Margaret Way was born and educated in the river city of Brisbane, Australia. Before her marriage she was a well-known pianist, teacher, vocal coach and accompanist, but her hectic musical career came to a halt when her son was born and the demands of motherhood dictated a change of pace.

On a fortuitous impulse she decided to try her hand at romance writing and was thrilled when Mills & Boon accepted her first effort, Time of the Jacaranda, which they published less than a year later in 1970; a feat that brought tears to her father's eyes. Some seventy odd books have followed resulting in a loyal readership whose letters provide a source of support and encouragement. A driving force in all her writing has been the promotion of her much loved country, Australia. She delights in bringing it alive for her readers; its people, way of life, environment, flora and fauna. Her efforts so far have not excited official recognition, but she expects one day she will be awarded the "Order of Australia."

Her interests remain with the arts. She still plays the piano seriously, but her "top Cs" have gone. She is still addicted to collecting antiques and paintings and browsing through galleries. She now lives within sight and sound of beautiful Moreton Bay and its islands, inspiration for some of her books. Her house is full of books, spectacular plants, Chinese screens and pots. She is devoted to her garden and spends much time "directing the design and digging and providing cold drinks and chocolates."

Wow, give Margaret Way a word limit and she simply condenses the venom and bad behavior of the female characters.

Plot:

The incredibly stupid motherless heroine's incredibly thin Aunt, who looks like Wallis Simpson

and we all know what a sweetheart she was, tells the heroine that her beloved husband and her skanky best friend had a fling when she was having a neurotic meltdown in the hospital. Skanky Best Friend confirms it and the prologue is over.

Two years later, the heroine decides she wants the husband she questioned about his adultery back. He left in a huff never before seen in Australia as it is mentioned about three times.

On top of the nasty Auntie, the Skanky Best Friend and the stupid heroine there is the H's sweet but managing mother, his sister who can't decide if she hates her ex-SIL or not, the obsessed wannabe girlfriend to the H, and another bad egg that tries to manipulate the SIL.

A polo match, a ball, a poorly executed seduction, and the exposure of the evil villains who duped the stupid heroine awaits the reader.

Not MW's best.

This was one of three stories in the big stinker,Christmas with My Cowboy.

I won this book on goodreads. Scott and Darcey were the perfect couple until her aunt lies to her and gets a friend to back her up. Scott’s mother knows they belong together so she invites Darcey back for Christmas. Scott has another woman after him who also lies but this time Darcey doesn’t buy it. It did seem odd that Darcey didn’t even try to make things work before leaving Scott.

Interesting story. The characters and whole plot could have been longer and more developed and detailed. But it’s a nice, quick read.

I couldn't get in to this, and I didn't finish it.
