Some believe the old adage, “where there’s smoke, there’s fire.” Well, in some instances the smoke is just a coverture for secrets. Dark ones.
Ragee is a successful R&B singer, music composer, and actor who shot to fame and celebrity at rocketing speed. He has the voice, the troubled soul, the seductive look, and the alluring mystique, all of which give him the traditional packaging of a soulful rhythm and blues singer. But he also has an unshakable stigma attached to his stardom that won’t seem to go away.
Wynter Blue thought she was taking control of her world the day she up and quit her job. As a social service professional, she was done with helping afflicted adult men to right their paths in life. She was ready to live for her. Finally. She wanted to pursue her dreams and stretch the bounds of her creativity.
Little did she know, the day she walked out of her job was the very one she’d run into the shroud of smoke. His smoke. Awfully familiar with secrets herself, Wynter questions if she can handle Ragee’s darkness while trying to bring him into the light of truth.

Blown tf away!!! Love really does not play fair but I’m addicted!!!! Omg I don’t even know where to start!!! *deep breathe in, deep breath out* That last chapter had me TIGHT!!! I needed a minute after these snakes were fully exposed!!! Ragee and Wynter’s story is the prime example of the destruction that awaits when you make a deal with the devil!
To date, Wynter is by far my favorite female Love character. Wynter had so much going…. Sooooo much! She was estranged from everyone in her family except her uncle Van who was really more like a brother to her. She lost her parents at a young age and was raised by her maternal grandparents until they passed as well. One thing they did before transitioning was raise a resilient, strong, independent, sexually liberated, fierce young woman. Despite loosing herself along the way, she was one tough cookie. After Van gets himself into a world of trouble, she’s determined to have his back no matter the cost!
Ragee is a music superstar and rising actor that has hit a brick wall in his career. Rumors about his sexuality has Hollywood ready to permanently pause his career and his right had Mike is willing to do anything to keep this from happening. Ragee is a private individual and due to past trauma 😭😭😭 doesn’t care to clear up any rumors and can give two flying fks what anyone thinks of him. Instead of voicing this, he allows Mike to strong arm him into a situation that he believes will solve their woes.
Mike crosses paths with Wynter and presents an offer she can’t refuse. Now in a situation neither of them want, Wynter and Ragee must either sink or swim. There were too many cooks in the kitchen when it came to Wynter and Ragee and everyone was happy as long as they were miserable. Now that they’ve built a strong bond between the two of them, no wants to see these two win! NO ONE!! I’m ready to fight Heather and My because these two scandalous heaux’s are trying me!!! Whew the drama!!! I really can’t wait to see how everyone gets exactly what’s coming to them in book 2!
After I have read one of Love Belvin's books, I feel exhausted. It's like I am in there with the characters. It's a good thing. If an author can get you to feel all the hurt, sadness, and happiness that the characters go through then that is an outstanding writer. This book sent me down through there. Emotionally!! That ending just threw me. What is Myisha problem? I liked her. Heather and Mike makes me sick. I was hoping for a little more of Wynter little cousin Asia in the book. I think she would have been a hoot. So impatiently waiting for part two. I read this one against my better judgement. I should have waited, because Love have you yearning for more like a fiend.
So much to unpack with this story! Ragee’s soul is in so much pain and Wynter is exactly who he needs. I cant wait to get started on part 2 so they can have their happy ending. Narration was.. meh, but the story was a 10!
Although I finished the book a few days ago it’s taken me a little while to gather my my thoughts and put it in a review. I’ve even have gone back to reread certain portions just to see if my perspective will change on the situationship and its players,Raj and Wynter. Typically with any Love Belvin story, we are introduced to a women who will more than likely have you wanting to invite her to a spa day and a man that you can’t decide if you wanna hug or slap, this is her unique and signature writing style that I’ve grown to love. The Rhythm of Love is slightly different in that I actually felt a sense of melancholy for both characters. These two seemed to be so different by outward appearances, but below the surface they were both so obviously broken for different reasons. Without giving too much of the story away I’ll say that Raj and Winter shared some noteworthy moments particularly because of how they were thrust into a “relationship” and although their chemistry was not instantaneous, it was still hawwwtttt as hell when they decided to go for it. But just like everything else with these two, their thoughts tended to overwhelm them, understandably so, and cause a breakdown.
When I was about 80% into the story, I remember thinking… just end it right now, all the stars were aligned and all was well in their isolated bubble. It was a beautiful moment for the couple, but Raj stole the show, he was so uncharacteristically smitten, it was hard not to fall in love with this dude. But of course, we got the LB special and experienced a major (at least I think it’s major) blow up and get to ‘patiently’ wait to hear more from this troubled couple as they work from the rhythm of blues to the rhythm of love. As the title suggests, this book is full of rhythm, soul, blues and love. It has a pulse, cadence and feel that is exclusive to Raj and Wynter. This is absolutely on the reread list and I would recommend it in a heartbeat.
Laaaaaaaaaaaaaawwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwdddddddddddddddddddddd!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am so grateful that Book 2 is out because I wouldn't have known what to do with myself if I had to wait!!!
Ragee McKinnon and Wynter Haile Blue, two people from opposite ends of the spectrum (but not really as their story advances) are thrust into a married situation, whereas one is looking to advance his acting career and the other is looking to get her uncle out of jail. Even though it appears uncomplicated it really is very complicated, no one wants this arrangement that was haphazardly put together by his bum derelict friend, Mike Brown in which he thrust them together with the lie of wanting to help Wynter, let me tell you something when I say this is a hot mess, I really mean it.
"But God" those two words I am telling you changes everything, they were married in name only. There was zero communication, only social media press and coverage but that was it until Pastor Mckinnon (Ragee grandmother) came on the scene and the two who barely acknowledged each other had to pretend to be in love. And what we think may be such a cluster mess, God is in the midst, so much so that bringing Ragee and Wynter together into the same bedroom because his grandmother was there, was the beginning of the ice breaking, the guards coming down and the masks being lowered. Ragee the superstar R&B singer, producer extraordinaire and now on the rise to acting stardom is a tortured man with demons and severe PTSD, and he never allows anyone to get close to him at all and the storm blew into his life name Wynter. Wynter is a career woman who worked in the criminal justice system as a social worker/advocate which totally burned her out, she made the decision to quit her job because she was tired of trying to mend the broken, she has demons of her own and battles, a songwriter looking to turn her poetry into music and the last thing that was on her mind was getting married and realizing the great Ragee was very broken, this is not what she signed up for. "But God" in all of this craziness there He stands working His miracles, healing, pouring into, loving His two children, in fact, they have no idea that this is all God ordained and arranged.
Ragee and Wynter had seemed to make great strides until an ugly family secret involving Ragee's family comes to the surface, and then the unthinkable happens, Ragee shuts down and shuts Wynter out. Wynter has just been given an opportunity of a lifetime, hurting she takes it and leaves, Ragee retreats but its too late because this woman, his wife has shown light into his darkness and how will he deal with it no longer being around. And now for the conclusion in Book 2 "The Rhyme of Love (Love in Rhythm & Blues Book 2)" which I have already started.
Listen this book got me binging 2 nights in a row like it was a Netflix series. Love Belvin is the ultimate damn story teller. I mean I am super wrapped up in these characters. Wynter is a G. Life had not been kind to her at all, but she was a survivor. The way she handled Ragee's broken a$# was commendable. She truly handled him with care and did her best to make him feel safe. Ragee constantly pissed me off through this book. I realize he had issues, but rather than get help he kept going hot and cold on her. To be such an alpha male he had so many cowardice tendencies that she overlooked. As they got to know each other and their layered pasts were revealed, they still chose each other. It seemed like it was all good until it wasn't. In many ways it felt like Ragee used her and I was not feeling that at all, especially because he knew better and internally expressed his love for her. I just struggled with his actions, because they didn't always show love when he needed to. Whew child running to the next book.
Excellent Read! I held off reading this story for I knew once I started, I would need several uninterrupted hours to complete. The storyline was magnificent as it explained, explored & examined the different, yet intriguing relationship of Ragee & Wynter. The characters and their situations held me spellbound as each chapter revealed more of their deep insecurities & uncertainties while learning each other. Once again, Love Belvin has a well written story that I highly recommend!
Love, You’re nothing short of amazing as an author and I’m pretty sure a person too. Raj and Wynter will be with me for a while....These two broken souls who have found each other through the most unusual circumstances have the chance to not only heal each other but take over the world. I’ve felt every emotion while reading this and while I thought Ezra was one messed up dude I think Raj and his brokenness is much deeper and I cannot wait to dig further. Wynter and her blues will see the sunshine soon, I feel it in my core. Eagerly awaiting, almost to the stalking point for Book 2.
Let me start by saying that I really loved Wynter. She was witty, strong, resilient, and sexually confident. Even though life had dealt her a few crappy hands- she tried to make the most out of it all. Ragee- so complex but he deserves to be because he’s had a lot of trauma. When he and Wynter let their guards down around each other- it was beautiful. But sometimes as quickly as those guards came down- they went right back up (and it would piss me off 😂). Myisha’s return changed something and I felt horrible for Wynter. It’s almost like she and Raj would be floating on cloud 9 and then someone would come snatch them off.
Welp I haven't done this in a while.... what did I think?
Well I will honestly say what I say all the time... I was taken on a Journey. I knew that I would fully get to know these characters first before any bonds were made. I knew going in I needed to be in the right mind frame to receive these folks because if not... I would not appreciate them and I have to say I do like these two...
Now I could go on and on like I always do but I decided short and sweet.
As always a very great read, I look forward to the next one.
I don’t know how Love Belvin orchestrates these kind of love stories. Like they are not predictable but when that sh*ts hit you it’s like something out of this world. She is just not ordinary she is above all else her writing style is so unique and captivating. This is another love by her that I fell involve with. Please don’t keep me waiting long for book 2. Raj and Wyn are my new favorite book couple after Kenny and Lord.
It's crazy because you read these books and hear about these characters second hand, and on a certain level, you start to feel like you already know them. But then you read their stories and ACTUALLY get to know them and fall in love with them, feel for them, root for them.
Ragee and Wynter are probably my favorites in the LB universe after Kennedi and Isaak. Their arrangement, literally, isn't ideal or the best path to a happy ending but their chemistry and willingness to be vulnerable and open with eachother - makes reading about all their ups and down, trials and struggles, the rhythms of their collective blues - so entertaining. And oh so goddamned stressful. In the best of ways of course.
What the hell happened is what I want to know. And how are we going to FIX it!
The tale started off slowly, but once the pace picked up the book became much more enjoyable. I thoroughly enjoyed the edgier, street influences in this story. The threat of impending violence always ratchets up my interest. This ain't just a love story.
... really it’s a masterpiece. So many layers and so much time spent reading through them all! I loved every minute (and hour) of it! This was such a captivating read from start to finish. Raj’s relationship and personal growth throughout this book was dope to witness and Wynter’s realness was very refreshing. This book deserves more than 5 stars, honestly! I’m off to the next book because if it is anything like part 1 then I’m definitely in for a treat.
A very complicated, erotic story. I haven't read anything like this since my days of reading books by Zane. I randomly read this book because I loved the cover. Definitely going to read more of her work
I don't how Love does it but she know she write some bad ass series. What I love about Love is that she touches on real life issues. This book is straight up fire. Ragee had underlying issue from child, that spilled into his adult hood to questions about his sexuality. Wynter was just caught up will do what was necessary to help her uncle. Myisha acted like she was jealous of Ragee and Wynter's growing relationship. She so selfish that she would rather see her unhappy, than to see him happy and in love. Mike Brown was straight up thug want to be. I chat believe that ending though. Can't wait for book 2. If you haven't already or looking for really good series. You have get this one, you won't be disappointed.
I cried at the end. I cried for Ragee. I cried for Wynter. I cried for Myisha. This book was not an easy read. The content was very dark but very believable. Now I have to wait to get the conclusion because I forgot to order book two when I was half done with this book, ugh!
I just love your style..i can't even put into words how this story had me feeling. I should have waited until book 2 was released before reading but I was so excited and happy that you blessed us again . Now I will be in pins and needles waiting. But even as unconventional way these 2 met. It was a devine plan by God!!!
This was another LOVE classic! I love Wynter and Ragee together! This was a roller-coaster of emotion and I know u not even done with us yet 😩 I knew Mike was gonna be a problem. I loved catching up with some of the couples from her previous work, patiently waiting ( not really) for the conclusion. Awesome work LOVE!!! You're seriously the GOAT 🐐
I feel the love, the passion, the drama, and the action. You put it down once more. I love everything you have written Love Belvin. You are Da Bomb. COM baby. You did that. Now waiting on part 2 like yesterday.
That's the challenge presented to Wynter in Love Belvin's new story The Rhythm of Blues. Before I get into the review, I just want to say that Love gave me all kinds of life. This story was well thought out and the author does a great job of discussing a subject that is often taboo in the Black community.
The character of Wynter is one of the strongest female characters that Love has developed. She's not here for the BS, when she marries it has to be the type of love she saw between her grandparents. She goes into her relationship with Ragee with her eyes open and a icy heart due to a past relationship. When Wynter's relationship with Ragee begins to change some of that ice melts away. I really enjoyed the complexities of her character while she was strong she also had a vulnerability. This first part gave a clear understanding of Wynter's character. Hopefully the second part will focus on the character of Ragee.
Ragee is a character that has popped up in some of the previous books as a successful R&B singer. We learn about Ragee through flashbacks and how Wynter views him. I can't wait until the author breaks down Ragee through his interactions with one of my favorite characters Ezra. It's still a mystery surrounding Ragee, his previous relationship with his high school sweetheart and his relationship with God. Ragee the alpha is touched on but not fully explored.
I also loved that the author gave us a check in with previous characters. Now I have questions like -Why Kennedi and Lord having baby issues? What happened to Rayna and Azmir's third child?
Overall, Love continues to put out high quality stories filled with words that will touch your spirit. I'm looking forward to the next story in this series.
Brick by brick, Love Belvin has created her own lane and the smoke her pen leaves in its wake, makes it next to impossible for anyone to come close. What she has accomplished this year alone is extraordinary (publishing five books) but these are not the kind of stories that happen without severe and painstaking labor pains. She produces, endures the travail, and the reader enjoys and behold that beauty and mastery of her work. It is not normal and it transcends stellar writing, creativity, and storytelling--it rivals, genius because her stories are birthed in her heart and soul. This book like her others is gripping.
The subterfuge deployed to recover Ragee's missed career opportunities and aid Wynter in her plight to aid her most beloved family member lead to a myriad of feelings, emotions, and ultimately life changing experiences that has the reader falling for the couple as they are falling for each other. The romance isn't the main thing, it is a satisfying byproduct of the author's surgical precision as she begins her triage on Wynter and Ragee. There is so much against them separately and jointly that it's amazing that they both were able to take ahold of the life vest that provided each other.
There were so many dark and grim things and characters working against them but there was comfort in Ragee's grandmother establishing and trying to fortify the spiritual foundation of their relationship. This book covered so many things and so effectively that it's difficult to pinpoint what things resonated more. I enjoyed the entire book and absolutely cannot wait to delve even deeper into part 2! Read this one today!
What I Liked: This book has been on my TBR list for a while now and I finally decided to take the plunge to see what it's about. Color me surprised to find out I didn't like it. I didn't like so much that I didn't even finish it.
What I Didn't Like The Characters:None of the characters were remotely likeable: some simply excited and made zero impact like Wynter; others annoyed me like Pastor whats-her-face; and the rest were straight up assholes who should be wiped from existence like Ragee and Mike. If there was a character I could root for, I probably would've been able to finish the book but alas...
The Story Line: The story had an interesting premise, don't get me wrong. A fake marriage plot is usually a guaranteed good time. But when one of the parties can't even be bothered to interact with the other, it gets irritating. Ragee and Wynter barely had a civil conversation and when they did, it's because they had company and were forced to behave civilly. It got to the point where I was skimming entire paragraphs, waiting for something important to happen.
The Religion: All the "praise the Lord" nonsense made an already tedious read of me insufferable.
Overall: Decent story line with so-so execution. Incredibly annoying and borderline awful cast. The author could've kept this one. DNF. 1 star.
Once again Love Belvin has brought us into the lives of two broken people who've found each other, seen healing in each other but just can't seem to get pass their past.
In this awesomely, amazing book we get to explore the world of Ragee a character we've met before, he wasn't at all what I expected... But one thing I've learned, it's not to even try to venture into the genius that is Love's mind.
I love how she tackled some touchy, dark subjects making us feel even when we don't want to. Helping us work through topics too taboo to discuss in our daily lives.
Love Belvin's writing is intelligent, vivid and insightful. It draws you into a new world filled with real and relatable characters. You love them, you hate them. One minute you wanna punch them in the face, the next you wanna give them a hug.
I cannot wait for Part 2. The conclusion to this story is gonna be playing in my mind until Love blesses us with her pen again. One thing I'm sure of, my imagination will not be able to prepare me for what she brings us.
This was the first book I have read by this author and I just wasn’t feeling it. I found myself skimming through most of the pages because there was no connection between Ragee and Wynter. They were basically roommates that crossed each other’s path every once in awhile. I've read other books where they faked relationships ans usually there is something between the two people but we weren't giving a change to see that because they were rarely around each other. Finally when they were forced to be together a connection did form between them I started to enjoy the story. Then they let people come between them, the relationship was over and the book ended. I’m giving this book 3 stars because I did enjoy parts of the story. There is a book 2 but I would only read it just to find out what happens next. Not because I enjoyed this one.
I felt Ragee,'s pain and how Wynter was his healing balm. This story is filled with so much emotion true to life events of abuse, neglect! I am loving every novel by this dynamic author. The stories just explode off the page, have me up all night reading. I can't wait to read the conclusion. Once again Ms. Belvin you have blown my mind!
This book was so good! I read it again and picked it for my book club Real Diva's Read January 2019 because I wanted to share the rawness and deep emotions I felt when I read it the first time. All I can say is it was just as powerful the second time around and I can't wait to discuss it with my Diva sisters. We wb reading the sequel as well next month 1/21/19
