Stunned by the shocking turn of events at the end Alex Jones' second novel, Faces, Dan Whitney joins forces with his old friend Anika Kristiansen, their new ally Angela Baranyi (the mysterious woman of many identities from Angela's Eyes), and the close friends they have made since Dan's arrival in California in Walls, to solve the puzzle of Francesca Capellini's disappearance.

At the same time, Francesca comes face to face with her Dan, Angela, and Anika's nemesis from Faces. Startled by the gradual realization that her abductor is both a psychologically unstable sexual predator, but is also a face from her distant abusive past, Francesca searches desperately for a way to escape from the isolated desert camp where she is being held hostage, and also searches for a way to escape from the ghosts of her own past. In the process, she manages to form a tenuous bond with her captor that enables her to piece together the events from the rest of the Trilogy (Walls, Faces, and Angela's Eyes).

While Francesca gradually makes sense of the complex web of events from her past, Dan rallies their mutual Anika, Angela, and their comrades from Chateau Eden. Together, they struggle against overwhelming odds and the unlimited resources of their powerful enemy in their race against time to rescue Francesca and reunite her with Dan.

Alex Jones is the author of The Identity Trilogy, a series of psychological thrillers packed full of romance and suspense, featuring psychologist Dan Whitney and the enigmatic Francesca Capellini. In his first two books, Walls (Trilogy Book #1) and Angela’s Eyes (Trilogy Prequel), Alex brought to light the issues of domestic and sexual abuse, especially by those in positions of power, a full five years before the “MeToo” movement came into existence! While the rest of the world was glamorizing BDSM in Fifty Shades of Grey, Alex painted a gritty, disturbing picture of the potential dark side to the BDSM lifestyle in Walls. In Faces (Trilogy Book #2), Alex focused on parental child abduction. Finally, in Spirits (Trilogy Book #3), he focused on the epidemic of military sexual abuse, years before rampant systemic sexual abuse (in the very highest ranks) was exposed in Canada’s Armed Forces. In his most recent book, The Night Class, Alex has tackled the issue of Indigenous Truth and Reconciliation, and the appalling lack of progress in that process to date.

Alex is not the conspiracy theorist from Texas, for those who may be wondering! Instead, he is a retired Clinical Psychologist who lives in Ontario, Canada. In his writing, Alex combines his understanding of human identity and personality, his passion for helping victims of trauma, abuse, and Post-traumatic Stress Disorder, and his love of reading fiction, to create a unique brand of psychological suspense and political commentary. His writing is rich in complex characters and controversial social issues, resulting in an abundance of internal and interpersonal conflict, dysfunction, and tension. Alex also enjoys spending time with his wife and grandchildren, as well as enjoying travel, photography, and brewing craft-beer that pairs perfectly with reading a great book.

When FBI agents arrive at the lavish Las Vegas home of psychologist Dan Whitney, they find local police and CSI technicians responding to an alleged abduction of Dan’s girlfriend, Francesca Capellini, during a housewarming party. It takes only a few moments for law enforcement to connect the dots: “Weren’t you the two who were involved in that kinky shooting a few months ago in Palm Desert?”

Spirits, the final chapter in Alex Jones’ Identity trilogy, continues to explore the sticky relationship between Dan, Francesca, Anika Kristiansen, Angela Baranyi and several others. As in the trilogy’s first two books, as well as an excellent prequel, Angela’s Eyes, Jones explores themes of sexual identity, attraction and BDSM, while adding the rather timely subject of systemic sexual harassment and abuse to the mix.

The trilogy’s physical landscape is greatly expanded in this final installment, with nearby Nellis Air Force Base serving as a pivotal location and symbol. It’s no spoiler to say that military misconduct is a major plot trigger, through which Jones drives a busload of white-knuckled scenes. Monster villain Soren Kristiansen, the product of unimaginably abusive foster homes, is also back to create more mayhem. The recent wave of real-life sexual allegations rocking news headlines over the past several months give additional meaning to every character and page.

If this all sounds too serious for erotic thriller fans, take heart – the book is decidedly naughty throughout, if not depraved (Jones’ seductress Teri: “I’m dying to see you boys suck each other off”). That’s not to say Spirits is all blush-inducing darkness. Auteur Jones deserves ample credit for somehow delivering a totally satisfying – and even optimistic – outcome for the characters he has so lovingly shepherded through his trilogy.

With that said, Spirits isn’t the ideal entry point for any newcomer to Jones’ world. Start with the razor-sharp thriller Walls, or the prequel, Angela’s Eyes.
