Aimee Easterling is a USA Today Bestselling author writing on the boundary between urban fantasy and paranormal romance. She specializes in spunky shifters and invites you to dive into her werewolf world in the Wolf Rampant trilogy, the spinoff Bloodling serial, and her new Alpha Underground series.
Studying biology and working as a naturalist have both informed Aimee's writing, but she's quite willing to let reality slide in favor of a good story. When not writing, she loves to read and always keeps books by Robin McKinley, Patricia Briggs, and Elizabeth Peters on her shelf. You can learn more at www.aimeeeasterling.com.
In a world trying to adjust to some kind of trauma, people are trying to survive. This set is about three different dragons and three different witches. All have magic but some clash. Can they overcome their differences and find a happily everafter; or will they destroy each other? Read these amazing stories and see for yourself. I loved each one and now you can get them all together and not have to wait for the next one!
Over the last year or so, Aimee Easterling has become one of my favorite fiction authors because she reliably delivers fun shifter stories that balance character development with exciting plots. She has a knack for creating interesting, likeable characters who are smart and funny and make mistakes, and I love getting to know these characters and watching them learn and grow. However, I was nervous when I learned that her new series would be about dragon shifters and witches rather than the werewolves I have grown so fond of. I needn't have worried, because the Dragon Mage Chronicles have given me a new appreciation for dragon shifters.
Incendiary Magic tells the story of fire mage Phoenix ("Fee") and dragon shifter Mason. The characterizations were well done. It took me a little while to warm up to Fee, but I could understand why she made the choices she did, and towards the end of the story I was definitely rooting for her. As I have come to expect from Ms. Easterling, she has created interesting, likeable characters who are smart and funny and make mistakes, and I loved getting to know these characters and watching them learn and grow. My only complaint is that because the story took place over such a short period of time, the romance felt a bit like insta-love, which I am not particularly fond of. Still, there were plenty of reasons for these two to fall in love, and I found the romance quite charming.
The story is well-written, with lovely descriptive language addressing all of the senses that drew me into the story and let me feel as though I were there. The plot was filled with surprises, and the pacing was good. The language was clean, there was no sexually explicit content, and although violent situations were described, there were no graphic depictions. I also don't recall problems with typos or other editorial issues.
Verdant Magic, about dragon shifter Zane and earth witch Amber, was my favorite of this series and exceeded all of my expectations. The story is well-written, with lovely descriptive language addressing all senses that drew me into the story and let me feel as though I were there. The narration alternates between Amber and Zane's perspectives, so we get to know both main characters and get a feel for what life is like for both witches and dragon shifters. The story was original, intriguing, and paced to keep my interest.
The characterization was excellent. Many of the secondary characters were developed enough to feel real and for me to care about what happened to them. I really liked most of the characters, and there were a couple characters I initially disliked but learned to grudgingly respect. The interactions between friends and family felt authentic, and it was a particular joy to see how the various characters interacted with Amber's goat Thea and with the sentient plants of this world.
I would recommend this story to anyone who enjoys paranormal romantic fantasy, provided you won't be offended by one fairly brief explicit sex scene. There is also some violence, but it is not depicted in excessive detail.
I enjoyed reading Cerulean Magic, wind witch Sabrina and dragon shifter Nicholas's story, although I didn't enjoy it quite as much as Verdant Magic. This book felt a bit darker and had a little less comic relief. However, the characterizations were well done. As I have come to expect from Aimee Easterling, she has created interesting, likeable characters who are smart and funny and make mistakes, and I loved getting to know these characters and watching them learn and grow.
The story is well-written and I didn't notice any typos or editorial problems. The language is pretty clean, with lovely descriptive phrases addressing all the senses that drew me into the story. There's some violence and adult situations, as well as a brief sexually explicit scene, all handled rather tastefully.
Note that I read the individual books, not this bundled version, so I cannot comment specifically on the formatting of this bundle, although I can say that all of the author's books I have previously read have been well formatted.
The “Dragon Mage Chronicles” compile all three full-length books plus three bonus shorts, set on the Dragon Mage universe, into a single volume. All books in the series can be read as stand-alone, but for an even more enjoyable experience, I would recommend reading Verdant Magic first, followed by Cerulean Magic, while Incendiary Magic can be read at every point in the series.
This series focuses on dragon-shifters with some unexpected twists, interesting plots and entertaining stories, and overall, the extraordinary writing style of Aimee Easterling, flowing through the pages and moving the story along with wonderful world and character descriptions that make the tale come alive page after page. A mix of mythical dragons and postapocalyptic dystopia that works exceptional well
Incendiary Magic The novella introduces the Dragon Mage world and can be read as stand-alone. It relates the “incendiary” 😊 story of Fee (a fire mage & phoenix) and Mason (a dragon shifter), which has a rather disturbing beginning as Fee (brainwashed by her father) infiltrates the dragon lair intend to send them all to oblivion. The chemistry between the MC works well from the get-go and makes the reader invested in the outcome
Verdant Magic Set into a post-apocalyptic world, the story follows the relationship between Zane Pendragon (obviously a dragon shifter 😉) and Amber Gardner, a witch, which belong to opposite fractions. Amber’s first impulse is to kill the dragon, after all a fire dragon kill her parents. Zane himself has been carefully avoiding the witches’ territory but, as Amber captures him, his whole demeanor changes and he finds himself “mated-at-first sight”.
Cerulean Magic This is the story of Sabrina Fairweather and Nicholas, who already appeared in “Verdant Magic” as secondary characters. Sabrina is a wind witch, which help enormously in her career as airship captain, until she gets blackmailed into kidnapping a dragon-shifter, who has a knack for unearthing secrets, that Sabrina herself would gladly keep bury forever. Sabrina and Nicholas, who already were wonderful secondary characters, are superb MC, with a multilayered relationship that evolves through the pages.
To round up the reading the compilations also includes three bonus shorts: “Biological Clock”: told from Sarah’s POV “Mop Magic”: narrated by a resident of Aerie “Flight or Fancy”: a very special short directly from Easterling’s POV
I love this series! Of course, I seem to love all of Aimee's books. She's a wonderful writer and she has a great editor, which I appreciate so much!
These three books are set in the same world and have overlapping characters, but each book involves specific dragons and their future mates.
The conflicts for the characters are all unique and allow each book to have a strong independent theme. The love story of each couple forms a strong thread, but not at the expense of a good and intense story. Aimee does give us more intimate details than in her other books, but it stops short of being uncomfortable. I wouldn't want my younger teenager to necessarily read the few pages devoted to that detail, but I'm rather conservative in that regard. I'd say there's a few PG17 pages. The rest of the material is friendly to 13 and up.
You'll definitely enjoy these books if you enjoy the idea of nature magic and dragon shifters.
Well this box set has kept me busy for a while. 3 separate stories, 3 dragon romances, and a new world which kind of worries me for the future lol. Each read is based in this new world, and all have common factors but each story is individual and has 3 glorious dragon shifters, all meeting their mates, 3 very strong willed women. I enjoyed every read, the stories, plots and characters were great. Lots of angst, twists and turns. Some sweet romantic moments, and a very powerful idea of family and friendship. Overall a great box set to read, especially if you love dragon shifters.
The three dystopian stories about the Green and dragons were very interesting but it was the last story that really caught my interest. Imagining that the old Mayan/Aztec gods are still conscious and living among us after losing their worshippers and, therefore, their powers. It doesn’t matter if the histories have been mixed, the story was vastly entertaining. All in all a good read.
I was so lost in the story I forgot I was just reading.
I felt disoriented when after I finished the last book, Ainee's name showed up. And I was like, "Oh right, this is her book." It felt like a dream you didn't want to wake up from.
