Sara MacGilvey has encountered duplicates before, but this time she’s the one who’s been duplicated. Ordinarily, such an attack would take several days to kill its victim, but for some reason Sara’s life is ebbing away at an unexpected and alarming rate; only hours after being sampled, Sara finds herself on the brink of death.
Her friend Stephanie, plagued by psychic dreams of fruitless searching and of a child in pain, tries to understand her visions before Sara is lost forever. But when she realizes what’s being asked of her, Stephanie questions her ability to save her friend, the child who haunts her dreams, or even herself.
Hoping to corner the duplicate in a remote clearing in the woods, Sara, Stephanie and their other friends gather in a protective circle. Their efforts may be in vain, however, since their ruthless opponent is highly motivated to keep her prize … and her strength is building by the minute.

My name is S.M.R. Cooper; I'm the author of the seven-installment Doorway series, a modern dark fantasy geared toward an adult audience, but generally appropriate for older kids - I guess I would rate it PG-13.

My other fiction projects include the children's book "Beneficent Boy", the web-comic "Piper", and the omnibus of my serial novel "The Jennings", which follows the paranormal adventures of a 19th-century psychic and his wife.

My non-fiction projects include a series of videos and blogs that showcase the "campfire stories" couched in films and television programs, and that offer ways to use those campfire stories to help us build a better world.
I also have a video series designed to help viewers find a simpler and more rewarding path through our often-stressful modern life.

My philosophy - in writing and in life - is that the vast majority of problems can be solved with love and bravery, and I try to create characters who act according to that belief despite their very human feelings of fear, hopelessness, or doubt. My stories tend to be action-based, and the relationships in them - rather than taking center stage - form the stable hub around which the characters are able to be their best selves.
