After receiving a near-fatal injury from his brother Shō, Shinra’s life is saved by the healing fire soldiers of Company 6. When he wakes up from his coma, who should appear before him but Leonard Burns, captain of Company 1. He’s ready to tell Shinra about the fire that took his family 12 years ago, but can Shinra handle the truth?
Atsushi Ōkubo ( 大久保篤), also romanized as Atsushi Ohkubo, is a Japanese manga author and fantasy artist known for his work on the manga series Soul Eater, which has been adapted into an anime. Okubo worked as an assistant under Rando Ayamine, on the manga series Get Backers. He also created artwork for various cards for the Lord of Vermillion game.
Atsushi Ōkubo was not a model student and was more attracted to drawing than to learning. At the age of 20, after finishing studies at a manga school where he met Rando Ayamine, the author of Get Backers, he became Rando Ayamine's assistant for two years. Finally, he won a competition at Square Enix's Gangan magazine with his first manga series B.Ichi and it was published for four volumes. After the end of his last manga, he created Soul Eater, still for Square Enix's Gangan magazine, which brought him worldwide success.
Welp all my bitching over to much fanservice and showing a character get mishandled with her boobs and butt getting grabbed and finally we have a whole chapter dedicated to showing off man butt, and sexy poses for the ladies. SO fair is fair.
Overall this volume is A LOT more lax than previous and I liked that. Atsushi Okkubo is actually a pretty solid writer and his humor can work in a lot of places. It worked real well in this volume as I laughed plenty as Shinra had to deal with his Captain and crew mates to take nearly nude photos of himself.
We then get to see our friend get some damn answers to what happened to his mother and brother all those years ago. Some pretty epic fighting inbetween the answers and now that we know who is who, everything is starting to fit into place with all the mystery.
Fire Force once again has me entertained throughout. I can't say it blows me away but I'm never bored and always smiling. A 4 out of 5.
ANDDDDDDD we're back to the filler. The last volume felt so climatic and so consequential that I wanted that momentum to continue, but I guess that's hard when Shinra is severely injured, to the point where Company 8 have to turn to Company 6 to ask for help healing him. When he's healed, the Company 1 captain, Captain Burns, shows up to talk to Shinra about the fire that killed his mum and took Sho away to the Evangelists. Burns tells how he knew that the horned demon Shinra seen in the flames and also in the adolla links he's been having was actually his mother, turned by the evangelists who have been hunting for adolla bursts to bring down the Sol Empire. This news obviously throws Shinra as he's spent his entire life wanting to become a hero to kill the demon in the flames. He asks to see the Company 4 captain who he saw in one of his links. This book was so good, the first chapter and the last couple, however, the filler ones re the nude calendar and weekend shopping felt a little pointless. They maybe would have been more effective in different volumes but I feel like we've come off such a high point in the series, it felt like a little anticlimatic to follow Shinra and the girls on their shopping trip. I'm hoping following the end of this volume, with Shinra being possessed through the adolla link and attacking everyone, lifts the momentum up in the next volume.

OK, that was strange even for this Manga. Shinra fights with the Captain of Company 1 - which was supposed to be the Captain telling Shinra about the fire that "killed his mom and brother". Then there is a chapter devoted to beefcake as the males of Company 8 work out for a Nude Firefighters Calendar. This Manga does have a lot of fanservice. The Shinra and the female members of the team head out shopping on their day off and Shinra is blamed for a prank.
Later Shinra gets a meeting with the Captain of Company 4. That Captain we are told has information on the Adola link. Instead the Captain is weirdly addicted to being burned. Then a bunch of Fire Soldiers become possessed and a fight breaks out - Arthur and Shinra to the Death!
Even though we are learning things and the plot is progressing vol 10 & 11 sure feel fillerish.
Pretty good volume in general. I don't understand when people give very low ratings when there is no "action." Many people expect only fighting from a manga and when there is a chapter or volume that mostly deals with answering questions they skip it. Later, they complain about why certain things don't make sense. The truth about the fire is finally revealed by Captain Burns and Shinra can move forward freely. There are also other things we learn in this volume but there are more questions to be answered. Shinra is a good character but I am more curious about Arthur who is kind of an enigma. Good volume overall in my opinion.
Unlike the high intensity climactic action of the previous volume, this volume focuses on answering questions that were dodged at every opportunity. The answer provided came at the best time and have satisfied each and every question I had. However, just as any good story or mystery has, these answers have only raised newer and more intriguing questions than we had before. What these answers mean for the future remain to be seen, however, we can safely conclude and reason that they have compelling and profound implications for not only the future of Shinra but the future of the world.
One of the most important plot points in this volume addressed the mysterious one-sided viewpoint of the burning incident in Shinra’s house and how Sho was seemingly taken. By showing Burn’s point of view and receiving invaluable answers about it, we now have a much wider and open viewpoint. Ultimately, this results in another change in interpreting Sho’s character, his and Shinra’s mother’s character, as well as the depths and lengths the Evangelist undertook to get the Eight Pillars.
Everything was not serious or paramount to the plot in this volume. Comedy was leveraged with the action and serious to lead to genuine and authentic laughs that felt smartly and intelligently placed to balance the contents tone. Personally, I was glad that we had a fanservicy chapter about the firefighters. Arthur and Shinra participating as well as the usual suspects was amazing. Seeing the other company’s participating was also enjoyable. I am glad that series decided to finally give the guys some fanservice love, which is great considering Tamaki already fulfills that type of role and more for the female characters.
The concluding portion of the volume provided some insights and perspective on Shinra and Arthur’s time at the academy while also introducing a new face who perhaps could hopefully join them in the ranks of a fire company (I hope). The position and timing of this event strongly suggests and highly implies that Arthur’s role may finally be increasing to a substantial level. It has been interesting that the writer continues to have many of Arthur’s moments revolve around Shinra and not the others. Perhaps there is something deeper than friendship for them. In any case, the volumes leaves much to be anticipated for volume 12. It cannot come soon enough.
Fire has always been a thing of nightmares for many. In this world, people are at risk of spontaneously combusting and turning into Infernals. An Infernal wants only one thing - to destroy. They are no longer considered human. That is where the Fire Force comes into play. They must protect the people.
Shinra nearly died in the abyss – but he's not going to let a little thing like that stop him from his quest. He's determined to bring his brother back around and make them a family once again – no matter the price.
Review:
After the intensity from the last volume, it's kinda nice that Fire Force Vol. 11 was a bit more relaxed and chill. Better yet – it even had a comical (and fair-is-fair moment!), so I can't complain about that.
A few good things happen in this volume. First, Shinra finally (FINALLY) gets some answers about his past and family. We have yet to get all the information, but the puzzle pieces are coming together. Thank goodness.
Second, the fan service goes the other direction (for a change). Instead of the girls getting oggled and ripped clothes, the men are the focus of the fan service. Yes, it's more comically leaning (as opposed to how the girls get stripped in the middle of a battle), but it's closer to fair, so I'll take it.
Highlights: Manga – Shonen Connected to Soul Eater Lots of Action

I read vol. 10 in January 2020, over 5 years ago. I did not plan to take a break from this series, I don’t know why I stopped reading this series for a while. I think it might be because I don't like some of the future covers (like vol. 13) and because I probably got distracted by other series (it happens a lot more than I want it to). This year I've been trying to stay on top of series and not fall behind if possible. I'm going to try to finish this series either this year or next year.
Reading this volume reminds me why I loved this series so much. I still love this series. I'm already in the middle of vol. 12 and the last few chapters in this volume and the first few chapters in vol. 12 have some similarities with my number one series, Fullmetal Alchemist/Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood and I'm really enjoying it so far.
We finally find out the supposed truth of the events that happened twelve years ago to Shinra's family. It was nice to finally get more of the mystery revealed but soon after the volume went into unrelated events (kind of like fillers) and it derailed the gravity of the situation. The fillers were funny but honestly would have been better not to include them.
We also find out a little of the entity that Shinra has been seeing in his subconscious and a battle ensues as he visits Company Four. Curious to find out more after the conclusion of this battle!
A little more backstory to Shinra’s past and some sub-plot humor on the side made this an enjoyable read. The fan service really took off with the dudes, and we get to see a side of Shinra I was interested in seeing towards the end of the volume that I’m curious to see unfold in the next. Some of the side characters don’t do much except we get to see how Arthur’s powers work and the reason why he seems so idiotic while fighting. Again, fun read. Really enjoy this series.
There is a lot of back story and a few comical sections. The comic bits include the firefighters posing for an all male nude calendar and a shopping spree for four Company 8 members. This volume felt like a break from all of the heavy action and fighting of Vol. 10.
Got some information about what truly happened 12 years ago in Shinra's house. Adolla Link was also prominent is this volume and I am intrigued about it. What I did not like was the fan service chapter that was a filler and just an excuse to show off characters in certain way. But overall, not a bad volume.
We got a lot of questions and answers with this volume. It's one more step closer to finding out more about Shinra's past. Of course I still love my boy Arthur, he has to be my favorite character of the series so far.
I Don’t know why but Fire force reminds me of bleach. Somehow I feel that They share some characteristics. Like the station Numbers, the responsibilities of each station, then there’s a traitor among them, etc.
I’m in volume 11- the storyline getting intense, Brother against Brother…

A little slow to start with with those side stories. But some things are explained and we get back to main story pretty quickly which I liked. Thanks. Let's keep reading.
