He's not the hero she's looking for...

As part of the elite Centurion Corporation team, military-veteran-turned-mercenary Gabriel Diaz is a natural defender. He'll do anything to ensure a mission is successful. Anything but get emotionally invested—he learned the hard way that can be deadly. Easy bodyguard jobs in between the more challenging missions are all he's interested in now.

Maylin Cheng is desperate and running out of time. Her younger sister has gone missing but no one seems to take her concern seriously. Her last hope lies in asking an aloof bodyguard for help. He dismisses her outright, but all that changes when she is almost killed in a not-so-accidental hit-and-run right before his eyes.

As Maylin leans on Gabriel, she begins to rely on him for more than just her safety. But as their attraction grows, so does the danger surrounding them. When the elaborate web they're trapped in unravels, Gabriel will do anything to protect them. Even if that means putting his heart in the crosshairs.

Oooh, this was such a great read!

What a wonderful start to what looks to be a great series!

I absolutely adored Maylin"s character!
I loved her strength, intelligence, determination, hope, and loyalty.
Wow! What an amazing character to read!

Gabriel was also an amazing character to read.
He was a great warrior, and hero in this book.
When he made mistakes, he learnt from them and tried to make things right.

The writing and story-line were great, and the author had me hooked right from the start and on the edge of my seat right til the very end.

Great read!

Can't wait to read the next book in the series!

Let's jump straight into the plot!

Maylin Cheng believe that everything can be fixed with food.
You only need to have the right meal in your hands and a full belly.
Only one thing she can't fix,
Her sister is missing and no one will help her.
Maylin is desperate, An-Mei is not the type to just take off, and her sister being a top geneticist, something seems wrong.
When all the sudden Maylin finds herself on some sort of hit-list, she desperately seeks help.
No one is willing to help, not even The Centurion Corporation,
that is, until they see her almost flattened on the street.
Gabriel Diaz makes it his assignment to help and protect Maylin,
However, who will protect his heart?

This book was really nice! I liked it a lot!

This story begins with Maylin desperately trying to convince someone to help her and being rebuffed, as a owner of a catering company- she doesn't have the big bucks to pay a private investigator but surely someone knows something of what happened to An-Mei.

"When it came to relations by blood, only An-Mei had been the family of her heart. Maylin would do anything for her little sister. Anything to get her back."

Maylin is a really sweet character that has a degree of gumption and backbone without being some sort of ninja.
I find it hilarious that her version of dealing with stress is mass cooking or cleaning...actually that's what i do too.

Gabriel Diaz is an Alpha male for sure. He totally is a softy inside though and cares for others but he doesn't try to play it off, people knows he cares for them.

This book is filled with suspense and intrigued, from bombs to bullets to intricate plots. It was very entertaining!

That being said, it is most definitely an adult book and has mature scenes and content. You've been warned.

The writing in this book is very good, Drake definitely knows how to suck you into her world and keep you on your toes!

Definitely worth a read!

Stay awesome!

I've been in the mood for a really good romantic suspense lately and I have to admit that my expectations for Hidden Impact were pretty high. That being said, while some of this one worked for me, there were quite a few things that didn't as well, leaving me a little disappointed in the end.

I've said it before and I'll say it again... The bodyguard falling for his charge trope has always been a favorite of mine. And when the heroes protective instincts kick in almost immediately upon meeting the heroine? Even better! So I really thought I was going to love this one right from the beginning... And I did, for a little while.

Then we got to a pretty big plot twist and things started going down hill for me. Unfortunately I can't say much without spoiling a good portion of the plot but I can say this much... As soon as Gabe's ex was introduced I knew I was going to be disappointed. From that point on I had a hard time feeling Gabe and Maylin's connection and I really wish his feelings were explored a little more.

While I was disappointed with the romance, the suspense aspect was pretty good, if a tad boring at times. There were a few sitting on the edge of my seat moments when I was anxious to see how things would play out. And I loved that Maylin didn't cower when she was confronted towards the end.

Overall, Hidden Impact was a decent read, and while it didn't work for me quite like I was hoping it would, I'm sure it'll be a great read for people that don't have the same pet peeves as mine. I can honestly say that the writing was great, and I'm definitely looking forward to more Piper J. Drake books in the future.

ARC provided by the Publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

One of the wonderful things about NetGalley is the opportunity to read new authors. Piper J. Drake is not a new author, per say, she comes with some paranormal books to her credit, but, this is her first romantic-suspense effort. The book is strong on the creation of the atmosphere of a mercenary organization as a business that has to sometimes make the tough decisions to profit as a business. As the first in a new series I can see that future books are destined be just as great as this one is.

Maylin is a high end caterer in Seattle, WA. Her sister has gone missing in China while there for a genetics conference. Maylin is desperate to find someone to help her, the authorities are giving her the run around. Gabe is working security for one of her jobs, this is just a pick up job for him and his team. They are a fire team for Centurion Corporation. Gabe rebuffs her until he has to save her life. Then he begins to take her seriously. Big problem, Maylin doesn't have enough money to afford this high end organization. As Gabe and Maylin get close, her trust is tested and his heart is lost to her.

I was very much in the mood for some danger and romance when I picked up this book. To say I'm pleased by what I found would be an understatement. There was danger. There was romance. There was more danger! It hit the spot, man. It hit the spot.

Things that worked for me: Maylin and Gabe. She's determined to find some way to help her sister. He's determined to not let her under his skin. In Gabe's case, it's a lost cause. Because Maylin does get under his skin. In a big way. From the first time she approaches him right through the big hoopla they find themselves in the middle of.

(And who doesn't love a little adrenaline sexin'? Get some bad guys after you, escape, and burn off that excess energy. WHO'S WITH ME?!?! Yeah. You're right. I probably wouldn't survive the part where the bad guys are after me. Darn it.)

I kinda loved Gabe's cohorts, btw. Background characters are so fun to dissect. Who's who and how will they fit into future books? ONLY TIME WILL TELL! There's also the added bonus of a sinister rival agency with a decided lack of morals in their agents. At least that's the way it looks right now. Then again, maybe everything isn't as it seems.

Bottom line: Solid suspense line with intriguing hints about future entanglements. Okay, it's possible I'm reading too much into some of the interactions here, but I don't think so. The setup worked for me and I'm looking forward to future installments.

Gabriel is biding his time while he and his team recover from their latest mission. Acting as a bodyguard is not exactly what he signed up for, but keeping busy makes the time go by faster. During one of these events he's approached by a beautiful woman asking him to consider a missing person's case. Sadly, Gabe doesn't like to take these 'emotion-driven' type of cases and firmly refused. In any case, the higher ups in Centurion have the last word on which type of assignment they'll take on so he doesn't give the woman or her missing sister another thought. Until he realizes the woman's life is in danger.

Maylin is determined to find her sister and she will go to any lengths to seek help in her search. But when the opportunity arises to seek help from Centurion, she's not expecting for her request for help to be turned down flat by the agent she approached. Maylin's outlook does not seem to be improving either since it appears someone is after her.

If nothing else, the hit and run attempt catches the attention of the very man who refused to help her, driving them both to seek answers amidst a tangled web that involves major players and their own personal emotions.

What I enjoyed the most about this story was that the author kept me intrigued throughout. It's not often that I find myself clueless as to what the hell is going on. I enjoyed the twist and turns in regards to the missing person's case as well as seeing the romance between Gabe and Maylin develop.

Betrayal. Passion. Lies. Heartbreak. Danger. Every single element the author brought to the page flowed seamlessly to bring forth a captivating, riveting read full of 'Awww'-inducing moments with some added heat to make it more than worth my while.

I enjoyed watching as the connection between Gabe and Maylin grew and strengthened as the story progressed. Although theirs was a lust at first sight kind of pairing, Piper Drake made sure that their connection made it to the page too. Sure, their chemistry was undeniable but it was those candid moments spent over a meal, the fleeting touches and honest interactions that ultimately had me cheering them on.

As a first book in the series, Hidden Impact was a success. Not only did the author provided us with Maylin and Gabe's story, she also introduced various key players and set the stage for other books to come.

All in all, an action-packed, intriguing romance.

Whip-cracking start to a new romantic suspense series!!!

Maylin is drowning in read tape. Her sister has gone missing in their parents native China and all she is getting is the run around! As a well known caterer in Seattle, she gets a tip on an outfit who may be able to help her. She approaches one of the security staff at an event and is quickly rebuffed!!

Gabe thought Maylin was coming on to him but when he listened and realised the trouble Maylin's sister was in, he felt duty bound to tell her just what a hopeless case it was. Later outside the club he witnesses Maylin almost be run over and determines that there is more to this disappearance than he or Maylin knows.

A rollercoaster ride of adventure ensues. We see the action fly from coast to coast and Gabe's ex-girlfriends creates mayhem and destruction and sows seeds of dissension in Maylins trust of Gabe.

Superb character interaction and the camaraderie between the Centurion crew is fabulous! They act just like the family they now are. Maylin may be whizz in the kitchen but don't think that makes her some namby pamby wimp, this girls willpower is admirable, and if in doubt she'll lull them to the good side with her amazing food (I need to get recipes for these!!! This book grabbed my attention from the get go and did not let up. I read in one sitting as I was so caught up in the characters and the story. I loved the set up for other books in the series and I can't wait for the next adventure!!!

I was given a copy of this adventure in return for an honest review.

I love how this book begins! Maylin's sister has gone missing in their parents native China and she can't get any sort of help or information. So she approaches one of the security staff at an event she is catering only to be rebuffed. Gabe originally thought that Maylin was coming on to him however once he listened to her and realized the trouble her sister was in, he told her just how hopeless the case was. Gabe then watches as Maylin almost ran over and determines that there is more to this disappearance. So ensure the adventure of discovering what happens. Gabe's ex-girlfriends reek havoc between Gabe and Maylin.

I love the interaction and the camaraderie between the Centurion crew not to mention the name Centurion Corporation. It just screams power! From the first page to the last I was enthralled and couldn't wait to find out what happens. Gabe is the hero that every woman dreams of while Maylin is a strong character who is a whizz in the kitchen and Piper J. Drake has whipped up the perfect recipe for an amazing series.

This is a fast paced romantic suspense that I just loved. It starts by showing us Maylin in her element, in charge of a high end catering event. While there, she appeals to one of the Centurion security staff, Gabe, for help in finding her kidnapped sister. Gabe initially thinks she's just coming on to him, then he thinks it's just futile to try and find her sister, as she'd be dead, or worse, before she'd be found.....until he witnesses an attempt on Maylin's life.

What follows is a frantic search to find Maylin's sister while keeping Maylin safe. While Gabe and Maylin face their attraction to each other, one of Gabe's ex-girlfriends creates havoc for them.

This book grabbed my attention quickly and kept it until the end. I was glad to learn that it is book 1 of the Safeguard series and I'm am looking forward to reading more in the series. This is a must read for fans of romantic suspense.

Nice story and full of suspense. From the start up to the last, there are no boring moments. As you can read above (the synopsis), Maylin will do anything to save her little sister An-Mei. With Diaz and his team’s help, they will try to find An-Mei. But whie doing that, Diaz’s feelings for Maylin will bloom and they will uncover something about Diaz’s shooter and the organization behind An-Mei’s disappearance. What I love about this book is that it’s full of surprises and it’s action packed! Loved it! There may be times that the story is a bit dragging for me but my over all verdict for this book is still good.

Hidden impact was a really good ex-military love story. Well written POV from both h and H. A great story. I loved how food was very well wrapped in the story.
Maylins is trying to find someone to help her find her missing sister. When she almost gotten killed convinces Gabriel to help her finding her sister. But everything is not as it seems of the first sight and seen everything complicated. Maylin was really strong person and I liked her character.
The characters are very well written, the story line is easy to follow. Making the book a fast read.

Hidden Impact had all the elements of a good romantic suspense, great characters, good story line and believable plot line. Maylin Cheng is looking for her young sister An Mei, an upcoming genetic scientist who disappeared while on a lecture in China. Feeling desperate, she approaches one of the security personnel during one of her catering gigs. Hearing that these guys were the best at what they do, not just bodyguards but mercenaries. Gabe Diaz had to say no to Maylin when she asked for help but when she was almost run over which wasn't accidental his curiosity was picked and his instinct to protect took cover. A simple case of a missing persons has turned into possible biological warfare, genius scientists that's possibly is the key and a growing attraction between two people who have nothing in common on the surface except for a capacity to care. Overall Hidden Impact has something unique going it for it, the ability to keep it real. Used to reading about mercenary heroes or special tactical units always getting the job done despite the odds, Hidden Impact seems to concentrate on aspects on what makes an assignment successful or not. When a hero can actually tell the heroine bluntly that its possible that the outcome is not going to be good or worse we won't take the assignment, you start thinking now what? But Ms. Drake has managed to craft together a great mystery suspense that keeps readers turning the page. The character of Maylin is simply good as well, the reality is she's not a soldier or even trained for anything but she doesn't behave stupidly or even a simpering female. She uses her wits and her brain to keep herself alive in situations that is beyond her control, truly fantastic.

Piper J. Drake’s first Safeguard novel is a fast-paced suspenseful adventure. From their first meeting Maylin Cheng and Gabriel Diaz have the kind of sparks that make your toes curl. Their attraction is buoyed by the intense international intrigue surrounding the disappearance of Maylin’s sister. Gabriel believes he’s better off distancing himself from any kind of emotional entanglements but he can’t help but tangle his emotions with Maylin. As a fierce protector, Maylin’s situation sets off every one of Gabriel’s instincts. Gabriel is cemented as an Alpha hero as he vows to find Maylin’s sister and keep her safe in the process.

As a professional woman Maylin is used to taking care of her business, herself and her sister An-mei. The fact that her sister has disappeared in China and she cannot automatically fix it is killing her. Appealing to the man from The Centurion Corporation was her last idea and a bad one as she was severely shot down. However, things change swiftly in this exciting novel and Maylin soon finds herself in the safe clutches of Mr. Gabriel Diaz but can she trust him with her sister’s safety and her heart?

I am a huge fan of suspense and Hidden Impact is full of it! I could not put this romance down! Gabriel and Maylin make for the perfect hero and heroine. Ms. Drake creates the perfect storm of cloak and dagger fervor making Hidden Impact one hell of a page-turner. I can’t decide which is better the kidnapping plot line or the sexy, sweet romance. All I know for sure is that meshed together they make for one thrilling romantic read. Count me in for the next Safeguard novel!

This is the first in a series so the reader in introduced to the future books in the series and since there were not to many it made it easy to keep up with the different characters. The author tried and did a really good job of convincing the readers that the bodyguards at Centurion were not just a team but friends making it very easy to get excited for the next books in the series.

As for the book as a whole in a nutshell a brilliant girl goes missing, girls sister (Maylin) approaches a bodyguard (Gabe) for help, bodyguard is handsome and grudgingly helps. Girl's sister and bodyguard fall in love (Shock Right). They find sister and save the day! Ex lover turns up adding a weird part to the story that kind of works.

The book wasn't bad but things didn't flow as easy as I had hopped it would. I enjoyed the Chinese phrases thrown in throughout the book. Gabe was your typical Alpha and didn't really set himself part from any other character in any other book I have read recently. I needed something from the male character I haven't read in other books but it was lacking.
Maylin's passion was cooking and it was fun to read and in some ways made me want the recipe's so I could try some of the meals out.

Sexy time was sexy with out being outlandish and flowed with the book. However things just didn't quite flow right and I just can't put my finger on it.

Again in a nutshell It is a middle of the road Romantic Suspense series.

Received a copy of the title in exchange for an honest review.

There's nothing that I enjoy more in this type of story than a hero who blatantly says 'no', only to say 'yes' when he sees the danger the lady ends up in -- and that is exactly what happens with Gabriel and Maylin.

Maylin's sister is missing and knowing that the person hosting a party she's catering only hires the best, she corners Gabriel to ask about finding her sister. Gabriel essentially says no -- her sister is an adult and it's been less than 24-hours. Shortly after the conversation, though, Maylin is nearly run down by a car, making Gabriel change his mind rather quickly.

This was a decently-filled suspense read with just enough chemistry and romance to keep me turning the pages. I was in a bit of a "concentration" rut when it came to reading, and this puppy pulled me in and didn't let go. Gabriel is hard and stern, and Maylin is small and quiet, but watching as these two interacted... I couldn't wait to watch the relationship grow and progress.

Above all else, I love the domestic sense that Gabriel and Maylin eventually fall in -- one of my favorite scenes is him pretending to be asleep while he listens to her sock-covered feet entering the room... It's just light and fun -- but it takes these two a bit of time to get to that place.

This was definitely a great way to open the series, and I can't wait to see what's next!

Initial Thoughts: Though I do not read a large amount of romantic suspense, I had to try PJ Schnyder's alter ego, Piper J. Drake's new romantic suspense series, Safeguard. Boy, am I glad I did. Though the lust started early, it was lust with the possibility of more. But I liked how Gabe and Maylin journey brought them together. They were honest with each other and the complications that a relationship would bring were not glazed over. They took time to think things through and progress. I really enjoyed their romantic journey. The way it was entwined with the plot of Maylin's sister was incredible. The balance between these two major plot lines was perfect, they were woven seamlessly and I enjoyed how it felt that each was equal in its importance. The realism of Gabe's work felt grounded and well researched. The tension and suspense of finding Maylin's sister was well done and I found it was difficult to put the novel down. I can see myself rereading it again as I enjoyed the characters and world Ms. Drake crafted. Can't wait to read the next installment! Really enjoyed this book! It's action packed from the start and only gets more exciting as time goes on. An easy to follow read with lots of drama, and lots of romance. I was expecting more badass, tough guy behavior, but I found it impossible not to like them. :)

Gabriel Diaz and his team are handling private party security as something to keep them busy and less bored in their down-time while recovering from their latest mission with Centurion Corporation when he's approached by Maylin Cheng. He blows her off until later that night when the team witnesses a car attempt to run her over.

Maylin is trying to find someone to help her find her missing sister. Gabe and his team take her back to their compound with them to try to get some answers. Military-Veterans-turned-mercenaries, they have a lot of resources at their fingertips with which to help search for details. They decide to look into her missing sister to see if they can figure out what happened to her, and what the connection is to who just tried to hurt Maylin.
Will they be able to help? And when Maylin and Gabe start to have feelings for each other, will they be able to figure out a way to have any type of future together?

What I Liked:

1) I love romantic suspense. Most romances these days aren't appealing to me rom suspense still does. Of course, the problem with romantic suspense is getting the mix just right. Ideally, it's around 50-50 but usually one element is stronger than the other. This one was a pretty even mix. Bonus? No miscommunication or big drama; the romance proceeds along without those artificial problems. Okay, there's one time where he delays telling her something and she's upset when she finds out but it's not a big drama. They work it out.

2) Gabe is a strong, protective alpha male but he's not dominating, condescending or an alphahole. He's kind yet coolly practical, has a sense of humor, treats Maylin with respect, and good at his work. Unfortunately being good at his work and being coolly practical meant that he, along with his boss, made some cold., calculated decisions. I got soooo mad at at times at their willingness to leave a hostage with their kidnapper because it wasn't financially profitable to attempt a rescue. The good guys were definitely venturing into bad guy territory. But I digress. Gabe is basically a good guy but he's complex and not a simplistic good or bad.

3) Maylin. I really liked Maylin. An excellent cook (and why didn't Drake include the recipes?! Bad marketing decision), a loyal and devoted sister (with, sadly, the cliched evil stepmother, sigh), gentle, hard-working, and utterly determined to do whatever it takes to find her sister and bring her home. Maylin had an amazing inner strength that I envied. She met every obstacle with grace and never gave up. Sure, she got down and felt overwhelmed but she managed to get past that and keep going.

4) I don't know diddly squat about mercenaries or bodyguards except for what I read in fiction or see on TV or in movies but Centurion Corporation came across as very real and believable. They were a business first and foremost, even when a person's life was at stake; their set-up was realistic; and the way they operated came off as realistic. It wasn't just Gabe and his team, a total of 4 people, who went on the rescue but other teams were involved too. The mercenaries weren't supermen who could over overcome any odds.

5) Diversity! Maylin is Chinese American. Granted, Drake indulges in some cliches but still, it was nice not to have your basic WASP heroine. Then there's Gabe's team; 2 of the members are women. Skilled, capable, competent women who are just as good as their male teammates.

What I Didn't Like:

1) I mentioned up above that I was not happy that Centurion Corporation was willing to let someone
who'd been kidnapped remain kidnapped because they wouldn't get paid to rescue them. That's not good guy behavior, that's not moral or right. It might be good business but it's shitty human behavior. The only reason they went in after the kidnappee was because funding magically, conveniently appeared. It was teh definition of deux ex machina. While it sets up an overall story line for the series, I'd have preferred that
Centurion Corporation did the right thing for the right reason.

2) The cliches and stereotypes. Drake herself is Asian American, though not Chinese American, so it was especially disappointing that she indulged in the stereotypes. Another cliche that really grated - the evil ex. And this ex is truly evil. Sadly, it looks as if she'll back for more books, causing trouble. To be fair, she causes only minimal trouble for Gabe and Maylin romantically. The trouble she causes has more to do with the mystery portion of the story. For that, she didn't need to be Gabe's ex. She could still have been a villain without being Gabe's ex. Why do all exes have to be bad? Why can't romance heroes and heroines ever just have an ex? Sure, they broke up but that doesn't have to automatically make them bad.

3) While overall I liked the realism of Centurion Corporation, at times it was too much. Drake went into too much detail, making for some dry passages that I skimmed over. It slowed down the story at times.

Verdict:

"Hidden Impact" (which I keep wanting to type as "Deep Impact", lol) is entertaining, with likable and interesting characters, a romance I was rooting for, and lots of suspense. It's a good start to the series and I'm looking forward to the rest.

A quote I liked:

This one was such a man's POV that it made me laugh. Gabe clearly is a minimalist when it comes to decorating. :D I have about three or four throw blankets in my living room alone.

Pillows artfully arranged on a modern-style couch and throw blankets neatly piled within reach. Several. Unless she liked to build forts in her spare time, he couldn't imagine why she'd need so many.

Gabriel Diaz is a military veteran turned mercenary working for Centurion Corporation running a five man team. Gabe will stop at nothing to make sure missions are successful. He learned the hard way to never get emotionally invested because you might just get shot in the back.

Maylin Cheng is desperate to find her missing sister. Hearing that Centurion Corporation is the best she decides she will ask them to help but when she is let down and told no she will have to find another way. That is until she leaves and someone tries to intentionally run her over right in front of Gabe’s eyes.

Gabriel realizes that the hit and run was intentional and decides to talk to the team about taking the case. What they find out is more than they expected. The job will be extremely dangerous and Gabe will have to face his once partner turned enemy that he strongly holds a grudge against.

This book felt a little slow for me at times. I do realize that after reading the details were important so the reader could fully understand what was going on. This book is full of intense surprises, protection and a heated relationship. The one thing about this job is Gabe is in it with all of his heart which could be very dangerous for both of them.

First off, I love finding new to me authors. Better yet is when they have a wonderful new series they are introducing you to...you know you have a couple more books of characters you enjoy by an author you're so eager to read!

Hidden Impact starts right off with the suspense and drama I LOVE in a book. Maylin's sister is missing. She's just a caterer...I say just because this is no billionaire romance novel, Maylin doesn't have a fortune to spend on investigators or a big corporation to start searching...so she does what she can with what she can.

Enter Gabe Diaz. Providing security at this high falutin' shindig a little whisp of a thing comes up to him and asks for help. Nah, not happening..they don't wanna get caught up in a missing persons case. When Maylin leaves, the Centurion Corporation is close behind...and as a car comes barreling towards Maylin Gabe realizes she's in danger...that's all it takes. Suspense and romance abound..a great storyline and some hot n sexy definitely going on between Gabe and Maylin. I don't want to give away twists...I don't reiterate the story. Let me say I really enjoyed Gabe, I wish we could have been "inside his head" a little more. Maylin was a strong, determined character without going overboard.

I'm giving this new series and new to me author, Piper Drake

Wonderful, fast paced story full of suspense that will keep readers on the edge of their seat.

Gabriel Diaz, ex-military, now works as a mercenary working for Centurion Corporation. Gabe is known for having nothing but success when it comes to his missions thanks to his motto to never get emotionally invested.

Maylin Cheng's sister has gone missing and she is unable to get any information and no one is willing to help her. After learning that the Centurion Coproartion is the best for solving problems she approaches Gabe to ask for help in locating her sister. Gabe tells Maylin to find someone else who is more suited for what she needs, they are not the people she needs to be talking to. When Maylin finally leaves someone tries to run her over in front of Gabe and Gabe soon realizes that the driver was intentionaly trying to harm Maylin.

With this realization Gabe and his team decide to take her care but they find out so much more than they ever expected and old friends turned enemies come face to face.

I received an eARC of this book compliments of the publisher for my honest review and opinion. All ratings and opinions stated are my own.

I have only recently discovered Romantic Suspense novels and was pleased when I got this ARC from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

Maylin's sister has disappeared and she asks Gabe, a highly trained security guy to help her find her. Gabe is part of a team and this is the first in a series, so I assume the other team members will feature next.

It is a fast, complicated thriller with good characters and plenty of action. The plot is fairly easy to follow and the romance between Maylin and Gabe is warm and balances the violence nicely. It's not too gory, more clever with the violence.

The sex scenes are sensitively written and not too graphic. The humour between all the characters is a light relief against the background of danger.

Maylin is a professional caterer and she stress cooks, which I found a bit bizarre, but hey ho, it takes all sorts! I also found Jewel very confusing, but again, I assume we will learn more about her in the next book.

Overall, a nice, tense romantic thriller.

3 stars.

This review also appears on Pretty Sassy Cool.

This was a quick read, and I enjoyed it. After her sister goes missing, caterer Maylin will do anything to find her. In comes military-guy-turned-mercenary-for-hire Gabe who, after saving Maylin's life, agrees to help her.

Maylin was a sweet character that reminded me a lot of Monica from Friends. She cooks and cleans and is kind of quirky. Gabe came off a little too much for me at times. I guess that's the way it is with his type a lot though. I liked him, though. There's some stuff that happens with his ex that I just didn't love.

The pacing of this story is great. It's action-packed and has a good storyline, and it gets pretty steamy. Piper Drake is definitely an author that I'll keep on my watch list.

I really enjoyed Hidden Impact. The hero Gabe is everything you want a sexy, alpha male to be, but he's also compassionate and very tuned-in to Maylin's emotions. Maylin is a well-regarded chef who owns her own catering company, and she's nobody's fool. She's very bright and beautiful, of course, but doesn't seem to know it. She was PreMed before deciding to follow her passion and become a chef.

Here you'll find some steamy love scenes and a fair amount of drama. There's also all sorts of military essentials like silent approaches, precision shooting, sneak attacks and even Maylin gets in on a little flash bang action.

I've never been disappointed by a Carina Press offering and Hidden Impact by PJ Drake is no different. If you like military romances and heroines who don't do stupid things that leave you shaking your head, This one is right up your alley.

I received an ARC of this book, via Net Galley, in exchange for a fair and honest review.

When Maylin’s sister goes missing, Gabe, an independent contractor, grudgingly offers his help. Together, the two try to locate her sister, all the while trying to outrun incredible danger.

This is an “edge of your seat” kind of suspense, which I really like; not a lot of slow parts to distract you from the action. Both Gabe and Maylin are likeable characters. Gabe is your average alpha male and Maylin is your average strong and caring heroine, who loves to cook. While this plot is not so different from many other books in this genre, Hidden Impact is definitely worth reading.

My thanks to NetGalley and Carina Press for the opportunity to read and review Hidden Impact by Piper Drake.

Can one small woman change your life and save you from yourself. Maylin needs help her sister has disappeared and she is getting no help. She has done her homework and Gabe & his team are the best and she needs them to help her get her sister back.
Gabe isn't too sure about this as his last mission needed badly he was badly injured and he doesn't trust anyone other than his team
Maylin is about to change everything, can he keep her safe from an old enemy and find her sister alive.
The path is filled with danger and discovery of a different life. Can they both get through this and still be together?
A really well written book that is full of action, steamy sex and a change at a new beginning for them both. I received a copy in exchange for an honest review via Netgalley.

Maylin is in trouble. She's searching for her missing sister and now has people coming after her. She hears about Gabriel and his team and reaches out. She's denied. After Gabe comes face to face with how real her situation is, he agrees to help her but before long, they hit some roadblocks and along the way, they are falling for eachother. Maylin is so flipping cute with her stress cooking and wanting to take care of everyone. Gabe's ex is a bit of a conundrum for me. Doing things that are definitely bad but tempered in some way and her last interaction with Maylin leaves more questions than answers.

Hidden Impact was an unexpectedly super sweet read. Piper J. Drake wrote a tough and hard character who melted like chocolate for Maylin. Maylin had the superpower to make Gabe's entire fire team fall in love with her and create change. This book was very hopeful with a lot of suspense as Gabe and his team try to save Maylin's sister all the while trying to keep Maylin safe.

The book had great descriptive writing creating complex characters and vivid places. Gabe and Maylin nearly burned up the pages they were so hot together. This was a great read and I recommend it to anyone who enjoys a good sweet read with a bite.
