The Hitman #2

Taking Back Brooklyn

Rate this book
I’ve been dead two years now. Not a physical death, even though I’ve wished for it many times.
It would have been better than the heartache, which was far worse than the torture.
Nothing mattered anymore until I got a glimpse of light.
A picture of my life.
My heart.
My son.
Now getting back to them is my soul purpose, no matter what it takes or who I have to kill.
I will be tested, tried, and broken before I can get my family back, if I survive long enough.
Taking back what is mine, will be well worth the fight. Revenge on the man who took my life away will be sweet.
Taking back Brooklyn will be even better.

If you like bad boys and thrilling reads with an HEA, you will love this story.

This is a great sequel to Taking Down Brooklyn and definitely should only be read as a sequel for maximum enjoyment. I don't want to giveaway anything other than to say this book was loaded with suspense and plenty of romance as John and Brooklyn try to find their way back to one another. Love the scene at the buffet, that had me cracking up!

John has been presumed dead for two years now. During these years he's been tortured numerous times, because he won't give in to the demands of the man who has destroyed his life. One picture changes John's mind. He has found another reason to survive, his son. John vows to do whatever it takes to get back to the life he so desperately needs. He will find a way to be with Brooklyn and their beautiful son. Will John succeed to escape from his prison so he can be with his family once more?

Brooklyn held John when he died in her arms. She has been broken ever since. The day she found out that she was pregnant was a day full of emotion, because she believed John would never meet their son. John's brother Jake isn't leaving Brooklyn's side and he's taking care of her and her son. Brooklyn left the big city and is now living in Maui. Jake has a house nearby. In a drawer lies a long forgotten burner phone. The moment Jake switches on this phone his heart skips a beat, since it shows a message which might be from John. Jake and Brooklyn will leave nothing to chance and will not stop searching for John if there's even the slightest possibility that he's still alive. Can they outrun the danger that is coming for them?

John used to be a skilled hitman. He killed so many people, but his life changed the moment he met Brooklyn. She's the one who got through to him and I loved to read about how love changes him for the better. Even though John is a killer, he also has a soft side. These contrasts in his character made me love him instantly. Brooklyn is a smart and beautiful woman. She's the President's daughter so she knows what it's like to watch her step. She's funny, determined and fierce. I always love stories with a strong female main character. When John and Brooklyn are together you feel the chemistry fly off the pages. I was rooting for them to succeed in taking out the man who's after them and for John to build a relationship with his son.

When I read Taking Down Brooklyn I was instantly hooked. I devoured that story and was in tears when I read the ending. I was so excited when I found out that K.B. Andrews and Kelly Moore teamed up again to write a killer sequel. Taking Back Brooklyn is a fast-paced story filled with action and suspense. K.B. Andrews and Kelly Moore have found a writing style that works for both of them and that makes their story easy to follow. I've read several books written by K.B. Andrews and every book written by Kelly Moore and their stories are getting better and better. The way they manage to grab me from the very first page and pull me into the story almost feels effortless. I'm a big fan of both of them and will read every single book they will write in the future.

Taking Back Brooklyn is book 2 so you need to read Taking Down Brooklyn first!

The end of book 1 really threw me for a loop but I had a sneaky suspicion that everything wasn't as it seemed. Book 2 answered all of my questions and more! It is an action packed thrill ride that will leave you laughing, gasping and quickly turning the pages to see what happens next!

I can't wait to see what KB Andrews and Kelly Moore have for us next!

What a great ending to a perfect story!!
This is one of the best stories I've read in a while. Once I started, I couldn't put it down. It's action packed, with love, tears and more love.
The hard times John goes through just to get his family back truly shows just how much this man loves his family and how determined he is to be back with them. This man truly loves his family!!! The way Brooklyn handles John and her dad couldn't have been written any better. She holds her own and is very proud of her family, going to any lengths to protect them. I love the determination between John and Brooklyn to be together, no matter what anyone else says. The way things went down with Miles had me sitting on the edge of my couch, screaming, hoping he would get what he deserves.
This story ends with HEA!! a very HEA!! So if you haven't read this story yet, what are you waiting for? It's a great story!!!!

So happy that Brooklyn & John finally got their hea!
I loved the humor, it was a great contrast to the violence and action in the story. John on beef-flavored pain pills was hilarious!
I hope we get Jake’s story next and get to catch up with the whole group!

An amazing conclusion- one of my fav reads, I loved it ❤️

What an amazing sequel to Taking Down Brooklyn. I enjoyed Taking Down Brooklyn so much I read it again before feasting my eyes on Taking Back Brooklyn and it was a fabulous duet to read. This story is about John and Brooklyn’s future (don’t you love the names Kelly gives her characters). I literally started reading and couldn’t put it down. Parts were very intense especially the beginning when I read everything John had been through during his captivity for 2 yrs. My heart was breaking and pumping as I read how he finally escape to be with his family. Brooklyn’s grief for John was heart wrenching to read. She had no idea he was alive and taking every risk to get back to them. John’s brother, Jack tries to help and she is lucky to have her son by her side but she is suffers greatly. When they are finally reunited I needed a box of Kleenex. This is a couple you root for in spite of everything that happened, you know they must be together. This book is full of feel good moments, tears, laughs and some edge of your seat suspense. This duet is a pair that I will read again and again. Don’t hesitate - it is well worth the reader’s time and will quickly become a favourite read as it has with me. I voluntarily read an ARC of this book but bought a copy as well to have to read anytime.

Taking Back Brooklyn is the second book in this Duet. If you have read Taking Down Brooklyn then you will have a better understanding of where this book is coming from although I think it could be read as a stand alone it would be even morr amazing as a set. To his family, John has been dead two years. When in truth he has been held prisoner and tortured. His family threatened. He's only seen his son through a photograph and is being blackmailed in exchange for their lives. He will do anything for the people he loves, no matter the cost. No matter who He has to go through. He will do anything to Take Back Brooklyn.

Spoiler alert, if you haven’t read Taking Down Brooklyn first.

I thought Taking Down Brooklyn was good but Taking Back Brooklyn far surpassed it! I was so upset when John died in the end of TDB, that I ugly cried. I’ve never been happier to be tricked! To see it all unfold in this thrilling sequel was spectacular.
I won’t spoil the book and you’ll know what I’m talking about after you read this but, the scene after the vet and the motel scene had me laughing hysterically. Make no mistake, this is a 5 star read!

This is the second book in this series. I was very upset and surprised when John was killed off in the first book. Boy was I fooled to find out that he was alive and being tortured by Miles.
He goes through a lot to get his revenge and get back to Brooklyn and his son. I loved the scene with the vet and the pain pills. Brooklyn and John make a great team together.
It was a very well written story with a HEA.
I received a ARC of this book.

This book picks up right where the previous one left off and takes us on the same kind of high-speed action adventure. I have almost no words to adequately describe this book in a way that doesn’t land me squarely in the middle of spoiler territory. Suffice it to say, I loved this book and can’t wait to read the next one.

I was devastated by the ending of Deadly Cure so I have been anxiously awaiting for Dangerous Captive and it was well worth waiting for.

John has been in captivity for the last two years until his captors threaten the one thing that still has meaning to him which is his family and when that happens nothing will stop him from getting back to them and protecting them. Brooklyn has made a new life for herself and her son but she thinks of John every day and what should have been their life together.

A cryptic text message causes her and John’s brother Jack to question if John is alive but finding him is the easy part. Their journey to free themselves from their enemies is filled with suspense and twists and the love and chemistry between them is hotter than ever but this time will they be able to escape with their lives?

"Taking Back Brooklyn" is the sequel to "Taking Down Brooklyn", both of which are written by K.B. Andrews and Kelly Moore. I highly recommend reading the first installment before reading this one, as there is a lot of information in the first book that will help you to follow the plotlines of both stories.

"Taking Back Brooklyn" begins with John awakening from a sedated fog to find himself captive at the hands of Miles, his former employer. For two years, Miles has held John prisoner, waiting to use him yet again as a pawn in his wicked schemes. John was a hitman for Miles. Whenever Miles needed someone killed, he knew that John was the best person for the job. Ordinarily, John never had a problem taking out any of the targets that were presented to him. He did as he was told, never asking many questions. That all changed when John was ordered to take down Brooklyn, a woman who had developed a cure for cancer. She also happened to be the daughter of the president of the United States. Miles knew that the vaccine Brooklyn had created was worth a lot of money. Being able to cure cancer would potentially save the lives of millions of people all over the world. Doing so would also cost insurance, pharmaceutical, and medical companies a lot of money. Miles wanted Brooklyn taken down so that he could get his hands on the revolutionary drug, keeping all the power and money that went along with it to himself.

John never expected to fall in love with Brooklyn, but when he did, he knew that she was the woman that he wanted to spend the rest of his life with. The only reason that he never tried to escape was that Miles threatened Brooklyn, their son, "Little John", and his twin brother, Jake. When everyone thought John was killed, Jake stepped in and helped to raise Little John.
After two years, Miles takes on new hits, hits he now pawns off on John. John wants to refuse, but he accepts them in order to protect Brooklyn, Little John, and Jake. Little does Miles know, but John has a plan up his sleeve, one that involves taking back everything that was stolen from him.

When I finished reading "Taking Down Brooklyn", I was absolutely gutted. I hated (in a good way) how the story ended, but I had no idea how Kelly Moore and K.B. Andrews would be able to continue with "Taking Back Brooklyn". To make things short, let's just say I can't believe that I ever doubted that those two could pull this off! "Taking Back Brooklyn" was even more gut-wrenching and action packed than the first book. There was a bit of a slow spot at the beginning while I tried to rememeber everything that happened in the first book, but after that, it was a non-stop reading frenzy to figure out how all the loose ends would be tied together. Get your tissues and a fan ready. You'll go from crying your eyes out one second to feeling the heat from the passionate scenes the next!

This sequel to Taking Down Brooklyn was one that I have waiting for a long time for and one I would have given my right arm to. Luckily I got to keep my right arm and I would give both my arms to keep reading about John and Brooklyn and their future. I know I could never tire reading about these two.
The resurrection of John and everything he has gone through during his 2 years of captivity had me on the edge of my seat, biting my fingernails to see how he would escape and break free to be with his family.
Brooklyn is still mourning the loss of John and is trying to move forward, luckily she has her son and John’s brother, Jack to help her through the tough times.
Taking Back Brooklyn is one of those reads that I will read again and again as I can’t get enough of these two and this sequel...WOW.
Kelly Moore and K.B. Andrews couldn’t have written a better story, it’s filled with action, suspense, heartache and heartbreak, a tear jerking reunion, scenes that had me on edge, scenes that made me laugh out loud, scenes that had tears streaming down my face and running out of tissues, steamy but also sensual scenes that made my toes curl and spine tingle.
I LOVED John and Brooklyn in the first book and I LOVE them more in this one, if possible. His planning and strategizing to get back to Brooklyn, the risks he takes and the love he has for his family along with both staying true to one another during the separation...sigh...swoon.
This is one of those reads where the hero and the heroine are both my favourites, no choosing necessary as they are both kick butt characters, along with story being kick butt, the plot kick butt, the writing kick butt, the authors being kick butt...all of it KICK BUTT.
I could go on and on and on about this read but I could never give it the due justice it deserves and I can easily admit that Taking Back Brooklyn is my #1 of all time reads and John and Brooklyn are my #1 couple of all time...hands down...no question...never to be knocked out of first place...EVER.

Brilliant Story & Sequel 🎧📚🎧 Twists, Action & Thrilling Suspense!

Dangerous Captive
DC Series, Book Two
By: Kelly Moore
Narrated by: Seth Thompson

This book is amazing with some awesome twists, action and thrilling suspense. Kelly Moore continues to bring it in her sequel to “Deadly Cures” a fantastic romantic suspense. She is a gifted author and I thought she outdone herself with that book, I was wrong this one is even better, ok, maybe just as great but I love, love, loved John Remington’s resurrection. Miles is evil, he is still pissed John double crossed him but he is not done with John yet, he masterminded his death specifically for those plans. Miles tries to break him but he does not give in, not until they threaten to harm Brooklyn and his family. Holy moly what that man endures is beyond amazing, his strong will and determination keeps him going and once Miles thinks he is on board he just bides his time and in his head he is plotting his revenge. But Miles is not stupid and nothing comes easy. This book is one action packed rollercoaster ride, you can not help but root for John and feel his pain for all he has been through and what he needs to do. I loved that Jake understood his cryptic message and followed his gut instincts, also loved that Brook was never able to move on from John. This book captivated me from start to end, it brought me to the edge of my seat numerous times, had my head spinning and my heart thumping. I highly recommend this series, it is entertaining and enjoyable with some mind-blowing action and romantic suspense. Kelly Moore thank you for this awesome series, I appreciate the versatility of your writing skills and ability to master more than one genre.

I listened to the Audible edition, Seth Thompson continues to bring these characters and their story to life. He does a great job portraying the characters and humanizing them, capturing their emotions and projecting them into his performance. He is an entertaining storyteller and a pleasure to listen to. Thank you for another great listen🎧

I’m struggling how to write this review without spoilers! But let’s just say that Brooklyn finds Jake’s old burner phone in a drawer, a phone that only John had the number – and most exciting of all, Jake gets a text that says “Stand By Me.” After Jake assumes the text is from John, who is supposed to be dead, a wild ride begins of bringing down Miles, saving the President, and finding out what really happened to John.

I did beta-reading of this sequel, read the final drafts before editing, and have re-read this novel again. The biggest things that I love SO MUCH about Taking Back Brooklyn are:

it’s completely action-packed
it’s funny (especially the buffet and chocolate fountain)
hot, steamy romance mixed with sweet emotion
Kelly and K.B. have managed to wow me with all of these amazing elements and much more in not just one book, but two. And once again, the writing is so completely flawless that it’s impossible to figure out who was writing which parts because everything flows together so seamlessly. Although the characters are not new, the development of the characters just deepened in this follow-up, making them feel even more real and familiar than before.

Another unique quality about this book (and the first one) is that it truly cannot be categorized as a romance book or a “girly” book or a “guy’s” book. The suspense and drama built into the plot, the assassins and crime, and the romance of the novel would appeal to most any reader. It’s not just crime and killing, yet it’s not just a sweet love story – but is just so much more.

There are not enough words to construe my praise of Taking Back Brooklyn and I highly recommend that this one goes to the top of your TBR list. Kudos to Kelly and K.B. for once again creating something so exciting, addictive, and unique among so many other novels published today.

*Many thanks to K.B. Andrews and Kelly Moore for providing this ARC in exchange for my honest review!

So Good!

I must admit, even though I loved the first book, “Taking Down Brooklyn”, I was a little bothered by the time I reached the end of that book. Ok, I was a lot bothered. Then I learned that there would be a second book and I felt optimistic.

I couldn’t read this book fast enough. This story drew me in immediately. It is a nice fast-paced read with no lagging or boring sections to slow down the action. If anyone could feel bad for a hired killer, it was John that needed the sympathy. As you were reading, in your head you were encouraging him to get it together and escape his situation, find his family and redeem himself!

I love how this story plays out. There are a few angsty moments that fiddle with the reader’s emotions, but then our patience is greatly rewarded each time. This story is very well written. The authors find just the right details to make every fine-tuned point. This makes the story so intriguing and it sucks you in and keeps you there. I even thought about this book during my day and evening which made me anxious to get back to the story!

This story is mostly about John and Brooklyn getting back together for their HEA and of course, they do, but that journey is packed full of action, adventure, a lot of danger and some silly stuff. It also has the hot-as-sin sexy stuff we expect.

I loved this book! These two authors are amazing, and I wouldn’t hesitate to read another book that they co-write! Fantastic job!

Kelly Moore outdoes herself with the next installment to her DC series. Dangerous Captive encompasses a little of all the features i absolutely love in a book. It has romance, suspense, danger, uncertainty, unpredictability and an few twists that just kept me on edge the entire listen. Two years have gone by. Brook and Jake have made a new life without John, only to find out somehow he has survived. While overjoyed, the danger of Myles is still lurking. And he will have no problem killing those that John loves to seek his revenge. Will John ever be free? Moore continues to bring new and innovative ideas to her stories. This one has some interesting technological inventions that really put a twist into life as we know it. The characters are fantastic. Brook is still the feisty redhead, loves fiercely and will do anything to keep her family safe. John is the protective, brave man, the one we all love, but I also found Jake to be one to watch as well. And Myles continues his hate trail, and it's so easy to just want him to be caught. He is a slippery fellow though and he proves to be a masterful adversary. Love this story, love the action, the suspense and the passion. A fantastic listen!

Seth Thompson continues his narration, and I really enjoyed his performance in this book. He definitely hit his stride, marking each character and made them his own. The inflections increased the tension and he gave the story a feeling of romantic suspense.

Taking Back Brooklyn is the second book in the series.

I enjoyed this second book more as I knew what to expect, so the fact that some of the storyline was a little far fetched didn’t bother me as much as it did in the first book.

The instant surprise twist was great - John’s still alive. I’m glad as I particularly enjoyed John and Brooklyn’s chemistry in the first book. This time around their all encompassing love was more realistic and all the heat from book one is still present.

Again this was paced really well and I flew through the pages. So much happens that you don’t have time to catch your breath before you’re into the next action packed moment.

The writing style of both authors are well suited to each other and for me, merge together seamlessly. I had no idea where one left off and the other picked up.

Again another overall fun and action packed read. Yes some of the storyline is unrealistic but it’s a work of fiction so I’m ok with that.
I’m looking forward now to reading Jake’s story in the next book.

3.5 stars ⭐️

Thank you to the authors for providing a copy. All opinions are my own and provided willingly.

I literally Inhaled this book in <24 hrs!!

Reader Advice: Read this series. Read this AMAZING series. Read this AMAZING series In Order.

Wow. I read this story within 24 hours of reading the first in the series (Taking Down Brooklyn). Edge-of-your-seat action, tension and emotions will keep you tied to your kindle (or preferred reading method).

John has been declared dead… except Miles his assassin handler has actually kept him locked up and tortured for two years. He must agree to return to work to be “free”. Except Miles does not keep his promises. As John works to gain his freedom he is assigned an “impossible” target.

Meanwhile Brooklyn has given birth to his son…. and Uncle Jake has helped raise him. Can John finally escape, is there a place back with his family and can he remove the dangers that escalates in this thrilling story?!?

Completely captivating read with all aspects that create a must-read story!!

I thought Taking Down Brooklyn was the best book I'd read in a good long while, but Taking Back Brooklyn was even better!

An intense story that will have you on the edge of your seat from beginning to end, you won't be able to put it down. Drama, anger, revenge, humor, passion and so much more make for an incredibly gripping story. And the characters are amazing as well. Be careful, tho, you will get so caught up in the story that you will laugh and cry right along with them. I am not sure I have ever literally LOL while reading a book, but this one I did at one particular scene (I will never see or think of Minion's again an not LOL) and it was seriously 3AM!

You should definitely read Taking Down Brooklyn (book 1 of this set) before reading this one. It will make this story make so much more sense and give you much needed background to see how they got where they are and how hard won their HEA is.

I loved "Taking Back Brooklyn" just as much if not more then the first book in this series. Kelly Moore and K.B. Andrews are a perfect writing twosome. You would never guess that this series is the first these who creative women had ever set out to write together.
When I finished reading "Taking Down Brooklyn", I was puzzled on how these ladies were going to come up with a second book. They killed off the main character and the bad guy was still alive at the end of the first book.

Taking Back Brooklyn was a suspenseful, page turner. It had me on the edge of my seat from the very first page. I had an extremely hard time putting it down and was finished with it in no time at all. There was just as much action in it as the first book had, but more hot, steamy sex scenes in the second book. It had a perfect ending and couldn't of turned out better.

Wow, this was so good. I was so upset when I thought John died in the first book. I am so glad to see him alive. That awful, greedy man Miles has kept him prisoner for two years and tortured him. His greatest torture is showing John a picture of Brooklyn with his son. He had no idea she was even pregnant. We get to see what Miles is trying to get John to do and how John tries to get away.

This book was so exciting, and I didn’t want to put it down once I started it. I love books that have intrigue, action, and romance together, and this book had it all and more. If you read the first book, you have to read this book to see what happens. I strongly encourage you to read this book. I voluntarily read an Advanced Reader’s Copy of this book.

After watching John get shot and die before her eyes, Brooklyn and Jake move to Hawaii. Two years have passed and John is alive but being held captive by that psychopath Miles. Just when she was letting go of John, he sends a message to Jake's burner phone. She doesn't know what to believe until Jake receives another message and they are Chicago bound. John doesn't want to kill again but makes a deal with Miles to get back to his family......until he finds out what the big hit is. Not willing to jeopardize his family and vowing to keep them safe Brooklyn, Jake and John set out to destroy Miles. Will they be able to get rid of Miles and be a happy family? Absolutely loved this one. Jake needs a story now hint hint

When you lose your soulmate in tragic events, you can either let it destroy you or use his memory to keep on living.
Brooklyn lost the love of her life. She saved millions of people with her cure for cancer but she couldn’t save the one she wanted most; John.
Jake lost his twin brother, he misses him and has a promise made to John, he steps up to help raise is nephew and protect Brooklyn.
What will happen when their lives gets turn upside down after 2 years of mourning is unbelievable.
This story is an awesome continuity to Taking down Brooklyn; it’s all about fighting for those you love and what you’ll be willing to do in order to keep them safe. Sometimes you need to step on your conscience to save those you care about.

A well written continuation of drama, with love, intrigue, action, heartache, suspense, and above all else a tear jerking reunion. The plot is very fast paced, with twists and turns captivating you and keeping you on the edge of your seat. It not only brings you tears of heartache but scenes that cause you to laugh out loud from page to page.  I loved the sensual scenes with chemistry sizzling all the way down to my toes.  How they stayed true to each other was just heartwarming. It couldn't of been done better showing the love John has for his family with the risks he takes and the way he planned and strategized to get back to them and most of all Brooklyn just brought the tears. I can't wait for more.  I voluntarily reviewed this ARC.
