John W. Mefford has been writing his debut novel since he first entered the work force almost thirty years ago, although he never put words on paper until 2009. Once he started writing, however, he couldn't stop. Many readers ask John from where he gets his ideas. Well, he's a veteran of the corporate rat-race, a former journalist, and he's always been an astute observer of human and social behavior. On top of that, he's really good at embellishing.
A member of International Thriller Writers, John writes novels full of electrifying suspense -- the same types of books he has loved to read since before he could shave.
Wow....This series is very suspenseful, keeping you staying up late and gasping when things happen! An important lobbyist, Pamela Crane is found dead in a motel room and Ozzie is hired as a Private Investigator by the law firm of the accused. There are threats and danger to those Ozzie holds close, as he finds problems and links to several high powered persons. Ozzie's friends we have met early in the series become involved as the danger deepens! Ozzie has become a friend, we research beside him and try to 'help' him find the source of danger before all is lost! I really enjoy these stories the author enthralls us with, you are totally immersed with the group and may be shocked when you hit the last page and look at the clock. I recommend the whole "Redemption' series to all who enjoy mystery.. I received an ARC of this intriguing story from author John Mefford, who I thank and I am able to give you my review of this gem.
Ozzie is between the two brothers. He is in danger and even the friends trying to help being killed. But finally in good, understanding relationship with Nicole. He is determined to find the good brother. In this story Ozzie is getting little too emotional, sex scenes in this story was way too much.
Ozzie is hired to find evidence of a lobbyist's innocence in a murder. The more information Ozzie finds the more dangerous things get for him. For beginners, he finds out that this same lobbyist had something to do with ruining Ozzie's life before when he was a lawyer with a family! But Ozzie continues digging and finds out that the lobbyist isn't the only person he needs to becareful around. The danger even filters out to his family! Can Ozzie find a way to outsmart all these people and keep his family and himself from being killed? You will need to read this great story to find out. I voluntarily read an ARC of this book. I love everyone of the books in this series!
Ozzie and his freshly formed family can't catch a break! Every time Ozzie's life starts to get in balance something derails his chance for a calm and happy life. Ozzie is pulled into a case because of its connection to a friend, but it quickly becomes a massive undertaking that threatens his life and the life of everyone he cares about.
Can Ozzie wriggle out of the grasp of an unknown evil that's trying to destroy him?
This is a book that was very very difficult to put down! It's completely readable as a standalone book, but is so much better with the backstory of the previous books!
I have volunteered to share my review and all the opinions are 100% my own.
Ozzie Novak is drawn into uncovering the mystery behind a murder which is not what it seems on the surface. A lobbyist dies, and a suspect arrested. The security cameras in the corridor outside her hotel room show Franklin Marshall as the suspect, only he has a solid alibi in his wife.
Ozzie's old friend on the police force is dating the the lobbyist brother, and asks for his help. As an attorney he is well versed in the world of lobbying and the case is very lucrative for the P.I. But what he begins to uncover is not so cut and dry.
Alex Trout and her FBI team work with Ozzie to finally resolve the crime, which is intense and full of the plot twists and turns that have come to be common place for the Redemption Series by John W. Mefford. Once you think you know what should happen next, a new piece of evidence or player comes into the plot!
As usual, Mefford expands on the development of the main character, brings characters from the past novels into play, and pulls several climactic events together to keep us involved all the way through ON Fire. I don't want to give too much away, but this has been the most intense of the ON series thus far! ***I received this book free of charge in exchange for my honest review
Talk about a book that will set your nerves ON Fire! John W. Mefford has Ozzie wrapped up in so many layers that I'm not sure he'll come out the same as each layer is ripped off. He finds himself defending one of the men who aided in turning his life upside down and inside out. It also doesn't help the guy is so full of himself and the evidence begins to turn -- but is in the direction that Ozzie feels it is leading? Small pieces of his life are just starting to fall back into a sense of normalcy when he blinks and finds himself wrapped up in the worst kind of threat - an invisible one. He is going to have to put everything he's worked for and that he loves on the line for the slightest chance to save a sliver of it. I literally jumped up from my chair twice while reading because it will literally set you ON Fire!
I have volunteered to share my review and all the opinions are 100% my own.
John W Mefford's Redemption Thriller series has had me waiting for the next book each time I read one. ON Fire was no exception. I basically cannot wait to renew the reading of Ozzie Novak's life. Granted, mine is nothing like his but I feel like I can relate somehow.
This book starts off with the murder in question. Not all of the Ozzie books begin with intrigue. I had to try and figure out what was happening in Ozzie's life that this murder fit into but it really, on the surface didn't have any connection. As the story, and the mystery, unfolds, the connection to Ozzie becomes clearer.
Mefford is good at making sure that the details from previous books actually have a reason to be in the next one. That being said, you could easily read this book as a standalone. I am sure once you do, you would want to go back and read the previous one.
Definitely pick this one up and give it a read! I have volunteered to share my review and all the opinions are 100% my own.
On Fire will keep you on your toes trying to figure out who killed the woman---and why are others getting killed--how is all this connected? Ozzie, who is now kind of back with his estranged wife has no choice but to figure it all out. He was hired to find evidence that a lobbyist was not the murderer---but what he ultimately finds out---can he bring the murderer to justice and bring down an international conspiracy while still protecting his daughter and wife?
This is a fast read--again I read it in one sitting. The story line just would not let me go! ON Fire
Although fans of the series may have suspicions about who's behind the murder that kicks off this installment of the Redemption series, you won't know for sure until the end if you're right. If anyone other than Ozzie had decided to help someone who played that key of a role in blowing up their lives, I wouldn't have believed it. But at heart, Ozzie wants to help those who need it - whether they're powerful or weak. This time when he's thrust into the heart of danger Ozzie discovers he has some of his own power to heft, and it's more than just his client's life on the line if he doesn't find a way to use it to outmaneuver those working against him.
This book kept me guessing until the very end who the suspect was. It sucked me in, as do all of Mr. Meffords books and it didn't let my attention go until I finished it! One of my favorite things about Meffords books is that while they ARE all a part of a series, you don't have to have previously read the books in order to know what is going on! I don't know how Mefford is able to come up with all of his characters and stories and keep them straight! I guess that's the life of a writer! Great book!
I have volunteered to share my review and all the opinions are 100% my own.
I am trying to word everything so I don’t give everything away.
I did forget a certain aspect at the end of the last book that started this book, but I still had hope and that hope definitely gave me more than one suspect in this book.
I had the suspect in this book figured out immediately, but I wasn’t 100% confident so of course, I had to keep reading.
The book sucked me in – as it always does – and provided me several other suspects that definitely made me doubt my thoughts.
Like so many other John Mefford books, there was more than one issue needing to be solved and we still have one left unsolved that really links book 1 with this one. (Make note though, you do not have to had read book 1 to understand anything in this book. Each installment can be read as a stand alone and John does a wonderful job giving enough detail so you never feel lost.)
I look forward to seeing what the next book holds for Ozzie and am very curious how his relationship continues to go as I have serious doubts about his wife.
Mefford does an amazing job keeping you involved and on the edge of your seat trying to figure out the mystery with him. Almost makes me want to do private investigating – just minus all the danger and pain Ozzie goes through!
When Ozzie Novak’s best friend and Detective, Brook, called him for help, he did not hesitate. Apparently Brook’s boyfriends’ brother, Franklin Marshall, a lobbyist, had been arrested for murder. The victim, Pamela Cooper, was strangled to death. Since Ozzie is a private investigator, and former lawyer, Brook felt he could help with the case. Franklin and his attorney hired Ozzie to find ways to create reasonable doubt. As the investigation continues, Ozzie finds out that he has been lied to by Franklin and his attorney on some key facts. Because of this Ozzie decides to do his own investigation, without their knowing it. All kinds of strange things start to happen, and Ozzie had become a prime target for some reason. Someone is trying to kill Ozzie. It also seems that the people that he meets with are being targeted and killed. Why would this be the case? What is the motive for the murder and for the additional killings? Is there a tie to Franklin and his lobbyist career? Did Franklin really kill Pamela Cooper? I just loved the plot in this story, and I liked the fact that Ozzie calls in his friends from the FBI for help in this book. The character development is great, and as usual, Ozzie Novak has hit a home run. I can’t wait for the next book.
Once more Ozzie is back navigating twists and turns. On Fire is well worth the read. Exciting really doesn't cover this suspenseful mystery thriller. Ozzie, along with some of our old faves are out to solve a murder. The culprit does look guilty, but things may not be completely clear.
Mefford, like usual, is great at throwing you off your guard. Just when you think you know what is coming.... well, lets just say you have to read this to find out!
ON Fire by John Mefford was indeed, ON FIRE!!!! Great book, excellent read and (as always) phenomenal writing and story telling by author, John Mefford.
When Ozzie’s friend Brook calls him for help, he doesn’t know what to expect. Brook’s boyfriend Noah’s brother, Franklin, had been accused of murder. It seems Franklin, or his lawyer, Winston, had requested Ozzie’s private investigation services. Even though Franklin and Winston are sleazy scum, Ozzie agrees to investigate, but doesn’t know what to believe, when there is evidence of guilt as well as innocence. One thing’s for sure, this investigation has once again brought danger to Ozzie’s doorstep.
This series just gets better and better. I like the Ozzie/Nicole theme going on. There’s not much more to say that I haven’t already said about this Redemption series. Of all the John Mefford writings, this is my favorite. Since Ozzie was introduced, his personality has evolved into a well-rounded loveable, and at times, laughable character.
ON Fire (An Ozzie Novak Thriller, Book 5) (Redemption Thriller Series 17) by John W Mefford When Pamela Connor is found dead in a hotel room and the suspect turns out to be a prominent lobbyist- Franklin, Ozzie finds himself on the case to prove Franklin’s innocence despite damning evidence showing otherwise.
Now I had an hunch as to who the actual suspect was from the beginning and Mefford really sucked me in with this story throwing in a few curve balls, explosions and gun fights to throw me off, and as we ride along with Ozzie piecing everything together we learn there is something far bigger going on connecting events from the first book to people in this one, and once again his life and his families are on the line.
That being said you do not need to have read the previous book in the series (though you would be mad not to!) as Mefford does a great job or providing enough of a back explanation,, this book built up slowly to an explosive ending that I can’t wait to read what is store for Ozzie next.
The next installment in the Ozzie Novak Thriller series, ON Fire, brings you on a whole new adventure that you don’t want to miss. Once I started reading, I did not want to put the book down. You twist through the life of a politician while learning of the dark secrets the public is not always aware of. On the way to solving his next big crime, Ozzie is put at risk and finds his life in danger. You never know who is out to get you – the people that are paying your salary or someone else. This story will keep you on the edge of your seat trying to figure out why Ozzie is a target when all he is after is the truth. The many players in this story help create a unique and thrilling read. There is always enough descriptiveness in John W Mefford’s books that you feel you are there watching it happen. The characters are well developed and engaging.
John W Mefford knows how to bring a story to life, give you a thrill and keep your attention. He is a very talented writer that I have come to enjoy and look forward to what he comes up with next. John does a great job of intertwining the characters from his different series. This author is definitely high up on my go-to author list. A must-read for those who enjoy thriller suspense novels.
Well WOO HOO! And WOW! On Fire will set you on fire for sure. Excellent BOOK. Excellent WRITING. Several stories within a story. Main character Ozzie Novak and his friends go all out in this one. Corrupt government departments, lobbyists, and individuals, go all out against Ozzie and family and sets the stage for a real THRILLER, and suspenseful story, full of twists and turns and even some very touching romance for he and his wife. More character development in On Fire as well. People grow and it is very life like characters who do the same. Plot thickens but with John Mefford you will not be able to predict one moment in this book. Surprises abound. Very touching moments in Ozzie’s life as he finally melds his mind with his heart. DEFINITELY A MUST READ and I HIGHLY recommend On Fire where John Mefford is at the helm of leading the reader through some great moments. Thank you John Mefford for every book where each one matches the greatness of the last. At risk of repeating myself ...MUST MUST READ!!!
"Change or you will die." A woman is murdered. A suspect arrested. The security cameras in the corridor outside her hotel room show Franklin T.Marshall was there just before the time of her death. It all seems cut and dried. Except his soon to be divorced wife of 21 years said that Franklin had been with her then. Ozzie is asked by his friend, Brook, a detective with the Austen police force, to look into it for her: she was dating the suspect's brother, Noah. And as he investigates, Oz finds some strange discrepancies ...
With his usual panache and excellent visual writing skills, author John Mefford delivers another involving story in the life of the unfortunate but very likable lawyer-turned-private-eye Ozzie Novak. Completely stand alone, as are all of the stories, it is additionally enhanced by reading them in order and is also part (number 17) of the larger Redemption series, all of which are recommended.
Once again John Mefford has managed to produce a great thriller in his Ozzie Novak series, which is in turn a sub-series of his 'Redemption' series. This book isn't as violent as some of the books in this series have been, but it certainly doesn't lack impact because of that. This is a real multi-layered plot where the bad guys aren't always guilty, and Ozzie is forced to help one of the people who was responsible for destroying his previous life. I love that these books are part of 2 series, yet are still complete stand-alone stories, however I would still recommend that that the rest of the series is read as well, they form a complete saga. I can't wait for the last book in the two series 'ON the run' to see how the author brings everything to a climax, it should be a blast! I received a complimentary copy of the book, but this voluntarily written review is based on my own honest opinion.
This is the 5th book in the Ozzie Novak Thriller series and I liked this one the best. I couldn’t get enough of it and loved the story line. You can read it as a stand alone but I high recommend you read the entire series. John W. Mefford has become one of my favorite authors so I recommend all of his books.
In this book, PI Ozzie Novak is hired by a highly known attorney firm to make sure one of their attorney’s doesn’t get charged with murder after video shows him leaving her room. Not everything is as it seems, even videos can be manipulated. Along his journey of the investigation there is the usually things that happens to Ozzie, fights, twist and turns and just a great storyline. As in the other books in the series, Ozzie continues his relationship with his daughter that he didn’t knew he had until recently and the repair of his marriage.. This side of Ozzie is just wonderfully written.
This 5th Ozzie Novak book is the bast yet! Ozzie is an attorney turned Private Detective who is sometimes to willing to help a friend and this time didn't look at the fine print.
He gets pulled into a murder investigation that immediately leads to him getting followed, shot at, threatened by his client and the client's very powerful attorney.
We even get to see FBI Agent Alex Trout - the main character from the first books of the Redemption series - when Ozzie turns to her for help in getting all the bad guys brought to justice and at the same time, keep his family safe.
John Mefford is a genius at weaving a story and keeping you guessing until the very end. All the books in the Redemption Series are stand-alone novels, but reading them from the beginning, to me, is the way to go. The three main characters pop up in each other's stories and you will be hook from the first Alex Trout, then Ivy Nash and finally on to Ozzie Novak. You won't be disappointed!
Ozzie took on a doozy of a case in this book. It is the epitome of intrigue and multi national espionage. Part of the book was predictable in that someone s behavior was not consistent with their reputation, but the rest of the book was full of tense moments, multiple angle cues, egrets, bombs, murder, and of course a dash of romance as Ozzie gets his life back on track.
Par for the course Ozzie is injured and this time Tito asks why does this always happen which got a chuckle out of me. Nicole has grown on me and I really liked her character and role in this story. This story should be read in order because the dynamics at play between characters is important to how each scene plaster out and who Ozzie went to when he needed help.
The more I read of this big three part series the more I enjoy all of the characters and stories. I don’t have a favorite character or book but I know when I finish one book I immediately want more!
I seriously don't know how Mr. Mefford manages to come up with these stories and characters and keep them all straight in that warped head of his! LOL!! His mind has to resemble a beehive merged with subterranean tunnels and layered with gore and grime and then sunshine and love because it's all mixed in together in his stories. I am dreading the end of this interlocking series because it has been such a wild ride and I haven't visited any other amusement park quite like the one Mefford has created. Go ahead and jump on! You won't regret it except for the lack of sleep until you finish reading.
I received a free copy of this book and voluntarily chose to review it.
I don’t know how John Mefford does it! Each book in this entire series just get better and better the more you read. The Ozzie Novak Series is no exception. The “On Fire” Book has more twists and turns and because you cannot figure out what is going to happen next you won’t be able to put it down. I read this book in one setting and am on fire waiting for the next one. It has been thrilling to say the least to watch John Mefford grow as a thriller author with each book. I dare say he is one of the best out there and will continue to be for a long time. Don’t miss this great thriller series. Start it today. You won’t be sorry.
John Mefford is on Fire with this book. I loved this book and could not put it down! This is the latest in Meffords Redemption series and this is his best Ozzie Novak thriller yet! It is full of the twists and turns and suspense that has made me a huge fan of his. And in this one Ozzie is in quite a pickle! But you will have to read the book to find out if he gets himself and his family safely out of this one! I am so glad to see old "friends" again, and I cannot wait for the next in this series!
Another great book by John W Mefford! Each book is better than the last one. I loved this book from the first page to the last and didn’t want to put it down. Every twist and turn pulled me into the story even more. I really like a book that makes you feel like you’re right there in the story with the characters and this one does just that. I Highly recommend reading this book and the rest of the series.
A lawyer turned PI, Ozzie is asked to help a not so nice lobbyist be proven not guilty after a woman he was just with was murdered. Was he setup and why. There are several twists, and more murders to this fast moving thriller. It's big money and how they will do anything to keep their secrets. In the mist of it all, Ozzie is moving closer to Nicole and making life changes. This story held my interest the entire way through. Very interesting, enjoyable and well written.
A woman, Pamela Connor, is murdered in a hotel room. Ozzy Novak is hired by a law firm, LEAP, as a PI, to find evidence of reasonable doubt for the accused. It took me awhile to get to one of Mefford's books because I have a long reading list. And I'm sorry it did. This was a very interesting read. Intriguing characters and intriguing story.
These books have me ridiculously hooked. Since book 1 i have truly enjoyed every last word. This guy knows his job...he clearly loves his job...best series of books I've ever read. Soooo happy i decided to read them. Impatiently waitung for the end, tho not sure i ever want it to end. A MUST READ!!!!!
