Every moment in life has a story to tell and no one knows this better than Arun K Nair, the author of 'Murderous Greed', which also happens to be his first published novel. The book focuses on the darker side of humanity, while characters are based on people you are likely to meet in your everyday life.
As a sanguine personality, Arun is known for his extensive network of friends, many of whom are story tellers in their own right. These anecdotes, of mostly real life incidents, inspired him to create the plot that is 'Murderous Greed', the over-desires of a man and its covert implications on unassuming innocent people.
Arun did his engineering from Government College of Technology, Coimbatore. Subsequently, he accomplished a master's degree in business management from Great Lakes Institute of Management in Chennai, and as life would commonly have it in India, he went on to spend over a decade working for IT Services Companies in different marketing and business development roles, before taking up writing full time.
Arun lives with his wife Rani Asha, his son Dharsh, his parents - Kumaran Nair and Sreedevi Amma and his sister Asha at Chennai. Arun attributes his motivation to write to his extremely supportive family and friends.

Hello All …. Before going deep into the review of Murderous Greed by Arun K Nair, I would like to congratulate the Author for his efforts. Every Literary work is unique in itself and the review given below is an honest result of my understanding on the subject and must not be taken otherwise.

Let’s quickly go through the ratings

Title : 4/5
Cover : 3.5/5
Blurb : 4/5
Plot : 3.5/5
Language Used : 4/5
Presentation : 4/5
Overall : 3.8/5

About the Book : The story revolves around murder of a businessman named Kartik and necklace snatching incident with a woman named Kanaga. Both the incidents took place minutes apart on 25th March 2017. Police inspector Satyajit is investigating the case and with only one witness to the murder named Drishti the case seem to be very complicated. The pointer of doubt moves from person to person while many mysteries get revealed to Satyajit to his astonishment. The police commissioner wants to shut the investigation down while Sriram one of the biggest competitor of Kartik reveals about the deal struck between him and Kartik. But betrayal and deception can change an entire plot altogether.

About Writing : The author has put in great efforts in writing plots and describing people & situations. One can easily identify that everything is written with a detective view point which is the real requirement of this kind of writing. The text is simple and lucid and use of simple words to describe people and situation makes it an easy and interesting read. The reader can connect to the story very well and credit goes to the author's writing flow and editor's (if any) work. The timing of revealing the mystery at various points is just perfect which keeps the reader motivated (to read further) throughout the reading process. Every character has been given due exposure and there is no excessive narration of situation or plot. The ending of the novel connects every single thread and completes the story on a positive note. Author has been successful in creating enthusiasm for the upcoming sequel of the novel through epilogue.

The author has discussed the murderous nature of greed that dwells inside every living individual. The level and type of greed differs from individual to individual and so is the extent to which one goes in life to fulfill the greedy desire. The author seem to try balancing the concept of being right while actually doing wrong and has tried hard to at least put this thought for reader's conscience. Since being right or wrong is all situational, hence author or anyone else as a matter of fact can hardly generalize anything on such subject.

Critical Review:
1. As most of the story revolves around Karthik's murder the cover image should have been more focused on the same.

Despite all critical views, the words and story seem to come out from depth of Author’s heart and his effort is appreciable. I once again congratulate him and wish him luck for his future endeavors.

Murderous Greed is one of those books that will keep you up late at night. What starts out as simple accidents, turns out to be well-planned, deceptively thought out murders. This is a book with twists and turns and heart-racing confessions. This is a book about greed and the consequences it can lead to. Let me start with the characters first.

The main characters of this book are Satyajit and Drishti. Satyajit is the Police Inspector and Drishti is the prime suspect for murdering Karthik as she was the only one present while Karthik was murdered. Though Drishti does not have many appearances in the story, her character makes a tremendous impact on the readers as she has her own sad story. Satyajit being the main male protagonist, his character develops as the story progresses. The readers will get glimpses of the ways his rational judgements regarding the cases take place in his mind.

Now coming to the plot, it becomes addictive towards the end as the revelations finally comes out. The book is a fast paced one from its first page and I actually finished it within 24 hours. The best think that I like about the book is that the story in not complicated and doesn't deviate from the plot. It is well worked out and it is clearly evident that the author has done a lot of research work on this book. From intricate details about bike stunts and government tenders, this book has it all.

So if you want a good murder mystery that you can finish in one or two sittings then this is your go to book.

Book Title:
The title of the book 'Murderous Greed' directly gives the reader and idea that the book is going to be thriller. Whether it's about a crime or a psychological plot is to be known yet.

Book Cover :
The book cover is simple with two human figures one after the other in red and black silhouette where one is of the victim and other is of the criminal. This further adds more guess work to complement the title and its meaning.

Plot:
The plot of the story is a new form of suspense thriller. The story line with a rich vocabulary and great narration makes the story more interesting. The reader can find a definite high action sequenced scenes while reading.

The plot is a combination of two murders that happened in a very mysterious manner. The protagonist who is the involved police official in solving both the cases at some point comes to a conclusion that both the murders are interrelated. The investigation process and journey that is the main skeleton of the plot which almost resembles nice movie plot is an interesting point. The reason behind the crimes and the people who are responsible gives a different perception about the motives that arise to gain something.

It's indeed a common nature of a thriller story somewhere to lose its grip on the main storyline, but the author here has done an excellent job here in making the readers stuck to the story.

Characters:
All the characters are very perfectly and nicely plotted.

Narration:
The narration is very fantastic with a great story telling.

Language and Vocabulary:
A very nice usage of rich grammar and wonderful vocabulary is seen.

My Final Verdict—.
A worthy read for a mystery lover with some interesting twists !

Chasing opportunities to succeed in life is one thing and being greedy for it is another. How greed destroys people is what “Murderous Greed” written by Arun K Nair tries to portray. And when it comes down to money, a greedy person doesn’t mind harming another human being for a chunk of gold.

“Murderous Greed” is set in the town of Avadi and weaves a plot where the some innocent people are falling victim to murders in succession. While, the murders doesn’t seem to be linked to one another at first glance, later on as Inspector Satyajit unravels these murder mysteries, he finds them all to be linked to one thing: greed.

With each case he solves, he finds himself getting tangled into more difficult cases where his investigation leads to nowhere. As he treads on dark water, the cases get dirtier and murkier. Satyajit is an honest police officer and has a reputation of being successful in solving the most tough and complicated cases. Will he be able to uncover the truth behind the murders? Will he find all the answers to his questions?

The plot is really simple if you ask me, that’s why I didn’t include any spoilers or else the story would have been completely revealed (which I don’t want). Overall, the book is good but I would have preferred if the language was a bit more sophisticated (yeah, I am kind of high on language) but, for readers who prefer simplistic language, this book would be good. The characters were well portrayed, Satyajit, the lead protagonist, especially.

MY FINAL VERDICT

What really stood out to me was the cover and the title. The whole plotline really resonates with the title. The story doesn’t deviate from the theme with unnecessary details and that I believe is a strong point for the book.

People who are looking for a simple crime novel can give this book a shot.

REVIEW

Crime thriller is one of my favourite genre and really love those thrillers which make me stick to my reading corner and Murderous Greed by Arun K Nair is one of them. A gripping story revolving around two murder cases which are filled with so much suspense that I wasn't able to put it down. It is an engaging book written in a simple language and the book font is quite large and the author has penned down marvelously. The novel has a very strong plot which made me guess so much. It is filled with so many unexpected twists and turns, making it a page turner. All the characters are very well described and are very realistic. The events are written in a descriptive way that a reader can easily visualize them. I really liked the way author has penned down the interrogation portion. The pace of the book is also not too fast, everything is time bounded for the readers to make it interesting. The theme of the book remains greed. Reading this book was a thrilling experience for me. Overall, the book is very gripping and intriguing and the title is very well justified. It's a page turner and I would highly recommend it to all the crime thriller lovers.
Now I can't wait to read the second part of the book 'Greed Ends' which will be out in 2018.

*Thanks to the author for providing a copy of the book.

Murderous greed
Cover is simple, the silhoutte background could have been better or improvised.
Title is effective & goes in hand with the story.
Theme of the book consists of friendship, love, trust, bond, greed, lust, malicious intent, revenge, murder, conspiracy and many other aspects intervowen together to
make a crispy story worth reading.
Story involves many recurring incidents, with no leads or clues to solve the case. Many incidents taking place in the city but the connection which has to be established
is led by a missing link which is the root cause of all problems. Well that is where the story gets interesting.
Though as a suspense & thriller lover, it does lack some aspects. But at certain places it does have some let downs, which if improved could help a lot.
Language is kept simple, can be improvised. The book has some errors which can be rectified certainly.
Narration is good. Overall, a good read.
Awaiting the sequel.

Kanaga, victim to a chain-snatcher loses her life and Karthik, an young business man was found dead in his car with Drishti who was his employee. Both the cases are given to Mr. Satyajit, Inspector of Avadi Police Station. Avadi is a region where crimes are lower and these two cases keeps the officers involved full time. Satyajit is a honest police officer and he loves his mother a lot. As the investigation proceeds, they doubt illegal bikes and tries to link the two cases as both happened in a difference of 15-20 mins and at a nearby place. His team Naren works on Kanaga’s Case, Yojith works on Karthik’s Case and Jude, a new joiner to collect all information regarding both the cases. The investigation makes everyone confused as they doubt Commissioner of Police to be involved in Illegal Activities. Author mentions “Greed is Good”, in case if you improve yourself and not when you do bad things.Mystery unveils at the end of the book with full clarification which comes as a shock to Satyajit.

Greed comes in different forms as some people may have it for money and others for power. Can someone have the greed to kill for just fulfilling certain motives?
‘Murderous greed’ by Mr. Arun K. Nair is the first book in series. The story starts with the cash snatching incident followed by two murders within a short span of few minutes. A woman had died in chain-snatching attempt and a businessman shot dead by bikers in early- morning hour. Police Inspector Satyajit with his efficient team, putting in his best efforts to reveal the truth as the story takes unexpected twist and turn of events. Whether he is able to crack the riddle? Well, there are lots of surprising elements in this crime thriller. This enthralling story moves on very swiftly. The author used simplistic language in narrating the story. However, I felt the character introduction and incident description could have been even bit more vivid, smoother and exciting.

In the relatively calm township of Avadi in the outskirts of Chennai, Inspector Satyajit is suddenly confronted by twin murders. Both have a common connect, while one was a chain snatching of a lady gone wrong, the other was a shooting incident of an emerging businessman, both carried out by bikers with unidentified plates.

Inspector Satyajit starts investigating and the murder of the businessman, Karthik, leads him to some murky dealings.

The book goes well, and abruptly stops, and the modus operandi is revealed. The narrative is good, but these are not seamless, rather seem two sperate bits with on pointing to the other bit.

A decent read, nothing exceptional, not bad either. Read on for a good weekend time pass, if you have nothing much to do and want a pacy read, that shall be done quickly.

The riskiest thing you can do is get greedy. The story "Murderous Greed" by Arun Nair evolves around this above quote. The story took me to a small town, Avadi in Chennai. The description of the town was good however it could be better. The story is no less than a movie which has twists and turns good enough to raise and hold the excitement of the reader. The case is way deeper than it looks in the beginning. The story is an amazing concoction of love, hatred, revenge, conspiracy and of course greed! Eagerly waiting for the second part of the story.

THE TITLE-
Indeed Murderous Greed is a very interesting and appropriate title for the book. We all know that Dialogues must appear as natural as if coming from effortless writing. It must not sweat. The beloved readers must not sweat. But here the author is literally sweating, because her characters are literally talking fishy in a steamy sweaty and bloody scene. The combination of the suspense and the chillness are very vividly described throughout the plot. When you read the account of a murder - or, say, a fiction story based on murder - you usually begin with the murder itself. That's all wrong. The murder begins a long time beforehand. A murder is the culmination of a lot of different circumstances, all converging at a given moment at a given point. People are brought into it from different parts of the globe and for unforeseen reasons. The murder itself is the end of the story.
The title itself creates this thrilling environment. The world says: "You have needs -- satisfy them. You have as much right as the rich and the mighty. Don't hesitate to satisfy your needs; indeed, expand your needs and demand more." This is the worldly doctrine of today. And they believe that this is freedom. The result for the rich is isolation and suicide, for the poor, envy and murder.
REVIEW OF THE BOOK-
I understood something after completing the book-Known is Nothing, Unknown is everything; this is Half Hidden World.
We know only a little about ourselves, even ourselves. So blind are we that more often than not we never know what we're going to do next, Love or Hate. Like what we are for ourselves, a part of our soul mates, our boy and girl friends, also remains Unknown to us, quite naturally, despite living together under the same roof, eating together, sleeping together....And that hidden part makes us ex-things to others.
The author very beautifully creates the atmosphere to inculcate the sequential murders in the story. It was like this blackness that crept into the corners of my life until everything was grey and dirty. My insides felt burnt out, like if you cut me open, all you would find would be smoke. No heart. No bones. There was nothing left, just the anger. It followed me everywhere. It sat on my bed and watched me sleep and when I had to eat, it looked at me across the table.
That’s what a thriller plot looks like and the author has proved it correctly through her creation.
I felt a beautiful inner meaning apart from the crime that was highlighted. We take what we want at the end of a gun, we murder and rape and steal, and we call it bringing civilization. And what is civilization, to us, but us being properly grateful to be murdered and raped and stolen from? We say we know justice when we heard of it. Well, what is our justice but us allowed to treat us as we like, and us condemned for even attempting to defend ourselves?
To find out the truth and to follow Satyajit’s investigation trail; please order your copies from

YOU SHOULD READ THIS BECAUSE-
1. THE SPINE CHILLING THRILLING PLOT.

2. THE DEATH FACTOR AT EVERY TURN OF THE PAGE

RATINGS-
Overall I would like to rate the book 42 on a scale of 50.
4 stars out of 5
1. Originality of the plot and sub plots- 9/10
2. Net emotions in the story- 8/10
3. Usage of words and phrases-8/10

BOOK REVIEW: Murderous Greed by Arun K

Pages: 203
Published: 2017 by Notionpress
Cover Rating: 4/5

Crime Fiction is one of my favourites genre to read. I can read books falling under this genre in no time. In my reading years, after reading both classics and contemporary crime fiction novels, I have concluded that a good crime fiction is written with variant in its narrative pace. Not only it keeps the reader driving forward, continue the guess work, but it eliminates the possibility of having dragging components in between. Murderous Greed by Arun K is an excellent example of that.

The plot is set in town of Avadi, Tamil Nadu where two tragic occasions have happened on one morning. In the first one a woman falls victim to chain snatching and gives away her life in the process. In the second case, a young business man falls short of his life and his shot at least twice, reported by the witness. A police officer is on the roll and has a deadline to match to complete these cases. But more over he suspects are these two cases interwind somehow? Follow Satyajit, the contemporary detective inspector, as he attempts to uncover these dubious questions.

The storyline has an average start as it takes time to build up the whole situation and the life around the characters involved. I always, when introducing a detective, or protagonist in mystery or crime fiction novels, a writer should spend some amount of time in the process of building up the surreal reality. It is always a good sign, or a good start in my opinion and is an essential step in crime fiction genre. The author of this book does that. The narrative voice uses third person element gracefully.

The characterisation of this novel is interesting because these characters play bigger role. The character of protagonist gets the reader's attention from the start and does take enough time to develop and it feels his character might fall flat in the first half of the novel. Believe me, things get a lot more interesting in the second half, as soon as your half way through this novel. The pace of this book is smooth at times but picks speed when it has too. This novel does not classify as a complete thriller until the climax but in my opinion it does not have too. There are strong vibes from the start that mystery included is going to be larger than life kind of thing.

As a reader, to fulfil the challenge of solving the mystery is a bit difficult int this novel. I am sure, many might do but I could not. The reason being the well use of red-herring element by the author. A master display of that. I am surprised by the conclusion and found it a delight at the same time.

Pick this one up if you have taste for crime fiction or mystery. There is a sequel coming this year.

Reading crime novels by debut Indian authors is a great feeling considering all of them are inspired by the successful Western authors but yet try to carve their own path with a unique story. Arun K Nair has also entered the world of literature with a book based on crime thriller where a set of policemen are trying to figure out the murderers of the two cases that takes places within few minutes. The book is of about 200-pages which I feel is quite applaudable considering how few stories are written in such a stretched manner that the readers start skipping sentences between paragraphs. Author has kept the story to the point without wasting too much time in description. The cover page and the title are also catchy which interested me in picking this book for reading.

Arun’s writing style is average and you won’t find anything to learn from it. This book will be more effective for the new readers trying to associate themselves with Indian novels and wish to start with crime genre. It is an easy crime thriller where you won’t have to remember multiple dates, locations, characters etc. Author has kept things simple for the reader to complete the book in one sitting. I completed this book within 2.5 hours and it’s a wonderful book to carry with you while traveling.

The first half of the book is very interesting when the two unfortunate events take place. The entry of policemen in the story and the way they start attacking each suspect with their questions and interrogations is a nice read. The first half promises a better second half which is where the book couldn’t fully satisfy me. The revelation of the climax is too simple and does not come with a bang shocking the shit out of the reader. The book keeps discussing only one murder scene throughout and totally forgets the other one which makes the story sound half-baked. Author should have tried writing the interrogation for both the cases happening simultaneously.

Overall, Murderous Greed stays true to its title and the story is written exactly aligned with it. The Author’s note in the end of the book states that there’s a sequel planned which is releasing this year itself. This came as a surprise and I am looking forward to it. Arun K Nair will have to write a better book than this one to impress his already created fan-base. I rate Murderous Greed with 2.5* out of 5 as it will intrigue the new readers but for the lovers of crime thrillers, this book is too simple to stand out amongst all.

Greed is the root cause of all unhappiness. The rest that follows it such as Wealth, Power are just secondary. But as the saying goes, what goes around, comes around. Karma always prevails and the guilty are always punished.

'Murderous greed' is a story involving two gruesome murders in the quaint village of Avadi, in Tamilnadu. Avadi village, which is known to have one of the lowest crime rates in the state, witnessed two shocking murders in a single day. Kanaga, a middle aged lady who was on her way to attend a wedding, injured her head against a lamp post when she was protecting her necklace from the chain snatcher. She succumbed to the injuries on her head.

At the same time, CEO of Fast Construction Corporation was murdered in his car, when he was returning home in the wee hours of the morning. Top cop Satyajit is summoned for duty. During the course of the investigation, he finds that the common link between two murder cases, is the bike. The case turns ugly, when The Commissioner of Police, asks him to speed up the investigations, he too comes under the radar of suspicion. Meanwhile, the participation of the police commissioner, in the secret society 'The Gun Club' also comes into the picture.

The way the author has woven the two murders and established a logical and feasible connection is commendable. There was not a single moment, when the plot drifted apart from the central theme i.e Greed. The description of the picturesque village of Avadi is beautifully articulated in words.I loved the realistic characterisation of the investigating officer, Satyajit. He didn't resemble any of the famous detectives in literature, and has managed to carve a separate niche for himself. I look forward to witness him in action, in the next book.

The fast pace of the book, will influence the surge of adrenaline to a great extent. I couldn't predict the ending, no matter how much I tried. The author has saved the best for the last.

The plot slightly slumped in the middle, as there were only discussions amongst the police officers and less of the investigation sequences. The suspense element was lost in between the lines. The language was too simple, it could have been more refined.

Title: Murderous Greed

Author: Arun K Nair

Publisher: Notion Press

Publication Date: 1st November 2017

ISBN-13: 9781948096874

Number of Pages: 203

Murderous Greed by Arun K Nair is a crime thriller that has been dedicated to the author’s wife. The book majorly highlights the bike robberies. In India, bike robbery has become very common. A few bike riders just snatch away expensive ornaments from the victims without even caring about their lives. Many innocent people lose their lives just because they roam freely wearing expensive jewellery. Murderous Greed features two criminal cases in which the bike riders killed two innocent lives. The first case was of a lady Kanaga who was merrily on her way to attend her relative’s wedding when suddenly a bike rider snatches away the ornament she wears and hence she loses her life in the process. The second case was related to a couple in which Karthik and Drishti were on their way to their home when suddenly a bike rider shot Karthik dead while he was driving. A police inspector Satyajit was allotted the two murder cases and he suspected all the people who were involved in the cases. Will he succeed in getting hold of the culprits or are there more murders coming forth in the story? Murderous Greed is a thrilling roller coaster ride. The prologue started on a mysterious note and right from the first chapter this book grabs the reader’s attention and makes the reader prepared for upcoming twists and turns in the story. The plot will make the reader suspect each and every character in the book. The book not just narrates a simple crime based story but also carries a social message for its readers. By highlighting the crime rate the author has portrayed the threat that lies around every human being. The cover of the book could have been much better. It could have included a bike rider instead of a person carrying a pistol. The title is apt to the theme. The book is written in a lucid and informal language. The book is a perfect balance of dialogues and narration. Overall, it was a thrilling book with a lot of suspense. I would recommend this book to all the readers who love to read thrillers as this book is worth every penny that you spend on it.

1. A chain snatch by the roadside which unfortunately resulted in the death of the victim, Kanaga.

2. A murder on the Ring road where the victim, Karthick, CEO of Fast Build Corporation was shot dead by two bikers when he was returning from his office along with his associate, Drishti.

When both these cases were assigned to the inspector Sathyajit, he finds that both the deaths were happened in the time range of 5.30 am to 6.00 am. When circling the suspects, Sriram, the CEO of the Big Build Corporation becomes the main suspect.

Are both these murders related to one another?? What was the main objective behind these murders??  Who is the real culprit?? Is Drishti showing her real self to the cops?? Who was leaking information to the outsiders from the police community?? Why the commissioner is more interested to close the case?? Who Kanaga actually is??

Join the inspector Sathyajit and his crew of officers, Yojith, Jude and Naren to uncover the mystery hidden behind these two deaths.

Murderous Greed - The author recieves much appreciation for his intriguing plot which hooks the readers with it till the end. The flow of words and the good narration helps to finish off the book within some few hours. Apart from being a crime thriller, this book also portrays what true love is. The characters of Yojith, Drishti and Sathyajit proves that there is more to life than just wealth. The book also unveiled the under world happenings in every businesses and it emphasises that Greed is the only reason behind every sins. Though some questions are unavoidable, the engrossing plot holds our interest more. The complete success of this book lies in withholding the secret till the end and giving us complete relief after the read. The usage of simple words and lucid language is appreciable.
The cover could have been better and the title of the book was catchy enough to attract readers. The blurb also gives a deep insight on the plot of the book.

Verdict :

A simple crime thriller which will always be close to heart.

Murderous Greed is written by Arun K Nair.

About the title and cover
The title is extremely "dangerous" we can say. It instantly drives our attention towards it and we become curious about the story and so is the cover, with the black and red colour dominating the cover, it gives a sense of something dangerous and mysterious. The font size is legible and makes an easy read.
Both justified the story well.

About the story and narration
It's the story of Inspector Satyajit who one morning has to face two murder cases at the same time in his otherwise calm town of Avadi.
Everything looked messy and confusing to him. Everything lead to nothing. He lost his sleep and then also he was unable to connect the dots. The cases involved lots of money and everything finally lead to one thing that is greed. Everyone wanted more and more, no one was satisfied with what they had.
This need for more caused the end of many lives.
Will Satyajit find the culprits or will they escape under his nose?
The story is well narrated and penned. In the end finally all the dots were able to connect beautifully.

My view
How greed and corruption is deeply rooted in our society and how it effects the lives of somany innocent people is shown in the book.
A nice book with nice narration and storyline. Easy language with a beauty of its own, is used. Loved how the author has presented it with everyone's view point. There are no loop holes and deviations in the plot so it flows smoothly. But it failed at one place that is to create that interest and curiosity to know who the murderer is? That who can be the culprit? Why was he or she doing this? So the author can concentrate here to increase the twists and turns involved in the story, otherwise the book is a nice read.

Blurb-
Early one morning in the township of Avadi, a woman who was on her way to attend a relative's wedding falls victim to a chain-snatcher and loses her life in the process. The very same morning, Karthik, an up and coming young businessman is found shot dead in his car in the middle of the road - the only witness to the incident being his employee Drishti who was in the car with him at the time. The responsibility of getting behind the root of both incidents falls on Inspector Satyajit, an intrepid and honest police officer, and his team who get cracking on both cases immediately. But as the investigation proceeds further, the incidents and the stories of those involved get increasingly confused and murkier. What illegal deals was Karthik involved in? Did these deals cause his untimely death? How is all this connected to the housewife who was killed the same morning? What is the part played by the mysterious Gun Club in all these events? Follow Satyajit as he attempts to uncover these dubious questions.
Review-
The Murderous Greed by Arun K. Nair is a thriller, crime based book which takes you on a thriller ride of suspense, murder and makes you experience a world of crime. A wonderfully narrated book with all required elements of a required novel in crime based genre. Being a die-hard fan of crime and series like Cid and NYPD, I suggest that the Author could have done it even more better. A proper plot with a descent story but what missed was that total attraction of a reader to complete it in a one go. Could have avoided the parts which were just added for expansion and limit. But the suspense the book created while reading was amazing. One can see the virtual imagination as a third person while reading the book and that’s the main thing every book needs. Creation of Imagination.
Book’s title is perfect as it goes and matches exactly the complete scenario of the story. Cover page itself is a mode of attraction for a reader to grab the book. So what’s the outcome and the end of the story according to the blurb? Grab this amazing book and unveil the suspense yourself as you go on an amazing ride in the world of crime.

The first thing that struck me about Murderous Greed was something I saw on the back cover. It was two, rolled dollar notes with smoking rising from them as if they were being used as cigarettes. But they weren’t really burning. This had me intrigued as this isn’t something you see on book covers.

The book starts at a good pace, with a lot of new characters being introduced and two murders within the first 10 pages, both seemingly unrelated. There seem to be a lot of protagonists in the story with some surprising characters at the end. The plot unfolds in a nice manner, with the reader being pulled deeper into the mystery of the two murders. We have a very honest police officer fighting against the corrupt system in order to close the cases.

The language used in the book could have been a tad less conversational and there were a few details that were unnecessary to the overall story that could have been omitted. The storyline is something fresh after the cliché of romance novels dished out one after the other from our regular crop of authors. One more thing that stood out to me about Murderous Greed is the fact that the blurb did not oversell or overhype it which is usually the strategy adopted for marketing. The book delivered what it promised and then some.

Crime thrillers are my favourite genre and I usually prefer foreign authors for it, however, Arun K Nair has not disappointed me with his debut. As every crime or mystery book goes, one tries to guess the culprit and it was the same case with this book and though I was able to partially predict the criminal, the ending took an unexpected twist and I loved it.

Some major wrongs that the author managed to avoid were the fact that there were no loose threads in the story which new authors usually tend to overlook and the fact that the ending did not seem unrealistic. The climax was something that you can expect happening in real life. The best part was that it was a sort of happy ending for all involved. However, this surprise turn in the story was introduced rather abruptly and could have been crafted better.

Nevertheless, Murderous Greed has made it to my list of ‘Debut Books by Indian Authors Worth Reading’. Being a debut author, Arun K Nair has much scope of improvement and I look forward to reading Greed Ends, which is a sequel to Murderous Greed.

A Nail-Biting Finish!

'Behind every great fortune there is a crime.' This quote from Mario Puzo's masterpiece could very well be related to the thrilling murder mystery- Murderous Greed by Arun K Nair.

As aptly described by the title, 'Greed' is at the centre of this whodunit plot. The story unfolds in the town of Adani, where two seemingly unrelated killings rattle the residents of this place. A woman was on her way to a wedding. She falls victims to a chain snatcher. Kartik, a budding businessman is found dead in his car. The lone witness was Drishti, who was his employee and happened to be in the car with him.

Inspector Satyajit is handed the responsibility of solving these two killings. It is only when Satyajit starts his investigation, does he come across many layers that start to peel off. Was Karthik's dubious business dealings his undoing? Was there something else than what meets the eye?

Just when Satyajit seems to get a hold of a direction in the investigation, he is thrown off trajectory with twists and turns. Did the notorious Gun Club have anything to do with the sinister crimes?

If unexpected twists and turns, a fast-paced storyline and a gripping tale of greed and underlying murkiness your idea of a crime thriller, this book has all the ingredients to keep you hooked. The reader is kept guessing of the killer till the very end and promises a nail-biting culmination.

The characters are well etched and language is simple yet lucid. If you are game for a thrilling adventure, 'Murderous Greed' is the perfect companion.

Murderous Greed is a crime thriller by Arun K Nair. The cover and title goes well with the plot. The characters of the story are so lively and easy to connect with. The author did a commendable job and there is a surprise waiting for readers in the end of the book. I recommend this book to all book lovers :)

It is difficult to write crime and thriller because maintaining interest of the readers is a big task. The pace of the story should not be extremely fast to make the events unclear and confusing to the readers. It should not be extremely slow otherwise the readers are bound to lose their interest. It should have a perfect amount of twists and turns otherwise the entire story will become twisted and confusing. I am glad that I picked up this book and it was a good attempt by the author.

The story is set up in a small town named Avadi in Chennai. The protagonist Satyajit has been well described and perfectly fits into the situations. Murderous scenes have been well brought into the plot and have been well explained. It is the greed that leads to everything in the book which has been portrayed well. The twists, turns, suspense & murders are just a result of greed.

The best thing about the book is its simple language. This makes it easy to read even for those who are not into a habit of reading. The only thing that I felt that the events moved quite fast at places otherwise the book was a good read.

The cover is appealing with a gun in hand. However, I felt that it could have been better. The title is perfect for the story as it is the greed that led to murders. If you are a fan of thriller and crime novels then you must read this book. If you are not a fan of this genre but want to read a book to kill your boredom then you can give a try to this one too.

Book Title and Cover-

“Murderous Greed” is a crime thriller heard from the title itself which generates the psychic of a psychological outruns. Mr Arun K Nair has thought of a great will and imagination to complete the crime thriller book and grabs the attention of the reader in the most amazing way. The cover of the book strains the brain storming in a peculiar way.

Review-

I am not going to reveal any of the chapters or scenes from the book because even a tenuous hint will create a spoiler. Just to verdict, readers who love the thrill and crime to read will surely enjoy word-to-word of the book. The suspense generated in the midway will want you to know what’s next, apart from the story and plot, narration made by the writer is not tedious but easy to understand the story but not so easy to get into the climax. Easy language sometimes make it a bore but here, it was a fun rearing.

Pace of the story isn’t quick to judge and the remarkable characters have succeeded the story. The story is well described and realistic in my opinion and the next important thing is the bold fonts in the book.

Overall, it was a good story and an amazing plot by the writer. Kudos in a much different way!

Avadi is a town situated in Chennai, which has not seen a tint of murder for years. This same township bears witness to double murders. First one is a housewife, Kanaga, headed to attend a family function while other is Karthik, young, handsome businessman. It is the responsibility of Inspector Satyajit to solve these murders and find the links in case of possible connections between the two. As Satyajit starts digging into these double murders, everything starts getting foggier. Will Satyajit be able to solve the mystery with limited clues and much larger, secret force in the cue? Read ‘Murderous Greed’ to find out.

The book sticks to the plot line right from line one and maintains the composure throughout only to reveal the truths towards the end. The plot intensifies as the story progresses with an introduction of various leads which the reader will not be able to guess the slightest.

Mysteries always make a great read as they keep you on your toes throughout the journey. If you are an avid reader of this genre, you will surely appreciate the plot of this book. Author Arun Nair plans on releasing the continuation of this book by 2018 giving us chance to see Inspector Satyajit back in action.
