Psychiatrist Rachel Julian has what many dream of—a booming career, an enviable relationship, a joy-filled life—until a bloody premonition warns her that she is in danger. As terrifying threats unfold, her perfect life tailspins out of control. Armed with nothing but her intuition and determination to stay alive, Dr. Julian steps into unknown realms and meets a succession of otherworldly teachers who tell her that beyond the human threats, she has been lured into a spiritual war. To survive, Rachel must fight an enemy she can’t even see in a reality many wish did not exist.
Gripping story filled with suspense, intrigue and adventure! The intensity and drama weave in and out of a curious spiritual journey the protagonist takes the readers through while she's trying to find truth, safety and answers to why someone is trying to cause her harm. How can she protect herself from someone or something...when she doesn't know who is trying to hurt her....or why? Not only is the mystery compelling, but the spiritual adventures create a curious sense of wonder! Stirring, intriguing and a wonderful read!
While heavy in detail at times I continued - caught up in the absorbing conflict and outside forces that invaded the heroine's life. Wonderful command of the written word.
Fiction you say? But with a very non-fictional twist.
Grip of The Hawk carried the same sense of darkness, mystery, and a pinch of hope from front to back.
On the cover you see a scary, foggy field with a glimpse of light in the background. You know that the fog will eventually lift. With my belief in spirit animals, I know that the hawk is a messenger of the spirit world and can indicate increased spiritual awareness.
I enjoyed the poetic feeling I got when reading each of the italicize text right under the prologue, each chapter, and the epilogue. They were like poetic introductions for what you were about to read. My favorite was after the epilogue, “Everything has a purpose, Rachel, even if we don’t understand what that purpose is. Someday you will know what I mean.” -Mama
I think the story was successfully told in a climactic way. Rachel‘s experiences, her findings, and the tools she learned along the way made for an intriguing read.
I must say that although included in a fictional story, that I enjoyed reading about the different spiritual lessons Rachel learned and explored.
The author, Brenda Schaeffer, without a doubt pulled off writing a book that was both enlightening and entertaining.
I would highly recommend anyone to read this book whether you prefer fiction or nonfiction.
I won this book in a giveaway. I really liked some aspects of this story. The path Rachel took to learn to listen to her heart, care for herself, and let go of what wasn't important resonated. However, I found the book a bit repetitive. I feel that she went over the list of lessons and teachers often throughout the story, instead of trusting the reader to remember what she had learned from each person. For me, even though the story was interesting, it seemed way longer than 293 pages.
