About the author

Rob Lloyd Jones was born in San Francisco but grew up in London. He studied Egyptology at University where he learnt hieroglyphics, and often goes on digs with the Egypt Exploration Society. He is a senior editor at Usborne, for whom he has written over thirty books – mostly historical non-fiction, but also adaptations of classics such as JEKYLL AND HYDE and THE COUNT OF MONTE CRISTO. Rob is also a volunteer reading helper at a primary school in Clerkenwell and wrote episodes of the children’s TV show ‘Bernard’s Watch’ for Carlton Kids. He lives in south London with his wife Sally, and 14-month-old son Otis.

If your kid loves construction stuff, this is the book for you. Tons of good flaps and lots of detailed little pictures.

This book was incredibly fun and detailed. I have never experienced such layered and captivating flap-lifting - in this book they are nested to reveal more and more detail about the structures that are getting constructed. For example, in the sky scraper construction first we lifted the flap to make the building taller, then we lifted a smaller flap at the base showing how the foundation was built, then we lifted a flap to make the elevator go up the side of the building and deliver materials, and so on. My toddler was completely engaged with all the details. The depth of all the nested flap lifting was truly fascinating and I learned a ton too.

This cute interactive book has you lift the flaps to find out more about the job or equipment on the construction sites. This book is cute and I highly recommend it for your large equipment loving kiddo!

What a fun book! The flaps are great and got a bit of laughs too, especially page four. A great, basic early educational tool for broad discussion of construction sites, machinery, and function. Love it!

Another fun flap book that's also educational. It tells some about how various kinds of things are built: houses, skyscrapers, roads, bridges, tunnels, etc.

Usborne’s “Look Inside” books are highly educational and interesting, while also being engaging for younger children. The illustrations are colorful and busy, so there is a lot to look at. The text is presented in smaller chunks, so it doesn’t have to be read all at once and is not overwhelming. My children love to look through these books and gather facts at random. My six year old son is especially fond of this particular book and loves learning about aspects from various types of construction sites.
