Too much told in too many words too obscurely.
A true maze of symbolism and historical nuances.
So you may go hard and finish the book but never escape the forest of the village-microcosm.

Cryptic. Bitter. Even worse. Uninteresting.

Indeed rather unusual read. Epic multilayered book about small village-microcosm.
