Fans of The Mortal Instruments, Supernatural, and This Present Darkness, won’t want to miss experiencing the beginnings of this epic love story.
LOGAN is a companion novella to the bestselling and multiple award-winning LIFE AFTER series. It can be read as a standalone, or as Book 2.5 in the series.
Julie Hall is a USA Today bestselling, 11x award-winning author.
She writes YA paranormal / fantasy novels, loves doodles, and drinks Red Bull, but not necessarily in that order. Julie's daughter says that her super power is sleeping all day and writing all night... and well, she wouldn't be wrong.
Julie currently lives in Colorado with her four favorite people - her husband, daughter, and two fur babies.
I was so excited that Logan got his own side story to explain his previous life, finding God, and the start of his after life through his perspective! We also got more insight to Kaitlyn, Morgan, Satan himself, and demons, but not more about angels. I loved that this side book answered so many questions/ filled in a lot of blanks, but also left so much room open and unanswered questions for Dominion. Julie managed to add another interesting aspect- physical scars are a manifestation of emotions or experiences that someone hasn’t fully recovered from. This book had violence, sexuality (nothing too explicit), revelations, and some heartbreaking moments, but it’s hard to say too much more without giving spoilers. *I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.
Oh my goodness, it was so much fun to hear the author share more about the book!
Originally, I gave the book four stars, but with the fun interaction from the author, I’m changing that to 5 stars. Definitely a must read for that alone, though this is a great companion for Life After fans!
A lot of lingering questions about Logan's past and how he used to be are answered as well as a few extra tidbits about his life that were fun. I didn't quite expect to enjoy his POV as much as I did and want to reread the series with fresh eyes since getting to read more of his story.
Overall, this is a great, must read in the series that will put Logan in a new limelight. Plus, the book is worth an amazing deal just to have an inside scoop from the author while reading each chapter.
*(I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review. All thoughts expressed were my own and was not required to write a positive review.)*
First, a confession. I may have read this all in one night... :) I really enjoyed getting so much of Logan's background and perspective in this story. I'll admit I was hoping to see a bit more of Audrey, but even just the first impression was quite interesting! Hall's writing was emotional and engaging as always, and she did a great job making Logan's narrative distinctive from Audrey's.
I would highly recommend reading this at least after Huntress, ideally Warfare. It has merit as a standalone story, but has way more meaning and interest in the context of the entire Life After series. That being said, anyone who's already a fan of the series will definitely want to check this out!
*I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book.*
In some ways this novella was closer to the epic demon fighting I was hoping for in the first two books, but not very suspenseful since it was covering events I'd already learned about. Still enjoyed getting Logan's perspective.
It's also cool how the author took advantage of the ebook format to include some extra content.
I found the companion story about Logan a great addition to the story. It was nice to get to know Logan a bit better and see how his ordeal made him in the Logan we know from the trilogy.
I really enjoyed this. I haven't read the other books but I'm interesting in reading them now after this. I liked the idea of the story and how Logan became who he did. I liked the way that everything seemed to be going right and then something came along to ruin it all the time and not once was it Logan's fault he was just unlucky.
Logan is the delightful companion novel in Julie Hall’s After Life series and features fan favourite and love interest Logan in this prequel set through his eyes and allowing readers to discover how Logan became the hunter he is prior to meeting Audrey.
Logan Landon has it all; good looks, friends and popularity. On track to become a career surfer, Logan’s life is made up of parties and girls, yet there is something inside him that feels empty. Then a mistake sees Logan land in the one place where all those materialistic things don’t matter; the afterlife. Falling into a routine, Logan quickly begins to flourish as a hunter, having finally found all that he didn’t known he needed. Until a routine mission goes wrong and Logan finds himself held prisoner, his faith and loyalty tested. Changed immensely after his ordeal, it’s the arrival of a new hunter named Audrey that proves to be Logan’s biggest challenge yet. As his inner demons battle, Logan begins to realise that Audrey is going to change his afterlife…..forever.
Logan is an enjoyable addition to the Life After series by Julie Hall. Readers such as myself fell in love with Logan as we followed Audrey throughout the rest of the series, but this companion novel finally allows readers to get to know him like never before. A must read for fans of the series, Logan explores Logan’s history including his friendship with Kaitlyn as well as the lead up to the months before he met Audrey.
I enjoyed seeing another side to Logan as we witness what his life was like prior to his entry into the afterlife as well the days when he was a new hunter. I have to say I certainly like the after-Audrey version of Logan over the one who partied too hard. Seeing him interact with Morgan and witness what they endured helped me understand just how far he had come and changed.
A quick read, Logan was well worth a read for fans of the series!
When a fatal mistake leads to his untimely arrival in the afterlife, Logan finds himself training to become a demon hunter. When a mission on Earth goes awry, however, Logan and his protege are captured by Satan and tortured for weeks. Following his rescue, Logan is broken in mind and body. No sooner has he begun to get back to some semblance of normality, he is tasked to train an unlikely demon hunter. At first, Audrey is as fiery as she is annoying but she may just be the bridge that heals his scars both in heaven and on earth.
Logan is a companion novella that can be read as a stand-alone or as book 2.5 in the After Life series. Told from Logan’s point of view, this book not only offers insight into Logan’s hilarious first meeting with Audrey, but answers a lot of questions about his background and how he came to be in the afterlife. His friendship with Kaitlyn and Morgan is covered as well as his brutal capture and torture at the hands of Satan.
My one small gripe was that it wasn’t long enough. Logan’s POV was so much fun that I wanted to read more about his thoughts on Audrey. It certainly made me see Logan in a different light though and I’m almost tempted to go back to reading the series again.
We were also given more insight in to Kaitlyn and Morgan’s relationship and with the author now hinting of a possible spin off between these two, I for one can’t wait!
All in all this companion novella is a treat for Logan fans. He’s such an enigma in the first two instalments. We now realise he wasn’t as indifferent as he tried to make out.
I received a free advanced audible copy of Logan narrated by Adam Gold and I am voluntarily reviewing it.
First of all, I just have to say the video commentary was so cool! This was such a fun idea and I kinda hope this catches on and more author’s do this! I liked how easy they were to pull up too with the QR codes.
I just absolutely loved getting inside Logan’s head! His thoughts surprised me at times and other times made me laugh. His past was so interesting and I never thought about his parents until it was brought up in the video commentary. Now I’m having all sorts of off the wall theories since it’s not going to be revealed more until Dominion. It was interesting seeing how Kaitlin tied into Logan’s life and story, and also Morgan’s story which is just so tragic. This book also had me curious about what the other occupations given to people are in this world.
Personally, I felt Julie Hall did such a good job giving us glimpses of Logan’s life through Audrey’s eyes that my own mind just kinda filled in the gaps already so unfortunately this backstory just didn’t have too many surprises or extra information for me personally. I found myself trying to rush through some parts that even though I didn’t already know, I felt like I already did.
The whole story was still interesting and I’m glad I read it in preparation of Dominion. (TWO MORE DAYS!!!) But as much as I was interested in his past, I really wanted to just learn more about what he thought when he was with Audrey. On the other hand, I am glad that this companion book wasn’t a compete rehash of the other two at the same time.
This was a brief story about Logan’s past life and his capture. He used to be one of those popular party jock but overtime, he started to wonder about his purpose of life. He thought being a pro surfer was everything he wanted but it felt unfulfilling. He heard God’s voice but he just dismissed it and tried to ignore it, but the moment when he threw up all over a girl’s chest was the moment he decided to accept God. Sadly, shortly after that, he and Kaitlin died in a car accident because his drunk friend tried to prove something by driving it.
He woke up in the afterlife and become a hunter and mentor. A guy named Morgan was assigned to him and they had a fun time until they were sent on a mission on Earth, killed a demon when they were forbid from doing it, got ambushed instead and became a demons’ drug for 6 weeks. Morgan decided to embrace darkness and got stronger while Logan was getting worse. However, he managed to escape but he had to went through a counseling. Of course he refused but he ended up having fun instead. The story ended with Audrey being assigned to him.
🧠 Thoughts
I love a story dedicated for the guy in the book. It opened a new perspective, and I just love reading about the guys’ inner thoughts about their girls (even though it was written by women anyway). It was a fun short story, a bit meh, but a good entertainment.
🎐What I Liked About It
The author made a playlist for this book! I think it was kind of sweet and unique.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
If you've enjoyed Huntress and Warfare (and, come one, who *didn't*?) then you're gonna love this. Julie expertly peels back the layers of mystery and intrigue that have surrounded the Life After series' most secretive character. And it. Is. GLORIOUS!
We finally get to understand more about Logan's motivations, but more than that, we also gain insight into other vital characters like Kaitlin, Morgan, even a bit of Satan himself. All of this is pivotal to a deeper understanding of the series as a whole.
Naturally, because of this, there be spoilers! If you haven't read Huntress or Warfare prior to this book, there's a lot you may miss out on. While I realize it could potentially be read as a standalone novella, it really is best read as part of the series. Reading this book by itself would be like having a diamond without a setting. Sure, it wouldn't still be beautiful, but it wouldn't be nearly as practical or complete.
The bonus features (Julie's commentary videos and the recommended music playlist) provide an immersive experience into Logan's world, with all its ups and downs. Plus...who doesn't love a good commentary?
If this book does nothing else for you (which isn't even remotely possible because it's that good), it should, at the very least, whet your appetite for Dominion. I know I can't wait to see what comes next for my favorite demon hunters!
I've thoroughly enjoyed the three book Life After series. But it's all told from the perspective of Audrey. Her love interest in the series is Logan and it was great to get a little snippet of his first hand perspective plus go back into time well before Audrey to see some of the significant events that have impacted his life both on earth and as a hunter in the life after.
In addition, we get to see Hall's explanation for the demons and why they act and look the way they do. Once again, I would have appreciated an understanding of the role of angels in Hall's supernatural universe (it was one of my key questions of the entire series)
What I especially enjoyed about this novella were the video updates Hall provides at the end of each chapter. It's a really clever device and helps add even further explanation of some of the series. I also appreciated how Hall used these as a means to answer specific questions that readers have provided. So well done, Julie. This novella and accompanying video content simply spoilt your peeps but also demonstrated a desire to serve them well.
One warning for all readers: DON'T start with 'Logan' until you've read at least 'Huntress' and 'Warfare' as there are spoilers in it.
Overall, the Life After series has been a thoroughly enjoyable read and I look forward to seeing what Julie Hall produces next.
Holy crab cakes baby, it did not disappoint. I was so happy to be back in the Life After world, and get to know a little more about Logan's life before he died. The Kaitlin/Morgan dynamic was EXACTLY what I was hoping for, and it gives me hope for Morgan in book 3, Dominion. There were lots of questions answered, and it was super awesome being in Logan's head. As a female, I always want to know what the dude is thinking. Am I right? Pretty sure all of us do. We got a ton of information packed into a little companion novella. It's the perfect amount to tide you over until the last book. I feel like the author thought about every single thing she added. She made it intentional, and it was clear she listened to her readers questions. One of my absolute favorite things about this book was that there were little videos after each chapter where the author talks about what you just read and answers readers questions right there! I've NEVER been able to experience a book with author thoughts in real time before. It enhanced the whole book and I reallllllllly hope she does it for all of her books in the future! I can't recommend this book enough. 5 stars baby!
LOGAN is a sort of prequel to the Life After series told from the perspective of... you guessed it... Logan. It was so awesome to get to know more about Logan. He's so mysterious and keeps a lot of himself hidden in the full length books, so I loved getting this peek into his head. I really enjoyed getting a look at what Logan's life was like pre-death and then the beginning of his afterlife. And it was great to see more of his and Kaitlin's friendship.
LOGAN is a great read to hold me over until the release of book three, DOMINION, but it can also be enjoyed even if you haven't read the LIFE AFTER series before. (Although you might get even more enjoyment out of it if you've read books one and two beforehand.) It did take me just a little bit to get into, which was probably just me getting used to Logan's POV. But it really didn't take long before I was reading as fast as I could and then being super sad because it ended. This whole series is amazing and I can't recommend it highly enough!
I was so excited to read Logan’s own account of his life and after life! This author has a way of gaining your attention and keeping it. While it’s just a fiction book that isn’t meant to be theologically correct, it still gives the reader fun & thoughtful descriptions of what our after life MIGHT be like. Self-realizations like realizing that our lives should be spent on people who matter, rather than on things and on ourselves. Another interesting observation is that the physical scars were actually “a manifestation of emotions or experiences we hadn’t fully recovered from.” The author weaves a tale that is realistic while still being fantasy, sometimes intense, and sometimes humorous. I enjoyed the insight and history of Logan’s character in this quick, easy read. I received this as an ARC copy, and I chose on my own to leave my own honest review. CAN'T Wait to Read the Next Book!!!!
Logan is a short companion novella about—you guessed it—Logan, the male protagonist of the Life After series. This short book gives us a look at things from his POV. We get to see his backstory, what his life was like before his death, and what makes him tick. There’s so much mystery and intrigue surrounding Logan in the first two books of the series, and after reading this book, everything makes so much more sense. I loved Logan before, but now, after seeing the struggles and the trials he’s had to endure, he’s just found himself securely lodged in a small part of my heart. I also loved getting more backstory on Kaitlin and Morgan in this little book. My only complaint is how short it is. I wish we could have a full length book from Logan’s POV, rather than this very short novella! This author continues to astound me with her creativity. Her writing is fluid and so descriptive, and I find myself unable to put the book down! She has quickly become an auto buy author for me!
This book series was recommended to me by a friend. She said this series was the best she'd ever read, so I had to check it out.
This is a companion novella for the Life After series. It was released after "Huntress" and "Warfare" and before "Dominion". I read this after I read the whole series, and I thought it was such a great way to experience the story through a different perspective. I personally don't think it matters if you read it before "Dominion" or after like I did. But you do need to read it after "Huntress" and "Warfare".
What's unique about this book is the author has little videos linked in after each chapter. That way you can get some insight about how and why she wrote them the way she did. It was really cool to feel connected with the author, Julie Hall.
I am completely in love with this whole series. This was a great companion book - loved spending more time with Logan!
Wow ! I loved this novella. It was great getting to know Logan, his life before the afterlife. Now everything about him makes sense. Much needed addition to the story. I really like him.
Kaitlin & Morgan were amazing too :) yes Morgan too. I see a redemption arc coming next for the guy :) fingers crossed 🤞. I need more of Kaitlin and Morgan so Julie pls write another book based on them.
I wish it was longer cuz I didn't want it to end. Really loved reading the book from Logan's perspective. He's so wholesome :).
Can't wait to read Dominion now. It's scaring me a little cuz of all the foreshadowing done in this and previous books 🤧. Looking forward to a happy ending ❤️.
I’m so glad I got the chance to read this so soon!
This is Logan’s POV from the Life After series. This is more of a 0.5 then a 2.5 and you could always be read as a stand-alone to. I love the way Julie has made us see another side of Logan I really didn’t see in the other two books (Huntress and Warfare must read if you love and read this 1st 😍.) from his hard exterior in the other books we find a more loving care free Logan in this book. I love the way we see into Logan before and after life. And I love the way he really see’s Audrey from the minute he lays eyes on her. 😍 I really hope you enjoy as I have done.
One Integral Part of a Beloved Series ♡♡♡♡ Fans of The Life After Series have always wondered what makes Logan tick. What shaped him and how and when did he end up in Heaven? This is one beautiful tale of forgiveness, redemption and love!! This companion edition will feed your heart and refresh your soul ♡ I absolutely loved how Ms. Hall presented us with Logan's point of view upon meeting Audrey! I found this to be quite the page turner with an exceptionally thought out and well paced plot and theme. It's a wonderfully beautiful insight into not just Logan, but some other beloved characters as well ♡♡♡♡
I am not going to lie: I read this book in one day.
I love hearing from Logan’s point of view! This book fills in some gaps from Logan’s life and his point of view, which helps explain his initial reaction to Audrey. Logan’s character, before this, was complicated and I was only seeing things from Audrey’s point of view. This book helped clear up a lot for me and what I want to do is go back and start all over again with Huntress and read the entire trilogy again knowing what I now know. It’s like a mystery book where all of the little things finally add up or reveal themselves to be bigger hints and make the whole picture that much more intriguing. Julie Hall is fantastic!
Logan's backstory. Logan begins as a high school athlete focused on becoming a professional surfer. His disillusionment with popular life is rather real. His friends were a burden. Popularity is a trap. Until Kaitlyn starts talking to him about God. But then he dies. Afterlife isn't what he expected. Yet he fit in well. Plenty of unexpected events and conversations occur. This definitely fills in several of the issues for the "After Life" series. Delightful.
Action-packed. Easy-to-read. Entertaining. Funny. Great world building. Scary. Tear-jerker. Tragic. Twisted. Unpredictable. Whimsical. Wonderful characters.
This short story is Logan’s POV, and goes into his past and how he became a demon hunter in the afterlife. It was nice to learn more about Logan, but made me feel like Audrey is way too immature and young for him after reading this. Logan partied a lot and slept around with lots of women when he was alive, so Audrey’s immaturity just feels like so much more of a hurdle between Logan and Her; especially after her childish actions in the last book. It is nice to see that Logan has grown as an individual though; he was mentally weak when he was alive, but it seems death has agreed with him. Liked the story, but didn’t exactly, increase my liking of this series.
This novella installment in the Life After Series was an intriguing look into how Logan became the closed off and slightly cynical man we'd seen in both Huntress and Warfare, giving some much valued insight to his nature. I can't say enough good things about this short story, it fills holes and answers so many questions about MANY characters we've met throughout the series, making me just that much more anxious to get Dominion into my greedy hands! The commentary and bloopers are a fun touch and I love seeing the author in this light.
Logan's story is a companion piece to the Audrey stories. It tells what readers already know about Logan's past, but told in story form. I learned more about the past between Logan and Kaitlyn and how they both found God, even though I wish that was shown a little more because they are going to spend an eternity fighting for him, so shouldn't we see how he change happened? It moves fast, but I don't think it is necessary to read to understand the series. It wasn't as interesting as the other stories.
This book really helped me understand Logan's character better. What his life had been like on earth. He never had much responsibility. He skipped college and became a professional surfer. This book also explains how he & Kaitlin died. Then it shows what his life was like in afterlife. And mentoring Morgan, which lead to betrayal. What his torture was like with Satan. I am honestly shocked he survived it. It sounds horrific. His road to recovery and lastly meeting Audrey. This book is unique because after each chapter you get commentary from the Author through QR codes. Pretty neat idea.
It was a great joy to read this novella and get Logan's back story. Julie Hall masterfully brings the readers into Logan's head through his spiritual and personal growth in faith as well as his struggles and doubts when that faith is tested. This novella provides real depth to his character. It makes me want to read Huntress and Warfare all over again. I recommend this for anyone who enjoyed hunger games, mortal instruments, twilight, and similar novels.
