“It isn’t your typical love story… it is real.” “It's one you won't want to miss!” “You, Me and Us was never a love story from the start – and it never claimed to be.” “Anyone who enjoys 500 Days of Summer or any other non-love story between a boy and a girl will want to give this book a try.” “One that you will struggle to put down as 'just one more page' really kicked in for me.” “F*** you for breaking my f***ing heart…” This is the heart-breaking yet hilarious story of Jimmy Rowland and Erin Poppet. Jimmy Rowland has the perfect life. He works in his favourite bar by day, and by night he lives his dream with his two best friends in his band. Erin Poppet crashes into Jimmy’s life like a beautiful storm. He falls in love with her as quickly and as deeply as possible. The intensity of their relationship leaves Jimmy with a broken heart, a useless vacuum and a demon inside him. Jimmy’s dream life quickly becomes a nightmare when he loses his dream job and destroys his musical career live on stage. When he hits rock bottom, he decides he only has one choice, to rebuild his life from scratch. He has to get back the life he had before Erin. This is her story. This is his story. This is their story. Or as Jimmy would say… “… this is the story of You, Me and Us.”
You, Me and Us is very much an addictive read! Once I started reading the time just flew by as I eagerly turned the pages!
Jimmy isn't exactly great with the ladies.... that is until he meets Erin Poppet. She's everything and more. He can't believe his luck when she agrees to come watch his band play at a gig where he works.
From that moment on they are entwined in a whirlwind romance. Well that is until Daniel comes on the scene! He is Erin' s Ex and he knows exactly how to mess with Jimmy's head!
After moving in with Erin after a couple of weeks. Things just don't seem to be adding up. Jimmy is getting more and more paranoid, till he discovers something on Erin' s computer!....
The End of Jimmy and Erin !!!
Just like that his homeless and heading in a downward spiral of self destruction!
Poor Jimmy is left heartbroken!
I adored Liam's easy style of writing. It just flowed right off the pages. The story is written in Jimmy's voice and you are treated to all the juicy dialogue between conversations.
I liked Jimmy but could see early signs of a lack of self confidence and self esteem. Erin unfortunately thrived on his gullible personality and he's need to be liked.
Oh and I just want to say I loved the song 'Bang Bang ' such a catchy tune! In fact I felt my self singing along to the songs mentioned on the book.
I thoroughly enjoyed You, Me and Us. It's a fun fast paced read, short meaningful chapters, great characters ( I even warmed to Ryan, Jimmy' s sarcastic band mate) , I was swept away with Jimmy's story. It's one you won't want to miss!
This book contains, mild sex scenes, some drug use and swearing. Just as a pre warning!
But i definetly recommend this book. Perfect anytime read! Enjoy!
I would like to thank Rachel Random Resources for this thrilling read in which I voluntarily reviewed.
loved the cover to the book first book ive read by liam hurley, i loved it,it was funny in places there are swear words but that did not bother me at all. it was a bit slow at the start but i soon got into it and couldnt put it down i would recommend this book to anyone who wants to read it
Jimmy Rowland doesn't have a perfect life, but he does have a decent one. He's singing with a band and they're starting to get some breaks. He's got a steady job working in a bar he likes. His two best friends are his bandmates, Tom and Ryan, and they happily share a flat in Manchester--the best city in the world, in Jimmy's opinion--which is quite inexpensive when split three ways.
Then he meets Erin Poppet, and his life blows up. She's beautiful, exciting, and, inexplicably to him, attracted to him.
The construction of the story is interesting. At first we don't know who is narrating the story, not their name, not their gender, not their orientation. We just know that this person is going to meet another person in a coffee shop, a person they were involved with, split up with, and are going to see for the first time in months. It's the feelings and experiences that matter here, not the mundane personal details. It's very well done, and I'm not sure I'm doing the right thing in even mentioning names. Yet the cover matter does, and perhaps I'm alone in thinking that ignoring this information is a better way to experience the book.
Jimmy and Erin, and others around them, take an emotional roller coaster ride over the course of the year. It's strange and interesting, and emotionally convincing. At least one character goes through enormous growth and change.
It's an absorbing book. Recommended.
I received a free electronic galley from the author, and am reviewing it voluntarily.
After reading the blurb for this book I was intrigued, but I can honestly say that the book really surprised me and I have given it 5 stars - I thought it was excellent - the writing style was great, and I loved the characters.
It was witty, well planned and executed brilliantly, it is a very easy read and one that you will struggle to put down as 'just one more page' really kicked in for me - and a bigger plus - I think the characters might actually swear more than me too - which is always a bonus!! Thoroughly enjoyed it and its definitely a book I'd recommend.
I liked reading about Jimmy’s Journey. Yes there are swear words in this story but it kind of makes it even though I am not keen on them there are only a few Liam uses but it works. The book is divided into three sections, you, me and us. So we get to hear Jimmy’s, Erin’s and when they were in a relationship side. I think this story tells you not too jump in too quick to a relationship, enjoy what you have in the moment. For a debut novel it is written well.
I admit it was the cover and subject matter that drew me to You, Me and Us. It has a great start with a hook that reels you in. Plenty of language so if you are sensitive to the *F word perhaps think twice. But if you can overlook that and read the bits in between this is a refreshing tale told from the male perspective.
Jimmy is a character who is easy to like but being an older reader I also wanted to ‘mother’ him. He is a typical lad, gives the impression of being as good as his mates in every respect, he is in a band but has a low self-esteem, not very confident with the girls and generally just drifts from day to day.
Then he meets Erin …….
Life turns on it’s head, it moves at breakneck speed and he is smitten BUT there wouldn’t be a story if life were that simple. The appearance of Daniel, Erin’s ex, irks Jimmy and the relationship flounders.
This is a quick, easy, coming of age book that holds the attention due to the fast flowing writing style. I like the background setting of Manchester it seems to fit the bleaker side of Jimmy’s existence. It includes multi levels switching between humour, language, sarcasm etc just enough to keep it alive and believable.
I enjoyed it but I suspect it may be better suited to a younger audience. I must say the special tune stuck in my head though for quite some time!
Thanks to the author and Rachel’s Random Resources .. I read and reviewed voluntarily.
As the title suggests, the book is about three things: you, me and us. The ‘you’ is Jimmy, a slightly cynical and sarcastic person. He falls for Erin, who is ‘me.’ And as you might have guessed, ‘us’ is both of them. The prologue begins with Jimmy telling... read the full review here: https://www.amybucklesbookshelf.co.uk...
This book has a simple premise: love isn’t all cuddles and chocolates. This might appeal to many who grow tired of the hearts and flowers romance stories often shoved their way, while some might find such premise quite bitter – and perhaps it is.

This is the story of Jimmy. He works in a bar by day and sings in a band at night. One day he meets Erin Poppet and he falls head over heels hopelessly in love with her. She breaks his heart though, and this also brings his perfect life crashing down. The only way to get back from rock bottom is to get back the life he had before he met her.
My first book by the author. A word of warning, from page one (possibly even word one!) there is bad language. There is quite a lot of bad language if I’m being honest, so if you are easily offended or don’t like to read it, then perhaps this isn’t the book for you.
Jimmy is a barman by day, a singer by night. His band tends to get booked at 90’s nights, but for some reason they don’t understand this concept and end up singing songs by The Beatles! Meeting Erin Poppet one night he gets reeled in so fast he doesn’t know what is happening. The story is a heart-breaking one with lots of love and loss, but how it was written it didn’t feel like that! The whole style of writing felt like it was just teetering on the border of being very funny, and you wanted to laugh at Jimmy when really you should have been crying for him.
The book was really cleverly written. It’s not usually the type of book that I would appeal to me but the blurb pulled me in and I’m glad I did read it! I did enjoy this one although I do feel that a young adult audience may relate to it more than I did! Unfortunately, I’m not that young anymore! Will definitely look out for more by this author!
