Poppy swore she’d never be with a vampire again, but she’s beginning to think there might be one exception… Poppy withdrew into the Alaskan wilderness to escape the immortals who wanted to drain her life, her will, her very soul... but when her long-lost sister reaches out with a desperate plea, Poppy knows she'll do anything to save her. Tempt Me Not.....

God I love these Courtesans, it's always so good for them, but in this story we are introduced to the true reality of what happens to some of them. These abnormalities live in even the paranormal world.

Twins Lilly and Poppy were of the unfortunate that were taken at the very young age of 5 by a terrible vampire pedafile t\o be blood slaves, but not only were they young their blood was also very special, especially Poppy's Albino blood. Lilly sacrificed so that Poppy could escape and she swore to get as far away from that world and especially vampires as was humanly possible. Alaska was the perfect backdrop for an Albino, a fact that made Poppy blood extra special from her normal twin. What were the chances of meeting up with a vampire out in the Tundra and much less the brother of the vampire who made her and her siblings life a living hell? Poppy's biggest nightmare is going to be put to the test.

Ulrich has only lived his undead life for one thing, finding his very evil brother Alarick.... Believe it or not, he has abstained from drinking blood for years, but will he be able to resist the absinthe that is Poppy's special blood in the hunt for Poppy's sister and his brother??

Decent characters and world but needs more depth, pacing, development

I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

I liked the concept of this story and the characters were also interesting. However, I felt like I never understood any of them deeply. I was told specific things, sometimes a characteristic or habit was shoehorned in, but it all seemed fairly rote and surface-level characterization. I was very interested in learning more about the culture and characters, because it's a unique perspective and I liked the hero, heroine, and others, but nothing really made an impact. We learned throw-away things about them and the continuity wasn't consistent. For instance, she referred to him as Ulrich in her head before he introduced himself. That's not the only error; just the main one I recall.

The pacing could also have been better and the story ended really abruptly. The villain was dispatched really quickly at the end so it was almost like there was no climax whatsoever and it wasn't that satisfying to see. The heroine mostly just got rescued a bunch of times. And there was no real payoff for dramatic events; for instance, Ulrich was sent to deal with vampires off-screen who were threatening them all and he dealt with them and came back inexplicably and all was fine. Huh? Really? With no explanations, either.

That said, I thought the hero and heroine suited each other and I understood why they wanted to be together. I liked them both (and that is rare enough) and neither of them annoyed me. I would have liked to learn more about the sister, Lily, but she seemed like more a plot device than an actual person. It was like there were characters with names but I didn't really know any of them except the hero, heroine, and to a certain extent, the main antagonist.

That said, I did enjoy reading it, which is why I'm giving 3 stars. I just wish it could have been a bit more consistent with more satisfying payoff, and that we could have dug deeper into the characters' psyches and motivations. It was a fair amount of tell-don't-show, unfortunately. I think there's a lot of potential for future writing but the plotting and character arcs would definitely need to be improved for a higher score.

Immediately we are taken to a nature scene. Poppy/Sarah hears her long lost sister, Lily’s voice. Then danger strikes. Poppy has to fight off wolves and becomes injured. She was rescued by a vampire, Ulrich von Helgrim. Poppy and Lily had escaped from Alaric von Helgrim, Ulrich’s brother, who had used them as blood slaves. Now Lily was in danger from Alaric and Ulrich wants to help Poppy find them. Poppy was aggravated with everything and everyone because of her past. But that did not stop her from searching for Lily. Something about their blood made them valuable to Alaric and he had Lily and now wanted Poppy too. Now Poppy was attracted to Ulrich even though it was against everything that she knew. Ulrich after confessing that he now abstained from blood drinking was inexplicably drawn to Poppy but did not know her secret. The search for Lily began. The story discusses the horrid way she and Lily grew up. A very smooth read and an exciting read full of suspense and danger.

Each book in the Blood Courtesans world has sent me on a unique and engaging journey. Poppy is a driven and strong heroine. We meet her in the wilds of Alaska taking photos of a wolf pack when her sister Lily reaches out to her telepathically which causes her to reveal her location. When the wolves approach, she fears the worst until a different wolf appears, rescuing her. Ulrich has sequestered himself from the rest of the world in the Alaskan wilderness. When he scents Poppy and senses her distress, he jumps in to help her. Now Poppy almost doesn’t appreciate the rescue when she realizes that Ulrich is a vampire. But knowing that her sister Lily needs her help, an unlikely alliance is forged. There are many layers to this story that provide a perfect level of drama and suspense. The connection between Poppy and Ulrich is fabulous. Ulrich has the tough job of convincing Poppy that not all vampires are bad which is a tall order and so much fun to experience. I voluntarily read an ARC of this book and this is my honest review.

Excellent!!!! The whole story is so gripping and reads so well that I completely zoned out and traveled into their world. I am so happy that Ulrich found Poppy and vice versa, she definitely needed guidance from a strong male, she's no push-over though and is smart but she does make have a few hiccups along the way. Ulrich is just perfect, I've never read this twist of a vampire abstaining so this just added to the excitement, he is a very determined vampire but so is his brother. Poppys story is very interesting and heartwarming, their adventure is dangerous, shocking and descriptive. The detail that the author shares is really awesome, it was like I was seeing them (catacombs) with Poppy and sometimes even cringing along with her. Poppy is a magnet for danger yet at times I wondered if she even realized it, lol. Loved this vampire romance.

Poppy never wanted to see another vampire again that is until Ulrich saved her from a wild pack of wolves. Poppy got distracted when she heard her twin sister calling to her telepathically and being distracted almost gets her killed. Ulrich is drawn to Poppy but not for her blood like she assumes. Ulrich is going to help her save her sister from his estranged brother who just so happens to be the vampire that Poppy is trying to stay away from. Going across country on their mission neither knew what to expect but they did know they would handle it together.

This was a very entertaining story that will keep your attention until the end. This book has everything you need in a book vampires, wolves, fighting and some sexy scenes. I couldn't put this book down once I started it. Its a must read by two amazing writers.

Poppy just can't run far enough to escape vampires

I love this sexy, darkish series about women who, for various reasons, become blood courtesans to vampires. Vampires are out of the paranormal closet and human blood is a hot commodity, especially when combined with sex.

Not all humans are on board with living along side of vampires--often for good reasons. They are predators, and humans their prey. Poppy is definitely not on Team Vampire and is in Alaska trying to avoid them. Ulrich is also in Alaska hiding away. He’s a unique vampire who shifts into a wolf and when he saves Poppy, her blood is too tempting. The story gets steamy and has a lot of twists and turns and is another good addition to the Vampire Blood Courtesan series. I enjoyed Hooked very much. While sticking to much of what we have learned about vampires and blood courtesans from the previous books in the series, Hooked goes above and beyond. Selena Kitt brings in the history of vampires willing to take a tough stand against evil, repulsed by the idea of taking advantage of innocents and children. We also learn about vampires who abstain. And while there is, of course, a terrible evil that must be overcome at great risk, the story also has an element of forgiveness as well as amazing courage, as several characters learn to look beyond the hellish experiences of their past to accept the opportunities right in front of them..

This is a book you won't want to take a break from until you reach the very end and have a chance to see how all the loose ends are wrapped up.

It's really good!

I open the book to one of the most enthralling books I've read in quite some time. Rich in color and exotic passion with just the right amount of mystery and suspense that won't allow you to put this book down. Love, Poppy's bravery and determination to find her sister knowing the dangers that are involved even after having escaped being a blood slave and Ulrich's need to fight his own nature but knows he will have to end his brothers evil, all while they both fight the attraction they are feeling with each passing moment. Their is so much to this story that had me spellbound. Highly recommended...love this whole series. 5 exciting stars

Exciting

This book kept me on the edge of my seat with my heart in my throat so much I sat down and read it in one sitting. With every turn of the page you began to wonder who was good, who was bad. This book will cause you to tear up a little as you get the feeling you are right in Poppy's head feeling what she is feeling.

Even with the way she describes the areas in the book you feel like you are right there with them. I even gagged a little at the thought of some of the places she was out. That is how real the book made me feel, like I was right there in the places with them, smelling the same smells.

This is a great read and you will not be disappointed.

Until Next Time... Tabi

Hooked is a very pleasurable read. A powerful storyline, intense plot and a high emotional content quickly grab your interest and keep it. Packed with steam, drama, mystery, revenge, danger and suspense this book is very entertaining. The story focuses on Poppy, a human and Ulrich a vampire. Both these characters are complex and carry baggage from their pasts that weighs heavily into their future. Can these two work together to stop the impending darkness? Will they give in to their hot & sizzling attraction? Can these two get a HEA? Grab a copy to see. I highly recommend this book. I'm posting an honest, voluntary review after reading an advanced copy of this book.

I love Selena Kitt’s books and Michelle Fox as well, this is a great collaboration of two great authors. I’m glad that Selena is a part of the Blood Courtesans books. This story is about Poppy and Ulrich, Poppy is searching for her sister Lily when she is attacked by wolves. She is saved by Ulrich who is a vampire, Poppy finds out that Ulrich’s brother Alaric has her sister and it wants Poppy too, there is something special about their blood that is why Alaric wants them both. Fantastic read and I love the storyline and the characters and if your a fan of the Blood Courtesans then you need to get this one too. I definitely recommend this book to anyone that loves vampires.

Hooked
A Vampire Blood Courtesans Romance
Selena Kitt

A wonderful addition to the Blood Courtesan series.

I picked up the book to read the first few pages, and did not put it down until I finished it all. I thought it was that engaging.

The story of Poppy and Ulrich was one that had me hooked for sure. The first few pages drag you right into the story, and into their meeting.

Selena Kitt writes a very descriptive book that will pull you in, and make you want to keep turning the pages one after the other as the story keeps you wanting to find out just a little more and then just a little more yet until you find out you are at the end.

One you won't be sorry you tried.

I received this book via Booksprout and happy to leave a review and recommendation to read as well. This is the first "Vampire Blood Courtesan" book of the series currently being offered. I found it more "hunted" than "hooked", but it all came down to Poppy and Lily being prized possessions for their blood. The blurb for the book is enough to entice you, but then I also love a great love story. This has that and so much more to keep your reading to the end. Though part of a series this book can be read as a standalone without reference to previous books. All I can say, this is a must read!

You will be flipping the pages as fast as you can to see what happens next. I have enjoyed all the books in this series, but I think this may be the best one yet. I loved Poppy and Ulrich and how they were drawn to each other. Their story is not your usual vampire story. It's so much more. This book is an action-packed adventure full of suspense and danger. I read it in one sitting. Looking forward to the next book. Patsy Sacco

This was my first blood courtesans book but it won't be my last. Ulrich was a hero that you just loved he was selfless to a fault the the total opposite to his evil brother, and Poppy (Sarah) had so many emotional hangups about vampires not that anyone could blame her. But they will get their HEA after a lot of intrigue and suspense.

This was a fast paced book and the writing style really flowed making it very easy to read.

I was given an ARC copy of this book but this s true and honest review

There's action, adventure, drama, danger, suspense, twist/turns, mystery/secrets, revenge, hatred, fear, guilt, intrigue, romance, passion/lust and love.

Excellent book. Poppy and Ulrich are the main characters. I fall in love with them from the beginning. Poppy is trying to find her twin sister, Lily, who she has not seen in years, since they were children. Ulrich offers to help her find her sister. He is searching for his brother to get revenge for the past. Join them on their adventure to find lost family and revenge.

I could not put this book down. The fast paced adventure. I can't wait to read more of the books in the Blood Courtesans series.

I really enjoyed this addition to the series. Ulrich is a vampire that wants to do the right thing. He truly desires to help Poppy find her sister and keep her safe. Poppy has such a hard time believing him but wants to trust him.

They really do make a great couple. I feel like the author really took time to develop the characters and not rush the relationship. You see the bond grow and it feels real. There is a good mix of action and romance.

I'm not the biggest vampire fan, but I've enjoyed the Blood Coyrtesans and especially this one. It has great characters, romance and intrigue. Atlantic was terrible and finally got what he deserved. Poppy was brave and she finally got what she deserved, too. The ending was great. I enjoy all the books from this author and can't wait for her next one.
