This small town romance series features novels that each revolve around a bed & breakfast in a different country. The books are sweet romances, set in countries like England, Canada, and Italy. They can be read separately as stand-alones with a happy ending and are great for fans of Nora Roberts. No cliffhangers, no cheating, but some mild swearing.
Book 1: Tantalizing Temptations (Inn Love 1 - England) Book 2: Hidden Hopes (Inn Love 2 - Canada) Book 3: Sweet Surprises (Inn Love 3 - Italy) [releases in 2019]
Almost as soon as Devika Fernando could write, she imagined stories and poems. After finishing her education in Germany and returning to her roots in Sri Lanka, she got a chance to turn her passion into her profession. Having lived in Germany and in Sri Lanka with her husband has made her experience the best (and the worst) of two totally different worlds – something that influences her writing. Her trademark are sweet, yet deeply emotional romance stories where the characters actually fall in love instead of merely falling in lust. She draws inspiration from everyone and everything in life. Besides being a romance novel author, she works as a self-employed German web content writer, as a translator, and as a faithful servant to all the cats, dogs, fish and birds in her home. What she loves most about being an author is the chance to create new worlds and send her protagonists on a journey full of ups and downs that will leave them changed. When she’s not writing, she’s reading or thinking about writing.
Samantha, a young mother, is recovering from a bad marriage and is building a new life for herself as an inn keeper. Annie, her daughter, is an adorable little poppet, who has some of the cutest lines. Then there is Jonathan, a true blue knight in shining armor. It looks like Samantha is finally getting the break that she deserves. But could she be so lucky? The story plays out like a Hallmark movie, with all the right elements... cosy setting, easy pace, sweet romance and just the right amount of tension. Enjoyed it immensely.
This is a sweet love story between Samantha and Jonathan. Samantha leaves her broken marriage and shifts into an English village along with her four-year-old daughter Mary-Ann, where she’s lucky enough to have a chance to run a quaint bed-and-breakfast. I fell in love with the English village from the descriptions that I read. Jonathan is not just handsome, but also compassionate. His relationship with Samantha’s daughter has been treated exceptionally beautifully. A cutesy love story that any romance reader would love to read.
Like the other books I have read by this author, Tantalizing Temptations is a sweet story with lovely, polite characters and very little swearing (only the bad guys use bad language). There is a beautiful little girl who adds much to the enjoyment of this story and who is the reason for much that happens. Mary Ann was delightful, as were some of the other secondary characters (Miss Maggi and Glenda, and Eva and her Scottish bear of a husband - I really liked them). The main characters are Samantha and Jonathon (Jon Jon to Sam's daughter). They spark off one another well and Jonathon is a pretty amazing, empathetic and caring man who rarely shows any anger or annoyance. He's pretty well 'perfect'. Samantha is a bundle of insecurity (with good reason) who takes a long time to accept that a man like Jonathon could possibly exist after the terrible time she had with her ex. Samantha's parents were awful and while I know such people exist, there were no redeeming moments in their interaction with their daughter, and I so wished for even a small sign of regret for their actions. However, this is a sweet story of a second chance at love, for those who love their romance 'clean' and their heroes, drool-worthy.
Devika Fernando's books feel like the touch of a gentle breeze. In a quaint English countryside with cobblestone streets, medieval squares, picturesque rolling meadows is this timelessly charming cottage to be converted into a bed-and-breakfast by the heroine, Samantha, who wants to become an innkeeper. Made for a great comfort read with a little mix of suspense at the end!
Loved, loved it. Felt like I was watching a movie. Devika has always been one of my favourite writers. This is one truly memorable romance. Beautiful writing and believable characters. Samantha, Jonathan and Anne made an adorable trio. Looking forward to reading the rest of the inn series.
The book starts with the promise of a sweet and tender love story with sprinkling of sizzles, and delivers just that. Samantha has had a bad marriage and is in the process of setting out a new life for herself. Jonathan falls for her and offers her his full support and love as she battles out her struggles. Both the characters are unwilling at first, especially Samantha and have to face difficulties in their own way. Also Samantha's daughter is too, too sweet. Parts with her and Jonathan's family are really sketched well. A bit of a spoiler ahead. *spoiler alert* I really enjoyed the story and could sympathise with all that Samantha had to face. But found their relationship, while Samantha was under separation from her husband a bit awkward. But that maybe just me. Jonathan is a sensitive and unconventional type for a hero. The cover is very apt for the theme. The countryside has been pictured in lush and complete detail. All in all, a great read for your holiday.
Overall I thought the character development was interesting. It could have used some additional editing. I didn’t particularly like Jonathan and found him stalkery and slightly controlling/needing to be all in her business. His accent also seemed to change a lot. The plot itself was like a lifetime movie turned harlequin novel which was entertaining.
Beautifully written romantic stories (Second chance) in a cozy cottage amid the beautiful hills. What you need more to beat the summers here.? Be it Samatha or Hope, the author knows how to play with her words and makes everything live in front of the eyes. Recommended for all.
Samantha is trying to salvage what little of her life and pride she has and rebuilding it for herself and her little girl, Annie. #TantalizingTemptations are from the first page as Jonathan crosses their path and keeps coming back, drawn to them or they to him. The pull of love is visible from the very first rainy meeting that intrigues the reader to rush ahead to find out how Samantha and Jonathan will meet again.
Samantha is just out of a relationship, filed for divorce and struggling to find herself. She has sworn off men but is so tempted by Jonathan and so is he. Living close by and being qualified for a job that she needs assistance with sure helps. There is hesitation, she is unsure but the yearning of love and care makes her succumb to his love. I found the story such a bittersweet tale of love, understanding, and acceptance.
She starts work on the Inn and on her independence as well as setting up for guests and a grand opening. Jonathan helps her all the way but her self-righteous husband does add a spanner in the works. Arriving unannounced, bullying and then her parents do little to stand by their daughter. No wonder Samantha is skeptical of the ones actually rooting for her.
Devika is no stranger to writing about ‘difficult love’ as I put it, where there is pain, failure and hurt involved. Each time she spins a story with more understanding, deep introspection and stronger characters. Their failures do not make them weak but give them strength to be better human beings. I just love that about her books, especially in When I See Your Face and Saved In Sri Lanka. Our setbacks should not hold us back. Inner strength to be a better person always drives us forward as do Devika’s characters. Definitely, the Fire Trilogy was also a step in this direction with three mail leads that were equally complex and conflicted 🙂
#TantalizingTemptations reminds us that everyone can get a second chance at life and love. It is a strong story and steady narration with a bomb of a twist in the climax! Devika added enough suspense to the story to make it a page-turner. I found the cute and naught Annie so adorable, it was a delight to read about her. She is also the thread that binds the lovers and the book.
Pick this one with an assurance that you will fall in love and want that happily ever after.
This book just ticked off all the things I love about a story. The protagonists have very good chemistry and you can't help but root for them. This whole book just reads like a hallmark movie. I love it a lot.
