Born in the Jewish family as Dawid Wojdowski. After two years in the Warsaw ghetto, in the summer of 1942 together with his younger sister they crossed the ghetto walls, and spent the remaining years of the Nazi occupation in hiding. Most of his literary works, novels and short stories, are based on his war experience. The best known novel, Chleb rzucony umarłym, translated to several languages, covers his ghetto times and is considered one of the greatest literary works on the Holocaust.
He also worked as a reporter and literary critic.
In 1994 he committed suicide. ”The Holocaust keeps killing its survivors” - commented his widow, Maria Iwaszkiewicz-Wojdowska, adding that he had been very depressed by new antisemitic murals on the Warsaw buildings.
Bogdan Wojdowski is buried in the Jewish cemetery in Warsaw
