Apostolic Alignment: An Intensive Word Study

Rate this book
Ephesians 4:11-12 is one of the most commonly used scripture passages referred to in outlining the responsibilities of those offices referred to as the five-fold ministry (apostle, prophet, evangelist, pastor, and teacher). In this passage, the most commonly offered interpretation of one key Greek word - katartizo - is to equip. However, Dr. Ron Cottle offers a different interpretation, one that more precisely conveys its meaning. That interpretation is to align. In the King James Version, katartizo is translated as perfecting. In the New International Version, it is translated as to prepare.

When the Revised Standard Version was introduced in 1952, this word was translated as to equip. Somehow, "to equip the saints for the work of ministry" became the default terminology, and remains to this day. Dr. Cottle sees it in a much different way. As you study Apostolic Alignment, you will understand why.

- See the five-fold ministry tasks from a different perspective.
- Develop an appreciation for intensive word study.
- Improve the technical aspects of sermon preparation.
- Integrate your spiritual and technical sermon development efforts for greater clarity and presentation.
