A new entry in the frightfully fun series perfect for fans of Goosebumps.
Best friends Zoe and Mateo are excited for their families' annual winter break vacation together. This year, they're going somewhere a ski lodge that promises to give them fun days snowboarding and sledding, and cozy nights with hot cocoa and scary stories around the fireplace. But the last thing they expect is for scary stories to come to life!
Enter Tales from the Scaremaster, a mysterious book with a mind of its own that starts writing Zoe and Matt's story. The book weaves a tale of ski lodge neighbors with a bloodsucking secret--could it be that their sneaky, bizarre next door neighbors at the lodge are actually vampires? It's up to Zoe and Matt to outwit and outlast the Scaremaster, and get to the bottom of this vampiric mystery... before they end up vampire victims!
I need a read for the week, so let's go back to Goosebumps inspired modern series. Tales from the Scaremaster started in 2016 for 6 entries and is by Stacia Deutsch. She has plenty of works, from TV tie ins to fluffy looking Friendship stuff. Not much horror.
The book says it is by Stacia and “BA Frade”. That's like if Spinetingler had the ghostwriter on the cover alongside MT Coffin.
Been curious about it. It has camp and Halloween books but may as well sample a random one.
Zoe and her friend Matt are on a ski lodge vacation at the Wampir (subtle) Resort. They discover a book called Tales from the Scare Master and the story being written it starts to happen for a real. Odd things happen that point to some bloodsucking activity.
This is the lowest 3 out 5 I could give tbh. It does have a decent core in there but it's nothing special. Writing is basic but functional and shows some talent. Zoe is fine but nothing notable beyond her gender being more informed than anything.
I liked the bond with her sister and there are some creepy moments as tension ramps up. The setting has its moments and there is solid promise here.
It's just that not much is really explained. The Scaremaster thing is pointless and convoluted, I thought the series title would just mean nothing lol. The core vampire story has enough to make it decent but just barley. Not much is explained so it all feels just odd.
There's a preview for the next book but it's labeled as an Epilogue. Sneaky. So yeah, it's a light Decent. Some cool ideas and atmosphere with points docked for being weirdly confusing.
I'm not bursting to read more but I hope the others buckle down and make more sense. Guess we'll see? As it is, it's fine but on the lower end for these.
That's about it. A mild wash but not bad. Idk what is next exactly but one of the next 2 is a thing I promised so watch out for that.
Review from my daughter, Paige, 11 (IG account @paige.s.reading for more reviews and pics).
Plot: Zoe and Mateo (Matt) will have a fun vacation in the Wampir ski lodge. They are going to go skiing, snowboarding, etc. When they finally arrived, the ski lodge wasn't as fun as expected. A mysterious woman leads them to the library in the lodge when they get bored. They found a mysterious book called "Tales of the Scaremaster" and started writing because it was blank. Zoe soon realizes that the book is possessed because it wrote back to them. Soon, the story comes to life…
Feelings: Vampire vacation is book 5 of the series: Tales from the Scaremaster. The story is scary but exciting; I couldn't put it down; I had to know the end. I love the part that the Scaremaster wrote; it was well descriptive and spooky. My favorite character is clever Zoe. I won this book on Instagram!
