Take a Chance on Me

Rate this book
Kate Zell and Brody Carlson have been best friends since elementary school. Their relationship had always been easy. Both of them loyal to a fault, they had been there for each other through everything: heartbreaks, hangovers, and tragedy. So when Kate needs a place to stay for three months, Brody doesn’t think twice about agreeing. After all, they had known each other forever. Would could go wrong living with his closest and oldest friend?

Apparently, everything. Three months in a small apartment becomes more than complicated. Brody shouldn’t be attracted to his dorky best friend…he most definitely shouldn’t. That would be absurd. She’s a relationship girl and he’s more a one-night-sans-clothes kind of guy.

One drunken dare of strip poker changes everything. Suddenly, two people with too much to lose play a dangerous game. The unapologetic playboy and the girl-next-door have a choice to make, if only their pasts didn’t keep getting in the way of their future.

Manwhore hero that kept sleeping with other women after discovering he had feelings for heroine. While sleeping around he didn’t want the heroine to be with anyone else. Acted like a jealous boyfriend while he got his on the side.

Heroine was practically a virgin. Was with one guy and it was lackluster. She started out as a strong character, but as soon as she caught feelings she turned into some meek doormat.

Just your typical bull.

I adored this heartwarming friends to lovers trope book!

The two main character's, Brody and Kate had such a special friendship which blossomed beautifully throughout the duration of the book. It was so refreshing to read about two people with such a close bond to one another without too much drama. Brody and Kate were extremely relatable character's and I found myself laughing along with their jokes, crying with them, and most of all hoping they would both realise and act on their feelings for one another.

I had difficulty putting this book down once I started reading it as i was completely engrossed. The steaminess was intense but it made the book even more gratifying. As well as this, the writing style complemented the storyline and the character development immensely which made it even more enjoyable to read.

The book raised the taboo topic of mental health and suicide which although is usually difficult to speak about, Jaqueline represented and promoted awareness for it in such an incredible way. I adored that it was integrated into the storyline because it helped understand the effects it can have on people.

This is the first Jaqueline Snowe book i have read and it will absolutely not be my final! I highly recommend this book to anyone who loves a hot and steamy contemporary romance! You will definitely have fun reading this.

This had a good balance of sports, romance, drama, and sexy times. The first part of the book focused on Kate and Brody's friendship and how they both start to develop romantic feelings for each other. I liked the way they interacted, knowing each other so well and sharing grief from Brendan's suicide. Both are in new positions in their careers and trying to do well and succeed. Then once they decide to get together, they both have to get over their pasts so they can move forward together.
Kate and Brody are good people who don't create drama for no reason. There were plenty of romantic scenes that were well done and I liked seeing Brody interact with his team and be a leader to them.
The pacing was well done and the story was fun. I will be checking out the author's other works!

I totally loved this book!!

This book is such a fun, exciting read that touches on good times, friendships, and of course love.

This book keeps you totally engaged from page one through the very last page! I honestly had a hard time putting this book down!

I really liked the main characters, Kate and Brody. They were genuine, realistic, and relatable. They were easy to picture as a couple – the ones you’d go to for advice, cheer for, and even want to join for double dates. Plus, their chemistry was just off the charts!!! You could feel the passion dripping off the pages!!! Also, they were so cute together. Their silly, witty banter was beyond entertaining and led to real LOL’s that definitely got me some stares in the park LOL!!! I really enjoyed following along on their adventure and couldn’t get enough of their story!

I really enjoyed reading this book and totally had a smile on most of the time I was reading it! Furthermore, this book will definitely have you laughing-out-loud so probably not a good idea to read it at a library or class or work lol!

Further proof that opposites really do attract as Kate and Brody couldn’t be more different. But I loved that no matter what they were always there for each other. They always had each other’s backs.

I loved the storyline as the friends to lovers’ angle has always interested me. I think we’ve all had that one friend that one day we noticed in another light and thought about crossing the line. Perhaps we did, or didn't... This book makes you want to go cross that line... Right... NOW!!! LOL!!!

The writing style is fluid, well developed, and at a steady pace.

I like that this book touches on many topics such as love, romance, friendship, second chances, change, dedication, perseverance, growth, humor, determination, devotion, faith, hope, forgiveness, moving on, starting over, new beginnings, overcoming obstacles, and so much more!

All in all, I really enjoyed reading this book and would absolutely recommend this book to all NA romance readers!

This is a friends to lovers book that is steamy and sweet with low angst. It’s about Kate and Brody who have been friends since they were six. The best of friends. She’s pursuing her career and he’s starting to play in the NFL. She needs a place to stay while she interns for her dream job and moves in with him for three months. Eventually they can no longer deny their mutual attraction. I highly recommend this book to those who like the friends to lovers trope (and even those who don’t).

If I could give this book 10 stars, I would!

I am IN LOVE with Jaqueline's writing style. This book had me laughing and truly thoroughly entertained in a way I haven't been in a while.

Kaye and Brody have a true "best friend" relationship. Reading their banter and how they interacted with each other was pure entertainment. Like, I want to be their third best friend.

Speaking of interactions, seeing how they evolved from "I love him like a brother" to "I love him..." was SO steamy. The slow sizzle that kept steadily growing made the tension between them absolutely delicious.

Though mostly upbeat, the book does deal with the topic of suicide. While never a pleasant thing to think about, I felt it kept a tether on the realism of the story and made it more believable, that life isn't all "everything works out perfectly!" for these characters.

All in all, I LOVED this book, I LOVE Jaqueline Snowe and I will DEFINITELY be reading her next book!!!

Take two people with charm and sex appeal, put in a small appartment, shake well, and wait for the sparks to fly!
I admit, I thought this would be just another rom-com, but it's a Terrific rom-com, with lots of witty dialogue and snappy come-backs, angst and dreams - and characters you really get behind and root for. A sweet and sassy friends to lovers romance - Kate and Brody are opposites in everything, but they know each other well. At least, they think they do. Apparently, there are hidden depths to everyone. Kate is a smart, funny, yet troubled young woman. After a disaster break-up, and after landing a new job, she calls on her old buddy Brody to help her out. Brody is a jock, loyal, sweet, and as Kate is about to discover, a very sexy guy. How can she resist? But Brody has demons of his own - notably his brother, who committed suicide. He also has a troubled relationship with sex. He's moody and stormy, contrary to Kate's sun-shine optimism. Decidedly, the author doesn't make things easy for these two, and this reader was spinning the pages to find out what happened next! So during this long, hot summer - grab a cool drink, a comfy chair in the shade, and enjoy!

This book is definitely for all those girls that grew up with a boy that she always loved. I was certainly one of them and he still holds a special place in my heart. The fact that this book brought those memories back tells me it was a special book. This was a hard book to put down, I genuinely loved reading it.

Another book picked by the finger method lol. I think it’s been good too be so far. I probably got this as a kindle freebie at some point, and did a freebie it was pretty good. It’s a nice friends to lovers story, now this isn’t my favorite trope, but people who love it will really enjoy it, it’s well written including the smut, there are some touching moments. Overall I enjoyed it.

Take a Chance On Me is a fast-paced and steamy hot contemporary romance. With a friends-to-lovers trope that sees the characters starting off with a deep platonic love--and really fun friendship--that grows into a passionate one. Her acceptance of Brody, who he is and his lifestyle, makes it easy to see & adore him through her eyes. In return, his unconditional and protective love for Kate makes it a no-brainer that he'll fall in every way, hard. This was my first book by Jaqueline Snowe, and I look forward to many more.

Cam’s Corner Review:

Take a chance on me by Jacqueline Snowe

I would consider this book a Rom-com and definitely has been one of my favourite re-reads despite being a typical cliché when it comes to friends to lovers.

The book follows Katie and Brody who have a good friendship since their childhood. Katie has spent many years in the shadow of her best friend due his talent in sports and his charming good looks. Katie was not meek or shy around Brody and was able to stand confident beside him for many years.

As life took them down different paths, they still maintained their friendship. But Katie returns and Brody’s thoughts about his best friend start to get X-rated. This confuses him and poor Katie gets the brunt of Brody’s treatment as he at times turns into quite a dick. However, the moments that they share are beautiful and it really makes you realise that a friendship can be a great foundation for a relationship.

The book has some steamy scenes in there and although there is not a lot of SMUT, Jacqueline gives you a great perspective of sex from the male’s point of view.

I love this book, I love the cliche and I love the development and the journey between the characters. The story could benefit from some more plot twists, but overall, the story is well written with a good structure.

Would definitely read more from Jacqueline!

Kate and Brody
OH WOW!!!
A great story with a perfect ending!
I loved this funny ( I mean, who thinks of bedazzling their sweat pants!), charming, over-the-top heroine from the first words out of her mouth, and the hero, well he’s just is to die for! And what’s not to love about this story? It’s got it all. An exciting romp through two lives complicated and fun beyond measure with plenty of angst, playful pranks, and moments of reality that zero right in on the difficulties of being human. Not to mention the moments that brought actual tears to my eyes. I was routing all the way through for them to get together. The dynamics between the pair were off the charts. The author does an amazing job of drawing you in. The characters are so darn real, the story is exciting and thoroughly entertaining, and it hits so many funny, high notes you’ll be turning the pages as fast as you can because you can’t wait to see what happens. I highly recommend this engaging, captivating and hot read!!! Well done Jacqueline! Can’t wait for the next one! (PS I received this book for free for an honest review and the writer made it so easy to say how great it is!)

Possible trigger warning ***

Not heard of this author but pleasantly surprised. It was steamy, funny, serious, and romantic. I loved how these long time friends finally saw they were more. It’s definitely steamy but not over the top.

I especially liked how deeply she talked about mental health. Suicide & suicidal thoughts are a real thing. Family members not understanding how to talk about it or deal lead to more problems. They also touched on excessive drinking and drugs. Getting into treatment. All things that are real problems and shame should not keep ppl from getting help.

Writing all of this in a love story made it easier for me to read being in PTSD recovery and suffering from issues with self harm. I definitely recommend this book.

DNF at 33%

I tried. I really tried but I just couldn’t get used to this book. It all started when the MC’s first realized they might have feeling for one another other than friendship and it all just came downhill from there. I decided to DNF after I realized where the story was going but several things had been nagging me, like the fact the hero had sex with other women because he didn’t want to admit his real feelings but constantly nagged the heroine for even talking to other men. I just cringed and rolled my eyes one to many times this early in the book so I knew it wasn’t worth finishing it.

The book starts off with Kate flying back to her hometown (Phoenix) for a new job after finding out that her long-term boyfriend had been cheating on her. Instead of moving back in with her mom and sister, as one would expect, she moves in with Brody, A VERY sexually active NFL QB who has, somewhat inexplicably, been her "best friend" for 16 years. Coincidentally, Brody had just been drafted by his hometown Phoenix team (a rare and lucky break) and thinks nothing of his pretty best friend moving in with him. OK, but why didn’t she move back home?

Another reviewer complained about the juvenile dialogue and the male narrator. That's fair. There's not much in the way of witty banter, and even Brody considers his language to be that of a "petulant 5 year old." I usually have dozens of highlighted lines after reading an Emily Henry book, but here, nada.

The male narrator wasn't horrible, but he didn’t sound like an NFL QB and struggled with the female voice. The narration was so slow that I increased the speed to 1.2x, just to get it to sound normal (Scribd, unlike Audible, doesn't have 1.3x, which is what I would have preferred).

I wasn't riveted by the story, but there were some subtle and potentially interesting references to the balancing act women have to deal with in the workplace. Unfortunately, Kate struck me as rather spineless, and it bothered me that her inaction and her rationalization of her doormat work persona were seen as a virtue.

There's also a reference to the double standards facing women in the dating world. Brody, with countless sexual experiences, is seen as a stud. Kate, with only one sexual partner in her life, was seen as appealingly quasi-virginal. And Brody took a rather odd Bill Clinton-like approach to their transition into the sexual realm (nothing but oral pleasures at first).

Brody also had the stereotypical violent streak expected of a football player, but the scene where he punches a wall (something he had apparently done several times before) made no sense. A QB so willing to risk damage to his moneymaker probably doesn't have the intelligence to be an NFL QB.

I also didn't like all his "clenched fists." At one point, he even talks to Kate with clenched fists. It seemed like a red flag.

The author wants us to see his angry, angsty behavior as a reaction to the suicide of his brother and his inability to deal with his feelings about Kate. And that's valid. I liked how Brody's mother had a clear-eyed take on it and how she suggested getting therapy.

And there's a lot to be said for including a thoughtful discussion about mental health. But, and this may be unfair, it just seemed like a lot of virtue signaling to me.

Still, I liked the premise, I liked the chemistry, and there was a lot of pretty good steamy spice. But something just seemed a little off. And the writing was nothing to write home about. It also seemed too long.

This was 3.5 stars for me, and I can't decide whether to round up or down. I did like the training camp interruption section, so I guess I'll bump it up.

This was a fast paced friends to lovers romance. (Whoop no slow burn here 🔥)
Kate and Brody have been best friends since elementary school.
Their mums were close and so were their two younger siblings.
They grew up together a friendship that entailed lots of pranks and banter but an undying loyalty to each other.
When their younger siblings are 15
Brodies brother commits suicide ( this isn’t too much of a spoiler you find this out at the start of the book)

-Fast forward to there adult years

Brodie-
A typical jock his just been drafted into the nrl got a big signing bonus and is sleeping with one girl after the next. He has commitment issues and has never come to terms with his brothers suicide he can’t face the pain that comes with dealing with his past. The character development for Brody in this book was phenomenal his definitely swoon worthy!
you probably won’t like him at the start but by the end he’ll be pulling on your heart strings.

Kate-
A typical girl next door she’s sweet but she won’t take your 💩.
Shes just come out of a long term relationship to which she found out her ex had been cheating on her basically the whole relationship and she missed all the signs
insert *major trust issues now*
She flees back to her home town where she has 3 month long job trial lined up.

Brody let’s Kate stay with him for the 3 month trial but living in close quarters and all grown up.
Things start to change between them will their banter and new found sexual tension and longing be enough to start a relationship with out ruining their friendship
Will Brody come to terms with the loss of his brother and playing for a new team.
Can kate over come her trust issues with brodys rise to fame with girls throwing themselves on him. Can she over come the drama at her new job to succeed in the trial and be able to stay close to Brody.

This book definitely has some hot 🥵 scenes but also a lot of deep meaningful messages and raises awareness for mental health.
I finished this book crying and feeling so many kinds of 🥰 awww

My only complaint is it’s a standalone
I need more!

Great friends to lovers book! Brody and Kate are best friends. There has never been any real attraction to each other, at least none they were willing to see. Kate has an internship and will be staying with Brody through the duration. Things get interesting and confusing while living together. I loved Brody, he was so sweet and pretty much all in. He was supportive and had very few doubts, if any in regards to the blossoming relationship with Kate. He was quite tortured and filled with doubts in regards to his brother. Brenden, Brody's brother committed suicide as a teenager and there is a constant struggle in regards to that. So many "what if" and "why" questions that I think is completely true to real life. Kate is someone I can imagine being friends with. She's witty, supportive, and determined. I hated her self doubts, but she has them by way of horrible ex-boyfriends. Brody works hard to break through those and I think he was probably the only person who could. They knew each other inside out and he knew exactly when to push or pull. The biggest theme I notice in this book is support. Support for family, friends, and coworkers. There is a ton of love, but support is incredibly important and often missed in books. I loved their game of "worst part of the day" and "best part of the day" everyone should do that in real life to connect even for a few minutes each day. Sweet, but scorching friends to lovers romance!

The story moved kind of slowly. I liked the chapters hopping between Katie's head and Brody's head. I like that they've been friends since grade school, and still use their childhood nicknames for each other--she's KV, and he's Grody Brody. When they got into high school and he was the captain of their football team, when people asked her about their friendship she told them she "didn't ride the Brody Pony-" and she gave her reasons--none of which are flattering to the big lug. She moves in with him temporarily, in the second bedroom, because she has a 3-month stint that may lead to a permanent job--even though her mom still lives with her sister in the same town. Their relationship is like two guys--trading insults, making jokes, being crude--until it isn't anymore. He starts to hate how good she looks when his friends are around. And she starts to notice his build.

Nothing really surprising here. Nice steamy scenes, as they start to explore each other. But the story kind of dragged for me. And despite his determination to not ever turn into the other guys he sees in the NFL, who cheat on their mates all the time, I can't see him denying himself the pleasure of "groupies" that he's always enjoyed--at least not for long, and certainly not forever.

Genre: NA Contemporary Romance

Kate and Brody are bestfriends since childhood, basically they know each other since forever. Having a crush from each other is a bullshit. But everything change when Kate move to Brody's apartment when she has internship.

I like the way the relationship change in this book, it gradually moves from feeling like a sibling (ew!) to jealousy. Living together as adults means they see each other more than friends.

It tells about a baggage in Brody's life, his late brother suicide at fifteen years old. So the story is not only about friends to lovers but also about mental awareness, what happens to a family who leave behind by a family member tragically.

I like the banter between Kate and Brody, how they have jealousy for each other. First, Brody feels a little too protective to Kate when his friends stay over at his apartment, and Kate's feeling toward Brody's groupy. The things are not move too fast but also not too slow.

Good read with a cause

This is one awesome book. The love between Brody and Kate was awesome. The editing, while not perfect, was awesome. The storyline and plots were awesome. Even the supporting characters were awesome! I liked how Brody and Kate navigated their long friendship, dealt with their insecurities, to come out as a stronger couple. Its great that the author did not portray Kate as some girl who dwelled too much on Brody's past with his other relationships and made it into a stumbling block in their own budding relationship. And its great that the issue of mental health and well-being was touched on in this story. It sent the message across that the issue is real and being a famous personality does not exclude you from having this illness. This book also showed that support, either from family, friends or even strangers come a long way in helping one deal with it. Bravo Jacqueline Snowe! You nailed it with this book.

A cute friends to lovers sports romance. I thought Brody’s friendships with his team could’ve been better developed and way less creepy. Is that accurate locker room talk? I don’t know, but I didn’t like it at all, gross.

More could’ve been done with raising the stakes at work for Kate. Her coworker is immediately antagonistic and I think that could’ve turned into more interesting tension.

Instead, the drama we get with Brody and Kate is her having a history of dating people who cheat on her, and her taking out those fears on Brody. This is a played out route, especially since we never meet her ex, James, and the past relationship doesn’t get really any description despite hanging over her moving forward with Brody.

Fun sex scenes! They decide not to have sex right away and so find other ways to get each other off, which makes for some fun scenes you don’t always get in romance books (of the non-penetrative variety).

It was a typical friends to lovers I only rated 3 stars because there was no excitement in the entire story. No drama no angst really no plot .

They’d been best friends since childhood, she was moving back into town for a job prospect. She was staying with him as his roommate.

And you guessed it they realized they had feelings for one another, they were pretty much straight forward about their feelings and gave it a try, first as friends with benefits then bf and gf.

She was a little move reserved about it at first because of course he is a man whore as the popular football QB and she’s the innocent girl who’s been hurt before. But he vowed his love and devotion to her.

No 3rd act break up , check your triggers there is mentioning of suicide.

Like I said it’s an easy going book. This is great after reading a dark book or something too heavy and you need a quick fun low anxiety level type of read.

This is a fun and entertaining book with strong characters in Kate and Brody who have been best friends since grade school. They are opposites in every way but so good together. When she needs a place to stay for a few months they figure it's the obvious choice to stay with him. This sets off their story with the author doing a fantastic job painting her scenes with their colorful banter and slowly growing sexual tension. She moves the story fluidly and had me hooked form start to finish reading. I loved and highly recommend reading.

What a cute friends to lovers romance! Overall, I enjoyed this book very much. I wish the romance part wasn't as drawn out as it was. For most of the book, it was back and forth about whether or not they should act on their feelings but when they did decide, BOY! did they! I liked how there was a little bit about how Kate was going to deal with the fame of having a boyfriend that was a QB - I wish the author touched on that a little more. I also felt like the ending was a bit rushed but such a sweet love story. Personally, I wish they would have touched on Brenden's suicide and a little more and would have dung deeper into the healing aspects.

Take a Chance on Me was a fun best friends to lovers romance. Brody and Kate had a great dynamic as friends and I loved when they started realizing they were attracted to each other. I did cringe a bit at Brody's previous ladies man ways, but I have to give him credit for going all in with Kate. I loved how focused he was on her and making sure they were good. I might have given this book a higher rating if I had read it prior to Snowe's current releases. I can see how her writing has improved with each book. That's a great thing! Not that this was poorly written. It wasn't. It was great. The new ones are just somehow even better.

I haven't read such a nice book in a very long time, full of positivity in love relationships and with such a close relationship of friendship between the main characters.
It is the "friends to lovers" kind of book. I absolutely loved the friendship between the characters because they were likeable, they developed very nicely until the end of the book, their relationship gradually developed and I actually loved every detail. Yes, there are clichés and if I had analyzed the book for every clichéd detail, maybe I wouldn't have been so delighted, but what charm would it have had? I enjoyed an easy read. The smut scenes were delightful!
