David McGowan was born in Liverpool, in the United Kingdom.
He is the author of gritty urban crime fiction. The Alan Whitby Thriller series is new for 2026 and follows a detective who moves from village life to Liverpool to take up a role as a detective constable in the Homicide Investigation Team.
He is also the author of the epic alien invasion science fiction trilogy, From the Sky, an epic tale of the pilgrimage of a small group of survivors who survive an alien invasion and must go on a mission to the most famous top secret base of them all.
Two Miles Down is a dystopian tale of survival in a futuristic underground prison, following the lives of two prisoners, one of them a wrongly convicted fifteen-year-old child.
Our survivors from the first book are making their escape from the alien ships which have caused the disappearance of their families and the occupants of their town. Tucker, the young boy, seems to have some connection to the aliens and talks as though he can see some future events. The two groups end up together through alien intervention.
I found this an intriguing interpretation of alien visitation and intervention. I like the interaction between the characters who, in many cases, had deep feeling for one another, but in others cases great antipathy. Watching this play out was a great deal of the enjoyment for me. As this was part two of a three part story there was no final resolution. I tend not to like an unresolved ending, so for this reason, I look forward to reading the last episode which I hope won’t be long in coming.
Another amazing book, loved that it started off exactly where the first one finished. I hope the final installment is out soon as I can't wait to read it. Best alien invasion series I have read.
