The Changing Earth: Rivers and Valleys is an Informational Text book for children that provides general information about rivers and valleys defines related vocabulary terms. It also offers brief explanations about natural events/disasters related to rivers and valleys (such as flooding) and nicely illustrated pictures.
This book would comprehensibly be an nice read aloud for any level of elementary grade during a science unit on rivers and their ecological systems, one on natural disasters and the environment or a social studies unit on geographical features. It could also be a meaningful addition to a text set made available to students during either of the fore mentioned units. Additionally, this text would also be a good mentor text to demonstrate the writing traits of conventions and organization, (I found the index of key terms and topics at the back of the book to be particularly helpful) for students during writing workshop mini lessons.
