About this book
Each of the 64 exercises gives a brief excerpt of statistical reporting from a published research article, and begins with guidelines for interpreting the statistics in the excerpt.
The questions on the excerpts promote learning by requiring students to
Each exercise covers a limited number of statistics, making it easy to coordinate the exercises with lectures and a main textbook.
The questions in each exercise are divided into two (1) Factual Questions and (2) Questions for Discussion. The factual questions require careful reading for details, while the discussion questions show that interpreting statistics is more than a mathematical exercise. These questions require students to apply good judgment as well as statistical reasoning in arriving at appropriate interpretations.
Very helpful but a bit too focused on the descriptive and the questions can be more than a bit repetitive. Still an excellent supplement to most quantitative method courses.
This book defines the terms but it’s difficult to know if you are truly understanding the material because there is no answer key or explanations for the exercises.
A great alternative for picking up some additional understanding of statistics. This manual provides instruction especially for learners who prefer to learn by "seeing." The guide is intuitively structured from easier to use statistics to less frequent and more ambiguous sets. And while the ever-rising prices of textbooks may make it less likely to purchase this (as it won't likely serve as the required textbook for the class), it is a great asset for statistics students and teachers alike.
