Keeping Dominic

Rate this book
No one finds their soulmate at first glance.

Dominic Torres did though. From the second he saw his best friend’s little sister, he knew she was the one for him. Fast forward three years and now she’s his best friend and she has him firmly in the friend zone. He’s convinced he’ll never have the college romance his parents had.

Until the day it almost happened.

Brooke Caldwell’s life fell apart two days after her tall, dark and handsome best friend almost kissed her. A split second of hesitation made her question her entire relationship with her best friend. You wouldn’t think that a kiss that didn’t even happen would make her question her feelings as much as it did. But all of Brooke’s friends had said he had a thing for her.

Unrequited love or a figment of her imagination?

When an argument gets out of hand, Brooke and Dom hit a breaking point that has both of them scrambling into new relationships. Even pissed off and broken, neither of them can ignore the other for long. From best friends to lovers, one night could change everything.

I have loved the books I’ve read by Alyson Reynolds and I have a few on my kindle that are waiting for me to finally read them. Her writing is amazing. Her stories (the ones I’ve read) are emotional, beautiful, romantic and refreshing. When the author released this new adult college romance, I couldn’t one-click fast enough and I didn’t even read the blurb.

Brooke and Dominic have been best friends from the moment they met. Brooke had a little crush on Dominic in the beginning, but that went away quickly. But what she doesn’t know, is that Dominic has always wanted to be more than friends. Dominic didn’t want to ruin their friendship, so he never said anything. One day, he tells Brooke about his feelings and her reaction isn’t what he wanted. Not long after that, Brooke and Dominic and their friends go on vacation together. They try to avoid each other, but they can’t do that forever. They eventually grow closer again.

I loved Dominic and he was my favorite of this novel. He’s kind, smart, caring and genuine. He studies very hard because he wants to have his dream job, but he always makes time for Brooke and his friends. I felt for Dominic when Brooke didn’t want him like he wants her. I understand why he moved on, but he maybe did it a little too quickly. You don’t go for wanting someone desperately to loving someone else.

Brooke wasn’t so easy to like. She is kind, loving and feisty. She’s very close to her friends and she loves spending time with them. Brooke is conflicted about her feelings for Dominic. Her friendship with him means very much to her. I just don’t understand why Brooke kept pushing away Dominic until nearly the end.

Keeping Dominic was emotional and beautiful. The beginning was very promising and I was over the moon when I realized it will be a friends to lovers romance. But one character changed his mind too quickly and another character frustrated me sometimes. It also seemed like the only thing they did on vacation (and even at home) was drinking. I wish I liked Keeping Dominic more, but I’ll still read the next books in the Golden Boy series. I really liked the secondary characters.

My #1 reason for giving this book a 5 star review is that it has a full story line, which was very well written. It was NOT page after page of descriptive sex. The Prologue had me on the edge of my seat, as I waited thru several chapters for the shoe to drop. It was those several chapters that I laughed, I grit my teeth, I got mad, I wanted to yell at a lead character to get their act together, and I smiled, still while waiting on that shoe to drop. I loved the main characters, Brooke and Dominic, but I also loved Brooke’s brother/Dominic’s best friend, Josh, and the rest of their (conniving) friends! This was a great start to what will be an enjoyable “Golden Boy Series”! Alyson Reynolds was a new to me author! I’ll be watching for more from her!

There are not enough words in the English dictionary to describe my love for this book! I just, omg!!! Dom and Brooke are stuck in my heart!! I’m basically speechless. And not only did I love Brooke and Dom but company too!! Josh and Riley, Drew, Jared, Quinn, and Caroline have slipped into my heart!!

First of all, Dom..... he is perfection!!! He’s the very thing you want a guy to be. Sweet, your best friend, Sexy, pure heart, and just I can’t fish enough. He’s perfect basically!!

Brooke, she’s a sweetie and she’s got a heart of gold. She’s sassy and sweet, but just omg amazing! And she’s the perfect match for Dom..... even if it takes forever for these two to clue in!!! Don’t get me wrong, I love them but sometimes I wanted to reach through the book and bang their stinking heads together!! But when it really counts is when Hess two are there for each other the most.

I just, I don’t even know what else to really say without giving anything away. But know my heart is full and I won’t forget these characters for a long time to come. I can’t wait for more because I can’t wait for more of these amazing and special characters!! ❤️

It's been a while since I had a book from this author and of course I was anxious for it. This lady has a special place in my heart but don't think that I'm giving her credit just for that. No sir. She's amazing and her writing has been improving with every new book.
Alyson Reynolds has a sweet and simple writing, full of feelings, details and pretty hot stuff. She knows what she's doing and she's getting better by the minute.
Keeping Dominic is her latest release and it's the first book from the Golden Boy Series.
This book tells the stories of Dominic and Brooke.
Dominic has a gift. He loves to sketch, once he set is mind on something or he's nervous he turn to his sketch books and just lost himself.
He's having feelings for Brooke but he can't persue it. First of all she's his best friend little sister and next he doesn't want to jeopardize their friendship.
Brooke had a degree but something was missing so she went back to school. She's a funny girl that is still finding her true calling. Her best friend is Dominic but something is happening. She's having feelings for him but how can she tell him without ruining their friendship.
And now what? Will they keep denying their feelings? Can an almost kiss change everything for them?
Sweet baby Jesus... What a book. It's a breath of fresh air that hit me because I've been reading some pretty dark books.
The plot is superb, intense, breathtaking and super engaging. The book is very well written and the ups and downs gave it the smooth touch it needed.
The interation between the characters is beautiful, raw and can they be even more stubborn? Jesus! These two hook me up from the beginning because the bond that they had was so strong.
Like I said before the ups and downs were there and one minute things were going one way and the next the author changed everything. I wanted to enter the book and slap someone super hard. Dayum... Let's not forget that we have some sweet and wild hot scenes in here to. I loved everything. The ups, the downs, the bad, the ugly, the friendship... All of it.
Can love be stronger than friendship? Can you still be friends after all it's over?
I can say that this book is one of my favorite reading for 2018.
Oh Alyson... You're amazing. Your writing has improved so much and I'm so happy for the chance to read your work. You my dear are an amazing author that everyone should know and follow, and you deserve all the success in the world.
Now let's get down to business... Where's the next book? Will it take to long to get? I need to know more... More...

This was my first Alyson Reynolds book and I found myself to be an emotional wreck long after I finished it. Not because I was crying tears, no, I was still mad as hell at Dominic! That's how talented her writing style was, because I was completely transported into this story from start to finish, and even beyond that. See, Brooke & Dominic have been best friends for years, while both have been secretly in love with the other. Although, neither have been brave enough to confess that fact. Brooke, because she was trying to be friends with a guy, and Dom, because he thought she didn't have feelings for him. So when they got into a fight, both started dating other people, and both were miserable. And that's all that I'm going to say about that. Now I know that Brooke had some issues that needed to be addressed, and at times, I wanted to shake her because of her flight risk tendencies, but let me clear, I was #TEAMBROOKE ALL THE WAY! And Dom, I wanted to absolutely junk punch him until he cried for him mama. He made douche decisions right & left that still have me mad as hell, and I haven't forgiven him at all! I may be in the minority, but #sorrynotsorry. Not to mention, some of the secondaries, although entertaining, they added in to his douchey decisions, so I want to throat punch them as well, while others were great, but all added more to the story whether it be drama or depth. And besides that anger I felt, it also provided some angst, as I could physically feel Brooke's pain like it was my own, and for the cherry on top of this great story, there was a huge twist that let me drop huge f-bombs! And that folks, is why this author is now added to my addiction list as I CANNOT WAIT for the next book in this series! HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND TO ALL!

My goodness! Keeping Dominic is one incredible read. It's angsty, romantic... steamy and so so sexy. It is the perfect coming of age story. Dominic Torres and Brooke Caldwell's tale of best friends to lovers is weaved with laughter, tears, miscommunications and a love deeply rooted in a friendship that as withstood the peaks and valleys of young first love.

It doesn't hurt that Dominic is not only this dark haired, beautiful guy with a terrific body. He also is talented, devoted and so fiercely loyal to Brooke. He supports her unconditionally and loved her almost immediately. When Brooke makes the decision to keep their relationship completely platonic, he manages to hide his feelings... until he simply can't. Brooke may not have suspected what his true feelings for her were, she had to have some inkling of an idea. One moment between them changes everything and nothing is the same afterwards.

There were moments in this book that were simply painful and heartbreaking. There were moments that I wanted to scream and throttle these two. They put my heart through the craziest emotion filled roller coaster ride and almost caused me to throw my brand new kindle across the room. Their connection is so solid and the chemistry and steam between these two is something amazing. Talk about an alpha? Dominic has it all in spades!

Alyson wrote a story that tackles some tough issues and demonstrates her growing talent of taking us into a story filled with what every romance reader wants - to be enthralled with the characters from beginning to end and leave us sighing, smiling and desperate to have more. Best friends to lovers doesn't get any better than this! Truly fantastic, Alyson! Well done!

Keeping Dominic was such an emotional book for me! The way this was written was absolutely perfect! The characters, the descriptions of the events, the bantar, the emotional turmoil...sigh...FANTASTIC!!!

When Brooke has feelings for her brother's friend, she knew he was off limits...
When Dominic has feelings for his friend's sister, he knew she was off limits...
They each find a relationship with another person, and think it will be the right way to supress their feelings for the other, but will that actually be best for them? They live next door to each other along with several of their friends and it makes things complicated. After they finally open up to the idea of a relationship (with Josh's permission) will an accident take it all away from them?

I cannot wait for Educating Liam...the next book in The Golden Boy Series!!! <3

I really enjoyed this story. I have a soft spot of those unrequited love, friends to lovers type stories. Alyson is also a new author for me, and because I enjoyed this story, I will go back an read her other books. I’m sure I will be able to find more gems amongst her work.

I loved Dominic’s character in this book. He was so strong, so caring, everything a women swoons for. I definitely swooned a bit. I didn’t really agree with how he was made to feel in the book however. I felt so frustrated for him.
Brooke was a good female lead, but she made me so incredibly frustrated. She changed her mind so much. She made herself believe things that weren’t true and never let anyone explain themselves. I get that she is a relatable character, (maybe she frustrated me cause I am a little like this too haha), but it still annoyed me cause I loved Dom so much!

The story itself was great. It set a good pace and was filled with lots of tension. I could feel their want, and need for each other. I liked the secondary characters, and I actually really hope that Drew will be getting a story because I need that story in my life! I feared up towards the end of this book, I just couldn’t help myself. I really enjoyed this read and can’t wait for the next book in the series!

"This was such an easy book to read. I felt myself devour page after page, and I would have kept going until I finished the book all except for that pesky thing called work the next day.
My favourite character in this book was Dominic. He is the type of man we all wish our own daughters will find for themselves. He is a genuine man with a beautiful heart.
I liked Brooke as well, but there were times I just wanted to shake her and tell her to wake up to herself. She was so lucky to have found Dominic in the first place, and she was ruining it by overthinking things, which innturn made her overreact.
I can't believe this is my first book by this author, and I will gladly go and read everything she has written previously.

Loved this book so much!!! The friends to lovers, the slow but hot buildup and the angst all ending off with the best kind of love. Add in romantic and sexy with a side of playful banter and your heart up in your throat moments and you’ve got this book.

Big five stars from me .

Who doesn't love a sweet although quite angsty friends to lovers story!?
Dominic is in love with his best friend Brooke and thinks he has been keeping his secret well hidden....from nobody but Brooke that is!
The back and forth between these two drove me crazy! Dom did everything right and Brooke just kept running away! Man I wanted to grab her and say LISTEN!!
Not gonna lie...I shed a tear or two for these two people. I needed them to be together. Dom was just the right mixture of sweet, sexy and just a bit alpha.
Plus, the secondary characters were so fun!
I cannot wait to see what happens next.....

Where to start? This was my first Alyson Reynolds book and I'm so glad to have been able to experience her writing. Dominic and Brooke had me on an emotional rollercoaster, in a good way, and I loved how relatable they and their group of friends were. I can't wait to read more from Ms Reynolds in the future.

Angsty young adult romance.

Brooke and Dom are best friends. Dom is hiding his deeper feelings from Brooke but no one else is buying it. Brooke thinks she wants another friend, Austin, but an almost kiss with Dom has her questioning herself. What happens? Well you need to read to see but some tumultuous events and conversations making you want to reach through your kindle and slap some sense into them.

Don’t worry. The sexy times come and WOW!

All in all a good college aged romance romance with all the drama of that time.

Keeping Dominic by Alyson Reynolds is the perfect book to read if you like angst, frustration, and spicy sex scenes!

Dominic and Brooke have been best friends for a long time. They both have feelings for each other, but neither of them knows how the other feels. The story focuses on their push and pull for each other, and them trying to figure out what their relationship means to each other.

This book left me wanting to rip my hair out, but at the same time I HAD to keep turning the pages to find out what was going to happen! Overall, this was a great read!!!

Dominic Torres is one hot Pre-Med student. For my first read from Alyson Reynolds, I absolutely fell in love with the characters. Dominic and Brooke are the perfect example of best friends who love each other and their large group of friends and just need to admit their feelings. I’m eager to see who’s next in the series.

If you want some perfect angsty college romance, then Keeping Dominic is just the book for you. There is a roller coaster of emotions throughout this story as Brooke and Dominic navigate being best friends to lovers. There were moments I really wanted to smack Brooke. Not gonna lie. She was so blind to what was in front of her even though everyone else knew. Dominic is one patient man. But when you feel a love as strong as he does, I can’t say I blame him. There were moments of sizzling passion but also moments that were heartbreaking. There is a massive push and pull between these two. It really does keep you on your toes.
Overall, I found this a great read. I couldn’t put it down and devoured it in one sitting. There was just something about Dominic that was utterly sinful but also sweet. Brooke is a fighter at least and she does redeem herself!

3.5 STARS!!
Keeping Dominic was a good romance read filled with a lot of angst. It was funny, steamy, frustrating and had me anticipating what was going to happen next. I was hooked from the very beginning of the story and I honestly finished this book in one sitting. I enjoyed the characters and the friendships they had with each other. Brooke, Riley, Caroline, Quinn, Dominic, Jared, Joshua, Drew and at times Austin will have you feeling some type of way. The thing that stopped this book from being a five star read for me was that there was entirely too much back and forth between Brooke and Dom. Just when I felt as if things were going down the right path, Brooke's actions would be so childish and uncalled for that I was like, darn this again. Come on.... just let things go and move on. Some of the things that happened between them felt unnecessary. However, the ending was one I enjoyed and I do look forward to reading more books in the future from this author.

I don’t think I have ever been more frustrated with fictional characters in my entire life. Let me back up a step and say, this book is phenomenal. It truly is. And I was seriously THAT invested in these characters that I mumbled and grumbled in frustration several times. Okay, that’s a lie. I grumbled at least 10 times. But thank you Jesus for the HEA.
Story Line: Brooke and Dominic are best friends. Yep. Two heterosexual people of the opposite sex are best friends. Because that never works. Just ask her brother Josh his feelings on the subject. Clearly you can’t, because he’s fictional. But you know what I mean. I honestly laughed the first time Dominic referred to Brooke as his best friend. I laughed because that’s exactly what my now husband would tell people before we became “official”. When people would ask what was going on with his he would tell them that I was his best friend. Most irritating sentence on the face of the planet, if you ask me. So I pretty much knew either one of both of them would develop feelings for the other.
Disclaimer: Do not for any reason skip the prologue. And while you’re at it, do not forget what you read in the prologue. I found myself trying to read as fast as I could just so I could find out what the heck happened and under what circumstances.
Interaction: Here’s where my frustration came in. At the beginning, Brooke and Dom have a seamless friendship. It’s touchy feely and borderline flirty but neither will admit they are pining over the other. I lost count of the amount of times I thought these two would pull their heads out of their asses and just grope each other already. Every time I was about to sigh in relief, Alyson Reynolds decided my anxiety could take some more testing. Please note I’m absolutely laughing as I type this because I immensely enjoyed the tug of war my emotions went through.
Laundry: So there’s laundry. Like, lots of it. Roommate laundry. Friend laundry. And yes, Brooke and Dominic laundry. All of it is good, great and wonderful. Dom is surprisingly dirty, which made me forgive him for dragging his feet with Brooke. I will say I was super mad at one of these two for going and getting a significant other and sleeping with them ALL THE WHILE still having major feelings for their “best friend”. OOOOOO I just wanted to shake them! God, I love when a book pulls these strong emotions out of me 🙂
Depth: There are quite a few layers to this book. There’s the huge prologue for starters. Then there’s the complex relationship between Dom and Brooke. As well as the relationships between their friends as well. The majority of the depth comes from Brooke in my opinion. She’s got a lot of stuff going on in her pretty little 5’2″ head. I wanted so badly to be able to understand every decision she made. But I think part of the great thing in her character is a bit of mystery.
This love story is absolutely wonderful. In the final chapters I even found myself crying. Brooke and Dominic have a love that knows no bounds. And that’s a beautiful thing.

Did you ever read a book where you wanted to throw things at the heroine. Yup, that was me. There were times I wanted to throttle her by the throat. I talked to her like I knew her and I was frustrated and put the book down. Then I immediately picked it back up because I had to see what was going to happen. So I guess you think I didn’t like this book. Well you would be wrong. I actually liked this book a lot. Why? Well this was a real story. It was believable and so normal. The individuals in this book were flawed, less than honest with others at times, more important than that they were less than honest with themselves. That’s what I mean by real. This is what non-fictional people do in real life. We lie to ourselves as well as others. We become insecure and definitely over analyze peoples’ actions. We also look for ways to hide our insecurities and deceive everyone, including ourselves.
Now that I’ve said all that let me tell you about the tenderness and true love in this story. It brought me to tears. I laughed and could totally see situations occurring the way they were written. The other characters in this book are people we all know in our lives. Some never grow up, others are more than we expect them to be and some will do anything for you.
As much torture (maybe that’s too strong a word but I’m searching and on a roll with this review) as there is in this book, there’s also that much hope! This book touches on all the emotional elements of life. It’s like surfing, one moment you’re up the next you’re down. That’s what we call real life. It can change on a dime!
The story has all you need there’s; humor, sweetness, romance, angst, drama, heat, it brings all the feels and most of all there’s hope.
I read this book in one sitting, It’s that captivating. It’s my first book by this author it won’t be my last. It’s a story that deserves to be read, just bring your and tissues and allow yourself to absorb all the feelings you’ll experience. It’s worth it!

Dominic found his soul mate, knowing the first time he saw her she was meant to be his. The catch? She's his best friend's younger sister. There's a code, dang it. Three years have now passed since that life changing moment, and his soul mate is now his best friend, but that's all. She doesn't know the depth of his feelings for her. But one day something almost happened, and if it had, everything would've fallen into place for Dominic, for them, but fate didn't allow it.

Brooke hesitated and that cost her when her sexy best friend almost kissed her. Should she? Shouldn't she? Ugh, indecision is a terrible thing at times and can have long-lasting consequences. Her friends have tried to tell her Dom had feelings for her and now she's wondering if they were right.

However, an argument tears them apart, Dom unable to handle only being friends with her. Can Dom stand by as Brooke is with another man, a friend of his? What happens when he in turn begins a relationship with another woman? Will these two ever accept their feelings for one another and take a chance? Or has the opportunity passed them by?

One-click now and follow along as two friends must decide whether to risk their friendship or possibly lose the opportunity for something that happens once in a lifetime. On a purely personal note, the fact that he claims he knew Brooke was his soul mate immediately, and then at one point is with someone else, made me lose respect for him and doubt his true feelings for Brooke. Yes, she was with another man, but the blurb states right away HE knew, not that she did. She thought they were friends, and her other friends tried to convince her he felt something else for her. A man truly in love wouldn't be able to be with anyone else and would've never given up on the love of his life. Aside from my issues with that, I did like the premise and the author is talented, meaning I'll check out her other works, but this one was not for me due to the hero's actions. - By Elizabeth

Brooke and Dominic have been best friends from the moment they met; people question whether there is anything more between them but they are strictly platonic friends. Or that’s what they want everyone else to feel. Dominic has been harboring serious feelings for Brooke but she’s got him so firmly in the friend zone that it’s almost not worth the risk of losing his best friend. Brooke has some kind of feelings for Dominic but they have years of friendship between them and she does not want to risk making a move and screwing that up. Together they have to decide if they should take that next step; and if they don’t can they live with permanently being ‘just friends’?

I’m a pretty big fan of the friends-to-lovers type of romance and I couldn’t wait for Brooke & Dominic to get their signals straight. I’ll admit – I think I spent the majority of the book frustrated with these two. They have such an incredible friendship and you just know that they should be able to grow that to an even more amazing relationship, but something keeps coming up. They were right there & then they’re not. I won’t ruin the book with spoilers – but I will say the author keeps the reader hanging on. Every time you think you know what’s going to happen – it doesn’t! I really enjoyed my ride on the emotional roller coaster this book turned out to be though; I was frustrated but then I got to the conclusion and it was worth every bump and spin we went on. I had not previously read anything by Alyson Reynolds, but I am now eager to go find other books of hers to read.

Keeping Dominic is a friends to lovers, full of fun, steam & plenty of drama.

Dominic has been in love with his best friend Brooke for years, and everyone seems to know it except her. Not wanting to risk losing their friendship, he has kept his feelings hidden and suffered in silence.

Brooke is completely oblivious to Dom's feelings, and to her own as well. All their friends can see how incredible their chemistry is, and how perfect they are for each other, but she continues to deny there's anything but a platonic friendship going on.

But one moment changes everything, and puts their entire relationship on the line. Brooke starts to realize what everyone has been telling her is true, but is it too late?

I loved the friendships in this story, and all the supporting characters. But, to be honest, I kind of hated Brooke. In my opinion she was a bit bratty, and was a catalyst for unnecessary drama. I did feel for her throughout the book, and understood the need for angst & drama throughout the story, but it seemed like she created obstacles for her & Dom that never should have existed.

The angst level is definitely high, but it was an easy read and I definitely want to read the next book in the series. The author did a great job developing all of the side characters, and I would love to see how their stories all play out.

This book started with my heart in my throat and had me rooting for this pair from the first moment. Brooke Caldwell and Dominic Torres became acquainted when her brother became friends with Dominic. In turn, they become friends. But Dominic knows in his heart that Brooke is the one for him. And when one missed opportunity presents itself, it feels like their entire relationship takes a nosedive. While they both fight to keep their sanity and wonder about all of the should haves and could haves, they begin to lose a friendship that is years in the making.

Their friends can all see what's going on between them, but it seems even they are at risk of losing in this battle of wills. Each of them begin dating someone else, but their feeling for each other continue to interfere with their prospective relationships. When things finally come to a head, and they decide to face their feelings for each other, they find it might just be too late.

This story gutted me so many times. I wanted to climb in and shake the hell out of both of them and make them see what was right in front of them. It made me laugh and want to be a part of the story. It broke my heart and brought me to tears. Every time this author writes another book, I think this one is my favorite. But to be honest, I love them all, and this one is just my favorite for now...until she writes the next one.

This review is for an advanced review copy. It is my unbiased, honest opinion.

4.5/5 Stars

This is the first book written by Alyson Reynolds that I have read. I did not know what to expect and was very pleasantly surprised. The book kept a good pace and held my interest all the way through. It is your classic best friends to lovers story. However, it still feels fresh and new. Overall, I was very impressed with this story and would recommend it to all of my friends.

Brooke is a hard-working and confident woman. She is a wonderful friend to Dom and others. Dom is smart and has been in love with Brooke for years. Dom and Brooke were introduced by her brother. They became fast friends and know that they can rely on each other for anything and everything.

While these two main characters are great friends, they soon realize that maybe they want more. What happens when they both meet other people? Will they be able to be honest with themselves and with each other?

I loved both of main characters. Their personalities were so bright and endearing. They were a classic couple. I appreciated how strong of a character Brooke was. However, among the most enjoyable parts of the book were when the main characters interacted with the supporting cast. I was laughing out loud at multiple points in the story. Do yourself a favor and read this book immediately.
