There's more to this Aussie cowboy than meets the eye.
Former grad student Eliza works as a nanny for a self-absorbed trophy wife looking to trade up for a new husband and ditch her child. Eliza will do anything to protect the little girl and open her boss’s eyes. Even if it requires an elaborate hoax.
Then fate hits Eliza with Henry, a bewildered, dirty guy at the bus station. He’s got amazing teeth, cowboy swagger, and an accent to swoon for. Everything is falling into place for a rags-to-riches-style bait and switch. But will it deliver a slice of humble pie to Eliza’s boss—or get Eliza fired?
Worse, refining him might mean losing her heart.
My Fair Aussie is another hilarious contemporary romance from bestselling author Jennifer Griffith. This twist on the classic musical My Fair Lady is a STANDALONE clean romantic comedy with a guaranteed HEA. Fans of authors Victorine Lieske and Jennifer Peel will fall in love with My Fair Aussie.
I love a story that ends with a kiss, whether it's a book or a movie. That's the big payoff! So that's the kind of books I like to write, and I call my style "cotton candy for the soul"-- light, sweet, gone. We all need a little escape from reality for a while, and escapist fiction can be the perfect remedy.
I'm a moderately bad housekeeper, I have a black thumb, and it takes a small miracle to get my hair to curl. My handsome husband and I live in the Arizona desert where we're raising our five children, who never let us stop laughing.
So much fun! I love My Fair Lady and to have a fun twist with a handsome Chris Hemsworth look alike Australian playing the role of Eliza Doolittle was absolutely clever. Very fun twist for sure! I loved the beginning of each chapter and how the author tweaked the different songs from the musical to fit the book chapters. So, so clever!
The first chapter I wasn't quite sure what to think about this Aussie and his predicament or what was going to happen but it was definitely a great way to create some angst and put him in a big predicament that needed saving by a fair maiden who also needed saving by a fair Aussie.
Definitely did not like Mo-No at all!!!!! AT ALL!!!!!!! Ok, I think my feelings for her are very clear now. *shrugs shoulders*
Oh I just loved all the surprise that the two MCs kept bringing to the equation with each other. Kept the fun and swoon factor going strong. That ending too? Happy, Happy, Happy!!!!!!!!!!!!!
To my fellow club members of "Voices in My Head", this is one that will have you hearing a deep and swoony voice the whole way through. Especially when he says "Elizar" (yes Eliza with an 'r' at the end). Any others who want to join the club, welcome! Those in the club already...you know who you are.
If you are looking for a fun and distracting from craziness in life novel, look no further, here it is! Plus you get to read about mistaken identities, swoony accents and true love saving the day! What's better than that?
Australian accent? Yes, please. This book made me smile. A lot. It had humor and great characters. Plus it loosely follows, you guessed it, My Fair Lady which is one of my favorite musicals. None of these characters sing and dance, but hey, did I mention the Australian accent?
Right from the moment that I read the book description, I was captivated and wondered how in the world Ms. Griffith would not only pull off a gender switch from a classic story, but have the guy be an Australian cowboy. Let me tell you--she's magic! She totally did it and I loved every minute of it.
Eliza is working on her PhD and is a nanny for the darling child of a spoiled rotten brat. You'd think PhD would equal super smart, but she is hilariously clueless, which made me adore her. Her intentions are noble and she's very sweet, but she had me laughing at her misunderstandings. As for Henry, he's the real deal and total package and I couldn't help but to love him--especially that accent.
The way the story comes together is very humorous and as it progresses, there are pops of romantic sparks that will put a butterfly or two in your stomach. There are characters to love and characters to hate, but it's all written in a way that is deliciously gripping. Griffith has a talented for using words that really evoke emotion and the feel-goods that will leave a smile on your face. I honestly let out a little squeal of excitement when I see that she has a new book coming out and this one is definitely worth the read.
Content: mild romance (with an attempted affair)
*I received a copy to review, which had no influence over my thoughts and opinions*
Romance, clean This was a cute retelling of My Fair Lady. More of a 3.5 for me as a reader, but one of the better things I have read recently. Loved how it the couple fell for each other, how Henry's secret was exposed (it was pretty heavily hinted at especially in the prologue), but cute to see how Eliza falls for Henry, and he obviously enjoys getting to know Eliza in return after all the disingenuous women he has been around. I think I loved the premise all around, and Henry, with his suave, but down to earth and likeable demeanor, and just his general Aussieness! (Awesome-ness for SURE!). Fun cute read! I received a copy in exchange for a fair and honest review. My opinions are my own, and in now way influenced by the gift of this book.
I read this book with the title Setting Up The Billionaire. Why a new name? I hate that. Just write a book and name it and leave it. This was a silly romance. I knew it would be when I picked it up. I wanted something light and fluffy. There were some major problems with the story line. He would never go so long without explaining himself, but then again they hardly ever talk in the whole book, but somehow end up falling in love. This is a chaste romance.
This was amusing. I’m an expat Aussie living overseas and I found the Australian language in this kind of hilarious. Yes, this is all Aussie language, but strung together like this made it obvious it wasn’t an Aussie writing it. I can not picture a man like our hero ever saying ‘pash’.
Of course this book is meant to be funny and tongue-in-cheek and it definitely achieved this. I enjoyed the summaries above the chapters and the light, breezy touch throughout.
I must add that I read the version with the other name and other cover but my vote is absolutely for this one. It better reflects the book (it is not clear that the other one is about an Aussie, which matters I think).
Oh and I could totally see this as a movie. A fun light-hearted comedy romp. The heroine is flawed but full of heart. The billionaire-to-be is dazed and homeless at the start but scrubs up very well very quickly.
I LOVED everything about this clever book! I loved the way it's like the old movie My Fair Lady but with a twist! The author has cleverly written this book almost like it's a screenplay, with acts instead of chapters. And each act begins with the title, cleverly changed, of one of the songs from the movie.
I have to say I loved Eliza, the parts where she talks are so funny! She's a college student, she's majoring in linguistics and she works on an exclusive island off the coast of California as a nanny. I'm not sure if there are the types of islands like she talks about working on, but it was really fun the way she describes everything and everyone, especially her boss, more about her later. I loved the way Eliza so obviously cares for her young charge, Sylvie. That's what the whole ruse with Henry is about, protecting her. I really thought that was sweet!
Eliza's boss, Monique-Noelle, Mo-No as Eliza has dubbed her, is terrible. Eliza says she's the world's third worst person, but she might be even higher than that! She truly annoyed me with her treatment of her sweet daughter and the way she's trying to get rid of her husband. I loved seeing her get her just desserts when she got them!
Then there's Henry. The funniest part of the whole book for me was that he's a wealthy man from Australia that Eliza and her friend think is a homeless man they just happened to run into in a bus station. The way they interpret his Australian expressions is just so funny! It kept me laughing through the whole book! I loved that he was such a good sport, going along with whatever Eliza told him to do through the whole book all to get access to a phone that would call Australia.
This book is so great! I loved the plot, the characters, the humor! Make sure to check it out!
My Fair Aussie - PG Violence: no Language: no Sex: no sex, some kisses I got so tickled reading this book! I usually get bothered by mixups (like *What's Up, Doc*)--I know, don't shoot me. But this book was AWESOME. The heroine was just so earnest and sweet about what she thought was the crazy hero. Loved it!
This was a fun twist on the My Fair Lady story, with an Australian super hero and a confused, funny heroine. When Eliza meets Henry at the bus station, looking homeless and hungry and asking for a phone, she thinks he's a handsome, delusional, down-on-his-luck nutcase. But her friend gets him to agree to help Eliza out for a couple weeks to teach her hoity-toity boss a lesson. I enjoyed this book. It's got a lot of slapstick writing in it. It wasn't my favorite of this author's books, but it was a good one. If you like My Fair Lady, this one's fun to compare to a modern day version of the theme.
🇳🇿 Nefarious plans to exact revenge on the third-worst person alive
-‘And maybe, with that, Mo-No realizes she should appreciate the man who was the father of her beautiful daughter and quit trying to trade up. Or down. Or sideways. Or for more hair... “I’ll come with you to find our mark.” Mark! Suddenly we were con artists—with marks...’-
I loved the humour in this adaptation of “My Fair Lady”. I laughed-out-loud at the crazy antics and the cockamamie plan they came up with. This was a very original, fun story. I highly recommend it. Well done!
This book had me smiling from the beginning to the end. I loved the character development and misunderstandings that happen throughout the story. I loved the MY FAIR LADY twists. I loved everything about it. This fun, clean, romance is a fantastic quick read that anyone who would love. I highly recommend it.
I really appreciated some of the liberties Jennifer Griffith took with the My Fair Lady story, there’s somethings that never sat right with me. I love the musical don’t get me wrong, but the bet always bugged me. I love that they had a little bit more riding on the fiasco than just a dollar sign and I love that they were upfront with their intentions. These slight changes added depth to the characters that I appreciated. The fact that she gave us Henry’s back story upfront made the little moments between Eliza and Henry more personal and sweet. I must admit through most of it I kept thinking to myself, no one is really that dense. The more I thought about it however, the more I concluded that we all jump to conclusions. We all see what we want to see. I wonder how often I’m as dense as she was, well… maybe not that dense
This was a cute book that made me chuckle at the start when Eliza messed up all the things Henry told her. The crossed lines were amusing and the author put a bit of extra backstory into it so it didn't seem too unrealistic that he would go along with the whole thing. I appreciated that because sometimes things can seem a bit far-fetched in stories like these. The Australian phrases also made me giggle and I loved knowing they came from watching the Batchelor! Bahaha! The whole time I read this I pictured Sam Cochrane in the lead and it made me smile. All in all a sweet fun read that I definitely recommend.
This was a cute twist on My Fair Lady, and I love how the author hung a lantern on the fact that it was a retelling of that story. I'm glad the characters talked about the movie, and the movie-referencing chapter headings were clever. I don't read a lot of romance, even clean romance like this story, but the author has a great voice and does her job well. I liked the characters, and I loved that our hero and heroine had a specific thing in common that made them inevitable. If you are looking for a fluffy cotton-candy read, this book might be the one for you. I personally want to turn it into a movie.
A My fair Lady tale with a twist. Instead of a poor lady made to look like a rich lady. It is a poor man made to look like a rich man to teach a rich snob woman who wants to trade up and has a lovely child. The nanny who needs her job to pay her school fees to complete her PhD. Wants to teach her boss a lesson so her child will have a better Mom. But the poor man is really rich but got stuck on the canyon wall, missed his ride and lost his bag with id, credit cards and international phone. Also he is Australian and she misunderstands his tale because he uses Australian words and she thinks he is crazy. The nanny falls for the "poor" man. Will they have their HEA?
Eliza and Polly are going out for dinner. Polly wants to try a restaurant her parents said was good. It was located in a bus station in a bad neighborhood in LA. Eliza noticed a guy who looked like he hadn't eaten in days. She offers to buy Henry dinner. Polly decides to tell him their plan to make Mo No fall for him. Eliza isn't sold on the idea but Polly convinces her to have him do it. Will their plan work? Well written story with strong and believable characters.
A young woman working on her PhD in language while paying for it working for a rich witch as a nanny for her young daughter meets a man at a bus station in Los Angeles and she misunderstands most of what he says because of a heavy accent and a lot of misunderstood terms. I am not going to give anything away here other than mistaken identity and falling in love and a lot of confusion leaves a fun tale and a lot of interesting romance! Read at your own risk! You may want an Aussie of your own!
I couldn't love this book more! Henry is just absolutely perfect - charming, funny, caring, generous, and hot, hot, hot! Eliza is heroic and selfless and just a little too willing to rely on her first impressions of Henry. This is a terrific story and the writing was sublime! Some of the author's lines had me snort-laughing and reading the book aloud to everyone around me. It was a blast to read, and I just sighed at the beautiful ending.
I had a hard time getting into this book at first. The changes in voice also threw me a few times. The dialogue and transitions just felt a bit disconnected. I like this author and the fact that she writes clean books with chemistry. This was a cute story overall, I just found myself struggling to get through it.
Content: Clean Language: Clean Religious: Not really. There are some references to God, but this isn't really religious.
This isn't a book I would normally be drawn to, but I saw that I could get it free on kindle unlimited so I thought I'd give it a try. It's a cute twist on My Fair Lady. The author is witty, and I especially got a kick out of the chapter titles. I thought parts lacked some believability, but it was still a fun, easy read. If you want a clean romance that you can lose yourself in for a day, this fits the bill.
Eliza was working as a nanny for a woman who didn't appreciate what she had. She wanted more and getting a new man was part of it. Henry came to the U.S. To talk to a DNA animal geneticist but lost all his stuff in the Grand Canyon. He ended up in the LA Bus station. Eliza & Polly go there to get lunch but end up using Henry to get back at her boss. Not realizing he really was a rancher from Australia.
This was such a fun and entertaining Romcom. I literally laughed so hard one night that my husband, daughter and a granddaughter all started laughing -- especially as I tried to catch my breath to explain but then just couldn't stop laughing. Tonight my granddaughter just bought the book on her kindle too! Such a unique storyline and a fun romp!
I couldn't put this book down. I love when authors take a well known story/musical and make it modern. Jennifer did a great job in adapting My Fair Lady and making it her own. My, the words Aussies use we confusing, yet perfect for the story. The romance was sweet and the story completely engaging.
Ms. Griffith has caught the magical essence of mistaken identity, and howit can turn out so well. Eliza and Henry were such an endearing couple. I really enjoyed the chemistry between them, even while keeping the book clean. I also loved the play on the "My Fair Lady" theme. I'm really looking forward to reading more from Ms. Griffith.
Left behind by a bus tour of the Grand Canyon, billionaire Henry Lyon, is found in a bus station and thought to be homeless. He is at the moment penniless because he lost his backpack while free-climbing the canyon wall. Henry is hired or two weeks to make the nanny’s employer want to leave her current husband and the daughters he abhors.
The characters are delightful and the book is clever and goofy and swoony! I stayed up way too late at night reading it because I was always wondering what would happen next!
Jennifer Griffith has such a fun sense of humor, it's quirky and a lot of it is situational, while some is a well-placed pun. It's a joy to read her romances, which are ALWAYS clean!
This book was so fun & entertaining, I laughed out loud! Pulling the wool over someone's eyes while trying not to fall in love with your co-conspirator is a challenge! The "homeless" Aussie rogue just get better looking with each page!!
Good book I enjoyed reading from the first page until the last one, this is book 3 in a series called Millionaire Makeover romance.I found myself being left with a smile on my face the misunderstandings just make this a fun book to read. I am voluntarily reviewing an advanced copy of this book.
