Keyleth and Tiberius find themselves in unsavory company, but that's the only kind of company to be found in Stilben. Paid by the Clasp to stop the attack on the peasants, our heroes follow their noses and uncover an alchemical laboratory hidden in the city's sewer. They arrive to find a pair of half-elves fighting a gnome and a half-giant. With all the people tracking her in one place, the architect of the swamp curse springs her trap... • Based on the hit show from Geek & Sundry!
The group is finally really starting to come together. This starts with Keyleth and Tiberius together, Vex and Vax together, and Scanlan and Grog together, but by the end of the issue they are all working together, even if it is just in an attempt to survive the situation they are in at the moment. We're just missing Percy and Pike, and I hope we'll see them by the end of the 6 issue story arc. Oh, and I loved the panels that showed character movements; it was a nice allusion to the fact that this is part of a Dungeons & Dragons campaign using grid squares like that.
While this story continues to suffer from me just not caring about the mystery plot itself or any of the incidental characters/NPCs, the "dungeon" maps were a nice touch and plot threads converging in a flashy and amusing way is - as is pointed out by exactly the person you'd expect to point this out - always a classic, and fun to read.
The party is coming together now, and the story is enjoyable and entertaining, but I’m still missing the real origin story of Keyleth and Tiberius in this one. I was expecting more personal detail like in the first volume with Vex and Vax. The 2D map panels showing character positions were excellent: a great detail showing the origin of the game in pencil and paper D&D!
As a long time Critter (fan of Critical Role) I have wanted to know about the group's Pre-Stream adventures. These comics are that wish fulfilled. Yet, this is the first one to bring the whole team together and what a ride. The other two were literal teases compared to this one. As a player and now Dungeon Master I could see, in this last battle all of the 1st and/or 2nd level spells and skills being used by the team. Also, the idea that they weren't a team originally is astounding! Couldn't love this one more; except the fact that the last page clearly told me there are 3 more coming! Get here soon please!
Finally the stories and the characters started coming together, and there were some great lines and the dynamics were just oh so familiar and cool and I really love this bunch of idiots and I want more of them. I want so much more of them!!!
(I am still holding out hope that they will make an animated series out of their story, not gonna lie. They could start from the very beginning and every player could voice act their own characters and then Matt Mercer could do the rest of the character's voices bc he is amazing)
Good color artwork, though I wish there was 5 more pages of it. Prime video is showing a hot new anime based off this series. It's amusing to see the panels based off old fashioned dungeon tiles. When I was a GM the party would often make the mistake of splitting up... Mwa ha ha.
All of our hero’s are together and fighting! And Scanlan’s dialogue is fantastic! This is a great read and I’m going to go back and read it a dozen more times.
Awesome... huge fan of the campaign! Matt Colville captures the spirit and characters perfectly! Looking forward the next comic... #4!!! Also ... the fantasy books Matt C. wrote... Awesome! Come ON book three!!!
I'm not a comic guy, but this series is making me reconsider how I approach getting a story. I love Critical Role, and this is a fun way to get the missing back story of my favorite characters.
This one was great, we finally got to see all the paths cross into one fantastic image for their first team-up moment. Some of the borderline fourth wall humor from Scanlan is a little weird in comic format as opposed to at the table of Critical Role, but it still works.
Im really enjoying these little stories. Getting to know these characters and what they're capable of has been exciting. These have been a good entry point to the world of Dungeons and dragons i think.
Having followed Critical Roll for some time (started with the second season) I'm really glad I'm able to take part in learning about the first season without dedicating hundreds of hours to listening to the podcast. This comic was well made and I really enjoy the story so far.
The beautiful drawings and exciting story lines continue; it was fun to see Vax and Vex meet Scanlan and Grog, but I am a bit confused about Tiberius and Keyleth.
The first two entries felt more akin to comics in a fantasy setting, but this one started to actually feel like DnD, which for a hopeless loser like myself, is a good thing.
