Great Classics!

This book was free, from Amazon. I received several of them from a series. This is the first time I have read one. I’ve taken my time reading it, and l have truly enjoyed reading it.

The stories in this anthology were written in the late nineteenth and early twentieth century, but they are still scary. Not the bloody and gory kind of scary...the creepy and sneaky kind of scary.

Most of the stories in this anthology are new to me. I have never heard of them before. I suppose the more popular ones have been placed in other anthologies over the years. But I find that most of my favorites are the stories that I have never read before.

I recommend this book, and others in the series, to those of you who can enjoy a great horror story that is slow building and suspenseful and doesn’t rely on blood and gore to frighten you.

A happy five stars. ✨✨✨✨✨

These stories are classic horror, mostly psychological with just the right amount of specter and beast description. Modern horror is definitely not cut from the same cloth. The fear many of these instill is of the deep and insidious kind: you know you've been effected when you start watching that ash tree outside your window and wondering if it is indeed getting closer to the house or you become suspicious of your new black kitten when you awake with her perched on your chest.

to the casual reader, this series will undoubtedly have many stories to recommend it. Many of these stories were written in the late 19th and early 20th century.....times, and reading tastes have changed.
Personally, LeFanu does nothing for me...his "Green Tea", considered a classic, is here. Hawthorne's "The Ambitious Guest" is included - another story that does little.

But, for less than a buck, you can't go wrong.
