Every dream has its nightmare. Joe Richardson and Dai Williams; two small-time magazine writers are searching for their first big scoop, they investigate a bizarre spate of suicides across their usually sleepy seaside town of Knightsdale. The deaths are disturbingly similar to the horrific nightmares that have plagued Joe all his life – uncomfortably real nightmares that mirror the seemingly unrelated deaths. Knightsdale holds dangerous nightmares and as the mystery deepens, the death toll rises, Joe soon discovers that even the brightest of places can hide the darkest and most terrifying of secrets. Sleepwalker is the second novel by Adam Lawrence that will have you screaming and running from fear in your sleep. Waking will not save you.

With his flawed-but-compelling characters, disturbing monsters, and the supernatural mystery tying them all together, Adam’s tale reads like a classic survival horror game set to prose.

His protagonists feel consistent and grounded in their choices (however unwise they may be) and keep the plot moving steadily. The dialogue is deftly handled: The characters sound like people you could cross paths with. The way the author describes his monsters and the scenery almost transports you into the dark world he’s created. As you follow the characters to the heart of the strange conspiracy they’re caught up in, you’ll find it difficult to step away from this book. I know I had a hard time putting it down.

I’ve read two of Adam Lawrence’s three published books and this is probably my favorite so far (although I still need to read Magic Box). I highly recommend his work and look forward to whatever he creates going forward.
