Caleb Wright had no idea what he signed up for when he agreed to go on a date with a tall, handsome stranger. What he got was tenderness of care wrapped up in the package of a silver-haired Dom. Caleb's past is murky, but when it all comes to light, Adam is still standing strong by his side.

La Vigne is a librarian by day and a smut writer by night. She is published with Deep Desires Press and self-published. La Vigne is a coffee drinker, MM romance junkie, and lover of monsters.
This is the first book I’ve read by L.B. La Vigne and it definitely won’t be my last. The Weight of Stillness is truly original. I enjoyed the author’s writing style, the story was creative, and the characters kept me guessing. The BDSM scenes are nicely constructed and there’s a yummy 13 year age gap too.
The way the author tells the story, with rapidly changing alternating points of view works well, and they do it skillfully. Even when secondary characters enter the picture we get their version of what’s going on. I can’t imagine how difficult it must be to pull this off, but L.B. La Vigne does it.
The story starts out strong and La Vigne nails the descriptions of the characters when they’re seated next to each other at a dinner party. Caleb is awkward and shy, and all his quirks come through clearly. When Adam first claps eyes on him he’s definitely attracted, and the best part? Caleb agrees to a date because he doesn’t have anything better on the horizon and knows he needs to get out more. The little game of cat and mouse they play is fun and I like it.
Early in their dating, Adam comes right out and declares he needs to include BDSM in their sexual relationship. This dredges up some intense issues for Caleb and I enjoyed watching him process it all.
It’s not that the sex is particularly hot, although it is, La Vigne keeps the focus on the establishment of the power exchange. Since the narrative flows seamlessly between the two men, what’s growing between them is vivid. Knowing how each man is processing their every exchange made me feel like I was being included in something very intimate.
Because Adam is the Dom, his focus stays on reading Caleb’s clues and directing the play. We don’t have access to Adam’s emotions beyond the physical, or what’s directly the result of something Caleb says or does. These scenes are compelling and beautifully written, clearly L.B. La Vigne has a deep understanding of this submissive’s experience.
Unfortunately from Chapter 5 on, the typos and the editing issues became distracting for me. Then the rich plot of the early part of the novel gets a bit thin. There are a few characters and scenes which really don’t add what they should, and what could have been a really BIG and pivotal part of the story, just fizzles out.
I’m intrigued by this author though, and will absolutely give them another shot. (I’d have loved to beta this one.)
When we opened on a dinner party, I didn't know where this would take us. Where the readers end up going is on the day-to-day life of Caleb as he juggles his new relationship with Adam. Adam is an older man he happens to meet at the dinner party and the two casually fall into being together.
While the relationship evolved in an unique way, I wish we got more of Caleb's thoughts. Since he's the narrator, I was expecting more about how he was feeling towards Adam and the new feelings that Caleb was exposed to. While the Dom/Sub relationship is not new to him, a healthy version of it was.
When we get near the end, it felt rushed with Caleb's back story and I wish it was more flushed out or eliminated all together. Overall, it was a quick and cute read.
Caleb is a quiet guy, private and a bit awkward. Prefers to go to work and straight home without too much socialization in between. His boss invited him to a dinner party, and while there he meets Adam. Adam is much older, has his particular tastes and can't wait to find out if Caleb is interested in the same things.
I'm not sure if it's the way this is written or if it was intended, but the relationship between Caleb and Adam just seems to forced. Realistically if Caleb had that many hangups and Adam was to the point in his life where he's sick of wasting time on relationships and not getting what he wants/needs, I highly doubt that this thing between them would have ever taken off.
I liked this book far more than I expected. First, because I’m not that much into ritualised BDSM scene. I can acknowledge its usefulness in real life when one wants to practice their kinks in a controlled and safe environment. But in fiction I prefer much less restraint than that. Therefore, I’m usually deeply disappointed by available SM erotica literature. It’s just too mild and lukewarm for my tastes in most cases. Second, for a long time I was almost completely indifferent to same-sex relationships in literature. It has changed eventually but even if I have started at last to explore similar motifs, it was only in very specific circumstances and for rare few specific pairings. So when I have embarked on a story of some random gay couple I was very, very sceptical to the whole affair. Surprisingly, the more the plot advanced the more my initial reservations dissipated. It was pure delight to observe how Caleb’s relationship with his boyfriend developed. Despite some issues here and there it was mostly warm, cozy and sweet (but thankfully not too sweet), like a comfortable blanket you can tuck yourself in. Probably exactly what I needed at the time to take a temporary rest from raging emotions. My favourite fragments were when two doms were discussing their respective fiancees and also the threesome which appeared at a certain point. Especially the latter. But it all had such a nice dynamics to it, the chemistry was there apparently the whole time. So if you crave for a comforting and well written love story with the twist this book is exactly for you. I have enjoyed it immensely, picky reader as I am. I’m not quite sure about additional plot though about Caleb’s past. I think it all could work equally well without it. I still can’t tell if it was better or worse for him things happened the way they were described. Luckily it doesn’t spoil the fun at all so I don’t mind that much.
this is a new author to me and I was very interested in reading this book. it was an ok read , but I felt some things were rushed especially towards the end.
Not what I usually read, but it caught my attention. Once I got into the story I couldn't put it down. I'm definitely looking for more from this author.
