NO WEDDING BUDGET? NOT A PROBLEM FOR THESE DETERMINED FRIENDS!
While Amy Lawton awaits her discharge from the Army, she’s left her best friend Riley in charge of arranging “a very small, intimate ceremony with no fanfare” for her and her fiancé. But this childhood friend has something else in mind... she just doesn’t know if it will work.
After presenting her “wedding barter” idea to the groom, his conditional agreement is dependant on whether his best man, Mike Todd agrees to the strange proposal. And, getting the giant of a man on board seems next to impossible. Todd is threatening, overbearing, doesn’t like Riley or her ideas, and gives her an ultimatum: Produce results in three weeks or he takes over.
Todd might be tough, but Riley’s determined to not only succeed in throwing Amy the wedding of her dreams, but to prove Todd wrong. . . about everything.
Mysteries, Cozy Mysteries, Suspense, Romance, and Women's Fiction--writing across the spectrum with a Pinch of Humor and a Twist of Faith.
About the Author:
I enjoy writing in all genres—classic romantic suspense, mystery/suspense, cozy mysteries, romance, and woman’s fiction. Since I’ve an awesome publisher who encourages such things, I’m excited at the prospect!
Writing since I was a child, my first published pieces were in the weekly newspaper my parents owned. Years later, I had poems published in a local paper, won honorable mention in a regional contest with a short story, which was then published in their chapbook. In the mid 90's, I signed with a big New York literary agency, where I remained for the next five years. Though things didn’t work out, and there was a period of time I didn’t write, the experience is responsible for where my career is today.
After several years of illnesses that kept me from writing, I was led to Cynthia Hickey and Forget Me Not Romances and Take Me Away Books, divisions of Winged Publications. Not only were my first three novels republished under their umbrella, but I’ve been honored to add five more books and be included in several boxed sets.
NOTE: Though republished and updated in 2015, The Case of The Bouncing Grandma was a 2009 Finalist in the ACFW Carol Award contest in mystery. The Case of the Mystified M.D., was the 2010 winner of ACFW’s Carol Award in mystery, and Mirrored Image was a 2011 Finalist in ACFW’s Carol Award in mystery.
The Wedding Barter by Alice K. Arenz is a light-hearted romance that carries strong messages about love and friendship. Three friends put together a plan to give their friend Amy the wedding of her dreams. The biggest problem they face is financial resources, so they arrange to barter for all the services that will be required to make the occasion as perfect as possible.
Riley faces more issues than attempting to rally her friends around her idea, though. She also finds herself dealing with a thorny and austere Mike Todd, who happens to be the best friend of the groom. Riley also has residual effects from brain trauma after an accident that sometimes makes life a bit difficult.
Author Arenz does a wonderful job of weaving memories of the good and tough times the girls have experienced over the years that forged their strong bond of friendship. Silliness and sacrifice are sprinkled throughout the story as plans seem to go awry, then come together with the help of collaboration and love from sometimes unexpected sources. One part of the plot addresses the issues bride-to-be Amy faces as a member of the military who has seen active duty combat.
Any reader who enjoys romance where the main characters face some unusual and tough circumstances would enjoy this book.
I received a Kindle copy of The Wedding Barter in exchange for my honest review.
It's been a while since Alice Arenz had a new book out, but this one is well worth the wait. It's a Christian romance with a humorous twist or two. Or more ....
Three friends have been tasked with making the wedding arrangements for their other bestie, Amy, who's in the Army and out of pocket. Hannah, Riley, and Nat are on a limited budget--but they want to give Amy the wedding of her dreams. What if they bartered their services in exchange for the birthday cake, the wedding and bridesmaids dressed, the catering, and the location? Oh, yeah, the location. A barn that has seen better days. And only a couple of months to pull all this off.
This is a book that's sure to lift you out of any doldrums you might be experiencing. Available from Amazon.
I thoroughly enjoyed this sweet story of girlfriends planning a wedding for their military friends. Since she is still on military duty, Amy asks her lifelong friends to plan a simple wedding for her. Things don't stay quite as simple as Amy wanted but the girls remember her wedding dreams as a child and work to make some of her dreams come true. Riley enlists the help of the groom's friend Mike who she describes as Godzilla. Mike and Riley as great main characters as they are drawn together working on their friends' wedding. I won an e-book of The Wedding Barter on Lillian Duncan's blog giveaway. This is my honest opinion.
I loved this book. I enjoyed getting to know the characters and the community they live in. Friends willing to go above and beyond to create a memorable wedding for a friend. One of the serious issues in the book is PTSD. I liked the way it was presented and dealt with. Great book!
Friends and Amy and David's wedding. Amy is in the Army out of reach. The Friends get together to plan a wedding by bartering jobs all along. Evan the barn had to prepare after a tornado but Mike bartered his work and designs to fix the barn. Read what happened to everyone working on this wedding.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book! I’m a big fan of Arenz’s suspense and wasn’t sure what to expect since I don’t normally read straight romance, but I found it sweet and refreshing. A great story of love, sacrifice, and friendship.
