The Yokohama Disturbance Arc is a bit of a weird one in many ways. Of the first major arcs of the story, this is the one with the most action in it, so it's unsurprising that this is the final part of the first anime series. (The second series, reportedly in development for release next year, moves on to the Visitors Arc. No idea where the film came from as I haven't seen it yet.) Part 2 of the Yokohama Disturbance is where the majority of the action takes place and it certainly is fairly action-packed. This book keeps you reading as you follow a couple of threads through what amounts to an enemy invasion of Yokohama and how the various characters react to being caught in the middle of it. We finally learn how badass Mayumi can be when she's let off the leash. The same goes, in a far more literal sense, for Tatsuya and Miyuki. And we finally get to see how incredibly OP the magic is in this world, given the right circumstances (though the numbers are a bit off and I suspect the effects are a little overplayed).

Basically, this is the payoff for all the previous books. Just about all the major and secondary characters get a moment in the sun. Even Asuza Nakajo, now the loli student president, finally reveals what her personal magic can do and that she isn't just a wimp. The explanation of just what Tatsuya does to heal damage is just as dramatic in the book as it was in the anime, but you also get to find out what Sayaka Mibu was doing in the battle (never really explained in the anime), what Leo's special sword move really is, and why Erika has a katana twice her size which seems to move in some very odd ways.

This marks the end of what's been animated. everything from here is new. Should be interesting.

Haven't had wi-fi when I was reading it, and now it's been too long and can't remember particulars so my star rating will have to do.

I enjoy the series and I actually saw the anime first which is why I started reading the series. The book series is creative, the translation into English is so-so (there are sentences that don't make sense). I would say Tsutomu Satou does seem to be slightly sexist and does seem to try and appeal to boys (and possible not their super mature side) so if you don't like that in a book then don't read his stuff. He does portray women as weak and in need of saving, and not as strong as guys and spends time discussing how delicate they are (when not discussing the clothing they are wearing in detail). If you can get through that aspect his books are creative and the world he has created is cool. Also if you are weirded out by weird sibling love (felt by the sister and not the brother) then you might not want to read this.

Of all the volumes in this series, this one doesn't quite stand up to the rest in the series. It's still way better than most light novels I've read but it just didn't blow me away like some of the others have. At times it felt like he was trying to focus on all the characters and showing all the points of view that it ended up jumping around way to much. I love his ability to make any character the focal point at anytime, this one however moved around so much that you never really got the chance to get invested. Regardless Satou-Sensei is amazing with how he writes 3rd party narrative and I can't wait for volume 8.

The action part of the series in which Tatsuya and his friends end up in the middle of a true battle between the Japanese military and a group of raiders from the Asian Alliance and we get to see some extreme magic indeed. It makes me curious how Tatsuya's friends react in the next volumes since they learn a few of his and his sisters secrets (and in the process so does the reader) and we also get to see hints towards a hidden villain. All in all, definitely my favorite light novel series and if the author sticks to his promise in an earlier afterword, it will remain so in the future as well. Looking forward to the next parts.

Great Arc Finale.

Great plot, the story is engaging and action pack from beginning to end. But the best point on this serie is the characters. Each character is beautifully build, describe and with interesting personalities. Each one complementing others, something hard to find in this genre. Just reading about each one is really enjoyable and is the main point that keep me reading this series.

A few things not in the Anime

Thankfully, this book cleared up some of my confusion from the anime. A lot more background without significantly deviating from the show. I read this before on Baka Tsuki. But, it's good to read an official translation although the BT version was very good as well. I'm looking forward to the next volume.

With this book we've now reached the end of the anime's progression. I'm looking forward to seeing new content from the series.

This one was so good I finished it in one night. The actions are splitted into routes but they flow together very well. Mayumi and Miyuki still rock it!

One giant awesome action scene. Lots going on and at times hard to keep track of what's where, but wasn't too confusing. Tatsuya totally OP.

It's war without being a war. And we now know a little of how his "healing" works...a little bit anyways.
