Progress is being made on Gladie’s house and her impending wedding. Meanwhile, her best friend Bridget is ready to give birth. But all of that takes a backseat to Gladie’s discovery in her grandmother’s attic about her father. It looks like her father’s motorcycle accident when she was a child was no accident, and now Gladie is thrust into her father’s world, where his best friends could have been his murderers. Will Gladie find the killer before she’s next?
Matchmaker Mysteries… Sometimes love comes with a few dead ends.
Elise Sax worked as a journalist for fifteen years, mostly in Paris, France. She took a detour from journalism and became a private investigator before trying her hand at writing fiction. She lives in Southern California with her two sons. An Affair to Dismember is her first novel.
This series is sooooo funny! It's like Stephanie Plum, but better because the story actually moves forward, relationships change, and characters evolve. Plus, the animals age as they should *ahem* Rex.....
Yeah, hate to break it to you, Evanovich, but hamsters only live 2 years. It's not like I want Rex to die!! It's just that I know he should be dead by now. I get distracted by that every time I read one of those books. I don't make the rules.
Okay, back to THIS book. The series is first person and stars Gladie Burger. She is clumsy, flaky, a little dumb, and hilarious. She also has a way of finding dead people every time she turns around. It's a gift.
Much like the gift of eternal life that Rex the hamster seems to have..... just sayin'
The running-wheel was hell on his new hip.
THIS book... riiiiight.. So, Gladie is the kind of girl that some of us can relate to. Here is the conversation she has with her fiance on their way out to a party:
Him: "You look smokin' hot. Tell me you're not wearing panties." Her: "I'm wearing the big kind of underpants that come three to a pack and suck my fat into my pancreas."
I have some of those!! There is a special place in hell for the inventor of those things.
But, the absolute best scene in this book has to do with the murder of a couch. I was laughing so hard that tears were running down my face. That was a good thing for me - gotta clean out the old tear ducts sometimes, ya know. With my cold, dead heart, I never cry, so laughing tears are all I've got. I only cry when someone dies... like a beloved pet or something.. you know, like a hamster maybe....
The Big Kill by Elise Sax was another first rate, laugh-out-loud mystery. Laughter - check. Mystery- check. Chaos - check. I can always count on Ms. Sax to provide an afternoon of pure entertainment. I'm already looking forward to the next one in this series.
Always the perfect read. Comical, mysterious, crazy and devious. All important reasons to read Gladie's newest mystery, her father's death. Talk about opening a can of worms. Gladie is known in the small town of Cannes as a murder magnet and her fiancee, the Chief of Police, has finally come to grips with this new reality. I find it is very important to have read all the books, it's basically an exciting murder mystery soap opera. So many goofy characters, most of them well meaning, and subtle plot lines that keep a reader flipping pages. Sax is a go to author, not because I received an early copy, but because she keeps it real and interesting. My review was written voluntarily without bias.
I loved this book,it is a laugh out loud, non stop roller coaster of a book. I couldn’t put it down. Many reviews state the book is laugh out loud, and when you read the book, you wonder exactly what book they read. That’s not the case here. This book has side splitting moments, a good mystery, and lovable characters. We catch up to Gladie, the matchmaker in training, Spenser,And a host of familiar characters set a few months after the last book. You don’t have to read them in order, but they are all so good, so do yourself a favor! The main thing is to read these books, you won’t be disappointed !
Book nine in the series is just as good as the others if not even better. It has it all. Gladie and Spencer are getting married, doing cake taste testing, picking the perfect couch and buying the fridge that has special beer section. Gladie also thinks her father is alive, and someone is killing his friends and stuffing them in the fridge. There is also a Komodo dragon running around town. Just a regular day in Gladie's world. Ellie Sax is a literary genius as she is able to create characters that you want to hang out with. I would love to live in Cannes and be friends with Gladie, Zelda and all others who are now like a family to me. It is very hard to incorporate humor when you're writing about something grusome like murders, yet Ellie cracks me up time and again. Story plots are very clever and ingenious and each book is a treasure. Gladie is offically my favourite female sleuth. I have just finished this book and can not wait to read about Gladie's new misadventures.
The Matchmaker Mysteries are wonderful! Love, laughter, murder and mayhem. In this book Gladie and Spencer are getting their house ready. Grandma is making the wedding plans. When Gladie is in the attic from finds a box of her father's things. After reading some papers she believes her Dad might still be alive, but when she starts to investigate people start turning up dead! How is Gladie going to solve the mystery and not end up a victim. Elise Sax is a terrific author. Great series! I do recommend you start at the beginning of the series. You won't be disappointed.
Elise Sax does it again!!! Quirky town, quick banter, murder, mayhem and a little sizzle.... A recipe for a fun visit to the town of Cannes and another mystery for a matchmaker that solves crime. This time, our heroine Gladie is solving a case close to her heart that was deemed an accident.... The story about her father's death. Not to offer spoilers here, but I can say this.... You will not be disappointed. Each book in this series is a standalone and it is also enjoyable if read in succession. 5 stars
What can I say about Gladie and Spencer? Their story keeps going on and on and===It just keeps getting better and better! Gladie is, as usual, up to her knees in unexpected dead bodies and, Spencer is, as usual, having to constantly pull Gladie out of her almost daily crash and burns!!! There is a Komodo Dragon involved but, you'll have to read the book to find out about it! I will NEVER get enough of these books!!!
I love this series. I wont lie, usually after a few books in series, I get bored. Seems to be the same thing over and over. But not this series. I fly through every book. It cracks me up continuously and I love the sleuthing. This series also has some of the best supporting characters of any series I have read.
I'm not a word wiz so I don't have the best reviews but I cant recommend this series enough.
It has been too long since I had to quit reading to wipe my eyes because I was laughing so hard. This is my favorite of the Matchmaker books so far. Aside from the hilarity the story line was exciting and the mystery stayed that way til the end. You out did yourself this time Ms Sax, anyone who loves Stephanie Plum will love this series as Glady and her tribe are as funny and enduring as anyone in the Burg. Thank you for the wonderful read.
I have been pouring through this series one right after the other. They are easy reads and entertaining, full of interesting twists. The only downside is I feel some of the character details are repeated a little too often, but some people like the reminders. This was the first book in this series that I was able to solve the murder mystery before it was revealed-usually I can call it in the first third of a story, so I've really enjoyed these fun books!
This was almost half decent. It gets personal for Gladie when she dives into the death of her father. We even get some interesting character growth. Still, there remains a lot of weak points, like a very obvious case, a regressing Spencer, crime scenes disturbed left and right and lots of immature behavior all around. The best things remain Ruth and the matchmaking advices at the beginning of each chapter.
How does it keep getting funnier every book? Somehow Elise does a better job each book and I love her for it. Life can be hard but simple pleasures, like a funny book, can make it a bit better. This author gives me something to look forward to and she never disappoints. I must say that Gladie and Spencer are my favorite team.
The town is being overrun by DICKS, the teenagers aren't standing for it, and Gladie is at it again. This time to uncover what really happened to her father and how he was murdered. It's a funny, quick read that will leave you wondering what's next for Gladys and her grandma.
I have read every single book in this series. I have laughed til I cried and loved every single one of them. Each book you read you will fall more in love with these characters. I look forward to the next one and hope it comes sooner. You never know what they're going to be up to. If you want good characters and great stories READ these books.
This one gives us more of Gladie's past and family history. A couple of murders to solve, and while the book was funny as usual, I laughed so hard towards the end that I peed my pants and started wheezing. Awesome book.
If you’re holding a sleeping baby maybe wait until after to read this book because you will laugh out loud and wake the baby! Lots of sweet sexy moments and laugh out loud fun with the added bonus of mystery that Elise is sooo good at!
I love this series - Gladie is hilarious. Even more so in this book. I will be very sad when the series ends, but I look forward to other hilariously outrageous heroines that Elise Sax has up her sleeve for future book series.
As good as always. LOL a minute . Characters are such characters! Already for book 10 in May. "Are you kidding me?" Best quote ever, you know when Spencer is going to say it. Loved ending, not expecting that! 5 Stars ! !!
I'm not sure how she does it, but Elise Sax just keeps these stories going great, with new plots nicely integrated into the maturing lives of all her characters, while continuing to bring the backstory forward. Highly recommended.
Hands down the funniest series I have ever read. Characters are hilarious and can't get enough of Gladie and Spencer. Wish I didn't have to wait till May for the next one! I'm hooked.
Great story. I suspected the killer, but the journey there was fun. Old friends, familiar characters and chuckles. Just the thing for a light, funny mystery with the spice of a bit of romance.
