznym westernie. Samotny wędrowiec będący niezłym strzelcem, dwulicowy szeryf, bandyci napadający na bank i piękna kobieta. Bohaterowie nie są kryształowi. Fabuła jest pomysłowa i wciągająca. Ta historyjka wzbudza ogrom emocji. Zakończenie jest zaskakujące.
Obrazki są tu mistrzostwem, bardzo plastycznie i realnie oddają tamte czasy. Piękna kreska w stonowanych kolorach w tonacji sepii niczym na starych fotografiach, jedynie krew mieni się tu na czerwono. Mega to wygląda! Czuć klimacik Dzikiego Zachodu. Na dodatek między rozdziałami znajdują się przepiękne obrazy, które są prawdziwym majstersztykiem! Wprawiają w zachwyt! Dla oka to bardzo przyjemna rzecz.
To dzieło duetu Van Hamme'a i Rosińskiego po prostu urzeka. Polecam wszystkim tym, którzy lubią stare westerny.
Znajdziemy tu wszystko czego możemy się spodziewać po klasycznym westernie. Samotny wędrowiec będący niezłym strzelcem, dwulicowy szeryf, bandyci napadający na bank i piękna kobieta. Je n'ai plus regardé de Western depuis mon enfance alors quand je suis tombée sur ce livre j'ai voulu essayer et j'avoue que j'ai beaucoup aimé moi qui découvre le monde de la BD.

Nate Chissum jako dziecko dokonuje bestialskiego czynu w samoobronie i od tego czasu jest wyjęty spod prawa. Ale cały czas widzi przed sobą oczy małej dziewczynki widzącej te straszną jatkę, z której uciekł. Jest nią Cathy van Deer, obecnie właścicielka wielkiego rancha. Chłopak specjalnie udaje niemotę, by dostać pracę ochroniarza banku, a dzięki swoim umiejętnościom szybko okazuje się bohaterem udaremniając napad na tą instytucję. Jednak jego szybkostrzelność i celność ma też swoje słabe strony: nikt nie chce go w mieście. Taka osoba jak on jest idealną przynętą dla wszystkich awanturników żądnych pojedynku z nim i sławy, jeśli tylko tą potyczkę uda się wygrać. Stąd szeryf miasteczka wyrzuca Nate’a z miasta. Gdzież znajduje on swe miejsce na ziemi? Ano u Cathy. Tam dogląda jak inni kowboje jej stada. Do czasu, aż Nate odkrywa, że napad na bank nie był przypadkowy.

Nakon "Krvnikovog prijelaza" Johna Williamsa, Van Hammeov "Western" je najbolje od tematike što sam pročitao ove godine. S prisjećanjem na "Tragače", priča o preživjeloj žrtvi masakra ostavlja spaja dvije poznate trope žanra. Ona o revolverašu i ona o potrazi za djetetom koje je preživjelo ovdje je spojeno u punokrvni western oplemenjen fantastičnim crtežom koji je posebno dojmljiv između cjelina, kad Rosinski naprosto briljira.
Iako temu možemo donekle smatrati predvidljivom, u kombinaciji s ovim fantastičnim crtežom "Western" predstavlja strip koji svakako valja imati u kolekciji.

Westerns zijn het nooit echt geweest voor mij, of het nou om films, games of strips ging. Zelfs het duo Rosinski-Van Hamme - samen verantwoordelijk voor de klassieke Thorgal-albums - weet daar blijkbaar geen verandering in te brengen. De sepia-achtige pagina's zijn mooi, het verhaal weet een tijdlang ook best te boeien (ondanks alle verplichte elementen van het genre), maar het einde is voorspelbaar, onsympathiek en te abrupt om goed te werken.

Malgré une histoire un peu courte -une bonne quarantaine de pages aurait pu étoffer d'avantage l'intrigue et la rendre plus attrayante-, Western reste une bonne bande dessinée.
J'ai beaucoup aimé les planches 'interchapitres' de Rosinski.
Un très bon one-shot pour les amateurs de western et les fans de Van Hamme.

Superbe! des dessins incroyables de beauté et de détails dans un sépia digne de cette époque noire du vieux farwest. Un shérif ripoux, un antihéros, une belle et riche héritière, un braquage de banque, des cowboys, des indiens... Le tout dans des décors bien poussiéreux. Les clichés du genre certes, mais avec une histoire vraiment passionnante. J'ai adoré...

Boa história típica da dureza do velho oeste, algumas paginas duplas com pintura única que criam bonitas passagens. Cor no geral muito castanha como se permeada pela poeira do oeste, acaba por ser temática mas não adorei.

A wonderful intricate story with beautiful water-colour art. The sepia monochrome is perfect and so much of the narrative and character work is told through the artwork. The narration is sharp and witty and the paneling flows effortlessly. The whole cast of character are all amazing and the plot-twist at the end is staggering.

I greatly enjoyed this tale of the West in the 1880s.
The artwork is beautifully drawn: highly detailed and with a very muted but appropriate palette that really enhances an already good story. The splashes of color - typically blood from a gun shot or knife wound, really stand out all the more and punctuate the difficulty of life in the wild west. The art is also highly detailed - full color throughout and with none of the sparsity of modern digital comics. Chapters are divided with gorgeous, 2-page, high color painting-like artwork.
The story itself is excellent: with many unexpected twists and turns taken from a first person perspective. The artist gave the main character an almost childlike face to set off all the character goes through in the many years the story spans. Things always come full circle and this definitely is true of this moving story.
The book and story were definitely good enough for several rereads to experience the many nuances of the story. In all, highly recommended.

Soy un gran seguidor del western y siempre me pareció interesante que este género tan arraigado en Estados Unidos sea tan querido en Europa.
¿Qu ehace diferente esta historia del resto de los comics europeos de ambientación similar? Primeramente el arte, es toda una maravilla, cambia con el protagonista (algo que nunca he visto en el arte secuencual)
Quizás la únca falla sea la historia, un joven manco tratando de sobrevivir y que en días pasados estuvo metido en un engaño, a mi parecer la premisa es buena pero la sentí apresurada en algunos momentos.
Sin embargo es altamente recomendable.

Grzegorz Rosinski na escrita e Jean Van Hamme no desenhado, retratam o antigo Oeste em que o personagem principal de condição inferior para ter vantagem, faz-se passar por outra pessoa adotando o um novo passado e apresentando caraterísticas físicas que coincidem com a criança desaparecida por rapto dos peles vermelhas, dando por isso alguma credibilidade.
Mas descoberta a armadilha, esse personagem é imediatamente liquidado, e 40 anos depois é com surpresa que se confirma a veracidade desta empolgante história.

I really liked this work, a short and contained story of the postbellum American West. My one criticism of the text is its handling of the narration, which shifts abruptly in the last two pages. Perhaps it's Monday morning quarterbacking, but why not insert an outer, more objective/detached perspective at the very beginning so as to balance out that shift at the end?

I got intrigued because of this books Tamil version review. I loved the art work of Van Hamme this one was intense art, the story was gripping, but i felt that end was more unrealistic one. I would give 3.5 stars but good read allows me only for 4.
